Madeleine McCann: Watching The Parents
MORE no news on the Madeleine McCann case.
It is now a week since the three-year-old girl was snatched from a Portugal holiday resort.
The story has been distressing to watch on our TV screens. What it must like for the parents of Madeleine only a few can know.
BLAME
But their misery is far from complete. With no news of Madeleine, and the Portuguese police having no need to indulge the British tabloids with speculation and theory, Madeleine’s parents are the central characters.
And today’s front-page news, as reported by the caring Mirror, is: “THEY KNOW LEAVING KIDS WAS WRONG.”
Does the Mirror mean to say that Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry, now think they did the wrong thing in nipping out for a bite to eat and leaving the children in the apartment on what they thought was a secure resort?
Does the Mirror mean that the McCanns know that popping back regularly to look at their children and checking on their well being was less than perfect?
Does the Mirror mean that the McCanns realise they should not have left their children alone, just like it is wrong to leave a child in a hotel under the auspices of a baby monitoring service, to leave a child in the car while mum goes to pay for petrol, to talk to a neighbour over a garden fence while the children are indoors?
Of course this is not the Mirror’s view. Oh, no. This is Madeleine’s grandmother, Susan Healy, saying: “They know this was a mistake. But it wasn’t child neglect, it wasn’t not caring for your children.”
That she feels the need to say this is wrong. That the Mirror can lead with Madeleine’s grief-worn parents is pathetic and misguided. That the paper can talk of “people are asking why they didn’t make use of the crèche” at the resort or take the children out to dinner with them is wrong.
But the Mirror has news to write. And the police aren’t playing the game.
THEORIES
So the Mirror produces: “THE 6 THEORIES.”
Only six! Why this cautious approach? But it is all the Mirror has. And readers hear of the “PAEDOPHILE GANG”, the “LONE PAEDOPHILE”, the “JEALOUS MOTHER”, Madeleine wandering off and “DROWNED”, the “OPPORTUNIST PAEDOPHILE”, the “CHILDLESS COUPLE”.
But the Sun has more. It has 130 more. As the front-page headline screams: “MADDIE COPS HUNT 130 BRIT PAEDOS.”
The paper says “at least” 130 British paedophiles “might” have taken Madeleine McCann.
In “ALGARVE IS ‘HAVEN’ FOR PERVS”, readers learn that Portugal is a “magnet for sun-seeking perverts from Britain and the rest of Europe”.
Who knew that perverts get off on watching children at the beach?
Us And Them
But help is on its way. The Sun lists the British coppers who will go out there and see to it that justice is done. We, says the paper, are the only country with a sex offenders’ register.
All convicted perverts must inform the police of their desire to go abroad. At least 130 have. And the police are looking for them.
But – and whisper this – might it be that convicted sexual deviants don’t all tell the police what they plan to do? They are not monitored while overseas. And might it be that not all sexual predators are caught and make it to the list?
Among the policemans’ names is Detective Superintendent Graham Hill, attached to theChild Exploitation and Protection Centre. Hill is on the case. He has flown to Portugal.
Hill worked on the case of Milly Dowler. She was snatched from near Walton railway station, Surrey, in 2002. Her body was found six months later. Her killer or killers have never been caught.
Perhaps Hill’s experiences can help. Perhaps he’ll have more luck. Perhaps not.
Meanwhile, a family is distraught, and bearing up incredibly well under the strain and the merciless gaze of the newspapers…

Diane.
9/11 was seriously overated. How many bloody movies, documentaries, and conspiracy theories do we have to suffer from you Americanos?
Talk about an over-reaction.

Hello everyone,
Interesting blog…
Just noticed that:
On the official holiday company site that the Mc Cann’s used (M Warner) and in the apartment complex used by the family there is a service provided called ” DINE OUT ” . this option exsists because the company themselves state that the accomodations are spread out throughout the village.
DINE OUT ALLOWS YOU TO DRESS THE CHILDREN FOR BED AND LEAVE THEM IN THE KIDS CLUB AND PICK THEM UP WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED YOUR MEAL. From age 4 months.
i won’t copy and paste the info for copyright reasons but you can all look at this for yourselves.
Perhaps this is new on the website since the disapearance but it would make one wonder why 3 children under the age of 4 were left alone if this facility was available.
Also, eating out with children is a joy when abroad, why not take the kiddies. Obviously wanted time on their own..I hate to say it but they might be looking at a lot more of that in the future.
Silly people.

I agree with Katharine, I don’t believe a word the McCann’s utter. Personally I think they did something to her, (maybe hit her & she fell on to the hard floor), dumped her in the sea and set up the ‘abduction’. Reasons:-
How could 2 doctors not afford a creche? I cannot believe anyone with half a brain would leave 3 toddlers on their own, in a strange room, all night.
Why would a paedophile take the child sleeping between 2 others instead of one of the children on the outside? Doesn’t compute.
Why so few sightings of the ‘man carrying girl’? I’ve stayed in that resort, it would be noticed by a lot of people.
I’d love to see Madeline’s medical records, maybe she ‘fell down the stairs’ a few times……..

I dont think Madeleine’s parents were involved in the disappearance of their daughter at all and I think it is so unfair of people to think like that. If I had a child go missing I would hate someone to say I was involved. Imagine going through all the trauma of losing a child in the first place and then have fingers pointed at you - how do you deal with that. Nobody should accuse someone of doing a crime unless they are 100% percent sure of it and have all the proof at hand. Just look at the poor mother’s face and you can see she is grieving.
I hope Madeleine does come home very soon, but the longer it takes, the more bleak it looks. How sad. I have a very strong feeling that Maeleine is well and being taken care of though.
Good luck McCanns.

From the second I heard about this story, I had a feeling it was her parents. Yes, the articles all talked about how great they are for remaining positive and composed, but you can see how rehearsed it all is. They obviously didn’t steal Madeleine themselves, but most poeple have a pretty good idea what they could have done. I think they became overwhelmed with the children. No parent could even think of leaving two one-year-olds and a three-year-old alone in a hotel room for 30 minutes at a time. I think maybe one of the family’s friends (a couple) that couldn’t get pregnant were very desperate, maybe even got rejected for adoption. No abductor would know exactly when the couple would “pop in” to check up, and where exactly Madeleine was sleeping (right below the window, imagine that.) and that it would be unlocked. If they had met Madeleine before, maybe came over for dinner, and her parents told her she would be staying with them for a while, she would sleep right through it. Send the husband to pick up the girl and take her home, not hard at all. People even saw a man walking by CARRYING A GIRL IN PAJAMAS MATCHING MADDY’S AND WALKING AWAY FROM THE HOTEL ROOM, and it wasn’t reported to the authorities until a month after she was taken. Their whole family seems to be in on it, what with her uncle laughing and joking on camera. Why didn’t the childless couple take the twins then? First of all, TWO babies, and they would wake up and start screaming. One man couldn’t take both at the same time either. Now the parents aren’t even pretending their looking for her, she’s barely gone a month and they stop looking so they can “grieve.” Now they wait weeks to go somewhere they get calls TELLING them she’s there, maybe to let some people cover their tracks…? Well basically, they just sold their little girl, and are offering so much money to make themselves look good. DON’T WORRY MADDIE, WHEN THEY FIND YOU YOUR PARENTS WILL GO TO JAIL FOR A ONG LONG TIME, AND YOU WILL BE BACK WITH YOUR BROTHER AND SISTER AGAIN.

Most journalists are bottom feeders. If there is no news, they make it up. I guess free speech allows them to get away with their nasty speculations. Only the McCann’s have the power to sue. which requires a lot of energy which they do not have at this terrible time in their lives. Of course this type of yellow journalism works, as so many people love sensationalism and this type of accusation certainly qualifies as that. Anyway, let us keep hoping that there is news of Maddie soon, so that these poor people can get back to their lives, which no matter what happens will be forever changed
June 8th, 2007 at 9:28 pm
Does anyone think that the German journalist Sabina Mueller should go to prison after saying that more and more people are pointing the finger at the McCanns for the abduction. And that they’re not acting the way amyone else would when their child has been abducted? They’re trying to hold it together. And she also said that they’re either good actor, or they’re telling the truth. She needs to go to prison, or she should lose her job as a journalist.
And that person who rang might want to kill the McCanns. I hope he doesn’t. Just get her found, please. I’ve even been crying at night. And I keep thinking about that German journalist. I just want her to go to prison, lose her job, or do community service!
June 8th, 2007 at 4:26 pm
Hopefully, the mystery caller is someone who knows where Madeline is. One wonders if it would be best to keep this kind of news out of the media. All this information about tracing the call could scare this person off and he (they) may not want to risk discovery in calling again.

Hi All had an off day yesterday so couldnt comment and yet still no news on Madeleine. So very sad. How does a parent actually deal with this kind of thing, not knowing whether your child is dead or alive, I dont think there is anything worse than that, the emotion of it all is just too much to imagine.
I saw the comment about blonde white kids being brought into South Africa, and I have to admit, this is the first I have ever heard of it. I have heard of it in other countries of course and one doesnt want to believe it of their own country. There are a lot of kids both black and white in South Africa who need a loving home to go to, but mostly people here want newborn, white babies and babies are almost impossible to find. The older kids are far more difficult to place, but they are available for adoption. I think our child protection and care facilities are very poor and even though we now have a black government in place, the black kids still suffer more than the white kids. There are hundreds, maybe even thousands of black street kids around but for some reason maybe because the white population here is so small, there arent white street kids.
Anyhow, my point is, that there are blonde, white kids available for adoption here so unless our kids are really ugly to others (which they arent because all kids are beautiful) then I dont see the point in paying enormous sums of money to steal a child from another country. Mostly kids that go missing here are targetted for sex crimes etc. and you dont often hear about a child being snatched in the first place, but it does happen.

I only came onto this site cos I did a search on Leonie (the girl from the caravan). I was young when that happend and couldn’t for the life of me remember what the outcome was. It’s something that’s bugged me for years but intermittently. Thanks keyholekate for answering without realising.
BTW i’ve many views on this matter but having read through a majority of the others, it would seem that it has all been said before so I won’t bore you all. Suffice to say I wouldn’t leave my kids home alone while i nipped out for something to eat in the bup/restaurant over the road but I have left them in the car while I paid for petrol! Double standards you may say………….

Even if she is the hands of a madman i think she’ll get out of it alive. I think the reason for no news is because its good news. I reckon shes been taken by a bloke for some1 who cant have kids of their own. I reckon shes been soled. but what do i know really im just going by my deep gut instincts.
