Football Balls

She is standing on a dance floor with an arm in the air. She is either a) dancing; b) hailing a taxi; c) calling for a waiter to explain why the floor is mirrored and from a certain angle you can see up her road-safety-yellow dress.

So as not to embarrass Victoria Beckham any further, and enable her to let go of the tight grip she has on the crotch of her outfit, we hurry along inside the magazine to see more of the event that the Beckhams call Full Length & Fabulous.

This is the do that will send England’s World Cup football team off in style.

And the event that gives Lulu an airing. “There was a great party atmosphere,” says the singer. “People kept going up to David and Victoria to tell them it was one of the best parties they had even been to.”

One of the best parties? Ah, yes, of course, the Beckhams have trodden this path before. And before Lulu can screech “We-e—e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-lllllll!!!!” in our faces, we move on.

There is no end of stars and celebs. The England footballers are ether, all dressed in dark suits and sporting tans. Their wives and lovers are in attendance, too, each clad in an outfit more luminescent than the next, and with skin to match. One of this group is called Lisa Roughead, which may or may not be unfortunate.

Roberto Cavalli, the designer responsible for Vicky’s safety conscious dress is there, so too Vivienne Westwood, Matthew Williamson, Valentino and all the rest of Vicky’s fashion designer peers.

There’s the Duchess of York with her daughter Beatrice, Joan Collins and the mushroom-shaped Kelly Osbourne.

And Jade Jagger, Christian Slater, P Diddy, Robbie Williams, who performed an hour-long show, Gordon Ramsay effing and effing some more over the peanut butter parfait and thyme veloute, David Blaine performing tricks at tables and James Brown on stage with Will Young.

And above all this glitz we learn that it is all for charity. Which may explain why Sharon Osbourne was there as well…
