Madeleine McCann: Robert Murat And More Questions
MADELEINE McCann is missing. Still missing.
But today there is news. The daily front-page shots of Madeleine’s traumatised parents are moved further within the papers to make space for the head of Robert Murat.
“MADELEINE BRITISH MAN IS QUIZZED!” says the Mirror’s front-page headline.
Robert Murat
After the speculation the paper delivers a welter of facts. Robert Murat lives with his mum. Robert Murat is in his 30s. Robert Murat lives with his mother in a villa 150 yards from the apartment where Madeleine McCann was snatched.
The Sun (“MADDIE: BRIT QUIZZED”) says Murat lives 100 yards from that McCann apartment. Like the Mirror, the Sun produces a front-page picture of “one-eyed Murat”. The Mail hears that Murat lost his eye in a BMX accident when he was a boy. The Mail says Murat lives 80 yards from Madeleine’s holiday apartment.
Murat is “stocky”. He offered to help the police hunt as a “translator”. He lives in Casa Liliana, with his mum Jenny.
The Suspect
The Sun’s Julie Moult considers the evidence. And delivers a piece entitled “stories of a fantasist”. “He always seemed so eager to get involved in the police investigation,” says the Sun’s woman–on-the-scene. “Robert claimed he had a daughter just like Madeleine and said he felt compelled to do anything he could. But to me he seemed like classic fantasist.”
The Sun introduces Martin Brunt, the crime news correspondent from its sister organ, TV’s Sky news.
He says Murat told him he’d been taken inside the McCanns’ apartment by police.
Sky news correspondent Ian Woods says he asked Murat to help him speak with locals.
“I met him and had a conversation with him. I tried to find out as much as I could about him,” says Woods, who checked out Murat’s details. “They did check out, and I left it at that for the time.”
The Mail’s Neil Sears also spots Murat. In “My encounters with a man ‘who just wanted to help’”, Sears tells Mail readers, “There was something more to the friendly expat who called himself ‘Rob’ than met the eye.”
Murat made Sears “feel slightly uncomfortable”.
But it was the Sunday Mirror’s Lori Cambell who alerted police to Murat’s behaviour, she saw as “creepy”.
Writing Wrongs
So much for investigative journalism. Questions were asked but nothing more was done. Murat is with police because he made a show of himself, because he acted as if working in an official capacity. Even though the Times says Murat was acting as “an official translator”.
So now the man in the chinos, with the glass eye, who lives with him mum and whose estranged wife, from Hockering, near Norwich, tells a neighbour “How could someone do something so terrible to little girl like that?’ is all over the papers.
Is Murat guilty? The papers produce nothing to indicate that he is. But if Murat is involved, look out for the stories of how British journalism cracked the case.
And look out for Madeleine McCann. Still missing…

Rob, the feeling I get from everyone I speak to is that they’d sway towards him being innocent despite what’s being printed. Everyone has to keep an open mind though. People coming to concrete conclusions based on what they read in the press are not worth bothering about. It’s people’s only source of info though. Perhaps you are in a great position to enlighten us as to the evidence that’s not getting printed in the press and what the local community really thinks.
I’ve just looked at the comlex’s website. I looks a great place to take kids. They have a all day kids club and a drop in creche in the evening for a drop in dining out service.
It’s going to decimate this complex despite the dining out service or babysitting service being used.

Hi Guys, just browsing this story and thought i would give my thoughts, I have been a friend of Rob Murats for over 5 years, working with him in car sales norwich. I first saw his name mentioned on monday night, and honestly could not believe my eyes! All the positive things you read about Rob are true, Yes he enjoyed poking his nose into things and often came over as annoying or just plain wierd, BUT i truly believe that his heart was always in the right place, all of our friends would trust Rob with their children and I really find it very difficult to believe he could be involved in anything like this. We spoke to Rob last night and he is totally in pieces, I just want to remind everyone that there is no proof as yet and we must assume for now he is a totally innocent Brit. Please spare a thought for him and his family, and remember there is still a little girl missing and that should be everyones priority right now.

like I said before - people have to look for someone to blame - if there is some sort of evidence for Murat to be named a suspect then of course people will think he’s guilty as there has been no other information. Did anyone see his cousin on the news defending him?? Maybe I’m naive but I genuinely believed what she was saying….

OMFG! i cant believe some of the comments that iv read, some of you sound like you live in a different world! i blame the parents becuase they should never have been so selfish-no babysitter-no going out!
when i was 4 my parents put me in a similar situation & i was abused for 3 hours before he let me go, what if he hadnt? i could have been dead , & when i was growing up, there were times i wished i was dead! i was on antidepressants at 14, in councelling twice a week & my parents had the cheek to see me as some kind of problem child! ‘why cant you be more like your brothers, they are going to uni’ erm let me think, could it be because you almost got me killed when i was 4? we have always been quite well off in our family, & my parents both had great jobs, so theres no excuse. its disgusting & my life is ruined. i never have & never will forgive them, they are almost as bad as my abuser! hardly any of you have seen the bigger picture, i just hope if she is live that her parents are not left alone to bring her up because they obviously arent capable!

i think it was further up the forum

Sounds like reading all this stuff that most folk are sure that MURAT is guilty, no one’s sayin much about the parents going out on the piss and leaving the child alone!
May 17th, 2007 at 11:57 am
he probably had a quick look with a peice of toast sticking out of his mouth and jacket over his arm with minutes to catch his little red bus for work to is very boring tedious job.
never mind.

Cool, what’s your job? Talking on internet forums? Nice work if you can get it. I’m off to get on with that thing they call real life. I hope the end result leaves you all feeling some peace.
May 17th, 2007 at 11:25 am
FYI Ben I am at work….. just keep checking for any news…. if someone is on here - maybe their child is asleep dont be so judgemental.
We all know her parents are suffering but people like to have someone to blame, personally as I have said I woulndt leave my daughter but as we have all said so many times - what’s done is done the only thing that matters now is fniding who took her and bringing her back
May 17th, 2007 at 11:22 am
i am working at the moment-

some people are just thinking of madeleine and share thoughts through this forum.
May 17th, 2007 at 11:20 am
Welcome Ben.
May 17th, 2007 at 11:19 am
If some of you are such an excellent example of good parenting why aren’t you spending time nurturing your children or working earning money to support your family instead of arguing with other morons on a bleeding internet ‘chatroom’. I cannot believe there are forums with people arguing over who cares more for a missing girl they’ve never met and being making vicious comments about her already suffering parents. Let’s hope nothing ever happens to your child or we may see your harddrive being carried out of your homes and then idiots on the internet can say “see! It’s all her fault, if she wasn’t sat all day obsessing about getting the news in first on a stupid forum this would never have happened!!!!!”.

two 10 yr olds killed Jamie Bulgar, what indication is age?
May 17th, 2007 at 11:18 am
I imagine years of childhood abuse themselves gets them into this - though the Russian doesn’t appear to fit that mold does he?
May 17th, 2007 at 11:15 am
the russian is only 22-how does someone end up in this dark seedy business(thats if he is guilty)
May 17th, 2007 at 11:14 am
What worries me is that if these guys are innocent, what other leads are there?
May 17th, 2007 at 11:13 am
At least the majority of us raise our children with a caring and stable manner. I have raised my boys as I was raised and I love and my value my parents for giving me a loving and supportive up-bringing. Children only learn from their parents and peers what is right and wrong.
May 17th, 2007 at 11:10 am
yes that’s so true - unfortunately, they think their lives and ways are normal. How sad.
May 17th, 2007 at 11:08 am
Quote:-if these people are involved , how do they act so cool and normal.
unfortunatley that is life, wouldn’t it all be easier if all peodophiles where greasy men with dodgy eyes wearing long grey raincoats.
the world just isn’t like that, these people are your friend, your father, your priest, the guy you chat to in the pub.
May 17th, 2007 at 11:06 am
I agree Roy. It is not my intention to get into mud-slinging and name -calling matches.
At the same time though, I feel the need to defend the McCanns from comments which are not relevant at this point in time.
Let’s keep the comments to within the scope of the investigation/case and our thoughts/ideas, and lay off blaming the McCanns when it achieves nothing.
Apologies for any offence caused - not intended. This whole situation is obviously quite emotional for all of us.
May 17th, 2007 at 11:03 am
i feel that too,
but i still have hope.
if these people are involved , how do they act so cool and normal.
May 17th, 2007 at 11:02 am
I completely agree Roy. It is not my intention to get into mud-slinging and name -calling matches.
At the same time though, I am not prepared to allow people to post such negative comments about the parents when they are not even here to defend themselves.

yes Roy they are, Thank you for making yourself look even more pathetic Steve,i made reference to people in general, i didnt personally attack anyone with a childish name! You call Kirsty judgmental for voicing her oppinion in the right place, at the RIGHT time, yet your so low & pathetc you pick up on a typing error? wow, issues…serious issues!! *rolls eyes*
well, off to see some friends now-we live near the McCanns, so not only do i believe that people like Kirsty & Helene have made some brilliant points, but i am also in a position to see 1st hand the effect that retarded ignorant arseh0les have on the famly friends surrounding!
ood day to the normal people, & good riddence to the losers!

well said roy!
and yes i have a feeling the police are exposing a rather large organisation
It seems they wouldn’t be doin all this without at least some inclin of who these people are, and i’m afraid i think it;s getting more and more unlikely they will find Madeleine alive.
