Madeleine McCann: Robert Murat And More Questions
MADELEINE McCann is missing. Still missing.
But today there is news. The daily front-page shots of Madeleine’s traumatised parents are moved further within the papers to make space for the head of Robert Murat.
“MADELEINE BRITISH MAN IS QUIZZED!” says the Mirror’s front-page headline.
Robert Murat
After the speculation the paper delivers a welter of facts. Robert Murat lives with his mum. Robert Murat is in his 30s. Robert Murat lives with his mother in a villa 150 yards from the apartment where Madeleine McCann was snatched.
The Sun (“MADDIE: BRIT QUIZZED”) says Murat lives 100 yards from that McCann apartment. Like the Mirror, the Sun produces a front-page picture of “one-eyed Murat”. The Mail hears that Murat lost his eye in a BMX accident when he was a boy. The Mail says Murat lives 80 yards from Madeleine’s holiday apartment.
Murat is “stocky”. He offered to help the police hunt as a “translator”. He lives in Casa Liliana, with his mum Jenny.
The Suspect
The Sun’s Julie Moult considers the evidence. And delivers a piece entitled “stories of a fantasist”. “He always seemed so eager to get involved in the police investigation,” says the Sun’s woman–on-the-scene. “Robert claimed he had a daughter just like Madeleine and said he felt compelled to do anything he could. But to me he seemed like classic fantasist.”
The Sun introduces Martin Brunt, the crime news correspondent from its sister organ, TV’s Sky news.
He says Murat told him he’d been taken inside the McCanns’ apartment by police.
Sky news correspondent Ian Woods says he asked Murat to help him speak with locals.
“I met him and had a conversation with him. I tried to find out as much as I could about him,” says Woods, who checked out Murat’s details. “They did check out, and I left it at that for the time.”
The Mail’s Neil Sears also spots Murat. In “My encounters with a man ‘who just wanted to help’”, Sears tells Mail readers, “There was something more to the friendly expat who called himself ‘Rob’ than met the eye.”
Murat made Sears “feel slightly uncomfortable”.
But it was the Sunday Mirror’s Lori Cambell who alerted police to Murat’s behaviour, she saw as “creepy”.
Writing Wrongs
So much for investigative journalism. Questions were asked but nothing more was done. Murat is with police because he made a show of himself, because he acted as if working in an official capacity. Even though the Times says Murat was acting as “an official translator”.
So now the man in the chinos, with the glass eye, who lives with him mum and whose estranged wife, from Hockering, near Norwich, tells a neighbour “How could someone do something so terrible to little girl like that?’ is all over the papers.
Is Murat guilty? The papers produce nothing to indicate that he is. But if Murat is involved, look out for the stories of how British journalism cracked the case.
And look out for Madeleine McCann. Still missing…

I’m raging that some sicko has the nerve to hoax about something like this. If I ever bumped into them it’d be the 1st and last time we’d meet.

Sorry I think my post may of been misunderstood. I didnt mean it in the sense that everything is free, I think it would be wrong if services and anything to make their stay more “comfortable” in a sense wasnt offered especially as the last thing they want to be worrying about is the cost.. the reason why I asked about the fund was because I am actually quite content to contribute and was wanting to find out more.

Has anybody contibuted to the Maddie Fund at all?
Im not sure myself what how exactly it benefits finding the little girl! Are the parents still getting paid from there jobs, along with receiving free accommodation whilst in Portugal.
I feel that the parents should never have left these little tots alone, were the other two awake when the parents found Madeleine missing?
I truly hope they find this little girl safe and sound

Eileen O’Toole/Kirsty/Kath - I want to go back to your posts from the night before last where Eileen mentions that Murat had travelled abroad between the night Madeleine went missing the time he was questioned by police. This is the first I had heard of this and am totally astonished. He says his daughter looks like Madeleine and I had thought it was possible he could have taken her out of Portugal but surely we would have heard if he’d travelled. Now your saying he did. I am assuming the police are looking deeply into this and following every step he took. They are being very careful (as frustrating as it is) not to say too much because they know it will excite people.
Guys, please please please stop using this site to condemn Jerry and Kate McCann here. We all know it wasn’t the best of moves to leave the children alone, nobody is saying it was a great idea. They are living with that decision now and know what people are saying about them. It’s hard enough for them that they can’t find their daughter, without everyone screaming that it’s their fault. The real crime here is the abductor (assuming there is one but it’s definately looking more likely that Madeleine didn’t leave the complex by herself). He or she or they may never be caught but Jerry and Kate will be punished for the rest of their lives. Let’s focus on the main issue here - finding Madeleine.
I can’t stop crying and am heartbroken.

noone is disputing that Paul. It just isn’t productive to keep banging on about, i think we are all agreed that they made a mistake
What you think they aren’t aware of that?
May 17th, 2007 at 5:39 pm
Besides the threat of your kids being abducted its madness just to even think of leaving them on their own and check back every half hour , check back to see what, that there hasnt been a fire or they havent ran a bath and drown in it?? its crazy leaving kids.
May 17th, 2007 at 5:39 pm
Just read what Kath wrote as my friend mailed me back. wow thats exciting, fingers crossed…
really am going to start cooking this time, see you all later. xxx

Quote (sky news) There have been reports that officers are now searching for a red Ford van after a possible sighting of Madeleine in the southern suburbs of the capital Lisbon.

C, I’m sure we’ll all be interested in any such development, keep us posted.
May 17th, 2007 at 5:24 pm
Paul, I find that newspapers/news sites aren’t just reporting what they know, their making up the bits they don’t know too - this in turn causes the witnesses and their families/contacts/friends no end of grief … Who knows if Murat is a guilty party - certainly not the reporters.
p.s. I can’t believe I got 2+3 wrong !!!!
May 17th, 2007 at 5:23 pm
1 more thing, i just read this from a friend in portugal:
I got a kind of good news about Maddie. Police found near of Lisbon a red van where they found some clue about little girl. I think they are now very close to the group who did such horrible thing!
iv messaged him back so il wait to see i guess?
May 17th, 2007 at 5:21 pm
The trouble with neurotic parenting is that it can do more harm than good.
May 17th, 2007 at 5:20 pm
Bye now C, and all. Let’s hope there’s good news sometime soon. I hope someone knowledgeable picks up on my question above about the boats. I keep wondering if the abductor(s) have come East into the Med where there appears to be no publicity.
May 17th, 2007 at 5:16 pm
Thanks Gina, but they are very ignorant & it wasnt the 1st time they had left me, or my brothers. Also, going back to people never thinking it will happen to them, a little boy called Casey had been abducted 3 weeks previous to them leaving me so why werent they worried? Its their attitude toward the situation that has kept me feeling bitter over the years, so yeah i know its hard for you to understand as you dont know the full story etc, but i am a very loving kind compassionate person & i do feel so, so sorry for the McCanns, but at the same time i think ‘argh! you f***ing morons!’ im sure they think that about themselves too.
I have to make supper now, take care everyone, il check in later. xxx
