‘Imagine there’s no Beatles’ |
The paper has heard John Lennons definitive account of the bands demise, as told in a 1970 interview with the editor of Rolling Stone magazine Jann Wenner.
The full interview is to broadcast next month on BBC Radio 4, but the Mail has a few teasing extracts for you.
Lennon accuses Paul McCartney of being all form and no substance. He continues: One of the main reasons the Beatles ended is because…I pretty well know, we got fed up with being sidemen for Paul.
He says the other Beatles despised Yoko Ono and made him choose between them and her.
Says he: It seemed that I had to be married to them or Yoko. I chose Yoko… and I was right. They despised her. They insulted her and still do…they can go stuff themselves.
Of course, what he meant to say was, All you need is love…’
