Laura Bush Is Coming To Town

by | 8th, December 2006

SEE the blazing land before us – Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la…

The jingle bell hop has begun and the great and not all that good of American politics are arriving for the White House black-tie ball.

There’s George Bush wearing only a black tie (ever the frat house prankster). And there’s his lovely wife Laura clad in so much red tulle jacket and floor-length trumpet skirt.

Guests at the do don’t know whether to shake Laura’s hand, kiss her or stick on top of the Christmas tree.

So there goes Laura. And there she goes again. And again. And again. But it’s not all her. As the Times reports, Laura is not the only one bedecked in such a fashion. In all, four women arrive in the same £5,000 Oscar de la Renta dress.

“Evidently Oscar is very popular this season,” says Mrs Bush’s press secretary. “It just goes to show that no one can resist a beautiful red gown.”

But Laura is not just a no one. Laura is someone. And a someone cannot be seen in the same attire as the anyones. As her secretary goes on to say: “She didn’t want the other guests to feel uncomfortable.”

Laura changed. And after a brief break in the fun, Laura returned to the party wearing a black lacy number.

Sadly for Laura she had already posed for the White House official Christmas card in that red dress.

The clear and present danger is that all those women on the receiving end of Laura’s seasonal missive will find her less than exceptional. “Get her in that £5,000 dress,” they’ll say, “how very ordinary. You’d think she’d make an effort.”

But Laura can yet save the day, and it doesn’t necessarily involve bombing the wardrobes of anyone else who dresses like her.

By employing cutting-edge technology to superimpose a white beard and jolly red cheeks on her face, Laura can look just the ticket.

“Merry Easter,” says George. “Ho-ho-ho.”
