Mock Tudor

Henry3 Mock Tudor‘IF graphologists were to analyse the scribblings of Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy, what would they conclude?

”Can we wait and see if we should cut her head off or not?”

That he had been at the whisky? No longer – the 45-year-old Scot has been trying recently to cut down his alcohol intake after criticism of his fondness for a wee dram.

That he was a man under stress? Perhaps – his party have slipped four points in the latest opinion polls and he himself has recently given up smoking?

That the writing doesn’t belong to Charles Kennedy at all, but to Henry VIII?

Quite possibly, as the Times reports that some Parliamentary colleagues have commented on a likeness to the oft-married Tudor king.

Henry VIII, the paper says, “was a red-headed monarch who began life with an Adonis-like figure and gradually descended into gross corpulence”.

Charles Kennedy, meanwhile, “is a red-headed politician who began life as a normal-sized Highland child but who has succumbed to a distinct portliness”.

There, however, the similarities end – although, if his first child (due on April 25th) is a girl, wife Sarah would do well to watch her neck…’
