Corporal Donald Payne: Britain’s First Convicted War Criminal

DONALD Payne has the honour of being Britain’s first convicted war criminal. He sentenced on Monday to one year in jail for mistreating Iraqi prisoners. The case saw senior commanders face allegations they had authorized abuse.

As Reuters reports, Corporal Donald Payne, who has been sacked from the Army, is the only British soldier punished in the case of Baha Musa, an Iraqi hotel receptionist who died after suffering 93 separate injuries from beatings while in British custody in 2003.
