Madeleine McCann: Watching The Parents
MORE no news on the Madeleine McCann case.
It is now a week since the three-year-old girl was snatched from a Portugal holiday resort.
The story has been distressing to watch on our TV screens. What it must like for the parents of Madeleine only a few can know.
BLAME
But their misery is far from complete. With no news of Madeleine, and the Portuguese police having no need to indulge the British tabloids with speculation and theory, Madeleine’s parents are the central characters.
And today’s front-page news, as reported by the caring Mirror, is: “THEY KNOW LEAVING KIDS WAS WRONG.”
Does the Mirror mean to say that Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry, now think they did the wrong thing in nipping out for a bite to eat and leaving the children in the apartment on what they thought was a secure resort?
Does the Mirror mean that the McCanns know that popping back regularly to look at their children and checking on their well being was less than perfect?
Does the Mirror mean that the McCanns realise they should not have left their children alone, just like it is wrong to leave a child in a hotel under the auspices of a baby monitoring service, to leave a child in the car while mum goes to pay for petrol, to talk to a neighbour over a garden fence while the children are indoors?
Of course this is not the Mirror’s view. Oh, no. This is Madeleine’s grandmother, Susan Healy, saying: “They know this was a mistake. But it wasn’t child neglect, it wasn’t not caring for your children.”
That she feels the need to say this is wrong. That the Mirror can lead with Madeleine’s grief-worn parents is pathetic and misguided. That the paper can talk of “people are asking why they didn’t make use of the crèche” at the resort or take the children out to dinner with them is wrong.
But the Mirror has news to write. And the police aren’t playing the game.
THEORIES
So the Mirror produces: “THE 6 THEORIES.”
Only six! Why this cautious approach? But it is all the Mirror has. And readers hear of the “PAEDOPHILE GANG”, the “LONE PAEDOPHILE”, the “JEALOUS MOTHER”, Madeleine wandering off and “DROWNED”, the “OPPORTUNIST PAEDOPHILE”, the “CHILDLESS COUPLE”.
But the Sun has more. It has 130 more. As the front-page headline screams: “MADDIE COPS HUNT 130 BRIT PAEDOS.”
The paper says “at least” 130 British paedophiles “might” have taken Madeleine McCann.
In “ALGARVE IS ‘HAVEN’ FOR PERVS”, readers learn that Portugal is a “magnet for sun-seeking perverts from Britain and the rest of Europe”.
Who knew that perverts get off on watching children at the beach?
Us And Them
But help is on its way. The Sun lists the British coppers who will go out there and see to it that justice is done. We, says the paper, are the only country with a sex offenders’ register.
All convicted perverts must inform the police of their desire to go abroad. At least 130 have. And the police are looking for them.
But – and whisper this – might it be that convicted sexual deviants don’t all tell the police what they plan to do? They are not monitored while overseas. And might it be that not all sexual predators are caught and make it to the list?
Among the policemans’ names is Detective Superintendent Graham Hill, attached to theChild Exploitation and Protection Centre. Hill is on the case. He has flown to Portugal.
Hill worked on the case of Milly Dowler. She was snatched from near Walton railway station, Surrey, in 2002. Her body was found six months later. Her killer or killers have never been caught.
Perhaps Hill’s experiences can help. Perhaps he’ll have more luck. Perhaps not.
Meanwhile, a family is distraught, and bearing up incredibly well under the strain and the merciless gaze of the newspapers…

I want to know why the Mccanns were not charged with neglect? I believe the twins should be taken from them, even if they are placed with grandparents or other family and allowed only supervised visits from Kate and Gerry.
There are too many unanswered questions from May 3rd. How can the Mccanns friends take a vow of silence? What are they afraid they will not answer correctly.
I believe the Mccanns are selfish as far as their children are concerned. They put their drinking and entertaining themselves ahead of their childrens safety.
I hope the police wake up and find some solid evidence in reference to what happen to Maddie and where she is. No child should be treated like this.

If you go to the Virgin website you will see Branson’s own quote on
how: “Brand is everything”
http://virgin.co.uk/AboutVirgin/RichardBranson/RichardReplies.aspx?L3_GenericContent_NavigateToPage=2
“Branding is also important. If you get your face and your name out there enough, people will start to recognise you. Many people know the Virgin brand better than the names of the individual companies within the group. A young girl once came up to me and told me I could be famous because I looked just like Richard Branson! Branding is everything. I think it’s also wise to diversify; this enables you to have a contingency plan when the economy is going through a rough patch”
Speaking of this ROUGH PATCH Richy Baby, what are your thoughts?:
“Whenever I experience any kind of setbacks, I always pick myself up and try again. I prepare myself to have another stab at things with the knowledge I’ve gained from the previous failure. My mother always taught me never to look back in regret, but to move on to the next thing. The amount of time that people waste on failures, rather than putting that energy into another project, always amazes me. I have fun running the Virgin businesses, so a setback is never a bad experience, just a learning curve”
Great.
“Finally, I’d better not forget luck. The odd bit of luck goes a long way. We were lucky to sign Mike Oldfield and we were lucky to get hold of the Sex Pistols in 1977. We’ve also been lucky that people liked Virgin Atlantic’s unique airline service across the Atlantic, and I was lucky to survive all my balloon and boat trips!”
Just as well you were “Lucky enough to get hold of “TeamMcCann” then eh Richy Baby?> Maybe not.

Hey Star - when I read about the “death from my job” statment by Kate - thought exactly the same thing - she is (or was) a 2 day a week locum in a GP surgery from what I have read, not based in the intensive care unit of a hospital. I also read (maybe it was media hype) that she said that she had been in contact with 6 bodies just before she left - God almightly I would steer clear of that doctors surgery !! Something else I cant understand - reports yesterday said that the McCanns had been to their local church in their home town for the first time yesterday, since their return -A WEEK AGO - They were hoverring around the church in Portugal morning noon and night according to the press, they even were given their own key to the church to go whenever they wanted to . Why on this earth did it take them so long to go to their own church to proay for their daughter - Woops sorry too busy begging to Branson and lining up their defence!! Silly me!!

Yes the part about Kate not finding Maddie in the room on her check…I can see running back to the table AFTER i GRABBED THE TWINS…and saying Gerry i cant find Maddie. Then returning to the room and looking all over or doing a quick look and then going for Gerry. THEN when she was not found calling for the police. NOT waiting. I still want to know how she knew “they” took her (whoever they is) by the condition of the room. Also we dont know where Maddie was sleeping then, according to the Mccanns she was inbetween her brother and sister. Then Gerry said she was not there? There is so much wrong with this story, it is not the police making us believe the Mccanns are guilty, it is the MCCANNS, by their actions…..
September 17th, 2007 at 3:16 pm
Yes, this cuddle cat thing does not make sense. The couple was so sure that M. was kidnapped. Kate said it was so clear to hear that she (Mad.) was kidnapped. But why destroying all evidence and not helping the police? The cat was washed????
The behaviour of the first hours after they detected that M was missing was so strange not at all like anybody else would have reacted. They are intelligent people.
Why calling the police so late? Why calling friends in England? How could that help?
It was all strange from the beginning.
I think in the US you get charged only for leaving your kids unattended.
I have 2 kids and although both are a bit older I am never leaving them alone in a room in a holiday resort. Just imagining that one wakes up (which very often happens actually) and wanders off…. It is a foreign country after all. And I am not an overprotective mom.
And how on earth can they make them sleep so fast and be sure they sleep deeply? And then sleep deeply for the next hours? We need way longer for the bed procedure with the kids. And then you also need to wait a little longer to make sure that they are sleeping deeply. This fast suggests that they gave them some sort of sleeping pills or whatever.
And why “THE HAVE TAKEN HER!” Why “they”? Who is “they” ? Why would you leave the door open to invite even thiefs (there has been incidents in the weeks before which they must have known also). Somebody of the stuff of the resort even said that they would warn the guests that the doors and windows should be locked to not give burglars or thiefs any chances.
Strange. Even if the McCanns are not guilty the behave not like you would think a couple would behave after their child goes missing.
September 17th, 2007 at 2:48 pm
that is what i mean. How about all the other nights they left the kids? The lady upstairs heard a child crying? For a long time? So apparently mom or dad didnt check them during that time?
And the friends with their code of silence? Is this so one does not say somthing “wrong” ?
The Mccanns do admit taking turns checking, then they say their friends were checking, and the bit about dad checking and NOT seeing Maddie? I just wonder if Maddie was there when they LEFT for dinner? How did he know she was ok?
Just seems odd. I read one statement by Kate that the door was WIDE open when she went to check, and she knew something was up due to the condition of the room? Did they ever say what was wrong with the room? And the cuddle cat….If someone did take Maddie out of the room and she was holding the cat when she went to bed, i dont see an abductor taking the time to place the cat up out of reach. Either it would of went with her, or it might of dropped to the floor and been forgotten. BUT why would someone put it up out of the way? Makes no sense, because then they would of had to touch it.
September 17th, 2007 at 1:58 pm
The McCann’s own story about checking on their children has a giant hole in it. g.mccann said he went for his turn to check, saw the twins asleep, saw Maddie was not in her bed, not sure where she was but assumed somewhere, left for the bar.
That was not a check up of the children.

An interesting bit of info

September 17th, 2007 at 1:26 pm
A judge reviewing the evidence against Kate and Gerry McCann is reported to have refused to order the couple to return to Portugal for further police interviews about the suspected death of their daughter, Madeleine.
Judge Pedro Daniel dos Anjos Frias is said to have asked for the couple, from Rothley, Leicestershire, to be questioned instead by British police about the night their daughter disappeared from her Algarve holiday home.
Leicestershire police will be sent a list of all the questions that the Portuguese authorities want the McCanns to be asked, together with details of the related evidence, according to the Correio da Manhã newspaper.
It is has been claimed that the couple, both 39, will not be questioned again until the Polícia Judiciária has received the results of tests on all the samples collected from the family’s holiday apartment, hire car and other places.
Interviews could also be carried out with the seven British friends who were staying with the McCanns when Madeleine disappeared from the Ocean Club resort in Praia da Luz, 137 days ago. Officers have complained of a “pact of silence” within the group that has made it difficult to create a timeline of events on May 3.
**It will be days or weeks before the questioning.
Pact of silence? Seems like the Mccanns and friends think they are running the show?
Mrs McCann could not explain it, but the scent of bodies remains detectable to the springer spaniel “cadaver dogs” for years and her legal team concluded that the scent could have come from her contact with corpses during her work as a doctor.
**like i said before….how many dead people did Kate deal with at work? Did she carry Cuddle Cat around with the dead bodies? And how did the smell of dead bodies she dealt with at work GET IN THE RENTED CAR?!?!?!?
September 17th, 2007 at 1:13 pm
The Mccanns are gonna get their own dogs to smell the car now? And they are looking at a lawyer here in the US to help them get the dog evidence tossed out?
They sure dont act innocent!!
September 17th, 2007 at 1:10 pm
Yes, I to want to know how these people will feel if the Mccanns end up guilty. How can anyone say they didnt do it. They dont know. There are friends of Kate now coming forward saying she was a good mom. Well, no one knows what goes on behind closed doors. If her diary is true and she complains of Gerry not helping with the children, and Maddie being hyperactive, who knows.
There are too many things that dont add up, the MAIN thing being that these parents had NO problem leaving three very small children alone in a strange country, in an unlocked, ground floor apartment over and over again, to the small time frame that someone could of got in the apartment and grabbed Maddie and got out again with NO ONE seeing them? How come the Mccanns know the exact time the children were checked. Who looks at their watch when they check their kids? Why did they not use the babysitting service? Why did they drop off the kids in the am, pick them up at lunch, and then leave them for dinner? Does not sound like a FAMILY vacation to me. Is this how the Mccanns and their friends handled all their vacations. People keep saying that the kids were the most important thing to Gerry and Kate. From their actions, it looks like the kids were in the way of their good time.
This church bit is also strange. Did the Mccanns attend mass as a family every Sunday? Why have to have a key and go to the church when it was not open to the public. According to Gerry’s blog, they would attend church separately and while out running, they would pop in for 10 minutes. Your daughter is missing, you have time to go swimming, running, lunches and dinners with friends, and you only have 10 minutes to pray for your daughter? You should of been in that church down on your knees asking God to watch over Maddie and bring her back safely.
The bit about the “body fluids” i’m no doctor, but if the death smell is on Kate’s clothes, on cuddle cat, and in the trunk of their rented car, then Kate and Gerry have questions to answer. Maddie’s body fluids should not be in the trunk of the car. I dont know what to think any more, but IMO the Mccanns know more than they are saying. And i dont know about anyone else here, but they sure dont act like their 4 yr old daughter has been taken and may be dead. Let’s spend more money and find Maddie. Wonder what the Mccanns have been up to lately. Gerry is sorry he has not updated us on their daily activities.

I think all this campaigning is doing more harm to the “children missing” subject than any good. It is also very unfair to the rest of the children gone missing.
Another campaign now for “remembering the lovely Madeleine” as it is a competition. Remember her rather than any other child? We didn´t know her and why does all the money and focus go to only one case????? Why does the whole world need to remember a child, should this be left to the people who knew her?
The parents seem to be not bothered at all about other cases. No money gone to help other kids?
And how does it work: creating publicity and getting the best people for defending? Why so many and why the best from all over the world if they are so so extremely innocent????
Now it was probably the last time when the pope does a reception in such a case, very sad.
The world is taken for a ride, but on the other hand people obviously enjoying it.
September 17th, 2007 at 12:51 pm
Critical comments cannot get through here, very interesting.

Branson is a MUG!
I lost any respect for him a long time ago.
His trains are rubbish, his planes are rubbish, and his media company are worse than the trains and the planes!
I would not use his frims if they were the last on earth, I would rather swim to america than use Virgin!
September 17th, 2007 at 11:59 am
First of all I am appauled by the Branson jesture - regardless of the guilty or not guilty of being party to the death of their daughter - they sure as hell are guilty of neglect. If they are so sure of their innocence they should not need to plead to celebs. to get them out of the hole = the hole incidentally that they have dug for themselves from day one. Richard Branson has gone down dramatically in my estimation - the pledge £100,000 would have gone to better use had he donated it to providing a cheche in an inner city location, where the mums would love a break for a few hours but cant afford child care. Hey but now, they can leave their kids unattended and should the worst happed - go cap in hand to Richard - he’ll bail me out. Like hell he would - Branson would not have got the publicity from that one would he? By contributing to legal beavers to fight the case of these two irresponsible people is no more and no less that condoning their actions to leave the children alone. I travel regularly to the US, but in future, my last choice will be Virgin Airlines - I used to think they were decent - but not any more.
September 17th, 2007 at 6:58 am
Hi Irritated.
I agree with you. I’ve been following some of the child organizations out there and they do a great job. IMO - I would like to see a world database - similar to the Amber alert system in the states.
If people can react quickly it would help enormously the investigating officers to react swiftly imo.
I know this isn’t a perfect world - but with technology advancing weekly - we should have the means to put this into place if all governments can agree on it.
The McCann campaign has us all imo examining ourselves - and our values. If just one child out there has been helped because people are more aware and more inclined to step in then they can have all the publicity they want.
If a global database comes out from the ashes of this case - then if Madeleine is dead - maybe her name did some good to help someone else.
Until we accept nothing less than ZERO tolerance from people who abuse children, sadly it will not go away. Write to the leaders in your country. Let them know that you want the protection of children made mandatory and abusers either jailed for life or executed. I prefer the latter and I make no apologies.

Hi Andrew,
I did have a pleasant day thank you. 32C here - hot and hazy. Have the aircons going full blast and the dehumidifiers.
I agree to agree that the law is our common denominator. I have no problem in you thinking that Gerry McCann is a liar. That is your opinion. As to you being a cop;-) nice try ems.
You being an ex professional criminal and all.. what is your take on Murat’s alibi?
Play nice and I will, too.
September 17th, 2007 at 5:53 am
I find it very irritating to see the whole development. Just as the hype is declining onather campaign??
What about all the other children who went missing? Any support? I would have hoped some of the money goes to the other cases. But NO, if you would have thought the whole development is a good advertisement for all missing children, NO it isn´t. In fact, the other children (the swiss one for example just got burried) will not have any more support or gain of the whole McCann story.
And in future somebody will raise his hand for his missing child everybody goes “not again”.
Also what about people seeing how you gain celebrity status by a missing child, how many people will sacrifice their children? And now a “charm campaign” of the McCanns. The whole big brother Mccann thing thing is sad and sick.
Sorry for my bad english; I am not a native speaker.
September 17th, 2007 at 5:26 am
powder monkey.
I read your posts.
This is where you lost any attention I may have had to them.
”
1681. David Icke points some of out the various possibe series of events quite correctly.
Maybe Madeleine is alive and well and living with Elvis in a flat above a chip shop ”
I am 47 years old, married with a 12 year old daughter and am employed as a Scenes of Crime Officer. I have over 15 years experience of police work. It is that basis I use to offer my views on this disturbing case. As for getting out more, well, I have a number of non work related activities that I enjoy : photography, cinema, general socialising and, more recently, my daughter & I go Brazilian samba drumming. Great for getting rid of the day’s tensions!”
I find it so amusing that names on this board offer validation - “I am - therefore, I am”
None of my business what you think of me.
SOME of the contents of your posts before YOU decided to ’snipe’ were valid.
Was I angry? Yes, I was.
It’s okay for many to post and be branded ‘in the mccann camp’ and all the vitriol which follows is fair game - no?
I’m not in their camp - imo they didn’t do it. Until I hear to the contrary I shall stick with that.
You still agree with Andrew’s posts?
September 17th, 2007 at 4:00 am
Hi eatmyshorts. I Hope you had a pleasant day.
I have never stated my profession? I don’t recall that at all.
I am in no way related to John ‘o socially or professionally.
I don’t work for the Police, But very close though!!
They wouldn’t have me, it simply wouldn’t be Lawful!
I’ve got firearms convictions. Oh, and drugs. Don’t forget those!
Speaking as an “Ex professional Criminal”, I think McCanns a liar.
The Law is therefore our common denominator. We respect it.
Kind of put everyone it it’s place that one eh. Including me!

September 17th, 2007 at 3:18 am
Gone too far? I’m just glad that coppers like the one above are not on any investigation here.
September 17th, 2007 at 3:13 am
There are many child protection agencies out there. It would be prudent imo to link all of them to one database.
-Andrew works for the police and Powder Monkey also works for the police-
Have I read your posts Andrew? - On this board, every one of them.
pot - kettle -black.
It is none of my business what you think of me. I couldn’t care less.
You swipe at me…. I swipe back.
I find it highly amusing that both yourself and John O feel the need to state exactly who they are and what they do…having two children exactly the same age must be a bond to thought patterns.(allegedly)
.. have the uncanny knack of posting within a couple of posts of each other to back each others views.
John O - hope you had a nice day in the Lakes with your family. Truly a beautiful place - spent many a happy weekend there when I lived in the UK.
Have everyone involved been offered lie detectors yet?
Would clear up a few loose ends.
Congratulations to Richard Branson for putting up the cash to help this desperate couple.
The post above is the ‘policemans’ view. (allegedly)

Sorry to keep waffling on everyone. I’m beginning to feel like Gerry…..
AND HERE HE IS!!
His latest Blog entry. Quote:
Day 136 - 16/09/2007
“Sorry for not updating the blog for such a long time but obviously we have been incredibly busy during this last tumultuous week. The entries will probably be every few days or if there is a major development in the future.
Thank you for all the cards, letters, flowers, gifts and messages of support. It means so much to us to know that so many people have not been deceived by rumour, innuendo and wild speculation. Most importantly the search for Madeleine carries on and our family have not given up hope of finding her.
Live (surely he means living, or life, or does he mean simply NOT DEAD) in Rothley is still a long way off normal with the large media presence
(live by the sword and all that) but it is beginning to settle down somewhat. We all managed to go to mass today and it was comforting to pray for Madeleine with friends and family in our local church” (we don’t have a key for this one)
———————-
“Hi mate” I’m glad most people haven’t been deceived by rumour, innuendo and wild speculation too Gerry, or I would be out of a job regarding what appears to be me recently becoming your biggest “fan” / internet commentator!
(read that from any perspective you like, there’s only two!)
Great to hear you’re tumultuously preying and such… most tempestuous Sir.
No jogging? what about a haircut? Don’t worry about that. I believe you get regular ones for free where you’re going from what I gather?
I’m not so sure the wine floweth so much in there though.
You might get to be a pill dealer on “C wing” if you play your cards right though? who knows eh Mr.Pharmacist?
Then again, people that go down for child neglect et al arent usually spoken to by any normal folk so sales could be a problem. Then again, the fund! Think of how many phone cards, bags of sugar and tobacco you can buy. Who needs to take over “C wing” selling Pills when you’ve got all that money already. keep the pills and get high yourself, pass the time!
Allegedly
(Even I feel a bit cruel now. have I gone too far? sorry)
September 16th, 2007 at 11:35 pm
Nice idea Anna.
If prevent-a-snatch.com used the McCann’s story, There is one slight problem with the delivery.
Unless we could conveniently travel backwards through time, which aparrently the McCanns can (they have no concept of time whatsoever)
It couldn’t in reality be used in Madeleine’s case unless “the act” had not have originally taken place, which it HAS. And in which case, retrospectively applied looks even more dodgy than what’s actually happened here already.
That means that “they” “Abduct” their child, set up the massive “fund” before Madeleine is transported back in time, and thus saved the child by their biggest oxymonon to date. Does that mean they still have the option of teleporting to the future and not have Madeleine still? What happens to the money in this shifting of matter/anti-matter/quark/ what the hell am I going on about, though the single construct called the space-time continuum?
That would fit in with the UFO and the Disappearance theory perfectly.
Are you sure you aren’t Gerry perchance? Only kidding!! Not even the logical Vulcan Mr.Spock could work this one out. My head hurts, but by God, I think you’ve cracked it!
Imagine if the McCanns joined forces with The Joker? Their Criminal capability would give Batman a real “run for his money”… has it already happened though?
Scare kids and Scare parents is always the answer.
Rule by fear. Right on!!
September 16th, 2007 at 10:29 pm
SUGGESTION. They say good can come from evil. So in that spirit, how about someone starting a campaign to help save children from getting snatched, call it the
prevent-a-snatching/your city.com web-site. With the McCann story, vividly told, just the sad facts that they forgot to care for their children and swoosh… look what happened to them.
What do you think? Would it have saved Maddie? Could it save others? Any other ideas?
September 16th, 2007 at 10:22 pm
#1716 Star…
To be honest, at the time I didn’t know what to think about the momentary cracked smile. It’s erie. Should be professionally examined. The stranger thing is the look downwards, toward the ground, which is a firm indication that she thought the child was not out there in a state of abduction, but down there, in the ground or sea. It was the first interview I have seen, hard to forget.
September 16th, 2007 at 10:20 pm
I also recall watching a live broadcast from BBC News 24 late at night, when Gerry was still being questioned and the broadcaster mentioned something about a broken neck!, has anyone heard about this theory ?
September 16th, 2007 at 10:18 pm
I think people should be sceptical about what has appeared in the the British Paper considering that it has be dcoumented that the McCanns have employed a PR company to begin a charm offensive; and yet have only dedicated a paltry £80,000 to “kick start” the find madeleine appeal across Europe, which will begin in 2 weeks time !. by which time the Judge will have indicated whether the McCanns’ have a case to answer!, and thousands of gulliable people (if we are to believe the media) would have gladly donated their cash to the legal fund which has now been endoresed by Sir Richard Branson. I am amazed that such a well known figure has actually bought into this nonsense “conspiracy theory “.
September 16th, 2007 at 9:13 pm
Anna…I’m glad you think she Laughed. I had posted this a few days ago and was told…she did NOT laugh. To me, she laughed, looked away or down and then said something like she knows we love her.
PLEASE….you daughter is missing!! I know you are probably in shock (I know i would be) But you cant even look into the camera and tell her you love her and you are looking for her?
I was looking for it again yesterday and couldnt find it…I will look again and let you know if i find it.
