‘“IT started with a gene called KiSS-1. Who’d have thought it would come to this?”

Puberty really does start with a kiss, says the Times, after scientists identified the aptly-named gene responsible for reawakening human reproductive hormones.

The KiSS-1 gene generates a protein called kisspeptin which in turn appears to send a signal to another gene called GPR54, which tells the body to start making the adult hormones that initiate adulthood.

Professor Tony Plant, who led the research, explains to the Telegraph the significance of the discovery.

“An appreciation of puberty’s deep-seated neurobiological mechanisms could, for instance, help prevent precocious or delayed puberty from occurring in some children.”

That’s all very well, but what about the awful body odour and the spots..?’
