You Say Episcopalian, I Say Anglican…
WHO says religious Americans are a bunch of right-wing nutcases? The Episcopalian Church in the US is suffering because it is too liberal.
The church moved a step closer to being thrown out of the Anglican Communion yesterday when it rejected a call from leaders of the worldwide Anglican Communion to set up a parallel, conservative body in the US.
Meeting in that renowned liberal enclave of Houston, Texas, American bishops said they were not willing to compromise their power or their commitment to equal rights for homosexuals.
The American bishops had previously called for an urgent meeting to discuss the standoff with the Archbishop of Canterbury.
But surprisingly the Most Rev. Rowan Williams’ calendar was full.
