Madeleine McCann: Watching The Parents
MORE no news on the Madeleine McCann case.
It is now a week since the three-year-old girl was snatched from a Portugal holiday resort.
The story has been distressing to watch on our TV screens. What it must like for the parents of Madeleine only a few can know.
BLAME
But their misery is far from complete. With no news of Madeleine, and the Portuguese police having no need to indulge the British tabloids with speculation and theory, Madeleine’s parents are the central characters.
And today’s front-page news, as reported by the caring Mirror, is: “THEY KNOW LEAVING KIDS WAS WRONG.”
Does the Mirror mean to say that Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry, now think they did the wrong thing in nipping out for a bite to eat and leaving the children in the apartment on what they thought was a secure resort?
Does the Mirror mean that the McCanns know that popping back regularly to look at their children and checking on their well being was less than perfect?
Does the Mirror mean that the McCanns realise they should not have left their children alone, just like it is wrong to leave a child in a hotel under the auspices of a baby monitoring service, to leave a child in the car while mum goes to pay for petrol, to talk to a neighbour over a garden fence while the children are indoors?
Of course this is not the Mirror’s view. Oh, no. This is Madeleine’s grandmother, Susan Healy, saying: “They know this was a mistake. But it wasn’t child neglect, it wasn’t not caring for your children.”
That she feels the need to say this is wrong. That the Mirror can lead with Madeleine’s grief-worn parents is pathetic and misguided. That the paper can talk of “people are asking why they didn’t make use of the crèche” at the resort or take the children out to dinner with them is wrong.
But the Mirror has news to write. And the police aren’t playing the game.
THEORIES
So the Mirror produces: “THE 6 THEORIES.”
Only six! Why this cautious approach? But it is all the Mirror has. And readers hear of the “PAEDOPHILE GANG”, the “LONE PAEDOPHILE”, the “JEALOUS MOTHER”, Madeleine wandering off and “DROWNED”, the “OPPORTUNIST PAEDOPHILE”, the “CHILDLESS COUPLE”.
But the Sun has more. It has 130 more. As the front-page headline screams: “MADDIE COPS HUNT 130 BRIT PAEDOS.”
The paper says “at least” 130 British paedophiles “might” have taken Madeleine McCann.
In “ALGARVE IS ‘HAVEN’ FOR PERVS”, readers learn that Portugal is a “magnet for sun-seeking perverts from Britain and the rest of Europe”.
Who knew that perverts get off on watching children at the beach?
Us And Them
But help is on its way. The Sun lists the British coppers who will go out there and see to it that justice is done. We, says the paper, are the only country with a sex offenders’ register.
All convicted perverts must inform the police of their desire to go abroad. At least 130 have. And the police are looking for them.
But – and whisper this – might it be that convicted sexual deviants don’t all tell the police what they plan to do? They are not monitored while overseas. And might it be that not all sexual predators are caught and make it to the list?
Among the policemans’ names is Detective Superintendent Graham Hill, attached to theChild Exploitation and Protection Centre. Hill is on the case. He has flown to Portugal.
Hill worked on the case of Milly Dowler. She was snatched from near Walton railway station, Surrey, in 2002. Her body was found six months later. Her killer or killers have never been caught.
Perhaps Hill’s experiences can help. Perhaps he’ll have more luck. Perhaps not.
Meanwhile, a family is distraught, and bearing up incredibly well under the strain and the merciless gaze of the newspapers…

What i think is …The people who posted bad comments about the Mccanns should keep it to themselfs… I couldnt imagine what the Mccanns are feeling,They just want there daughter back thats all…..We are all human how can you kick someone when there down??? Praying for Madeleine and her family; come through this whole tragedy okay. Jogging is a stress relief and is a natural tranquilizer; I’d jog too if I had a missing child; help keep them sane during this whole fearful time in their lives. Why there isn’t more compassion for this family going through hell right now? Don’t understand the lack of understanding and humanity. It’s disgusting what some people say on these forums. Bless the McCann family and give them continued strength to fight for their daughters safe return. Prayers for all of you. Bless little Madeleine and hope the police arrest someone very soon!

In war innocent people get killed that cant be helped but allot of innocent people got killed by terrorists when there wasn’t a war, don’t tell me wonky that you don’t agree with war. Without it we would not have the country we do now.
This argument about who left the kids and who is to blame has become really pathetic, who cares its the finding of Madeleine that matters. What help is it people cursing at the parents for leaving her that is of no use.
I believe that thier is something really strange with the McCanns, i dont think they have done anything illegal though and the fund isnt for thier lifestyle,but they are a strange pair i just cant seem to work out what it is about them.

By the way Mike/Cathy/Donkey , whatever name you are using today, I read your blog. Are you aware that its just a very angry site.
Its all attacks and put downs towards the Mcanns and really very hurtful stuff.
Do you have anything constructive to add or are you just interested in attacking them on every level?
Is there something personal going on i.e. are you harbouring abandonment /poor parenting issues yourself. Anger is a form of defense.
Isnt this just a waste of energy.
You have never expressed a desire to find Madeline. Why is this?
Nothing or nobody is going to stop them until they find solve this case one way or another and find Madeline. They realise they have made a mistake. Is this any reason to continue tormenting them?
Its is quite likely that they will be faced with questioning by the police on this issue.
But for now all efforts are focused on what is important - finding Madeline.
and this wont go away until she is found.
Right now there are millions of people who are commited to this case in a very real way.
I fail to see any rationale to your attacks.
You attack the fund because it is a limited company to help the parents. Yes that is exactly what it is. There is no secret in this. The information is readily available on the internet.
Some people have their children abducted through no fault of their own. I would support these equally for the sake of the children if I knew of them but up till now I didnt and there was nothing organised to do so. now there is. And hopefully going forward any parent can do likewise.
What do you want to see happen?

I am writing from the US. The Madeline Mcann story has sadly reached our shores here and has received a lot of publicity It has also brought a lot of attention and highlighted a number of these types of cases in the US where parents are gaining the courage to go public.
I believe that in her father coming to America to try and highlight the issue of his own daughterss disappearance that it will also bring more attention to our own child abduction cases and we extend our welcome and pledge to help in any way possible.
I have been reading this forum and am absoulutely astounded at the way some of the English people are behaving towards this family. This fact has been highlighted along with the reputation that English people have at football matches etc… It makes one wonder if is this typical of English mannerisms?

Yes when I contibute to the Madeline Mcann fund I am doing so in the full knowledge that it is for the purpose of enabling the parents to continue on their search for their daughter. It is a limited company which will have to produce audited tax returns so take your poision and your aliases and all the paedophilic groups you are trying to take the focus of and take a long walk on a short plank.

my god what the hell is wrong with gerry mccann? He just cant keep still for 2 minutes can he? Off to the USA now, where after that I wonder. When is the farce going to end? What does he think this is going to acheive? I for one cant stand much more of this. I just hope the truth comes out soon . He really has got some front. When the hell are the police gonna wake up? The answers they are looking for is right in front of their eyes! Considering what happened it seems very odd that Gerry doesn’t seem to be able to spend more that the odd day or two with his wife and 2 kids before jetting off somewhere else.

Ermm….am I the only one to agree that they are acting in a very bizarre manner? They should be back in Britain now and trying to live a life for their other children. Not jetting off to US etc etc. Personally I think they deserve Social Care looking into this, if they were a council estate family do you think the feeling of pity would be the same? I hope the girl is alive, of course, but the limbo is now becoming too much.

“The father of missing Madeleine McCann is flying to Washington where he may meet Laura Bush.
Gerry McCann will visit WashingtonGerry McCann will be in the US tomorrow to talk to American politicians and child abduction experts.
But he is also reportedly hoping to meet the wife of President Bush during his three-day trip.
The Daily Mirror said Mrs Bush had read about the family’s plight and wanted to lend her personal support to the family.
A source told the newspaper: “Plans are still being finalised but it is hoped Gerry and Laura will meet at some point during the trip.”
Mr McCann will visit the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children to learn about techniques that might help find his daughter.
“We want to to work closely with the police and child welfare agencies in maintaining the profile of Madeleine’s disappearance and other children’s disappearances,” the source said.
The NCMEC was set up in 1984 following the murder of six-year-old Adam Walsh.
He was abducted from a Florida shopping centre.

There have been over 2 million pounds offered by various business people - including - I believe - Richard Branson. This is apart from the fund money. REWARD MONEY?!?!? Did they ever say the donations were a reward. I recently read that the uncle(who is in charge of the paypal account and donations)said large sums of money are due to pay for the apartment they live in and to pay for travel and to pay for having things made. Am i correct to assume that is what the money is being used for?
