Madeleine McCann: Robert Murat And More Questions
MADELEINE McCann is missing. Still missing.
But today there is news. The daily front-page shots of Madeleine’s traumatised parents are moved further within the papers to make space for the head of Robert Murat.
“MADELEINE BRITISH MAN IS QUIZZED!” says the Mirror’s front-page headline.
Robert Murat
After the speculation the paper delivers a welter of facts. Robert Murat lives with his mum. Robert Murat is in his 30s. Robert Murat lives with his mother in a villa 150 yards from the apartment where Madeleine McCann was snatched.
The Sun (“MADDIE: BRIT QUIZZED”) says Murat lives 100 yards from that McCann apartment. Like the Mirror, the Sun produces a front-page picture of “one-eyed Murat”. The Mail hears that Murat lost his eye in a BMX accident when he was a boy. The Mail says Murat lives 80 yards from Madeleine’s holiday apartment.
Murat is “stocky”. He offered to help the police hunt as a “translator”. He lives in Casa Liliana, with his mum Jenny.
The Suspect
The Sun’s Julie Moult considers the evidence. And delivers a piece entitled “stories of a fantasist”. “He always seemed so eager to get involved in the police investigation,” says the Sun’s woman–on-the-scene. “Robert claimed he had a daughter just like Madeleine and said he felt compelled to do anything he could. But to me he seemed like classic fantasist.”
The Sun introduces Martin Brunt, the crime news correspondent from its sister organ, TV’s Sky news.
He says Murat told him he’d been taken inside the McCanns’ apartment by police.
Sky news correspondent Ian Woods says he asked Murat to help him speak with locals.
“I met him and had a conversation with him. I tried to find out as much as I could about him,” says Woods, who checked out Murat’s details. “They did check out, and I left it at that for the time.”
The Mail’s Neil Sears also spots Murat. In “My encounters with a man ‘who just wanted to help’”, Sears tells Mail readers, “There was something more to the friendly expat who called himself ‘Rob’ than met the eye.”
Murat made Sears “feel slightly uncomfortable”.
But it was the Sunday Mirror’s Lori Cambell who alerted police to Murat’s behaviour, she saw as “creepy”.
Writing Wrongs
So much for investigative journalism. Questions were asked but nothing more was done. Murat is with police because he made a show of himself, because he acted as if working in an official capacity. Even though the Times says Murat was acting as “an official translator”.
So now the man in the chinos, with the glass eye, who lives with him mum and whose estranged wife, from Hockering, near Norwich, tells a neighbour “How could someone do something so terrible to little girl like that?’ is all over the papers.
Is Murat guilty? The papers produce nothing to indicate that he is. But if Murat is involved, look out for the stories of how British journalism cracked the case.
And look out for Madeleine McCann. Still missing…

Ross: one more thing.
Before you knock Celebs for not donating anonymously, how much money have you donated towards finding Madeleine, anonymously of course?
Right now you can’t even come up with a positive bloody comment let alone a bit of cash.

I personally believe the reason this abduction has received so much publicity is because, contrary to several people’s claims, the McCann’s are not taking this lying down and huddling in a corner waiting for good news to pop out of nowhere.
They and their extended family are moving heaven and earth to get their daughter back. That to me is the sign of good parents - not judging them by the mistakes they make but what they do to rectify those mistakes and avoid them in the future.
Ross: this forum is about the abduction of a little girl - not politics of racism. I suggest you start a new thread elsewhere if that is the point you wish to pursue.
Also, you believe Beckham, amongst others, are trying to increase their profile through this? Well that makes alot of sense - David Beckham is still feeling largely ignored by a small part of the world and is using an abduction to get more famous. We all know he is not the brightest but mate - he outshines you based on your comments.

Police in Portugal have taken away a 22-year-old Russian acquaintance of a suspect in the Madeleine McCann abduction inquiry.
Computer expert Sergey MalinkaPolice were searching the home of Sergey Malinka in a small cul-de-sac in the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz close to where Madeleine was abducted two weeks ago.
Officers also took away a laptop computer and a hard drive from the property.

just looking on the latest about the russian friend of robert, he apparently set up a website for robert, surely by now they must have something from roberts computer to be looking at someone close to him and specifically computer equipment

going back to the comment of ‘why are the parents still there?’ of course they are still there, they must be considering ‘what if she’s just round the corner or 10 miles away just waiting for us to find her? if they leave they will feel as if they have given up on her and left her. they will never be able to comfortably leave that place until they know where she is

What non-white child? The case is symblomatic of nothing but a crime…
May 16th, 2007 at 8:43 pm
QUOTE: The fact that these cases recieve nowhere near the level of attention is sympomatic of a racist society. British society.
don’t make this about something it isn’t!
May 16th, 2007 at 8:39 pm
Yes I do hope so.
May 16th, 2007 at 8:36 pm
it can get very political all of this but maybe this case will l be the start of new ways of helping other missing children-white or black
May 16th, 2007 at 8:28 pm
roy - the fact is that these cases happen all the time where the child happens to be non-white.
The fact that these cases recieve nowhere near the level of attention is sympomatic of a racist society. British society.
May 16th, 2007 at 8:08 pm
maybe if it had of been a non white poor family living in potato sacks who had left their child .
the fact is -it isnt.
why go on about something that cannot be changed.
the fact is she as gone,
wether he is going through hell or not the police need to do these things.
thank god its not me but thats life

I would like to say that I agree with everything Helena has said in this post already. Basically -
1- This case would NOT have been covered to anywherte near the degree it has had the child come from a poor, working class, non-white family who did not have access to legal representitives, press and politicians. This in itself is indicitive not only of the underlying racism within our country but he ’sharp elbows’ of the middle and upper classes.
2- Again, had this happened in the UK the red tops would be screaming about parents leaving their child unattended at night. I know that the family CLAIM to have checked up on the children every 30 minutes, but THAT IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. I expect social work to be investigating this case on the families return to the UK; hopefully with Madeleine.
3- Celebrities gaining free publicity by supporting this cause. I do not wish to repeat their names, but surely if they really hoped to support the cause they could give their money anonymously?
4- Finally - Robert Murat - who I hope everyone undertsnds has yet to be charged, tried or indeedsentenced is at the momemnt INNOCENT and shall remina so until it has been proved otherwise in a court of law. His life has been ruined completely as things stand, as people will form the impression that there is no smoke without fire. This site, and I;m sure many others have seen members of the public spout about how Murat ’sounds like a villain’ (!!!!) theories put forward as to whther or not the mother of Murat is involved, where Madeleien is at this time ’sold on’, ‘dead’ or being kept hidden! Again - this man is INNOCENT until proven guilty; and by the Court, not by Rupert Murdoch.

May 16th, 2007 at 7:19 pm
my oppinion is, that as we are now all aware of what a sick world it is, we should never put our kids at risk, just incase there is someone waiting for that moment when your guard is down…so no, the mccanns arent responsible for whoever took maddy being the sicko they are…but they are t blame-& i do blame them, for putting their children at risk & exposing them to such a dangerous situation.
everyone is scared because its a person that as taken maddy … but if it was a fire, or if one of tem had choked, dont tell me that you wouldnt be sayin something different!
if some scummy family was leaving their kids in their own home & going out, social services would be onto them like a shot, so to leave your kids in a foreign country for your own selfish pleasure of wanting to go out drinking & having a meal is disgusting! & theyr paying the ultimate price for it! god nows how many times theyv been left before…
no one should ever take their kids for granted!
May 16th, 2007 at 7:05 pm
…………..I do not blame them for what has happened.
May 16th, 2007 at 7:03 pm
I would put my life on the line to say that the McCann’s feel more than responsible for what has happened to Maddy. My opinion remains that I do not blame them.

I’m too busy working and helping look after my children to read Hoggart and his ilk, I should’ve qualified it by saying “if he wrote that then….”
May 16th, 2007 at 6:55 pm
Jombob, Did Hoggart say that?
May 16th, 2007 at 6:54 pm
DL-thanx… prety much said all that if u read my previous posts…nice to be neuriotic isnt it…
x
didnt u know ? neurotic is the new safe

Spare a thought in between this postulating on one lost child’s fate for the 1000s of Iraqi babies and children blown to bits by British, American and insurgent munitions.
How do you think their parents feel right now (if even they are still alive)?? Does this really compare??? GET REAL.
Simon Hoggart is plain wrong, am glad he’s not my dad cos he’d be rubbish at childcare with that attitude.
May 16th, 2007 at 6:42 pm
Let the Mccanns and Simon Hoggart rest easy in their conviction that leaving two 2 year olds and a 3 year old alone in a hotel room while the adults went out for dinner and drinks was not irresponsible. I, on the other hand, will continue to keep an eye on my child and remain steadfast in my belief that to do what the McCanns did is parental neglect and the height of stupidity. If that makes me “neurotic,” so be it. It also makes me a mother who still has her precious child. God help the McCanns, their cavalier attitude has cost them their child. That does not mean they DESERVE what happened, but it does mean they share some RESPONSIBILITY.
When will those of you who are like-minded wake up, snap out it and take off your rose colored glasses? If you are still so blind are to say, “Who could have imagined such a thing would have happened?”, then listen to those of us who are not at all surprised and are shaking our heads asking, “How many more times must this happen before parents learn they cannot leave their children like this?” Clearly, we see what you cannot or will not. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR YOUNG CHILDREN ALONE. IT IS ASKING FOR TROUBLE. PEDOPHILES ARE OPPORTUNISTS AND YOU MUST NOT GIVE THEM THE OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE YOUR CHILDREN!!!
And yes, I meant to yell. Apparently, it is necessary.

Information about Madeleine at http://www.los-maestros.com
May 16th, 2007 at 5:58 pm
I have some information about Madeleine McCann from Heaven.
Here you have the webpage where I add more or less everything that I know:
http://www.los-maestros.com
(undestand that I can not put absolutly everything for help on the investigation, only update 2 or 3 days later)
Some newspapers dicorvered my webpage and refered the information like :
” a opinao dos leitores”
http://ultimahora.publico.clix.pt/noticia.aspx?id=1294071&idCanal=undefined
I just received more details and Im writing them for update the webpage, I put a translator on the web for you can read it.
I hope this can help to find little Madeleine
If I can help with anything else just let me know.
May 16th, 2007 at 5:48 pm
@The Usual Suspect: I *am* disputing it. Everything involves an element of risk. The risks involved in leaving your kids sleeping whilst you have dinner 50 yards away were, and still are, very low. To quote Simon Hoggart in the Guardian: “Oh, and I don’t agree that the McCanns were irresponsible. All parents - except the most neurotic - leave their children at times.”
@Hayley, how do you not notice that your caps lock is on?
May 16th, 2007 at 5:44 pm
Leanne, its awful for the parents and police not to have any strong leads, they must feel so helpless and desperate and I can’t imagine a worse situation for anyone. Even now we don’t know if Murat is guilty and no real evidence has been supplied but I hope they have some leads they’re keeping quiet about and they find Madeleine alive soon.
But the things the psychic said just aren’t very helpful, if they’d followed her advice and checked up on all the german cleaners then they would have wasted a lot of time and wouldn’t have questioned the the german estate agent they are now talking about in the press.
The other thing the psychic said was its two men and a german woman which isn’t helpful because the list of potential suspects matching that description is quite large, it includes every german woman in portugal at the time who knows two men so they would still be shooting in the dark.
I’m not criticising anyone for wanting to try just pointing out the some of details she gave were wrong and whats left after that is too vague to be very much good.
Kath: Yeah I read your posts, here’s a couple of quotes
“firstly, i am glad all you people blaming the parents are such perfect people you have never made a mistake! hindsight is a wonderful thing.”
“maybe u need anger management!! judging by ur post. makes me wonder what sort of mother you are!”
Practice what you preach before you lecture others.
By the way, psychics have proven to be useless time and time again and Their involvement has made innocent familes suffer even more, this is quoted from http://www.keypoint.com.au/~skeptics/Murders_and_Clairvoyants
It is a story of how bad leads from 250 psychics made a bad situation worse and worse
“They have been a huge torment to myself and my family in giving cryptic clues as to where Sarah might be,” he told the ABC’s Australian Story in February.
Many of the clues sounded specific, but they were just not specific enough.
One clairvoyant told of a house in the inner Perth suburb of Wembley where Sarah was being held against her will. The seer described a house that was in a treelined street, with a white picket fence and a For Sale sign at the front. But the vision mysteriously did not include a street name or house number.
Every street in Wembley has street trees. Don Spiers spent hours driving the streets looking for the right house, without success. On another occasion he made the long, sad car trip alone to the old gold mining town of Southern Cross, 250 km east of Perth, where he was to find a man fitting a certain description in a pub. This man held the key. But again he drove home empty handed, frustrated, angry and shattered.”

Noone here wants the McCann’s to go through the same torment and the police were right to protected the family from your friend.
Maybe its really an episode of scooby doo and they’ll pull a mask off the cleaner and underneath the portuguese man mask its really a german woman your psychic friend was right all along
it just annoys me, its exactly this attitude that prevents progress being made, anything u dont understand should be ridiculed. psychics have been known to come up with very usefull information during murder investigations, the psychic on the Moira Anderson case came up with invaluable information and knew only things that Moira herself could have known and taken to the grave with her
