Madeleine McCann: Robert Murat And More Questions
MADELEINE McCann is missing. Still missing.
But today there is news. The daily front-page shots of Madeleine’s traumatised parents are moved further within the papers to make space for the head of Robert Murat.
“MADELEINE BRITISH MAN IS QUIZZED!” says the Mirror’s front-page headline.

After the speculation the paper delivers a welter of facts. Robert Murat lives with his mum. Robert Murat is in his 30s. Robert Murat lives with his mother in a villa 150 yards from the apartment where Madeleine McCann was snatched.
The Sun (“MADDIE: BRIT QUIZZED”) says Murat lives 100 yards from that McCann apartment. Like the Mirror, the Sun produces a front-page picture of “one-eyed Murat”. The Mail hears that Murat lost his eye in a BMX accident when he was a boy. The Mail says Murat lives 80 yards from Madeleine’s holiday apartment.
Murat is “stocky”. He offered to help the police hunt as a “translator”. He lives in Casa Liliana, with his mum Jenny.
The Suspect
The Sun’s Julie Moult considers the evidence. And delivers a piece entitled “stories of a fantasist”. “He always seemed so eager to get involved in the police investigation,” says the Sun’s woman–on-the-scene. “Robert claimed he had a daughter just like Madeleine and said he felt compelled to do anything he could. But to me he seemed like classic fantasist.”
The Sun introduces Martin Brunt, the crime news correspondent from its sister organ, TV’s Sky news.
He says Murat told him he’d been taken inside the McCanns’ apartment by police.
Sky news correspondent Ian Woods says he asked Murat to help him speak with locals.
“I met him and had a conversation with him. I tried to find out as much as I could about him,” says Woods, who checked out Murat’s details. “They did check out, and I left it at that for the time.”
The Mail’s Neil Sears also spots Murat. In “My encounters with a man ‘who just wanted to help’”, Sears tells Mail readers, “There was something more to the friendly expat who called himself ‘Rob’ than met the eye.”
Murat made Sears “feel slightly uncomfortable”.
But it was the Sunday Mirror’s Lori Cambell who alerted police to Murat’s behaviour, she saw as “creepy”.
Writing Wrongs
So much for investigative journalism. Questions were asked but nothing more was done. Murat is with police because he made a show of himself, because he acted as if working in an official capacity. Even though the Times says Murat was acting as “an official translator”.
So now the man in the chinos, with the glass eye, who lives with him mum and whose estranged wife, from Hockering, near Norwich, tells a neighbour “How could someone do something so terrible to little girl like that?’ is all over the papers.
Is Murat guilty? The papers produce nothing to indicate that he is. But if Murat is involved, look out for the stories of how British journalism cracked the case.
And look out for Madeleine McCann. Still missing…

I agree totally with Phil - the parents with this level of intelligence should be showing and setting an example to others - leaving your children whilst going out to dinner is not acceptable. i bet if they had come from a council estate rather than being posh doctors they would have been given a proper slating.
The sick child snatcher is still out there and so is the child - but tha parents have to accept responsibility for their actions….

Fair enough, you argue that the parents may have made a mistake for leaving the kids… but you can’t be so cold hearted to blame them for what’s happened. The sicko that took Maddy should be the hate figure.

People’s memories are very short. At the time Sarah Payne went missing, her mother was critcised for being too calm. She was also suspected (not by the police, but by people with nothing better to do than analayse how traumatised a parent should look). But it wasn’t her, was it?
Thank Heavens for Steve, Leanne and other voices of reason. Can we just get this right? Someone abducted a child. That someone is the wrongdoer, not the parents. OK - you may not leave your kids for fear they’ll wake up, etc, but your kids may be the kind that don’t. You think you’re safe because you’re not in (wait for it) the UK!!! Holiday locations are so often child-loving/oriented places. They’ll never do it again, but thousands of other parents will - because they think it’s safe!
How long are your gardens? Have you ever left your children inside while you put the washing out/eat outside or whatever? The babysitting service was not efficient. The listening service had been discontinued (I have a friend who confirms that people are not told this until they get there). A paedophile is a paedophile. A child seller is a child seller. He or she would have got a child, whatever.
I agree that Ben Needham’s mum didn’t get the same exposure - but that was 15 years ago and we’ve had Soham since then (and Sarah Payne). I get the points about the money and the media frenzy re. Robert Murat. But we know nothing! We don’t know what the police know. They are notoriously quiet. I will say just one thing - if you’ve been in a building and don’t want people to know you were there, the best thing is to go back and ‘corrupt’ the scene - your scent will be established and the sniffer dogs won’t go for you. How do you do that? Oh yes - offer your services as an interpreter!
Can we just stop having a go at the parents and have some compassion? I also worry about what Madeleine is being told by the real criminals in this case. If it worries us, how on earth do you think the parents handle it?

I am a long term close friend of Rob Murat and I can completely and sincerely say he is a genuine and kind and friendly guy. I would trust him with my own daughter whose 2 1/2 Yrs Old and i am getting tired of hearing adverse comments against Rob.
If his crime was helping with the investigation and getting over involved then he is guilty but that I’m afraid is his personality and his character.

I personally believe that Maddie is till alive i can only pray that the person who took her is generous and realizes that what he or she is doing is wrong!!! im sure that god will watch over Maddie and protect her i think that she just needs all the prayers she can get!! I hope that the family are all ok and i just hope that they do not give up hope we will find who ever did this and i know they will be punished!!! Maddie we all love you and your in my prayers always and forever!! If the person that has her reads this i want you to know that there is still hope and all you have to do is return her to her family you may have some problems or maybe you just want to have a child well im talling you this is not how to do it your going to ruin your life forever you not a bad person you just have some issues you can get help but at the same time dont hurt Maddie she is a great child and you who ever you are wont get in as much trouble as you would if you hurt her plz return her and fess up!!! You can make a difference in her life and in your own!!

steve… ur bein way too hard on lola, it isnt ludicrous to be suspicious about the parents, as alot of the tim its sum1 cloe that is the abuser…or abductor etc… & madeleine obviously wasnt screaming or anything so maybe she knew the person that took her… & she was sleeping between the other 2, so they would have woken up surely, especially wen theres uch a cold bit in the bed coz the person in the middle has gon…so who helped them back to sleep? why didnt maddy scream? why didnt they call the police straight away? why does the dad think to shave & roll his socks down?
so it sint ludacris, its just the way it goes these days…
& as for backing hem? yea right… retards i wouldnt back sum1 who hit their kids coz they wer stessed, id think ‘ur a loser & an abuser, get some help’ & i wudnt back sum1 who decided they cudnt cope with havin kids so they dumped them sumwhere selfishly, so i sure as shit aint gonna back sum retarded ignorant selfish sods who didnt think to use the cresche facilities & have now caused their daughters pain, suffering & most probably death! psshh!!!

So, it’s a kidnapping then. The world seems to have made up it’s mind. Maybe true. I can’t get my head round a few things. She went missing between 21.00-22.00 yet the parents were checking every half an hour. The appartment door and french windows were open when her disppearence was noticed and were unlocked when they left for the dinner, yet informed someone in UK that the shutters had been forced.
I won’t get drawn on their incompetence but there are a few facts that point to the child walking out of the apartment looking for her missing parents.
A kidnapper would close at least one means of entrance behind them. Would probably wake the child causing some kind of commotion. She had been sleeping between her two siblings who were undisturbed.
the parents are lying about the checking intervals and to their relatives re. leaving the doors unlocked but that could be to cover for their stupidity.
Being a father myself, I know that it’s not a matter of whether kids would leave the appartment if they couldn’t find mummy and daddy, it’s a foregone conclusion.
I know it doesn’t help but there’s still a possibility that some kind of accident, possibly motor, has occured and a body turn up somewhere after been taken from the scene. It’s awful to think but shouldn’t be overlooked.

I am spanish and live in Brussels. I have circulated Madeleine’s picture trhough Spain and Belgium. I also put it on my car’s window. I am shocked: who has been so mean to take her?
I am also moved: we are so many around the world who want Madeleine safe and back with her parents !

I pray that this lovely little girl is alive. My sympathy and thoughts go out to the parents but I cant help but feel that the parents have brought it upon themselves, as harsh as it may sound… Who on earth would leave three children in an apartment alone, when babysitting services were offered to them?
When for most it is one of the prime reasons why alot of parents chose to go to that resort, as established GP’s surely they would have more then enough spare change to have the piece of mind knowing their children are safe? I think its rather suspicious, along with the parents reaction. Your 4 year old daughter has been kidnapped and you only make one half emotional appeal on television and even that looks some what strained, going back to the Soham case or little Sarah Payne I can remember the parents begging in absolute despair unable to string a sentence together because they were so distraught. On the other hand this maybe something police have advised them to do.. look strong and “coping.”
The world today has turned into such a vicious place only last year a 3 year old was snatched from the bath in her own home, so why if this is something that happens in our own country would you feel so relaxed and content to leave your children alone abroad?
As for “Robert Murat” I feel this is also something that must be a solid lead for the police as they wouldnt of felt the need to change his status from a witness to a suspect, then to Main Suspect. It seems a bit like Ian Huntley situation wanting to be close enough to know if the connection came close to him and when journalists found it slightly uneasing he wanted to cut down the amount of exposure that he received.
Wherever this little beautiful girl is I pray she is safe and well and brought back to the people who love her most.

It is not the right time now to be looking at punishing the parents. If that is to happen then let it take place after Madeleine is found. Until then, their grief and I’m sure guilt, is enough for them to bear and right now they need support.
I’m sure the parents have been trying to hold it together in the interviews and for their other 2 kids but no doubt they are wrecks in private. You see 2 minutes a day at most of the parents, and to then say they need to look more distraught is stupid. No doubt they must be numb and in shock after 12 days.
Lola - to suggest that they are involved is ludicrous. Your comments are incredibly insensitive and so stupid it’s unbelievable. Best you go watch the Tweenies and keep your reckless comments to yourself. While I would never leave my daughter alone as they did, I’m sure they thought it was safe. Some people are also hesitant to leave their children with strangers, even if they are resort staff. If your children go straight to sleep and don’t wake up at all until 6am (as my daughter has done for the last 2 years) it can be tempting to leave them on their own. For me the risks are more fire/vomiting,choking as opposed to kidnapping. Do you think they would do the same all over? So get over it and get behind them. They made a poor decision and I’m sure they would be the first to admit it.
As for Murat, name as many suspects as necessary until they find Madeleine. They can clear their name but she is only 4 yrs old for heaven’s sake.
