Madeleine McCann: Watching The Parents
MORE no news on the Madeleine McCann case.
It is now a week since the three-year-old girl was snatched from a Portugal holiday resort.
The story has been distressing to watch on our TV screens. What it must like for the parents of Madeleine only a few can know.
BLAME
But their misery is far from complete. With no news of Madeleine, and the Portuguese police having no need to indulge the British tabloids with speculation and theory, Madeleine’s parents are the central characters.
And today’s front-page news, as reported by the caring Mirror, is: “THEY KNOW LEAVING KIDS WAS WRONG.”
Does the Mirror mean to say that Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry, now think they did the wrong thing in nipping out for a bite to eat and leaving the children in the apartment on what they thought was a secure resort?
Does the Mirror mean that the McCanns know that popping back regularly to look at their children and checking on their well being was less than perfect?
Does the Mirror mean that the McCanns realise they should not have left their children alone, just like it is wrong to leave a child in a hotel under the auspices of a baby monitoring service, to leave a child in the car while mum goes to pay for petrol, to talk to a neighbour over a garden fence while the children are indoors?
Of course this is not the Mirror’s view. Oh, no. This is Madeleine’s grandmother, Susan Healy, saying: “They know this was a mistake. But it wasn’t child neglect, it wasn’t not caring for your children.”
That she feels the need to say this is wrong. That the Mirror can lead with Madeleine’s grief-worn parents is pathetic and misguided. That the paper can talk of “people are asking why they didn’t make use of the crèche” at the resort or take the children out to dinner with them is wrong.
But the Mirror has news to write. And the police aren’t playing the game.
THEORIES
So the Mirror produces: “THE 6 THEORIES.”
Only six! Why this cautious approach? But it is all the Mirror has. And readers hear of the “PAEDOPHILE GANG”, the “LONE PAEDOPHILE”, the “JEALOUS MOTHER”, Madeleine wandering off and “DROWNED”, the “OPPORTUNIST PAEDOPHILE”, the “CHILDLESS COUPLE”.
But the Sun has more. It has 130 more. As the front-page headline screams: “MADDIE COPS HUNT 130 BRIT PAEDOS.”
The paper says “at least” 130 British paedophiles “might” have taken Madeleine McCann.
In “ALGARVE IS ‘HAVEN’ FOR PERVS”, readers learn that Portugal is a “magnet for sun-seeking perverts from Britain and the rest of Europe”.
Who knew that perverts get off on watching children at the beach?
Us And Them
But help is on its way. The Sun lists the British coppers who will go out there and see to it that justice is done. We, says the paper, are the only country with a sex offenders’ register.
All convicted perverts must inform the police of their desire to go abroad. At least 130 have. And the police are looking for them.
But – and whisper this – might it be that convicted sexual deviants don’t all tell the police what they plan to do? They are not monitored while overseas. And might it be that not all sexual predators are caught and make it to the list?
Among the policemans’ names is Detective Superintendent Graham Hill, attached to theChild Exploitation and Protection Centre. Hill is on the case. He has flown to Portugal.
Hill worked on the case of Milly Dowler. She was snatched from near Walton railway station, Surrey, in 2002. Her body was found six months later. Her killer or killers have never been caught.
Perhaps Hill’s experiences can help. Perhaps he’ll have more luck. Perhaps not.
Meanwhile, a family is distraught, and bearing up incredibly well under the strain and the merciless gaze of the newspapers…

Thanks for the links Xhris.
The first one, whilst not adding anything that hasn’t been discussed on this forum, serves as a good reminder of the distances involved and the impossibility of directly seeing the apartment entrances from the tapas bar.
The second does raise some interesting questions. I wasn’t aware that Brian Kennedy was related to Kate McCann. I have wondered why they have got a lawyer whose expertise lies in fighting extradition applications. I am under the impression that an agreement in 2004 between the U.K. and Portugal makes any extradition request a mere formality, as all Portugal would need to do is issue a European arrest warrant and the McCanns would have no option but to comply.
The picture issued by Portuguese police based on Jane Tanner’s description is a total joke - I did hear something, at the time, along the lines that Portuguese law prevented the police from giving a fuller descripition of the man that Tanner claims to have seen. Surely that cannot be true? I wonder if there are details she gave that haven’t been included in the picture, or has she been deliberately vague to try moving attention away from the McCanns onto to some made up person?
I haven’t heard that there were other children in the apartment besides the McCanns kids, although it might explain why Oldfield went to make a check - do he and Tanner have kids?

Sorry for posting through links but sometimes I find very interesting and related information that is better than me posting… images and little text, but still very good for us to think.

UNBELIEVABLE…..I agree the Mccanns are guilty of neglect, if not more. They were not there when Madeleine needed them. That is a parents job, to protect their children, not to leave them night after night for their own entertainment. The part that really gives me chills is the neighbor upstairs heard a child cry in the night because her parents were not there. I can imagine her waking up in a strange place and being scared, and where are MOM and DAD? Out having a good time?
Seems like it would take a while to check the children(IMO they did not check them as often as they say, if at all) The Tapas 9 have conflicting stories and none of them seem to be able to get their story straight. Others have come forward with more stories of that night.
I also like the face that Kate makes at the beginning of the video when asked about leaving the children…and Gerry goes on about how it was like eating in the garden? How many of us have a garden that far from our house. Plus the child would know where mom and dad were and if there was a problem they could go out to them, being familar with their own home and yard.
The other thing is they did this night after night, so IMO they had no regard for their children, they were more interested in their own good time.
And it is because of this that Madeleine is missing.

Hi, how are you all ? Hope OK
I read in a portuguese newspaper that there is another (new) strange evidence about that fatidic night, the police have now reported that Madeleine was not alone with her sibblings, but the SEVEN children of the group were staying together in that same room that night while their parents went to Tapas. Anyone heard or read about this ?

You cant have the police having a break ?! Individual officers perhaps but the police surely are a large organisation and should be able to provide back up and replacement officers??? Its like saying there are no doctors on duty in intensive care for a while as the current ones need to sleep… hello??
October 8th, 2007 at 11:03 pm
Actually how much is there for them to investigate right now? There are no new leads, the evidence came back inconclusive(i still dont go for the dirty diapers in the wheel well, that would of stunk up everything in the trunk)and now the Mccanns removed the seat to move? I would hate to be the police in this case, i wouldnt know what direction to go in now. I read the Mccanns could be cleared soon. They may never find out what happen to Madeleine that day and what is really sad is Madeleine may never be found. One can only hope she is still alive and well and being looked after. Anything else is just to horrible to think about.
October 8th, 2007 at 10:20 pm
I can understand that after 5 months the police need a break, but i really think that if this is to happen then another force should be allowed to take over or allow the private security team that the McCanns have hired to have a go at looking.
If they cant carry on at full speed then allow others to try at least, although noone really expects them to go on for ever, noone can.

Shot by a Policeman. in Crandon, Wisconsin…
Jordann Murray, 18, the suspect’s former long-time girlfriend; Katrina McCorkle, 18; Leanna Thomas, 18; Lindsey Stahl, 14; Bradley Schultz, 20, and Aaron Smith.Nineteen-year-old Charlie Nietzel was critically wounded.
Funny how I mentioned P.C. Keith Bluestone the other day as an example of how (supposedly professional respectable) people can just “go crazy” and kill their own families and other members of the community.
The sooner this McCann business is wrapped up the better for everyone.
Speaking of Police torture, faced with a smarmy character like McCann I would be fairly tempted to punch his lights out myself even though I’m not even violent. Guilty or not, it might knock some sense into him. Oh yeah, and her. Equal rights remember.
That’s no way to behave in a civilised society… Civilised? where do YOU live? This is plenet Earth.

The number of Portuguese police officers investigating Madeleine’s disapperance is now down to 6, apparently. Half of these are reportedly wanting to take annual leave which will leave only 3 working on the case. Hard to believe, but it was reported in The Times which is a serious newspaper and very trustworthy.

Britney who??
October 8th, 2007 at 9:16 pm
powder monkey…..We heard about Madeleine on May 4th when she went missing. Then we really didnt hear much, to follow the case one would have to do a search on the net. The next time we heard anything on the local tv news was when Kate and Gerry were being looked at by the police. I believe it was last week there was to be a 2 part news story on the Today Show. Other than that….nothing
yes, right now the news is about the 20yr old sheriff’s deputy who killed six young people and then was killed.
and Britney Spears seems to show up alot.

A Person, unfortunately I think you may be right in that Madeleine’s disappearance may never be solved.
Mainly I think that is due to a poor investigation by the Portuguese police.
News reports today are that the DNA results are inconclusive. I’m not surprised given the time delay in recovering them. If they are guilty, the McCanns may get away with it due to lack of evidence. Obviously, they may well be innocent. Curiously, if Gerry McCann ever stood trial in Glasgow, where he was born, Scottish law has a third verdict available of ‘not proven’, where the jury can’t find that the evidence convicts him but still thinks he’s guilty. I think that’s how many people will view the McCanns if this case does go unsolved.
Other news is that Tavares Almeida is to stand trial for his part in beating a robbery suspect, who later turned out to be innocent. I wonder if the Portuguese police will leak lurid stories about him?
I have doubts about the impartiality of Amaral’s replacement, Luis Neves. If he suspects the parents, and after all it was he who called them in for questioning and had a say in them being named as suspects, can he be relied on to follow the evidence, wherever it takes him, or is his mind set on convicting the McCanns?
In the U.K., if a serious investigation such as this was stalled, a case review would be held, with different senior investigators, from other forces, looking over the evidence from scratch. Surely it’s time for this to be done in Portugal? Maybe a team from Interpol, excluding any English or Portuguese to prevent claims of cover up.
Between them, the senior officers in this investigation have managed to portray the Portuguese police as bumbling thugs, prone to beating confessions out of people. The damage to the Portuguese tourist industry may not yet be known. I’d hesitate to go there.
Star, what’s the coverage of this story like in the national newspapers & TV in the States. Does it make the headlines or does domestic news take preference? I imagine the big headlines at the moment are the terrible events in Wisconsin.
October 8th, 2007 at 6:36 pm
Thats fair enough Star, but she has most prob admitted to it and the evidence proves it, the difrence with that case and the McCann case is that noone is going to admit to anything (if they are guilty ) and thier is no evidence that will stand up in court to prove they done it.
So until they get some then the McCanns are deamed innocent. If they can prove that Madeliene is dead and that the parents done it then thats a diffrent matter but it dosnt seem to be the way things are going.
To be honest if the McCanns are guilty i dont think that anyone will ever be able to prove it because the whole case is a shambles and that poor child is going to be left hanging in limbo, everyone will still be saying in 10 yrs time i wonder what happened to Madeliene McCann the poor little Angel .
If she is alive i hope she is happy if she is dead i hope she didnt suffer that is all i can say right now.

This just makes me sick:
local news here.. A memorial service for the two girls drowned by their mother in a bathtub was held Saturday. Family members, friends and strangers streamed into a funeral home to pay their respects.
.Hill’s aunt now says Hill had been getting the girls ready to be dressed in case she had to be taken to a hospital. Judge Lauren Moore sets Hill’s bond at $2 million — $1 million for each child. The judge suggests that Hill receive medical and psychological treatment after she is transferred to the county jail.
The children were 4 yrs and 2 yrs old.
So anyone that says it is unheard of for a parent to harm a child is wrong. It happens WAY too much….This girl talked to her mother about going to the hospital BEFORE she drown her 2 children….She will probably go for the temp. insane thing and get off.

cilla black did it?
“My machine has a 90 per cent success rate, so I am convinced this is the place where Madeleine is buried.”
Easy! Trouble is that final 10% could be most of Europe (or North Africa!)

Sacked: Goncalo Amaral ‘failed’ to dig at spot on beach Krugel says he pin-pointed
But under Portuguese law Krugel is forbidden from revealing the exact spot as he has mentioned it in a police statement.
But sources close to the investigation told the Sunday Mirror that it is a spot on the beach in Praia da Luz near where Gerry regularly went running.
Krugel said: “The technology I use picks up a trace using DNA and complex and secret science techniques. Every day the trace was strongest in this one area.
“The machine was highlighting the same co-ordinate and it kept drawing me back there. It left me convinced that Madeleine was there.
“My machine has a 90 per cent success rate, so I am convinced this is the place where Madeleine is buried.”
**odd that Madeleine may be buried on the beach where Gerry went jogging, maybe the same place that Kate sat and looked out at the sea?
I wonder why they did not dig where he said? odd i tell u, this whole thing is very odd and i have a feeling, IF we ever learn what happen to Madeleine that night, we will all be very surprised…
October 7th, 2007 at 10:41 pm
Danie Krugel says this “machine” can find Madeleine? Well i believe the article says he was in Portugal in July? It is now Oct 7th. Where is she?
The article also stated that he went there following a request for assistance from the Mccanns?
Have Kate or Gerry gone back to work? I wonder who is payin their bills? They said they used their savings early on and i’m sure they have house payments and utilities and the gym and food?
I still wonder why Gerry has not jetted off to Morocco.
October 7th, 2007 at 8:45 pm
Well still looks like nothing useful in the news towards finding Madeliene what a shame.. Wonder if that Machine could find my car keys dosnt sound like it can follow DNA either.
October 7th, 2007 at 7:35 pm
Star, I’ve googled Danie Krugel and followed a few links. He’s very coy about how his machine works but seems to have some success (plus one failure, at least). If he puts a DNA sample in his machine I’m curious as to how he knows what direction to travel in. He may just be copying the route followed by the sniffer dogs some time ago, which followed a trail of cadaverine which ended near the church, which is itself near the beach. Krugel himself says the trail he followed “went cold” at the beach. He must have found further DNA traces at different locations because, as you say, Madeleine didn’t have a GPS chip on her.
If this machine really works as he claims, then we can soon expect to see Osama Bin Laden in custody, Lord Lucan at the Old Bailey and zoos full of yetis and bigfoots. Krugel will be richer than Bill Gates.
Evening, Andrew. I had a bar of chocolate on my computer desk. Wasn’t you that scoffed it was it?? Come on, hand it over!
October 7th, 2007 at 6:24 pm
They will concoct any old nonsense to make it sound that
A: Madeleine’s alive
B: a Naughty Paedo’ Kidnapper did it
C: I wasn’t me guvvnor (I wasn’t there “At that moment”)
Even though it really does look like the Police have got evidence
A: DNA and other bodily fluids from a DEAD person with similar genes to Madeleine (The twins aren’t dead are they?)
B: Computer E-Mail records, phone taps etc
C: Inconsistent statements GALORE
D: Fantasy nonsense like “The abductor was there, I know that now”
D: Fill in the blanks yourselves, it’s easy and most of all FUN
October 7th, 2007 at 6:17 pm
a small bit more….then i really must get on with my life….
Forensic analysis by retired policeman Danie Krugel claimed to reveal Madeleine’s body had either been temporarily buried or was still beneath the beach at Praia da Luz.
Based on a combination of the child’s DNA sample and GPS satellite technology, Krugel’s findings were taken so seriously by Portuguese detectives that officers searched the beach on two occasions.
Krugel, of the University of Bloemfontein, claims that his technique is able to locate a missing person anywhere in the world using a single strand of hair.
He became famous in South Africa after assisted a TV crew locate the whereabouts of five South African girls who went missing during the Eighties.
Last July he spent four days in Praia da Luz following a request for assistance from Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry McCann.
‘He clearly identified an area of the beach where Madeleine may have passed through or was buried,’ a close friend of the McCanns said yesterday.
**Buried on the beach could actually be something to consider. I’m sure the police have thought of this when there was mention of poor Madeleine being dumped at sea. According to this article they did look there early on. But how well did they look?
GPS? I was not aware that Madeleine had a chip that could be located with GPS. Maybe some equipment that could search for a body under the sand?
What DNA did this man find? on the beach?
He did not go on to explain HOW he could locate someone from one hair and anywhere in the world? I sure hope that helps.
What i find odd is he found an area of the beach that Madeleine may have passed through? well did the Mccanns hang out at this beach? And this was said once again by who? Friends of the Mccanns.
It seems this man was there in July, it is now early Oct and i dont see us being any closer to finding Madeleine.
October 7th, 2007 at 6:04 pm
powder monkey…..just goggle Madeleine buried on beach and there is ALOT of different links…..
According to some there was evidence that Madeleine made it to the beach the night she went missing(have not found what this evidence is yet) and the Mccanns think this means she was taken alive and maybe by boat(maybe that boat that was docked and then left shortly after she vanished?) Kate tells us numerous times she believes that she was taken to Spain? Some seem to think she was either buried there for a short time, OR is still there…I dont know what to think any more..
October 7th, 2007 at 5:58 pm
andrew and powder monkey…maybe we need to post at a certain time so we dont post together…lol
powder monkey…i’ll look up that article again…i found it interesting since i had not heard the bit about Madeleine being buried at the beach…
October 7th, 2007 at 5:50 pm
ooh powder monkey we’re posting 2 mins apart. Be careful mate your elbows are touching mine according to some people (’afternoon pal)
And you Star. Wotcha
October 7th, 2007 at 5:39 pm
Star, I must have missed something. What was the forensic evidence that makes Danie Krugel think Madeleine might be buried on the beach?
October 7th, 2007 at 5:37 pm
All these sightings are probably mostly from genine wellwishers. A few will be from sickos enjoying having some kind of fun and gaining recognition. Some will probably be from ther McCann’s causing a smokescreen.
The Police probably have fairly strong evidence to prove Madeleine is dead. They are in the process of calculating how to catch them out effectively, and aren’t interested in looking for naughty paedos or abductors anymore. From what I see it’s clear that the McCann’s are hellbent on causing distractions, and know no bounds when devience is involved.
The McCann’s can continue their farce as long as they like, all that happens is come judgement day, if found guilty the sentence is longer.
October 7th, 2007 at 5:27 pm
“Luis Neves, 41, was seen by the McCanns as a “breath of fresh air” when he joined the inquiry team three weeks after Madeleine’s disappearance. But he later became convinced she had died in an accident in the McCanns’ apartment. ”
That’s believable
“I believe the police have not released all info in reference to them making the claim that Madeleine died in the apartment. Would they actually go as far as making all of that up? And what happen to all the other evidence we were waiting on?”
Quite right. When faced with people like the McCann’s The Police like to show you their evidence when it’s solid, and you’re under arrest in a Police Station. In the UK you have not right to silence without it harming your defence, they can be arrested under the offences agains the person act 1861 therefore English Common Law applies.
October 7th, 2007 at 4:38 pm
in reference to this taxi sighting….
The taxi driver would know WHERE this woman and child were dropped off, one could easily check records.
The woman was in the village of Fnidk on the north coast of Morocco when she saw a 50-year-old woman with the girl getting into a taxi. She tried to join them – sharing cabs is common in Morocco – but the woman refused to let her. She later discovered the taxi had taken them to the village of Housima. She described the girl as wearing an orange blouse with a dummy in her mouth
Not sure about the orange blouse with a dummy in her mouth?
October 7th, 2007 at 4:29 pm
I wonder if Kate and Gerry still think he is a breath of fresh air….
A senior detective who called in the parents of Madeleine McCann for questioning and played a key role in the decision to make them suspects is one of the favourites to take charge of the investigation.
Luis Neves, 41, was seen by the McCanns as a “breath of fresh air” when he joined the inquiry team three weeks after Madeleine’s disappearance. But he later became convinced she had died in an accident in the McCanns’ apartment.
He is now a frontrunner to replace Goncalo Amaral, the former head of the investigation who was sacked last week after he accused British police of working only on leads given to them by the McCanns.
IMO i believe the police have not released all info in reference to them making the claim that Madeleine died in the apartment. Would they actually go as far as making all of that up? And what happen to all the other evidence we were waiting on?
One one hand we have another sighting in Morocco(this time a woman tries to share a cab with a woman and a girl that has the mark of Madeleine )and on the other we have Forensic analysis by retired South African police superintendent Danie Krugel claimed to reveal Madeleine’s body had either been temporarily buried or was still beneath the beach at Praia da Luz, the resort from where she disappeared on 3 May.
**as far as the Morocco sightings, would whoever has Madeleine, actually take her out in public, risking her being found?
