Madeleine McCann: Watching The Parents
MORE no news on the Madeleine McCann case.
It is now a week since the three-year-old girl was snatched from a Portugal holiday resort.
The story has been distressing to watch on our TV screens. What it must like for the parents of Madeleine only a few can know.
BLAME
But their misery is far from complete. With no news of Madeleine, and the Portuguese police having no need to indulge the British tabloids with speculation and theory, Madeleine’s parents are the central characters.
And today’s front-page news, as reported by the caring Mirror, is: “THEY KNOW LEAVING KIDS WAS WRONG.”
Does the Mirror mean to say that Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry, now think they did the wrong thing in nipping out for a bite to eat and leaving the children in the apartment on what they thought was a secure resort?
Does the Mirror mean that the McCanns know that popping back regularly to look at their children and checking on their well being was less than perfect?
Does the Mirror mean that the McCanns realise they should not have left their children alone, just like it is wrong to leave a child in a hotel under the auspices of a baby monitoring service, to leave a child in the car while mum goes to pay for petrol, to talk to a neighbour over a garden fence while the children are indoors?
Of course this is not the Mirror’s view. Oh, no. This is Madeleine’s grandmother, Susan Healy, saying: “They know this was a mistake. But it wasn’t child neglect, it wasn’t not caring for your children.”
That she feels the need to say this is wrong. That the Mirror can lead with Madeleine’s grief-worn parents is pathetic and misguided. That the paper can talk of “people are asking why they didn’t make use of the crèche” at the resort or take the children out to dinner with them is wrong.
But the Mirror has news to write. And the police aren’t playing the game.
THEORIES
So the Mirror produces: “THE 6 THEORIES.”
Only six! Why this cautious approach? But it is all the Mirror has. And readers hear of the “PAEDOPHILE GANG”, the “LONE PAEDOPHILE”, the “JEALOUS MOTHER”, Madeleine wandering off and “DROWNED”, the “OPPORTUNIST PAEDOPHILE”, the “CHILDLESS COUPLE”.
But the Sun has more. It has 130 more. As the front-page headline screams: “MADDIE COPS HUNT 130 BRIT PAEDOS.”
The paper says “at least” 130 British paedophiles “might” have taken Madeleine McCann.
In “ALGARVE IS ‘HAVEN’ FOR PERVS”, readers learn that Portugal is a “magnet for sun-seeking perverts from Britain and the rest of Europe”.
Who knew that perverts get off on watching children at the beach?
Us And Them
But help is on its way. The Sun lists the British coppers who will go out there and see to it that justice is done. We, says the paper, are the only country with a sex offenders’ register.
All convicted perverts must inform the police of their desire to go abroad. At least 130 have. And the police are looking for them.
But – and whisper this – might it be that convicted sexual deviants don’t all tell the police what they plan to do? They are not monitored while overseas. And might it be that not all sexual predators are caught and make it to the list?
Among the policemans’ names is Detective Superintendent Graham Hill, attached to theChild Exploitation and Protection Centre. Hill is on the case. He has flown to Portugal.
Hill worked on the case of Milly Dowler. She was snatched from near Walton railway station, Surrey, in 2002. Her body was found six months later. Her killer or killers have never been caught.
Perhaps Hill’s experiences can help. Perhaps he’ll have more luck. Perhaps not.
Meanwhile, a family is distraught, and bearing up incredibly well under the strain and the merciless gaze of the newspapers…

God didn’t make the little green apples, and it don’t rain in Indianapolis in the summer time.
After recent informal conversations with the PJ, in the certainty that the Ms cannot turn back the clock, I can tell you that, roughly, what they are looking into is the following:
In the first place there has never been any proof whatsoever of a break-in, any sign of violence or of an abduction. The abduction story is a McCanns invention. The Portuguese police has been treating the incident as a disappearance.
After Maddy disappeared Mr M very quickly started a “˜Find Maddy fund” and people were donating into it. It must have accumulated X number of thousand pounds.
Shortly after Maddy disappeared, Mr M formed an unusual type of company to handle the funds which were being donated by sympathetic people.
Very convenient. While everybody is frantically looking for his daughter all he can think of his forming that special type of company and setting up a fund which can only be used as he thinks fit.
Around that time, A reporter asked Mr M about the purpose of the fund and he said that it was going to be used â “to continue searching for Maddy after the end of the official search.” This was odd. Is he so sure that that the ongoing search and investigation not going to yield any results?
Then there was all the high profile exposure, Fatima, David Beckam, the Pope and initial stages of their planned globetrotting caper which came to a sudden stop as soon as “not so gullible reporters” started to ask awkward questions about their involvement in Maddy’s disappearance and they could see that there were more to come.
They never showed any signs of emotion. Never a passionate plea to Maddy’s abductor(s).
The facts based on statements to the Portuguese police indicate that:
A suspeita prende-se, por um lado, com a firme recusa do casal em aceitar o serviço de baby-sitting nocturno que estava incluÃdo no pacote de férias (o serviço da baby-sitter só era solicitado durante o dia) e, por outro, com o facto de na noite em que desapareceu a menina, os pais “não terem saÃdo da mesa para irem ao quarto ver os filhos, enquanto jantavam”, ao contrário do que tem sido noticiado desde a primeira hora. “Os meus filhos ficam muito bem assim”, terá afirmado um dos elementos do casal a um funcionário do The Ocean Club.
The suspicion is based, on the one hand, on the firm refusal of the couple to accept the evening baby-sitting service which was included in their package holiday (they only requested it during the day), and on the other hand, on the fact that on the evenining when the little girl disappeared her parents “never left the table to go to see their children in their room”. This cannot be reconciled with what we were told at the beginning. “My children are alright like that”, said one of the parents to a member of the Ocean Club staff.
IT IS NOW BELIEVED THAT ALL OF THIS SEEMS TO INDICATE THAT THERE WAS NO BREAK-IN. THAT MADDY WAS NOT ABDUCTED. THAT THE McCANNS STAYED AT THE FAMOUS TAPAS BAR FOR AS LONG AS WAS CONVENIENT FOR THE EXECUTION OF THEIR PLAN UNTIL MRS. M WENT TO “CHECK” AND CAME BACK TO THE TAPAS BAR WITH HER FAMOUS “THEY’VE TAKEN HER”.
While money keeps coming into the fund, would it now be in the best interests of Mr M ˜to find Maddy? No way! Only they know when and how they are going to, hopefully, “stage” Maddy’s “reappearance”
Sorry folks, but WE’VE BEEN HAD and have wasted a lot of time and effort trying to figure out how something which never took place happened.
The McCanns must have expected that their dinner at nearby restaurant with regular checks, followed by Mrs M’s “They have takken her” would stick…..but it didn’t.
The McCanns must have been laughing their heads off thinking “If negligence is all they can accuse us of, we can live with that”.
Where is that nanny?

Here we go again with the sightings in Malta as per Sky news. I wish they would clarify what “sightings” mean. Are they fleeting glimpses, close ups or “I think I saw her”. At least one person took a picture, alas, it was not Maddie.
As to the blame game, it was a mistake and a very high price was paid by the McCann’s. But the focus cannot be on could have, would have, should have, but on finding the child. Also, on trying to do something about these criminal sex rings. Put your energy into writing your elected officials and demand action.
I have seen these people interviewed on TV from prison and they usually pick on “attractive young children” who are highly marketable. They scour neighbourhood backyards, kids coming from school, distracted parents who are shopping (yes watch out for your kids playing and hiding in the clothing racks) while you are shopping, actually anywhere kids are, so develop eyes in the back and sides of your head, because these animals are expert at what they do and can grab or lure a child in a split second. Does monitoring your kids to this extent seem like a daunting task for parents, well yes it is, so let us all focus on trying to stop the perpetrators who are doing these dreadful things. On a more positive note, it is fortunate that our kids will be safe most of the time in these situations.

It’s sad she is missing… but its the parents fault. How can you go to dinner and leave you’re kids alone in room? Even if she haddn’t of been kidnapped (not that there is really any evidence of this), there area number of dangerous things that could happen to a young child. Totally irresponsible parenting. And before anyone says it… yes I do have a child… and no I wouldnt leave him on his own.
If this incident had involved lower class parents everyone would have ripped them apart by now. I don’t see why the McCanns actions should be sympathised with.
I hope the McCanns can live with the fact that they chose a bit of fun over their childs life.

Sky News reports 14 sightings of Maddie in Malta. I do not understand why the people who are reporting these sightings are not actively doing more. Example, if I saw, or thought I saw a child resembling Maddie I would personally follow that lead and keep them in my sights. until the police arrived. Also,would request help from people around me.

I’m not religious, so I think praying doesn’t help, but it gives strength to the people who believe in it. All the support strengthen the parents of Madeline and that is great. All these thoughts of the people is impressive.
I don’t watch TV, so I don’t know what’s going on every day. Since I heard about this, I’m finding myself searching the internet for news about Maddy.
The kidnappers are obviously not interested in money, but I think it is a great idea to offer that and try. If Madeline is still alive, they’ll maybe get weak by getting offered a high amount of money.
What a cruel feeling not to know anything, and also to know that you maybe never find anything out.

No, the blame lies with the parents as well and anybody who thinks otherwise is a fool.
You do not leave a four year-old alone in a room with a pair of twins in your own home yet alone in a hotel/resort/whatever and leave a door open while you pop off to the local diner for drinks and food with friends, let us forget about the millions of things that could have went wrong with unattended children and that happen on this Earth on an everyday basis.
Child neglect? your damn skippy.
