But perhaps the roles should be reversed and the boy wizard should wonder what it is like being the ex-Home Secretary embroiled in a visa-for-kids scandal.

And don’t scoff - it might have been a Potter plot line had the boy wizard’s creator, JK Rowling, not come up with a new wheeze for her sixth book on the nerdy little so-and-so.

Time was pressing - the Christmas Day deadline was drawing ever nearer. Rowling reached for her pen…

And the joyous news in the Times is that Rowling has produced her manuscript a week early, so causing a “palpable” sigh of “relief” in the book trade.

Harry Potter And The Adult Literacy Class will go on sale this coming June with much fanfare and the news that it is to be the penultimate volume.

The contents of the book are known only to the author, but she has apparently placed a small extract from it on her official website.
