‘BLIMEY! That was close. When confidential papers outlining David Cameron’s leadership strategy were stolen from an MPs car, we wondered.

We thought the contents of these documents would be made public and we’d finally get to know something about the man who would be prime minister.

But disaster has been averted. The Telegraph says that the papers have been returned.

The papers were in a bag stolen by an unknown thief. The villain broke into a car belonging to Tobias Ellwood, MP for Bournemouth and a member of Cameroon’s team.

“Naively, I believed that at a beauty spot in broad daylight my car would be OK for 10 minutes,” says Ellwood.

But not everyone is all bad. And the papers were returned when Ellwood called his mobile phone, which was in the stolen bag.

The phone rang. A voice answered. And a member of the public told Ellwood that his phone was now found and the papers had been stuffed into a nearby hedge.

Although how this anonymous person knew they were Cameron’s papers is beyond us. After all, there’s every chance they were totally blank sheets…’
