Rudy Guiliani Says A Democrat White House Is Security Risk

giuliani.jpgTHE sluggish 2008 US Presidential race burst into life this week following Republican candidate Rudy Guiliani’s claim that a Democratic White House would be a security risk for America.

“We will wave the white flag on Iraq. We will cut back on the Patriot Act, electronic surveillance, interrogation. And we will be back to our pre-Sept. 11 attitude of defense,” the former mayor of New York told a New Hampshire Republican audience on Tuesday.

For the past few weeks, the candidates vying for the nomination from their respective parties have been relatively muted about each other’s strengths and weaknesses. But the soft-on-terror charge was too much for the Democrats and prompted an instant rebuttal from the three leading contenders.

Barack Obama accused Giuliani of taking “the politics of fear to a new low,” while Hillary Clinton said the War on Terror “shouldn’t be a Democratic fight or a Republican fight.”

Perhaps the most stinging counterattack was launched by John Edwards, of the paigeboy hairdo, who responded: “If that’s the ‘Republican’ way to fight terror, Giuliani should know that the American people are looking for a better plan.”

He added: “As far as the facts are concerned, the current Republican administration led us into a war in Iraq that has made us less safe and undermined the fight against Al Qaeda.”

Giuliani, who appears to be pulling away from rival Republican John McCain in the polls, reveled in the attention, telling conservative talk radio host Sean Hannity: “I was trying for a home run, but I think I got at least a triple – meaning I have got the three leading Democratic candidates attacking me.”

And it didn’t stop there. Giuliani played the War on Terror trump card, telling Hannity: “They [the Democrats] do not seem to get the fact that there are people, terrorists in this world, really dangerous people that want to come here and kill us. That in fact they did come here and kill us twice and they got away with it because we were on defense because we weren’t alert enough to the dangers and the risks.”
