Mend It Like Beckhams

‘HOW do you improve on perfection? Answer: You can’t. You just try to make it last that little bit longer.

A devotion to duty

And if you’re Victoria and Day-vid Beckham, you do it all over again. Yes, folks, reupholster the thrones, mobilise the doves and don’t mention the PA, the Beckhams are planning to renew their wedding vows.

As OK! writes, in light of recent “tumultuous events” (Posh’s singing career, Real Madrid 0 – Arsenal 1, the war in Iraq etc) “it’s important for the couple once again to show their devotion to each other”.

Some may argue that getting Day-vid to repeat his marriage vows will remind him what he said first time around. Others will point out that devotion is what the Beckhams do best.

Barely a week goes by without Vicky and Day-vid showing their devotion to one another as they wear matching outfits, cavort in the snow and make out in the back of a car.

We’ve seen the pictures. We’ve read and reread the interviews. And we’ve heard Elton John say: “Basically, they are two people that love each other very much.”

Just listen to Dave. “There’s no way in the world we will ever split up. Victoria and I didn’t get married to be together for a few years and then split up. We’re married for life and that’s the most important thing.”

Indeed. And this marriage makes money. But don’t fall into the trap of thinking that the Beckhams are in any way a brand. No, they are not. As Vicky says: “Our marriage is not a business arrangement.”

Although – as with any loving couple – they reserve the right to auction off their wedding snaps to the highest bidder…’
