Madeleine McCann: Robert Murat And More Questions
MADELEINE McCann is missing. Still missing.
But today there is news. The daily front-page shots of Madeleine’s traumatised parents are moved further within the papers to make space for the head of Robert Murat.
“MADELEINE BRITISH MAN IS QUIZZED!” says the Mirror’s front-page headline.
Robert Murat
After the speculation the paper delivers a welter of facts. Robert Murat lives with his mum. Robert Murat is in his 30s. Robert Murat lives with his mother in a villa 150 yards from the apartment where Madeleine McCann was snatched.
The Sun (“MADDIE: BRIT QUIZZED”) says Murat lives 100 yards from that McCann apartment. Like the Mirror, the Sun produces a front-page picture of “one-eyed Murat”. The Mail hears that Murat lost his eye in a BMX accident when he was a boy. The Mail says Murat lives 80 yards from Madeleine’s holiday apartment.
Murat is “stocky”. He offered to help the police hunt as a “translator”. He lives in Casa Liliana, with his mum Jenny.
The Suspect
The Sun’s Julie Moult considers the evidence. And delivers a piece entitled “stories of a fantasist”. “He always seemed so eager to get involved in the police investigation,” says the Sun’s woman–on-the-scene. “Robert claimed he had a daughter just like Madeleine and said he felt compelled to do anything he could. But to me he seemed like classic fantasist.”
The Sun introduces Martin Brunt, the crime news correspondent from its sister organ, TV’s Sky news.
He says Murat told him he’d been taken inside the McCanns’ apartment by police.
Sky news correspondent Ian Woods says he asked Murat to help him speak with locals.
“I met him and had a conversation with him. I tried to find out as much as I could about him,” says Woods, who checked out Murat’s details. “They did check out, and I left it at that for the time.”
The Mail’s Neil Sears also spots Murat. In “My encounters with a man ‘who just wanted to help’”, Sears tells Mail readers, “There was something more to the friendly expat who called himself ‘Rob’ than met the eye.”
Murat made Sears “feel slightly uncomfortable”.
But it was the Sunday Mirror’s Lori Cambell who alerted police to Murat’s behaviour, she saw as “creepy”.
Writing Wrongs
So much for investigative journalism. Questions were asked but nothing more was done. Murat is with police because he made a show of himself, because he acted as if working in an official capacity. Even though the Times says Murat was acting as “an official translator”.
So now the man in the chinos, with the glass eye, who lives with him mum and whose estranged wife, from Hockering, near Norwich, tells a neighbour “How could someone do something so terrible to little girl like that?’ is all over the papers.
Is Murat guilty? The papers produce nothing to indicate that he is. But if Murat is involved, look out for the stories of how British journalism cracked the case.
And look out for Madeleine McCann. Still missing…

Yeah - but he’s not got a fairy’s name like you!

It’s difficult to know whether Robert Murat knows anything about Maddy’s disappearance or not. The Portuguese police seem to have certain grounds for suspecting him, but then again, he’s 33, living with his mother, playing ‘mammies and daddies’, pathetic one-eyed freak. Plus the fact that cops seized his computer: we can hazard a guess as to what kinda dirt he’s into looking at. I say torture this complete piece of crap into revealing what he knows; either it will produce evidence pertinent to the enquiry or not; either way pedo mammy’s boy gets whats coming to him. Dirty disfigured nonce

The Realist is a voice of reason. all of this publicity about Madeleine has sealed her fate. Far easier to ‘dispose’ of her, than deal with being caught due to her ‘fame’.
One more dead kid, among millions of others. The only difference is that the others pass us by unnoticed.
May 22nd, 2007 at 6:25 pm
Hoping The Realist is wrong.

No one knows if she is dead or not so your paraphrase is out of context.
May 22nd, 2007 at 1:35 pm
obviously you havent.

99% of girls abducted are raped and murdered with 12 hours of being taken. The chances of her being alive are somewhere between non existant and zero after 19 days. It’s a big bad world, bad things happen, to paraphrase Dr McCoy ‘She’s dead Jim’… get over it and move on.

I hope this little girl is safe and being looked after by whoever took her
God help the parents, we should pray for them and not pass judgement we all make mistakes. They are in enough pain without people adding to it. I think the police should keep information to themselves and work away quietly on whatever leads they have. Why is the phycic that said where the other two little girls were not brought in on the case? I,m sure he could help , anything is worth trying and every minute counts. Offer money to whoever has her I know people who commit crime should not be paid but I would pay anything to get my child back money is only money but a child is priceless, put it out there that there will be no blame just return her to her family Please God let her be safe and returned to her family soon I PRAY FOR HER AND HER PARENTS EVERY NIGHT. IF YOU HAVE ANY HEART AT ALL LET HER GO, LEAVE HER SOMEWHERE SAFE AND THEY WILL CONTACT THE PARENTS — PLEASE!!!!!

yes i just read the same about the kids club -i did think it was very strange too.i think thats a bit weird about murats computer files and also his friends and mother seems weird…it is all so strange and i think that this will all end in somekinda shock for everyone. i always think that the bady is near the crime.perverts are usually relatives-friends of the family or neighbours-or holiday makers or people near by.
what has hapened to maddie?no one knows? or some one knows? if there is a God…He Knows so if you believe in him Pray!see her being protected and freed!
but there is a growing feeling i see here that something really isnt quite right here…
someone knows something and it is going to be let out soon it has to.who ever is guilty is going to be found very soon.
all i know is that the demons will get em! for what they have done.ther eis no crime worst than to children.

I must admit I too feel very uncomfortable about this. I think who ever is advising them should stop now. i think they are trying to stay in the media’s focus, but I really think they need some sense.
But still we all should keep on looking and doing what we can for Madeleine

I have expressed my heartache for Gerry and Kate McCann all through my posts here but I have to say I’ve just read the latest update on the “findmadeleine” site and it has annoyed me. I am confused as to why we need to know how they are spending their days. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not changing my opinion and suggesting they were involved in this. I was also surprised at the fact they are leaving the twins at kids club because only this morning on my way to work I thought they will never let them out of their site again. I know they are more than likely being advised by professionals on how to carry on and that it wouldn’t be fair on the twins to be constantly smothered and over protected by their parents but after what’s happened, I’m just surprised. Is that wrong of me to think that? Also they mention that they managed to reach the top of the cliff overlooking Praia de Luz in 19 minutes. So what? What is going on in their poor minds to think that we care about stuff like that? I don’t want to sound awful for saying all of this but they were just points that surprised me.

“if” Rudyard Kipling - strange name?
How eloquently put, I agree with you totally. It is a shame that people would be so judging.

I think there are a lot of people putting 2 + 2 together to make a mountain, when the simple truth is that you and I (Joe Public) don’t know the details - Portuguese law and what they have to withold etc. Without knowing any of the finer details it does seem that someone had to be watching and planning this - doesn’t it? And as though their escape route and hideout was all planned too - as not a trace of anything has been found? All I can say is these people should be removed from the planet if they are ever found. Let’s pray they are and let’s hope it’s not too late for little angel, Madelaine.

Why are there so few clues to the disappearance of Madeleine. Why so many questions unanswered and has anyone thought of the possibility that someone in the family is involved?? That seems outrageous but its happened before. The pictures displayed of her are in such detail too - where did these pics come from if they were on holiday. I pray everyday awaiting news of her and how do they know she was abducted was there any notes and the fingerprints found on the window who’s fingerprints were they. Too many questions not enough answers and so few clues, surely in today’s investigations one would find something this is too mysterious for me to understand.

i havent really heard anything on the news last week about madeleine.
is this fading into insignificance like everything always does?
i hope not.
they are saying she is probably not in portugal now-
does anyone know anything more than this?
May 21st, 2007 at 2:30 am
I’d post something, but “jo” said it all!
DITTO AND THEN SOME!
May 21st, 2007 at 12:55 am
And now I hear they are leaving their 2 year old twins at creche/daycare??? If it is associated with the hotel, have they stopped to think that there is a distinct possibility someone who works at the hotel in some capacity (or has ties to the hotel through the employee) could have been involved in the abduction?
Considering one child is missing and likely to never be seen again, I’d say most parents would not be willing to let the twins out of their sight right now, unless it was to a close and trusted relative. Mine would be attached to me by bungee cords. Surely some of that $5 million could be spent to fly an aunt or grandmother in to help. From where I sit, I am not so certain they really have learned from their past poor decisions. It really is a forehead slapper.
May 20th, 2007 at 11:22 pm
Sheesh. If the family call her Maddy why would the girl’s mother say “Please, it’s Madeleine, not Maddy”?
May 20th, 2007 at 11:14 pm
maybe they know they have to stay calm.. not all of us are hysterical !
and you don’t know what is going on behind closed doors.
i for one admire their cool determination
May 20th, 2007 at 7:16 pm
i agree with what your saying but in my opinion the parents are too calm, i dont believe at all that this is a publicity stunt but i just cant understand the calmness i have 2 girls 5 & 8 and i would be crazy
May 20th, 2007 at 7:06 pm
To all those who think that her parents must be involved because Madeleine didnt scream or wake her siblings etc… my two youngest children are 19 months and 3 and i can and have on many occasions lifted them up and moved them whilst they are sleeping without waking them, i have moved them from bed to bed, car to inside and carried them around for quite sometime whilst out and about without them even stirring. How hard do you think it would be for a fully grown adult to place their hand over a 3 year olds mouth to stop them from making a sound! I hope and pray everyday for Madeleine to be found safe and well, no child deserves to be taken away from their parents and siblings against their will.

Well thanks to Anorak, I’ve answered my own question re. the sites mentioned in my first post - they are both legitimate and Anorak helpfully also gives the details of the bogus sites. It would be less confusing if both addresses were given, not just one.
May 20th, 2007 at 2:06 pm
I think all this media attention will be seen, in hindsight, to have been as unhelpful, counter-productive and misleading as the initial response of the Portugese police. The British press, having set the Murat hare running in the first place, are now turning on the police for focussing too much on him!
All this speculation and repeated news bulletins just to tell us there’s nothing new to report is not producing any results and is probably hindering the investigation if the truth be known since the information gaps are being filled with suppositions and rumour.
Even something as simple as the official website is confusing. Is there more than one? Is it true that identical fake websites have been set up to grab the donations being made to the family? The BBC link takes you to http://www.findmadeleine.com but the Independent edition of today’s date has the address as http://www.bringmadeleinehome.com - so are they both legitimate sites?
I, like everyone else concerned for this little girl’s welfare, wish and hope she will be found safe and returned to her family. But this seems more and more to be a media driven investigation and it needs to stop.

Travesity,
The point of my comments was to understand whether the attention placed on Robert Murant is justified. Of course, you may be right, and he is a totally innocent man. Equally, you may be wrong and he is guilty. What would you say if it turns out that he offered his interpretation services so he could be closer to the police investigation so he could construct his defence?; or continually entered the villa so he could corrupt potential DNA evidence? or travelled to England, to say a last goodbye to his daughter, because he knew trouble was brewing? hired a car to drive somewhere to dump the evidence (although, I’m not sure about that one, as he knew he was being followed)?; it turns out that he has some form of personality disorder? a body is found in the cellar?, the pornographic information is in fact child pornography?; the friends interviewed turn out to be the very same people observed with a child at the petrol station?. As for the affair, from what I understand the husband is fully aware that Robert Murat is his wife’s lover and classifies him as a friend, very bizarre !!!( it’s a question of morals). Of course, all this “evidence” may be utter rubbish, Columbo stuff and if that is the case, then I do feel genuinely sorry for the guy. However, when this sorry tale is over, I wouldn’t be surprised if he wrote a book.
Anyway, despite all of this rather trivial waffle, it is absoloutely awlful that Madeline has not been found as yet, it’s really worrying now. I really hope that this ends well and the child is found well.
