Madeleine McCann: Robert Murat And More Questions
MADELEINE McCann is missing. Still missing.
But today there is news. The daily front-page shots of Madeleine’s traumatised parents are moved further within the papers to make space for the head of Robert Murat.
“MADELEINE BRITISH MAN IS QUIZZED!” says the Mirror’s front-page headline.

After the speculation the paper delivers a welter of facts. Robert Murat lives with his mum. Robert Murat is in his 30s. Robert Murat lives with his mother in a villa 150 yards from the apartment where Madeleine McCann was snatched.
The Sun (“MADDIE: BRIT QUIZZED”) says Murat lives 100 yards from that McCann apartment. Like the Mirror, the Sun produces a front-page picture of “one-eyed Murat”. The Mail hears that Murat lost his eye in a BMX accident when he was a boy. The Mail says Murat lives 80 yards from Madeleine’s holiday apartment.
Murat is “stocky”. He offered to help the police hunt as a “translator”. He lives in Casa Liliana, with his mum Jenny.
The Suspect
The Sun’s Julie Moult considers the evidence. And delivers a piece entitled “stories of a fantasist”. “He always seemed so eager to get involved in the police investigation,” says the Sun’s woman–on-the-scene. “Robert claimed he had a daughter just like Madeleine and said he felt compelled to do anything he could. But to me he seemed like classic fantasist.”
The Sun introduces Martin Brunt, the crime news correspondent from its sister organ, TV’s Sky news.
He says Murat told him he’d been taken inside the McCanns’ apartment by police.
Sky news correspondent Ian Woods says he asked Murat to help him speak with locals.
“I met him and had a conversation with him. I tried to find out as much as I could about him,” says Woods, who checked out Murat’s details. “They did check out, and I left it at that for the time.”
The Mail’s Neil Sears also spots Murat. In “My encounters with a man ‘who just wanted to help’”, Sears tells Mail readers, “There was something more to the friendly expat who called himself ‘Rob’ than met the eye.”
Murat made Sears “feel slightly uncomfortable”.
But it was the Sunday Mirror’s Lori Cambell who alerted police to Murat’s behaviour, she saw as “creepy”.
Writing Wrongs
So much for investigative journalism. Questions were asked but nothing more was done. Murat is with police because he made a show of himself, because he acted as if working in an official capacity. Even though the Times says Murat was acting as “an official translator”.
So now the man in the chinos, with the glass eye, who lives with him mum and whose estranged wife, from Hockering, near Norwich, tells a neighbour “How could someone do something so terrible to little girl like that?’ is all over the papers.
Is Murat guilty? The papers produce nothing to indicate that he is. But if Murat is involved, look out for the stories of how British journalism cracked the case.
And look out for Madeleine McCann. Still missing…

So this is the mystery british suspect - What a travisty
“A British holidaymaker whose hire car was seized by police hunting for Madeleine McCann yesterday angrily denied any involvement in the case.
Jim Gorrod, 34, a solicitor from Exeter, was on holiday in Praia da Luz on the Algarve with his pregnant wife Charlotte and toddler son when the four-year-old went missing.
The Gorrods, who knew one of the couples on holiday with the McCanns, joined the search for Madeleine in the hours following her disappearance in May.
But three months later, the solicitor found himself under investigation and his Portuguese rental car being impounded for examination.
This led to speculation that a ‘mystery’ Briton might be linked to Madeleine’s disappearance.
But Mrs Gorrod said yesterday: “This is all absolutely ridiculous.”
Her husband is said to have come under suspicion at a car hire office when he returned his vehicle two days after Madeleine went missing.

It is understood staff at the Sixt car hire office at Faro Airport thought it odd that a man on his own was returning a car with a rented baby seat.
The staff’s concerns were farcical and could easily have been checked out, say the couple, because Mr Gorrod had dropped his family and luggage at the entrance to the busy airport before returning the car.
But the hire firm reported its concerns to police and waited to be contacted.
Astonishingly, it took three months for police to ask for the blue Opel Corsa, which had been rented out to at least six more customers since then, to be examined.
Yesterday, Mr Gorrod was revealed to be the mystery British driver being sought for questioning by the Policia Judiciaria.
He immediately issued a statementproclaiming his innocence and insisted a British detective had told him he had ‘nothing to worry about’.

wasnt their photos of some fella in the back ground of most photos that were taken,but dont know who he is,and he was on the beach on some photos were he is actually looking at little maddie?and thanks to star for all the infomation you have given me, ur so helpful,i just dont seem to know were to look.me new on pc,its all new,sorry.xx

star, where you said will have to check bald man in the video. what video are you talking about?
you’d think her dad would still look in his bed if maddy was not in her cot. unless thats just a rumour
i would never leave my kids at such a young age unsupervised though.
they dont look like careless parents though, but thats being judgemental on theirr loooks.
i dont think her dad would be anything to do with her kidnapping as a few people think. though he does seem very calm.
and did maddies parents really go to see david beckham? hows that gonna help them.

no new news on the blood DNA…maybe they will wait to test both samples?

Any new info on the British man of interest?
I did read that Madeleine’s mom said when she went into the room to check the children at 10 she knew something was wrong because of the condition of the room…would that tell you NOT to touch things?
Also read in a post that the dad checked them (at 9) and Maddie was NOT in the bed? just assumed she was in parents bed? Never read that before…is that something the police have said…

I’ve just read the entire thread and I am inclined to agree with all of the comments made. Morals and varying ideas of parenting, I think most people agree that in today’s social ‘climate’ it is a risk to leave ones kids alone/unwatched for any length of time. I am not interested in judging the parents. I am interested in finding out in the way the police are interested what happened to Maddy. So, assuming all are innocent until proven guilty but all are potential suspects, as if one was the police, I would want to establish 1) why did they leave the door open for ‘easy access’ - easy access for whom? What’s so difficult about opening a locked door? 2) Why did no-one in a neighbouring appartment see anything at all? 3) Why does Kate McGann find solace by staring at the ocean? 4) What bad memories do they have of their family home - freudian slip or do the McGanns mean that the house where she grew up would bring them painful memories if they were to go back there? 5) What was the marital state of the McGanns actually like? 6) Have either of them had any extra-marital activity? This is absolutely relevant. 7) How many times had they left the kids in the room with the door-unlocked? If I was a detective i would base investigations on the premise that the McGanns could be guilty of something if not everything. And my hunch is that Gerry was having an affair and Maddy saw. That’s why she had to disappear for a while…

lorraine…..read that they would have results this week. They also sent the bit of blood they found on the drape. Maybe they will wait to test that one too? Not sure

kate mccann has been bugged by portuguese police so much that she has spilled some ‘bombshell’ new evidence. that evidence hasnt been published in the papers has it? any rumours?
& also WHY did kate get hold of that teddy. she knew it had been moved! maybe she wasnt thinking at the time. but this whole thing would probably be all over if she wouldnt of moved it! they could of had tests done on the toy.

may be a stupid question but still.
i saw a comment back in about may saying that apparently robert morrat hired a car. well if thats what got him somewhere the night maddie was snatched, and if he had taken maddie, wouldnt police of done tests in the hire car for traces of maddie?

things are starting to come about now isnt it,u just dont know what is the truth and whats not. its so desturbing in it, if u knew that ur daughters teddy had been taken off her and put out of reach,and u knewshe had it when u put her to bed,HELLO, that would be the first thing u would tell the police WOULDNT YOU? the police may have been able to get something from it. things just dont seem right do they,and whilst all this is going on,poor little maddie is still missing,it hurts so much knowing that se is out their some where,and us not knowing wether she is alive and scarred. thankyou for the info…

the police make an announcement that they think Maddy is dead. so her loving daddy says that if it she is, well shes ‘in a better place’. So you can neglect your children, and if one dies well it doesnt matter because their better off dead. With Mr McCann it seems like a case of ‘open mouth, insert foot’. but hes got to believe that hasn’t he?, its the only way he can face the simple fact that if they were taking proper care of their kids, they’d all 5 be at home with their family. instead one child is probably dead and facing they face losing the others.

According to Kate…Madeleine’s fav toy(that cat she carries around) was taken from Madeleine and put out of her reach by the kidnapper. Well…she has carried this around from day one so any trace of a stranger is gone. Not sure when the McCanns told anyone about this…just appearing in the news now?….just seems they sorta make up things as we go along…
If the cat toy was moved…why did she touch it?

lorraine…last i read about the DNA from the blood in the apartment…they said could take up to 2 weeks, BUT high profile cases it could just take 48 hours…Being the weekend, maybe they will not release it until next week.
Also still waiting on the man that was shot in the head ref the missing girl from Switzerland(saw in one article they have ruled out this has any connection to Madeleine…who knows?) and this new British man of interest, they were looking at the car he rented in Portugal but i think 5 people have used it since. Something about he came over the same time the Mccanns did for Holiday and went back soon after Madeleine went missing. Not sure why he is being looked at.
