The Plague’s The Thing

‘IT may also be coincidence, but could President Bush be behind the mumps epidemic that is apparently sweeping Britain’s universities?

”And this is what I got for voting Bush”

We ask only because we notice that Katie Lee (pictured on the front of this morning’s Telegraph) picked up the disease only three weeks after starting her American Studies course at Nottingham University.

Again, we have no way of knowing whether she would have got ill had she been studying, say, French and German or indeed whether the election of Kerry would make any difference.

But it’s better to be safe than sorry in such circumstances, especially when we read in the Telegraph that almost 3,000 students could be infected by the end of the year.

Would a victory for President Bush today see the four horsemen of the apocalypse – war, famine, plague and pestilence – galloping willy-nilly across the globe?

Must young men die (or at least see their testicles swell up to an enormous size) to save the tax breaks of a few ultra-rich Americans?

Must the wombs of young women the length and breadth of this country become as barren as the desert sands of Iraq in order to preserve that Dubya does not become a one-term leader like his daddy?’
