Coleen McLoughlin Takes The Cake

coleen.jpg“WITH her adoring fiancé by her side COLEEN McLOUGHLIN is joined by family and premier league friends for the party of a lifetime.”

So says Hello! in the official invitation to Coleen’s birthday party. “Coleen would be delighted if YOU could join her to celebrate her 21st Birthday.”

Sadly, the invitation has arrived too late for many readers to join the party, but we are treated to pictures of what we could have seen. (Buy the official Coleen birthday cake and imagine your actually there.)

The extravaganza begins with Coleen being painted a vivid vermilion. She pulls on a long ivory and gold “Grecian-style” dress. And a £250,000 yellow diamond ring.

Ready for the circus-themed bash, Coleen, the painted lady, is ready to welcome her guests.

They really enter into the spirit of the thing, and Peter Crouch, Liverpool’s tall footballer, is feeling right at home among the stilt walkers.

“I just wanted to invite people I know really well and are important in my life,” says Coleen. And we are touched. “You don’t need celebrities to make a good party.”

Indeed, not. And it is only Hello! that notices the absence of David and Victoria Beckham, who declined the invitation.

But we get to see lots of other Wags and their footballers. The Wags line up for a photograph with Coleen at their centre.

The smiles are white. But aside from that and Coleen, there is little shine and dazzle.

If footballers’ wives are a barometer of the economic mood, we are in for tougher times. Alex Curran seems to have fashioned an outfit from a pair of purple drapes. You half expect her orangey glow to be the product of gravy browning in the family bath.

The Wags are part of the team effort. But as Hello! asks: “Does it bother you that your career only exists because you are Wayne’s girlfriend?”

Replies Coleen: “No, it doesn’t bother me…I feel I have done some things for me now, and it is even better being Coleen McLoughlin for the achievements I have made on my own and not just as a couple.”

The McLoughlin-Rooney party thank you for attending…
