Madeleine McCann: Robert Murat And More Questions
MADELEINE McCann is missing. Still missing.
But today there is news. The daily front-page shots of Madeleine’s traumatised parents are moved further within the papers to make space for the head of Robert Murat.
“MADELEINE BRITISH MAN IS QUIZZED!” says the Mirror’s front-page headline.
Robert Murat
After the speculation the paper delivers a welter of facts. Robert Murat lives with his mum. Robert Murat is in his 30s. Robert Murat lives with his mother in a villa 150 yards from the apartment where Madeleine McCann was snatched.
The Sun (“MADDIE: BRIT QUIZZED”) says Murat lives 100 yards from that McCann apartment. Like the Mirror, the Sun produces a front-page picture of “one-eyed Murat”. The Mail hears that Murat lost his eye in a BMX accident when he was a boy. The Mail says Murat lives 80 yards from Madeleine’s holiday apartment.
Murat is “stocky”. He offered to help the police hunt as a “translator”. He lives in Casa Liliana, with his mum Jenny.
The Suspect
The Sun’s Julie Moult considers the evidence. And delivers a piece entitled “stories of a fantasist”. “He always seemed so eager to get involved in the police investigation,” says the Sun’s woman–on-the-scene. “Robert claimed he had a daughter just like Madeleine and said he felt compelled to do anything he could. But to me he seemed like classic fantasist.”
The Sun introduces Martin Brunt, the crime news correspondent from its sister organ, TV’s Sky news.
He says Murat told him he’d been taken inside the McCanns’ apartment by police.
Sky news correspondent Ian Woods says he asked Murat to help him speak with locals.
“I met him and had a conversation with him. I tried to find out as much as I could about him,” says Woods, who checked out Murat’s details. “They did check out, and I left it at that for the time.”
The Mail’s Neil Sears also spots Murat. In “My encounters with a man ‘who just wanted to help’”, Sears tells Mail readers, “There was something more to the friendly expat who called himself ‘Rob’ than met the eye.”
Murat made Sears “feel slightly uncomfortable”.
But it was the Sunday Mirror’s Lori Cambell who alerted police to Murat’s behaviour, she saw as “creepy”.
Writing Wrongs
So much for investigative journalism. Questions were asked but nothing more was done. Murat is with police because he made a show of himself, because he acted as if working in an official capacity. Even though the Times says Murat was acting as “an official translator”.
So now the man in the chinos, with the glass eye, who lives with him mum and whose estranged wife, from Hockering, near Norwich, tells a neighbour “How could someone do something so terrible to little girl like that?’ is all over the papers.
Is Murat guilty? The papers produce nothing to indicate that he is. But if Murat is involved, look out for the stories of how British journalism cracked the case.
And look out for Madeleine McCann. Still missing…

Mrs McCann told how she desperately screamed her daughter’s name after discovering her missing and knew straight away she’d been abducted.
She told how she and her husband – who’d undergone months of IVF treatment to have their beloved daughter – have been left haunted with guilt for leaving her.
She said: “We’re so desperately sorry. Every hour now I question why I thought that was safe.” She admitted the couple left their children alone every night for a week before Madeleine was taken.
She said: “Maybe it was because it was family friendly, because it felt so safe. That week, we had left them alone while we had dinner.
“There is no way on this planet I would take a risk – no matter how small – with my children. I love her and I’m a totally responsible parent and that’s the only thing that keeps me going.
“You don’t expect a predator to break in and take your daughter out of bed.’’
Mrs McCann said she doesn’t want to return to the family’s home in Rothley, Leics, even if she’s reunited with her daughter because it holds too many painful memories.
** Here is a bit of an interview with Kate….I see she admits leaving the children for a week before she was taken? and then says she would not take a risk with her kids? SHE DID…for a whole week…dont these parents see that and then says she will not return to the family home EVEN if she gets Madeleine back…cause it has too many painful memories? If she has her daughter, why would THEIR home hold the painful memories.
I dont understand these people and like i said…i makes me sick to hear now they found blood wiped away and evidence of a body in that garden….
August 6th, 2007 at 10:16 pm
why did they wait this long to do a complete search of the apartment room where Maddie was? They found blood 3 months after this poor child disappeared?
August 6th, 2007 at 10:13 pm
Traces of Madeleine McCann’s blood have been discovered in the flat where she was last seen, according to Portuguese police sources today.
It’s been reported that attempts were made to wipe away any signs of the blood.
There’s now a growing belief among the police in Portugal that the four-year-old girl may not be found alive.
OH MY!!! I read on the message board about the blood and found this article…who would of had time to wipe away blood? According to the time line there was not much time for someone to grab Madeleine and wipe away blood…the parents or friends would of caught them.
Also going off to read about 2 NEW sniffer dogs being brought in to search garden.
God I pray she is still alive!!
August 6th, 2007 at 10:09 pm
I have been unable to find more on the sniffer dogs….was the blood on the apartment wall in the news also? I was sick when i read part of that Aussie paper saying they think she was murdered in the apartment…
August 6th, 2007 at 10:01 pm
has any body heard any more on the sniffer dogs and there bein evidance of a body being buried in the garden,or the blood on the appartment wall? if any one can help then please do

hiya rachel,i have always said,if u thought u saw anyone that may of looked a little like maddie,u would confront them , wouldnt wait till u got home and then thought bout it for abit befor going to police, because if it was her then they wouldnt be were u seen her, well gone.thats were people go wrong they say they have seen her and then its too late.even if your wrong,at least ur instincts were there.and if u think u seen your friends child with a stranger, and the parents are eating a meal else where,HELLO,you would know something wasnt right.u wouldnt leave it untill you knew she was missing.too many things just dont fit,so many questions unanswered. people say that maddie has been missing too long to still be alive, but a part of me feels so strongly, she is still alive. somebody else said that they think the police keep speaking to RM to keep the press away from the leads they really have, what do think?

Lorraine…
This is a link in an Australian paper
http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117,22195282-401,00.html?from=public_rss
It also states dogs found evidence that a body was buried in the garden. Strange thing is i have not seen it in any news since they ended the search at Murat’s house.
August 6th, 2007 at 1:51 pm
No and to be completely honest with you Lorraine i’d disregard anything you read in the papers - no news is good news and we (the public) don’t really know whats going on. Neither does the Media. The only people who really know what is happening with this investigation are Kate and Gerry McCann and the police involved, and maybe even Murat. I’ll be honest I was the first to point the finger at him when they showed him on the news but how shallow was that? I judged him purely because I thought he looked a bit sketchy, but after watching him on the news, and the lack of evidence against him, and hearing alibis and stories from his family and friends I am beggining to come around to the idea that he is completely innocent and has nothing to do with this case. He has always declared his innocence and people at this stage are becoming very irate and frustrated and making all sorts of accusations. The Mccanns friends for instance saying that they saw him take Maddie. If you saw what you thought was a man running down the road with your friends children, I’m sorry but surely you’d do something about it? I know I would. And the same goes for all of these alleged sightings of Maddie. If someone saw what they were “100% certain was infact Madeleine Mccann” then why the hell didn’t they confront the people or confront Madeleine herself. There is no real reason, the only reason you would not approach someone that looked like Madeleine was if you doubted it was her. I know if I saw someone who looked like Madeleine I would personally rather make a complete fool out of myself in asking someone rather than spending the rest of my life regretting not making that initial move. What is wrong with people? If you see the girl, if you think its her, do something about it! I think Murat was in the beginning a suspect, now though, I think he has at some point agreed to remain a ’suspect’ until further information is at hand as otherwise the Media will print off every story that goes on and whoever has Maddie will be on the run forever. The Media is an amazing way to spread information but with everything, it has its ups and downs. The down being that vital information like where the police are heading to search could cost the girl her life if the Media keep using such stories. I am convinced Murat is just a ploy to con the kidnappers into thinking they are in the clear when in fact the case is closer to home than they realise. I have a really strong feeling that something vital is going to happen this week and the pieces are at some point going to fit together. What are your thoughts on this?
August 6th, 2007 at 11:02 am
rachel i agree with you,one part thinks he did and the other things he didnt, but yeah i think they will keep it on him untill they find something else where, they should do it that way because who eva has her will know what the police are doing and there next move and where they are looking for little maddie, but if she is still alive they cant keep running with her and they will slip up some where, wont they/ some body wrote on another site page said that maddie is dead and that the police are just looking for evidense of this in the appartment of were the mcanns family were staying.first iv heard on this, have u heard anything?
August 6th, 2007 at 10:46 am
If you want my opinion? I think Murat has been formally a ’suspect’ to deter attention from the media. I think that they are using Murat to help the investigation focused on him while they do other research. If they give the media the real information then whoever has got Madeleine will move again. She was seen in Morrocco, they moved her somewhere else, They’ve spotted her in Belgium - if they make a big deal out of that then they’ll scare them off again. And it will continue to bunny hop this way unless they hide all information from the press. I think alot of vital information is being kept under the belt so that they do not scare off the possible kidnappers. Don’t forget there is nothing to say Murat is guilty, he is only a suspect because he got involved in the case - which any normal person would have done had this traumatic event taken place in your home town. I think we are all to quick to throw the blame in this country. I sincerely believe Robert Murat is a vital part of this investigation, I believe he is being kept involved so that they can continue to do other investigations. Any one else agree?

chic.
you have mentioned some of the better reasons someone steels a child. but if you have followed this story you would know that most people have eliminated this. the main theory is shes been taken by a pedophile. so if she was taken by one they dont care if the child is crying for her mum and they have no interest in taking her out anywhere. all they want is a child to sexually abuse. or if the abductor isn’t one themselves, they took her sell her for a very high price to someone else. or even a group of people

Yes it is sad that in this day and age when a child is missing or hurt or killed the parents or other loved ones need to be looked at. Just check the news. Babies are shaken and mistreated, killed, starved, and even sexually abused by parents or boy/girl friends of the parents, husbands/boyfriends have killed their wife and unborn babies. Children are neglected and abused in homes where no one can see what is going on. So in a case like this, with all the odd behavior and inconsistencies(even the police stated that)the parents would/should be looked at and if they find nothing wrong with them, then move on to others. In this day and age, 3 small children should not be left alone, but yes that is over and done with. Also Mom Mccann told us that someone was looking at Madeleine, so you would of thought they would of watched over her more. There are alot of sick people in this world that prey on children. So it is a parent’s responsibility to watch over and keep their children safe(eating in a resturant 100 yards away from your sleeping children in an unlocked apartment in a strange country(we dont know how many nights) is not like eating in your garden at home and is not in the best interest of the children, especially since there were other options.
As far as the DNA on the child in Belgium…I hope it is Madeleine, atlease we will know she is still alive..BUT what will happen now, the paper states the woman was acting strange, and one would think they would go into hiding.
IMO everyone posting here is worried and wants Madeleine to be found alive and safe and soon. Many are praying for her. I dont think they wish bad on the parents, we just cant understand their actions before and after Madeleine went missing…..
August 4th, 2007 at 4:33 pm
I don’t understand why anyone takes a child. I mean I understand when criminals take a kid and want money from the parents but these people never came up with that did they? Other than that, there are cases of emotional reasons but then how can you be with the child if she is not happy because she wants her mom? I don’t get this. You can’t go out with her anywhere because people would recognize her, so there is no way you can actually enjoy the presence of the kid.. how do such people work, I don’t get it.
August 4th, 2007 at 10:45 am
I don’t think it’s about being horrible. I think a lot of people do genuinely want Madeleine to be found and are exploring all avenues. I read somewhere that in eighty percent of children’s disappearances the parents are involved. Fifteen percent involve relatives or friends and only five percent of children go missing because of stangers’ involvement. Given these statistics don’t you think it’s NORMAL for people to at least consider the parents having some involvement? The police would certainly have regarded the parents as suspects right from the start. Or would you have preferred them to say, “No these are nice people. They must be innocent. We don’t want to upset them by casting lots of nasty aspersions.” Unfortunately in cases like these you have to look at the cold, hard facts becuse that’s the only way you’ll find the culprits
August 4th, 2007 at 10:11 am
when you have all stopped ripping apart the parents/friends/anyone else you can over this, maybe you should spare a thought for a little girl, who, whatever has happened is suffering in some way.
sure she shouldn’t have been left alone - when I was a kid my mum and dad would leave me in the car outside shops to nip in, everyone did - if i had been taken would it have been their fault of the fault of the evil person who took me? i am not saying its exactly the same, but that kind of occurrence happened often.
the messages on here are in some parts appalling - suggesting the parents have covered up her accidental death, that someone dining with her parents that night must have been involved - such a sad sad reflection of the world in which we live. the judgements about the actions of the mccanns since madeleine went are absurd - none of us know how we would react in that situation and may i pray to god i never find out. things such as gerry flying to america, surely all to keep momentum in the campaign so that it doesnt just get forgotten. if it was my kid i would do whatever i had to and am damned sure that just sitting around waiting wouldnt be possible.
irrelevant of all of that, there is a 4 year old girl either dead or with people she doesn’t know. where are your thoughts and prayers for her?

Madeleine McCann Update - The hunt for Madeleine McCann has reached “critical” stage and is getting some expert assistance, 89 days after she was snatched in Praia da Luz. Their first order of business will probably include an attempt to try to establish a likely psychological profile of Maddie’s kidnapper. It is their hope that they will provide a significant breakthrough while police attempt to close in on him or her.
Hopes run high that significant developments will emerge as they carry out a painstaking review of the case 89 days after Madeleine was snatched in Praia da Luz.
How come they waited 89 days? Well i hope this helps and they find her soon!!
August 1st, 2007 at 6:29 am
No new news about Madeleine today….only that the McCanns retired before midnight because they will be very busy in the next few days…..

who is Madeleine McCann?
July 30th, 2007 at 7:49 am
as far as I know there are no new publications about this case in Portugal.
The PJ are not saying anything about it. They are continuing their investigations in complete silence. It it the best thing they can do.

At last someone who talks sense! I mean what are the Mccanns supposed to do? Sit back and do nothing? They would be judged for that too. Its amazing that they are doing what they are doing, they are very strong. I would do the same. I say carry on with their wonderful campaign. Keep it high profile. This way they have a much better chance of finding their beautiful girl.
I put a question to cathy the other day and she couldnt answer that one either! I was beginning to think that these forums attracted only weirdos who get their kicks out of making it their business to upset people. I have been thinking and I’m wondering if maybe these people dont really mean what they say, maybe they just like a debate and they know most people would disagree with them so this is their way of having a debate. Or maybe its just all a set up.If they really do think they are right they are the tiniest minority. There will always be a few who are quick to point the finger but luckily the majority of people are not quite so narrow minded.

Under California law, leaving a child age 6 or younger alone in a vehicle is a citable offense.
I am trying to find if there is a LAW about leaving children alone in a hotel room. I know this is California ans the baby in this story died cause dad left him in the car BUT it is a citable offense to just leave them…..
July 26th, 2007 at 5:44 pm
so true Jack…..oh so true.
After reading all the info out there on Madeleiene and her situation…..you have to wonder about alot of things.
Maybe, after she is found(hopefully soon) we will get the answers to some!!
A sad point is when you read about alot of abused and neglected children, it is someone they know.
Are there alot of children missing from this vacation spot? Any new info on that boat?(it said in one article they are looking for hair because they believe they would of cut her hair off?)any new news on Murat or is he old news now?. The friends were so sure he was there. Now it’s the boat. And what is this code of silence dad McCann has with his friends?
Who knows how much is true and how much is made up(another sad situation) One article said was there really a Madeleine?
I just pray that Madeleine is found.
