Madeleine McCann: Robert Murat And More Questions
MADELEINE McCann is missing. Still missing.
But today there is news. The daily front-page shots of Madeleine’s traumatised parents are moved further within the papers to make space for the head of Robert Murat.
“MADELEINE BRITISH MAN IS QUIZZED!” says the Mirror’s front-page headline.
Robert Murat
After the speculation the paper delivers a welter of facts. Robert Murat lives with his mum. Robert Murat is in his 30s. Robert Murat lives with his mother in a villa 150 yards from the apartment where Madeleine McCann was snatched.
The Sun (“MADDIE: BRIT QUIZZED”) says Murat lives 100 yards from that McCann apartment. Like the Mirror, the Sun produces a front-page picture of “one-eyed Murat”. The Mail hears that Murat lost his eye in a BMX accident when he was a boy. The Mail says Murat lives 80 yards from Madeleine’s holiday apartment.
Murat is “stocky”. He offered to help the police hunt as a “translator”. He lives in Casa Liliana, with his mum Jenny.
The Suspect
The Sun’s Julie Moult considers the evidence. And delivers a piece entitled “stories of a fantasist”. “He always seemed so eager to get involved in the police investigation,” says the Sun’s woman–on-the-scene. “Robert claimed he had a daughter just like Madeleine and said he felt compelled to do anything he could. But to me he seemed like classic fantasist.”
The Sun introduces Martin Brunt, the crime news correspondent from its sister organ, TV’s Sky news.
He says Murat told him he’d been taken inside the McCanns’ apartment by police.
Sky news correspondent Ian Woods says he asked Murat to help him speak with locals.
“I met him and had a conversation with him. I tried to find out as much as I could about him,” says Woods, who checked out Murat’s details. “They did check out, and I left it at that for the time.”
The Mail’s Neil Sears also spots Murat. In “My encounters with a man ‘who just wanted to help’”, Sears tells Mail readers, “There was something more to the friendly expat who called himself ‘Rob’ than met the eye.”
Murat made Sears “feel slightly uncomfortable”.
But it was the Sunday Mirror’s Lori Cambell who alerted police to Murat’s behaviour, she saw as “creepy”.
Writing Wrongs
So much for investigative journalism. Questions were asked but nothing more was done. Murat is with police because he made a show of himself, because he acted as if working in an official capacity. Even though the Times says Murat was acting as “an official translator”.
So now the man in the chinos, with the glass eye, who lives with him mum and whose estranged wife, from Hockering, near Norwich, tells a neighbour “How could someone do something so terrible to little girl like that?’ is all over the papers.
Is Murat guilty? The papers produce nothing to indicate that he is. But if Murat is involved, look out for the stories of how British journalism cracked the case.
And look out for Madeleine McCann. Still missing…

Now that Kate is to become a formal suspect, does anyone know whether the McCann’s children are biologically their own?.
September 7th, 2007 at 3:29 am
Tiana…..where did u read about the DNA and cadaver odor in the cupboard at the McCanns new apartment and in the back of car hired by McCanns after disappearance of Madeleine?
I cant find it any where and was wondering if this is confirmed?
September 7th, 2007 at 3:25 am
Mrs McCann, a 39-year-old GP, was driven to the police station in Portimão by her husband at about 2pm yesterday. Before entering the building, she issued a direct plea to her daughter’s abductors to “do the right thing” and return the child or call police. “We came to Portugal an ordinary family of five,” she said. “We just want to know what happened on May 3 and want to be able to go home one family, reunited.”
Mrs McCann then went inside the police station, accompanied by her lawyer and Mr McCann’s sister, Trisha Cameron, to be questioned by two officers. Olegário Sousa, a spokesman for the Portuguese police, said: “The meeting is to update the situation and inform the couple of the progress of the inquiry.”
A family friend said last night that although the couple regarded the interviews as a “step forward in the investigation”, they were apprehensive about what they might mean. “They do fear they are about to become suspects. It’s been a hard week and we’re not through it yet.”
The Mccanns fear they are about to become suspects? I dont think they should let Kate speak with Gerry until he is questioned tomorrow. I still say if they did nothing wrong….then they have nothing to worry about
September 6th, 2007 at 11:30 pm
They are looking at Kate because cadaver odour found on her clothes. Also Madeleine’s DNA and cadaver odour in cupboard at McCanns new apartment. This odour also in back of car hired by McCanns after disappearance of Madeleine.
McCanns have explaining to do.

hi lorraine…how interesting this is
The mother of Madeleine McCann is terrified she will be seen as a suspect in the hunt for her missing daughter after being formally questioned by police, a friend has revealed
I keep saying if they didnt do anything then she should have nothing to worry about. I wonder why they are looking at Kate now?
September 6th, 2007 at 7:10 pm
Lorraine…a bit of interesting info….
The mother of missing four-year-old Madeleine McCann has been interviewed on her own by Portuguese police in a development which has sparked all sorts of speculation.
Kate McCann was dropped off at a police station in Portimao by her husband Gerry and pushed her way through dozens of waiting media to enter the station, accompanied by a relative.
The renewed questioning comes after Portuguese police received partial results of forensic evidence analysed in Britain.
The McCanns have previously attended regular informal meetings as a couple, but this is the first time one of them has been formally interviewed alone.

From Gerry’s blog…
We were surprised to find increased media presence in Praia da Luz again today. We were followed down to church, then to the shops and back to our accommodation which is very unusual, apart from the build up to the 100 days. All the excitement seems to be over the results of the recent forensic tests that again have created a huge amount of speculation. There has been no official conformation that the report has been received, or what the tests suggest if anything…
He again is talking about speculation(seems everything to Gerry is speculation) in reference to the DNA results. And the media is watching them at church, and the shops?!?!? He even mentions that the DNA report has not been confirmed or if the tests may suggest anything. I am very interested to see if we do hear within 48 hours and like the rest of the world…interested to see who this individual is….
September 6th, 2007 at 1:24 pm
Hi Lorraine…..
Read this in the news this am……I hope we do hear something within 48 hours.
Thursday, September 06, 2007
Portuguese police could reportedly be set to make new arrests in the Madeleine McCann case within the next 48 hours.
Reports this morning say the DNA of a potential suspect has been identified from samples taken inside the holiday apartment where the missing four-year-old was staying with her parents.
The DNA is understood to have been found in an area where the individual should not have been.
Madeleine disappeared from the apartment in the Algarve 126 days ago.

I have had bad experiences with some folks in UK. This makes me not trust any of them. In trying to sell some furniture they wanted me to cash a huge check and send par tof it to their shippers. Why did they not pay directly to their shippers? Bogus check and crocked folks behind it all. I wish for the safety of Madeleine

Elizabeth , here in the UK we have had that kind of scam too, but its not at all relevent to Madeleine McCann is it?
September 5th, 2007 at 8:02 pm
Hi Lorraine…..I have only head the following…
Detectives investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann have been handed significant forensic evidence which could lead to arrests in the case.
The McCanns seem to have been kept in the dark once again
The potentially crucial breakthrough came after specialists in the UK spent the last month analysing evidence from the scene.
It included traces of blood found in the apartment in the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz where the four-year-old disappeared on May 3.
However, her parents Kate and Gerry McCann were left in the dark about the development after Portuguese police failed to inform them.
Mr and Mrs McCann only found out through the media when they were interrupted during a jog by their campaign manager Justine McGuinness.
**It looks like the DNA results are in….and again we are told that THINGS can move forward SOON. Funny they didnt fill the Mccanns in on this?!?!
I am just wondering if the search and arrest they told us about earlier is in the UK?
September 5th, 2007 at 7:50 pm
hi star, have you heardany news at all?i havnt, only that the mcanns are suing portigal news paper, other than that ,nothing at all,and still nothing on the dna from the blood.

from Gerry’s blog
This evening we were invited to a friend’s house with the children for dinner. The twins had a good with the other kids in the paddling pool and especially enjoyed the banana splits with extra child friendly toppings!
DO WE CARE?!?!?!?
I like how he added that they were invited to a friend’s house WITH the children. How come they can NOW eat dinner WITH the children?

I think someone made a valid point earlier in the posts, that an investigation naturally considers all avenues, even if we as humans, find the fact that the McCanns’ and their friends could be potential suspects unnerving. Although, I sympathize with the McCanns’s plight; being accused of the murder of their little girl, I am not sure continually cricticizing the Portugese police and now suing the Portugese press is going to assist their cause in finding their little girl. Surely, they need these agencies on side ! rather than alienate them!. After all it wasn’t the police or press who took Madeleine!.
September 1st, 2007 at 5:59 pm
Lorraine maybe if the McCanns had called the police straight away instead of waiting 40 mins the police may have had a better chance of sealing the area, and also you must realise that you are listening to the uk media slagging the Portuguese Police off. I used to live in Portugal contacts over there have a very different view of the situation.

well i see on the news today that the mcann family are suing a portagul paper for saying that the police are saying that the mcanns are suspects in THE murder of little maddie, how insensitive could you get,am sorry but they are looking for their daughter, not knowing whether they will find her alive or dead, they dont need people pointing the finger, just not right!i feel so sorry for the mcann family, they need all the support they can get at the moment
August 31st, 2007 at 12:52 am
Closure … thats the least we can all hope for isnt it…
August 30th, 2007 at 11:14 am
am sorry but if the police had done their job properly at the start of the investegation, then maybe little maddie would of been found,am sorry but has not long come to light that their was blood specks found in the mcann appartment.and they also did not have police check all port docks untill three days later,do i need to go on.i understand that in their country they do things different, and thats ok,but a child has been missing for over a 100 days, and she is not the first child that has gone missing from portugal.
August 29th, 2007 at 9:13 pm
In Portugal is proved we have same special trained dogs and same tecnology,I think English Police took hand on this case, taking test blood etc…only to conduct investigation as appen to Diana case…faike proffs
August 29th, 2007 at 9:12 pm
hi n.richards, sorry hun,but i did actually mean at the begining,i dont think that anything would make much difference right now i honestly think that the police didnt do things quick enough in looking for little maddie in the begining.but that is just my opinion.
August 29th, 2007 at 8:00 pm
I wasn’t aware that Murat had changed his alibi, if this is case ? then obviously he remains a potential suspect. Lorraine, are you saying individuals should go to Portugal to help ? what would that achieve 3 months on ?. Equally, the issue about drug medication remains unanswered. I’m certainly not pointing the finger, but it would appear that this sorry tale has now become highly politicised: the English press say police incompentency!, Portugese press say infanticide. All I hope is the truth comes out eventually !
August 29th, 2007 at 7:48 pm
FINALLY a plea from Gerry!!!
Gerry McCann, 39, said Madeleine’s captor may have taken her because of a sudden impulse or “act of madness” which they might not understand themselves.
Writing in his daily internet blog, Mr McCann, from Rothley, Leicestershire, urged the abductor: “It is not too late to do the right thing.”
Ok the thing i dont understand is…the police have said they believe Maddie is dead and that they have a big piece of evidence that can prove this, they are waiting for test results for a search and arrest. They have also told us they bugged the parents and their friends cell phones, texts and emails and at that time knew for a month that Maddie was dead.
First Gerry says…we are sure Maddie is alive and being cared for, then they say they want to think she is still alive BUT they have to face the fact that she has been gone so long, NOW they believe she is in Spain?
Something is very wrong here. I guess all we can do is wait on the test results and find out what the search and arrest will bring, maybe then we will know what happen to Maddie.
August 29th, 2007 at 4:42 pm
i think we all feel that there should be doing to help, but what,we send donations, dosent seem much really,i dont know about you but i feel that ushould be out their and tryin to help in some way.

N. Richards, There seems to be conjecture on the man wearing a dark jacket and beige pants. An ex pat living upstairs apparently disturbed an intruder that day wearing like clothing as that desribed by one of the members of the Mcann party who was also seen by some other Brits making his way holding a child towards the water front who say that they knew Murat and that it wasnt him that was holding the child.
There was apparently something of a pornographic nature found on Murats PC and the dogs followed a trail towards his mothers villa.
He was identified as having been seen in the Mcanns apartment the night Madeleine went missing despite his denial of this. He changed his alibi from meeting a female friend from having dinner with his mother. He rented a car eventhough he already had a car and did so under a false name. He lied about speaking with the Russian man.
But is all this enough to label him as a suspect? I dont know.
Gerry Mcann has said that he believed that it is highly possible that Madeleine was taken to Spain. They did after all travel this route the day they went to distribute posters.
The fact that the PJ wont release much information is hard to fathom. Maybe they believe it to be for the best but the speculation and innuendo that has been generated from the Portugese press is inhumane. I know the Mcanns were terribly wrong in what they did by leaving the children unattended but this is terrible. Some say that thats the price to pay when you court the media for any reason you leave yourself open to all this.
I cant help wondering if there isnt something that we could all be doing that could help.
