Madeleine McCann: Watching The Parents
MORE no news on the Madeleine McCann case.
It is now a week since the three-year-old girl was snatched from a Portugal holiday resort.
The story has been distressing to watch on our TV screens. What it must like for the parents of Madeleine only a few can know.
BLAME
But their misery is far from complete. With no news of Madeleine, and the Portuguese police having no need to indulge the British tabloids with speculation and theory, Madeleine’s parents are the central characters.
And today’s front-page news, as reported by the caring Mirror, is: “THEY KNOW LEAVING KIDS WAS WRONG.”
Does the Mirror mean to say that Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry, now think they did the wrong thing in nipping out for a bite to eat and leaving the children in the apartment on what they thought was a secure resort?
Does the Mirror mean that the McCanns know that popping back regularly to look at their children and checking on their well being was less than perfect?
Does the Mirror mean that the McCanns realise they should not have left their children alone, just like it is wrong to leave a child in a hotel under the auspices of a baby monitoring service, to leave a child in the car while mum goes to pay for petrol, to talk to a neighbour over a garden fence while the children are indoors?
Of course this is not the Mirror’s view. Oh, no. This is Madeleine’s grandmother, Susan Healy, saying: “They know this was a mistake. But it wasn’t child neglect, it wasn’t not caring for your children.”
That she feels the need to say this is wrong. That the Mirror can lead with Madeleine’s grief-worn parents is pathetic and misguided. That the paper can talk of “people are asking why they didn’t make use of the crèche” at the resort or take the children out to dinner with them is wrong.
But the Mirror has news to write. And the police aren’t playing the game.
THEORIES
So the Mirror produces: “THE 6 THEORIES.”
Only six! Why this cautious approach? But it is all the Mirror has. And readers hear of the “PAEDOPHILE GANG”, the “LONE PAEDOPHILE”, the “JEALOUS MOTHER”, Madeleine wandering off and “DROWNED”, the “OPPORTUNIST PAEDOPHILE”, the “CHILDLESS COUPLE”.
But the Sun has more. It has 130 more. As the front-page headline screams: “MADDIE COPS HUNT 130 BRIT PAEDOS.”
The paper says “at least” 130 British paedophiles “might” have taken Madeleine McCann.
In “ALGARVE IS ‘HAVEN’ FOR PERVS”, readers learn that Portugal is a “magnet for sun-seeking perverts from Britain and the rest of Europe”.
Who knew that perverts get off on watching children at the beach?
Us And Them
But help is on its way. The Sun lists the British coppers who will go out there and see to it that justice is done. We, says the paper, are the only country with a sex offenders’ register.
All convicted perverts must inform the police of their desire to go abroad. At least 130 have. And the police are looking for them.
But – and whisper this – might it be that convicted sexual deviants don’t all tell the police what they plan to do? They are not monitored while overseas. And might it be that not all sexual predators are caught and make it to the list?
Among the policemans’ names is Detective Superintendent Graham Hill, attached to theChild Exploitation and Protection Centre. Hill is on the case. He has flown to Portugal.
Hill worked on the case of Milly Dowler. She was snatched from near Walton railway station, Surrey, in 2002. Her body was found six months later. Her killer or killers have never been caught.
Perhaps Hill’s experiences can help. Perhaps he’ll have more luck. Perhaps not.
Meanwhile, a family is distraught, and bearing up incredibly well under the strain and the merciless gaze of the newspapers…

One of the caracteristic of all chordatas is that they have tail with postanal position. Therefor tail begins right after the anus and in most snakes it`s quite short (compare to the body length). In the legless lizards the tail is much longer comparing to the body (one way of distinguishing them). The ventral side of the snake tail has two rows of plates but only one row on the body (at least in Europe).

The Portuguese police interviewed three of our friends again today, to clarify points in their initial statements. As most of you will know, there is a lot of misleading information being published, both in the press and on the internet, about the events leading up to Madeleine’s disappearance and the criminal investigation. We would like to give more information, especially about inaccurate and hurtful reports, but cannot for fear of prejudicing any subsequent court proceedings.
What is the purpose of hurting people unnecessarily who are already broken? Its like watching people kicking someone when they are down.

Sorry Cathy, I ‘m afraid I’m with Clare on this one, although you do have some interesting theories on the investigation its fair to say that no body outside of the investigating team really knows this kind of stuff to any degree worth talking about and the focus on the parents has passed its sell by date at least until the little girl is found as they are very important to the campaign. You/We can trash out the recriminations and punishments afterwards but for now stick to the main points the little girl needs to be found, a fund has been set up, the fund will then go on to help othe families in this predicament and if they are clever it can continue indefinately.

I hope and feel that the whole damn lot is a money making scam - and I really feel in my heart that the little girl is here safe and well and being looked after in the UK - I also think that if this is the case she was shipped out of the appartment long before the McCanns went to the restaurant. The timescale was such that security cameras were only checked after the McCanns said that they had left the appartment - why would the police need to check footage before that time? So eventually the footage is lost from the cameras and are assumed to be not relevant as the time of abduction (according to the parents) was between 9 and 10 pm. The kid could have been back in the UK by the following morning - and now here’s a theory - getting through on a passport maybe borrowed from Murats daughter - outstanding similarities and the dozy night time border checks wouldnt notice the difference - All just a thought!! The McCanns did not include UK in their European Tour did they?

Clare - Just get real and take care of your own world - the McCanns are calculated enough to look after their own welfare themselves. I am pretty sure in my mind that this little girl is back here safe and well being looked after in the UK. If she is not safe then I think that time will tell that this is not a cut and dried case of child abduction - the whole issue stinks.

Hmmm i am really stopping the police by sitting on here asking questions about the case i dont need to know every small detail i just feel that this seems strange. I i was told that a gang of Paedophiles had my 4 yr old i wouldnt be able to cope, just the thought makes my blod boil. I may react diffrent i dont know and i never want to find out but i couldnt carry on with everyday life altghough with the other children you would have to carry on.
I really dont think that the McCanns have hurt Maddy they did however act stupidly leaving her, i think she actually left the hotel looking fr mummy and met the oppotunist paedophile, This would correspond with a little girl being carried away by a man from near the apartment and the little girl asked if they were ging to see mummy now.
I also cant really see the fund being a scam, they wouldnt get away with anything like that and how would they have known that it would have been such a hit. What parents could think of exchanging thier daughter for a fund and so openly show the world. I dont believe it , but maybe your right im wrong who knows so many people believe this sort of thing happened. But i dont.
The McCanns should be back in the uk now though is what i think giving those twins the security of family and friends again, they dont need to spend thier days in play centres and if i had lost my baby i would want to be home close to the happy memories of her not where the worst thing inthe world for me happened.
They can do what they are ding in portugal from home.
