Butterflies All Round

FOR many of us the journey to the altar begins at the country hotel well-served by local transport links.

But for Michelle Heaton and Andy Scott-Lee it began in some other place.

It did not begin at the tanning salon, their eyes peeping out from beneath matching spoons, meeting over the spray gun, as he was transformed into a golden poppy and she to a tangelo.

The “journey” to Andy and Michelle’s winter wonderland-themed wedding “began nearly five years ago with a game of truth or dare”.

“Andy was dared…” says OK!. And the dare was not that he should romance Michelle and so trigger half a decade of love. That was chance. The dare was to kiss any part of Michelle’s body.

“He chose her foot!,” says OK!. “But on October 20 2006 it was a kiss on the lips.”

But between these top-and-toe kisses, there was much to do. And OK! is there to describe in no small detail the events of that “magical” wedding day.

We join the happy throng at the Priory in Little Wymondley. No celebrity rehabilitation celebs at this priory, where love in the only drug in abundance.

The place is bedecked in a style akin to walking through the wardrobe of Narnia. The interior to the barn was a vision of white birth trees covered in thousands of white orchids and “flocks of ivory and iridescent white butterflies.”

And into this insect house steps the groom. Having arrived in “an exclusive Range Rover Sport”, Andy looks suitably suited and booted. The designer of his silk and wool mixed with Barathea weave tells us the suit was made to enhance Andy’s figure.

“Andy has a very relaxed standing position and feels most comfortable with his hands in his pockets,” says the suit maker.

And Andy might well be testing out the pockets as he waits for the guests to arrive. They are being transported to the barn by double-decker bus. But the bus has got snared under a bridge. The guests have had to find taxis.

Half an hour later, the guests arrive. And “the winter wonderland could well have thawed with the electricity of the excitement that Michelle’s imminent arrival” is causing.

She arrives, swathed in a role of ivory-hued duchess satin. The pair take to the stage. Andy’s sister Lisa Scott Lee (Tragedy!) reads aloud the poem What Is Love? A choir sings Tonight I Celebrate My Love.

The bride and groom then make their vows. Tears are absorbed in tissues. Rings are exchanged.

The guests depart for prawn tempura with chilli dip, chicken satay skewers, mini tomato and goats cheese tartlets and “filo bags” filled with caramelised onions, cranberries and Camembert.

The bride and groom kiss, on the lips. They smile for photos. The butterflies are swept up. The barn is transformed into a disco.

And the journey is at an end…
