Madeleine McCann: Watching The Parents
MORE no news on the Madeleine McCann case.
It is now a week since the three-year-old girl was snatched from a Portugal holiday resort.
The story has been distressing to watch on our TV screens. What it must like for the parents of Madeleine only a few can know.
BLAME
But their misery is far from complete. With no news of Madeleine, and the Portuguese police having no need to indulge the British tabloids with speculation and theory, Madeleine’s parents are the central characters.
And today’s front-page news, as reported by the caring Mirror, is: “THEY KNOW LEAVING KIDS WAS WRONG.”
Does the Mirror mean to say that Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry, now think they did the wrong thing in nipping out for a bite to eat and leaving the children in the apartment on what they thought was a secure resort?
Does the Mirror mean that the McCanns know that popping back regularly to look at their children and checking on their well being was less than perfect?
Does the Mirror mean that the McCanns realise they should not have left their children alone, just like it is wrong to leave a child in a hotel under the auspices of a baby monitoring service, to leave a child in the car while mum goes to pay for petrol, to talk to a neighbour over a garden fence while the children are indoors?
Of course this is not the Mirror’s view. Oh, no. This is Madeleine’s grandmother, Susan Healy, saying: “They know this was a mistake. But it wasn’t child neglect, it wasn’t not caring for your children.”
That she feels the need to say this is wrong. That the Mirror can lead with Madeleine’s grief-worn parents is pathetic and misguided. That the paper can talk of “people are asking why they didn’t make use of the crèche” at the resort or take the children out to dinner with them is wrong.
But the Mirror has news to write. And the police aren’t playing the game.
THEORIES
So the Mirror produces: “THE 6 THEORIES.”
Only six! Why this cautious approach? But it is all the Mirror has. And readers hear of the “PAEDOPHILE GANG”, the “LONE PAEDOPHILE”, the “JEALOUS MOTHER”, Madeleine wandering off and “DROWNED”, the “OPPORTUNIST PAEDOPHILE”, the “CHILDLESS COUPLE”.
But the Sun has more. It has 130 more. As the front-page headline screams: “MADDIE COPS HUNT 130 BRIT PAEDOS.”
The paper says “at least” 130 British paedophiles “might” have taken Madeleine McCann.
In “ALGARVE IS ‘HAVEN’ FOR PERVS”, readers learn that Portugal is a “magnet for sun-seeking perverts from Britain and the rest of Europe”.
Who knew that perverts get off on watching children at the beach?
Us And Them
But help is on its way. The Sun lists the British coppers who will go out there and see to it that justice is done. We, says the paper, are the only country with a sex offenders’ register.
All convicted perverts must inform the police of their desire to go abroad. At least 130 have. And the police are looking for them.
But – and whisper this – might it be that convicted sexual deviants don’t all tell the police what they plan to do? They are not monitored while overseas. And might it be that not all sexual predators are caught and make it to the list?
Among the policemans’ names is Detective Superintendent Graham Hill, attached to theChild Exploitation and Protection Centre. Hill is on the case. He has flown to Portugal.
Hill worked on the case of Milly Dowler. She was snatched from near Walton railway station, Surrey, in 2002. Her body was found six months later. Her killer or killers have never been caught.
Perhaps Hill’s experiences can help. Perhaps he’ll have more luck. Perhaps not.
Meanwhile, a family is distraught, and bearing up incredibly well under the strain and the merciless gaze of the newspapers…

Well all I think is that the mcann parents made a mistake and left them in their room and they probably realise this now I dont hold any hate for the mcanns. I ffound out as much information as i can about maddie and i just want to do anything i can to help them but there not alot i can do in england. I strongly believe that she is still alive i dont know why i just do but i dont think that they are going to find her i think when i the pulicity is died down that thats when something will crop up because whoever has taken her probably does not want to be in the public eyes i dont think the person will ever show there face but i do think maddie will eventually come back. The thing that i dont understand is why maddie has been in more publicity than any other child that has gone missing. I will put a message out to Gerry&Kate hold ur head up and think positive, i prayer for ur little girl every day and just hope she is ok. I would do anything to help find this little girl but I feel helpless. I wished that the parents could give me a task to do to help find her but im just 1 person and i dnt think anything i cud do would help would it?

I hear there’s a lot of police interest in this site because of complaints? Guess its slander? If so then I’m sure that Anorak will have to provide the email addresses of the multiple (personality) posters and then all the Madeleine forums can get back to being about sensible discussion! Phew……….

Thanks Frances. Well the twits who are using other people’s names should just get knotted. I am quite sure they can find some other site to fool around on if they dont have interest in what this page is all about. Hello!!!! Anyone who doesnt know, this site is for Madeleine - dont make Frances come sort you out now! Try behave. I bet some of you have forgotton what the poor child looks like. At least those of us who care can rest easy I suppose.

This site got very very strange whilst I was away some very odd people seemed to have joined in here. Is this site still about Madeleine? Or are most of you just in here because you have nothing else to do? What with shower talk, spanked bottoms and war talk, I am very confused.
Poor Madeleine is still missing, her poor mother seems to be cracking under the pressure and there is not one little teensy weensy bit of good news. How sad is that.

I love all this paedos on every street bull. It is of course well known that 99% of all child abuse occurs in the home, father, mother, uncle, brother, they are always the first to be interviewed because history tells us it is usually them. Just because somebody is a ‘family man’ doesnt mean they care for their children, it could mean they are f*****g them on a regular basis.
The McCanns should be looked upon as number 1 suspects, it wouldnt surprise me if they havent sold their kid to some extreme religious Catholic sect. Dont discount it…stranger things have happened.

Your post stopped too soon.
1. Why is it worse to do something in a foreign country than at home??
2. So the other two children should be taken off the parents as a punishment for them or for the protection of the children? How do you think those 2 year olds would understand/cope with that?
3. So if the McCann’s don’t have some punishment handed out (what? there’s worse than never seeing your child again?) there will be an epidemic of children going “missing” so their parents can go and visit the Pope, have their name all over the papers and con a load of money out of the public?
4. And what should be done as regards whoever has taken her? Can’t see a mention of that anywhere in your post - oh, I forgot, they weren’t to blame were they.

Before anyone blows a gasket - if the parents left their children alone in a foreign country, who knows what they have done in the past? What kind of parents are these people? I say place them in the home of a family member.
Who knows what some other sick individuals might do after seeing what has resulted from Madeline’s situation. If no consequences (other than extreme guilt felt by the McCanns) are given, some other sicko may stage a simlar situation to meet the Pope and have people donate large amounts of money, have their name in the news… I wouldn’t put it past someone…

I cannot believe that the McCann parents still have custody of their other children! It blows my mind to think that parents could leave three children under age 4 alone. It would still be bad if they did it in their house, but it makes it even worse when they are in another country! AND they left the door/windows unlocked? How stupid were those people? I hope she is found, and then all three children are removed from the home of the parents. Those people do not deserve to be in charge of those children after the negligence that they demonstrated that night.
On a side note, this forum has turned into a soap opera! Unfortunately, the majority of the posts have nothing to do with Madeline’s case. The page is asking for your opinion and what you think of the article. I hope Madeline is found very soon and then the poor excuse for parents have some charges brought against them.

Stoney, you are right.
The McCann’s failure to protect their children whether from the possibility of fire or other hazard, or from waking up and wandering off, or from whatever other fate that has actually befallen her, no-one is excusing them from that. But it doesn’t follow we have to crucify them for it. Or their other two children for that matter which is what would happen if they were deprived of their parents.
There’s been a lot said about the mawkish outpourings of sympathy for a child/family we don’t know personally and have never met. Might be something in that. But I can live with it. What’s really hard to understand are the quite disturbing outpourings of hate for the family that can be seen on this forum and the others, the conspiracy theories, the quite sick comments being made even about the child herself. Unbelievable.

I think they’re two different people, living in the same house - mother and daughter maybe?
I dont really understand why people want the mccanns in prison. I do believe they neglected their children, by leaving them in harms way. Abductions are extremely rare, but even if they thought something like that would not happen, children should not be left alone at that age for many other reasons. However to date, there isnt a law to state that it is illegal to leave children alone, and whilst I dont agree with what they did, I dont see why these particular people should be imprisoned for it. It does suggest that a law should be brought in though. The search for missing children should be funded by the government, even if its as a result of neglect by the parents. Madeleine is a human being in her own right, and regardless of her parents wrong doings, does deserve resources to be used to find her - as does every child that goes missing.
