Madeleine McCann: Blown Out Of All Proportion
MADELEINE McCann is on the beach at Praia da Luz. Or at least her likeness is.
As the Mail reports, Chris Lennox and Les Harley, have driven 2,200 miles from Scotland. They have brought along a 800 sq ft giant inflatable billboard appealing for Madeleine’s safe return.
The Mail doesn’t say anything about Chris Lennox and Les Harle nor why they should choose to display Madeleine’s image in such a fashion. Is this not a little unusual, creepy even?
At least the BBC bothers to speak with campaigners. It hears Mr Lennox tell us: “My heartstrings have been pulled on this and I want to help. I have a family with small kids and my wife has been following this from day one. She told me to come out here and do what I could. I am clearly here to help raise awareness.”
Such is the way of public spectacles, like the Madeleine McCann mystery, that many feel involved. They want to do their bit. But what can they do? Put themselves in the public eye? Make a huge inflatable and show the world how much they care?
Lennox and Hale plan to tour the area with their massive inflatable sign. And surely it will keep Madeleine’s name in the public eye. People will be reminded that Madeleine McCann has gone missing. Parents on holiday will be made aware that children can be taken. They will anxiously hug their children closer. And, if they’ve read some of the over the top media coverage, they will worry over holidaying in Portugal.
Meanwhile, back in the UK, Sun readers can go online and watch a video of Madeleine. It’s called “Maddie on Mobile”. The Mail has stills of Madeleine McCann at the airport, excitedly climbing the airplane’s steps.
The two films, one of 13 seconds and another of nine, were taken on camera phones. “Somewhere in the background there’s even the sound of her voice,” says the Mail. Ghouls will love it.
And they can see it on the Sun’s website. Right after an advert for a film called Paradise Lost, featuring lot of babes in bikinis, and before “Sex in the City, a video showing a couple shagging on a London rooftop, there’s Madeleine on the airport shuttle bus.
So we look. But what does it teach us? Only that the media owns the story of Madeleine McCann. And that she is just another form of entertainment to pass the time before the next show…

it all started with a big mistake
really u should have been enjoying cake
you got all over the news
maybe it was possible abuse
we hear about a beautifull little girl
life turnt into a swirl
Everyone has doubts
about ur whereabouts
people are quick to point the finger
and robert murat was quick to linger
helping them but not really helping them at all
maybe he did it or maybe his just a fool
know one really knows
upon all our lows
mummy wore a yellow ribbon in her hair
and held onto your teddy bear
Daddy held most the speeches
people were gathering like leeches
tears roll down their eyes
they dont want say goodbye
The nations concerned
there stomachs churned
people point the blame
but ur parents have no need to hold any shame
whoever took you should be punished
A hoax caller
A letter saying u r now in heaven
none of this is any longer believen
as we await some news of your appaearence
u may be suffering interference
we just want let you know we are all holding hopes for u maddie
aswell as Mummy and Daddy

Feeling guilty about something Janice?
I didn’t say ALL parents. I said many … and that is a true fact. Look at countries like India or Pakistan as a small example where girls are sold into prostitution. Look at ‘honor’ killings. Look at China and it’s one child policy where live baby girls are left on the side of the road to die, buried in the hot sun or simply aborted.
There are excellent parents all over the world and they are to be commended. Just because these are white collar high profile people doesn’t make them innocent.

I spy another argument going on in here

Thats funny janet- I agree!

The mothers a scouser, so what more do you expect? I hope they find the kid and then the Social Services can take her and the other kids away again - and please, put that fucking teddy bear away, it’s as mawkish and cliched as the Liverpudlian obsession with laying flowers at every opportunity.

Hi Janet. No I’m not Anourmouse. I meant entertaining as in he really has everybody up in arms with his/her comments. Entertainment comes in many forms and he/she seems to find this tragic situation to be one. My apologies if it offended you

Rough diamond, could you point out to us where this entertaining post is from anourmouse please ? I must have missed that one. Unless of course, you are anourmouse..i suppose that would explain it.Anourmouse is about as entertaining as having a brick dropped on your foot.

I think the parents did it, and now they are cashing in big time.

What an interested lot of reading this all was. As much as I feel for little Madeleine and hope she is found safe, I don’t think all this publicity will get her back. She’s gone I hate to say, gone as in no longer living. I also agree - why are they getting so much publicity … as if she is the only child ever to go missing in the history of the universe.
Anourmouse … you’re a very entertaining person and sadly, many a parent will happily sell or kill their child for personal gain of whatever twisted kind they enjoy.
We live in a very very sick world people.
June 11th, 2007 at 10:28 pm
the mccans know somthing about her disappearence, this boring news story will soon get interesting when a newspaper finally has the balls to publish what half the nation is thinking
June 10th, 2007 at 6:26 pm
now they are backing away from the public light…
June 8th, 2007 at 8:06 am
The McCann’s should be thankful that there is absolutely nothing else at all of news worthiness happening on the planet at the moment, hence their ability to be on EVERY news bulletin.
I hope the kid turns up soon just so we don’t have to endure any more of their ceaseless campaign.

Anourmouse - if you haven’t already checked it out, try the thread, Madeleine McCann: Crimewatch And Just Another Day. Might be more happening over there

hi ALL, im back and your spelling is appauling!!!!!!!
June 7th, 2007 at 1:44 pm
He came out of church laughing and shaking hands with the crowd outside…
Simple thing is you should be able to leave your children alone to play in a garden or sleep upstairs in bed but its not something that can be done in todays society thanks to peodo’s and child traffickers.
The LAW should be changed with these filthy perverts!
June 7th, 2007 at 1:25 pm
HE IS NOT SMIRKING OR LAUGHING, HE IS TRYING TO STAY STRONG FOR KATE AND THE TWINS. THEY THOUGHT IT WAS SAFE TO LEVE THE CHILDREN ON MAY 3RD OR THEY WOULD NEVER HAVE LEFT THEM. EVERYONE SHOULD JUST TRY AND CONCENTRATE ON FINDING MADDIE AND HELPING THEM INSTEAD OF SAYING NAST COMMENTS ABOUT THEM. FRANCES THEY WILL BE ABLE TO FOGET IT AND MOVE ON WITH THEIR LIFE AS SOON AS MADDIE IS HOME.I BELEIVE SHE WILL COME HOME SOON. STAY POSITIVE GERRY AND KATE XXX

I feel sorry in my heart for these people I really do but I have to agree that things are going a little to far.
In my town people have left flowers that are now dead and teddys and pictures of Madeline and its to much.
If they were not left alone this would never have happened..
Kids have gone missing since but nobody highlights them…
Private visits to the pope.. private jets.. free hotels… ITS TO MUCH.
The more profile on madeline the more the kidnappers will go underground and she wont be seen again or worse.
But petty comments left on here is just childish., they have to live with the fact they were out drinking and eating while there 3 children lay alone sleeping, and they may never see there child again because of it.
One thing does bug me.. why is the father always smirking and laughing?
June 7th, 2007 at 10:34 am
I rekon that this is all a bit too much because they r making a big fuss of it and the person who has got her, unless she is dead, they arnt wanting to give her back becoz there is too much fuss being made!
i kno she needs to be found be it is true! But we want maddie home!!

“Maybe Gary should record a cover of that Smiths’ classic “Pretty Girls Make Graves” to fill the coffers of the McCann’s ‘contingency’ fund?”
====================================================
Just come out of school then had you son when you treated us to those samples of your sparkling wit?
Your first “joke” is crude, unnecessary, and makes no useful point.
Your second attempt is presumably to let us know that you are very cynical about the ‘contingency fund’.
Well, as it happens, I too am cynical about the fund, and not just the fund by the way. There are aspects of the Madeleine affair which make me uncomfortable, and I believe there is a lot more to come out yet.
However, if that was indeed your intention, you could, with a bit of thought, have made your point a lot more forcibly, less crudely, yet still in a humorous vein if you had wanted to.
Of course, that may not have been your intention. You may simply have just wanted to shock certain people on here just for the hell of it - just to make them throw up their hands in horror and despair.
Well, most of the people on this site aren’t here for a laugh. Many of them are hard-boiled, hard-nosed forum veterans, and they are serious about what they say - whichever side of the fence they are on regarding Madeleine, her parents, the fund, et al. You’re going to have to try a lot harder if you want to make them sit up and take notice of you.
Maybe you will want to try to hone your skills a little in the use of the English language before you post again?
NOT lol - GROSS!

SOME PEOPLE ARE ABSOLUTLY DISGUSTING, I CANT BELIVE SOME PEOPLE WOULD LAUGH AT SOMEONE ELSE’S MISERY. KATE AND GERRY MC CANN ARE GOOD PEOPLE, DO YOU HONESTLY THINK THEY WOULD HAVE LEFT THEIR CHILDREN IF THEY THOUGHT THEY WOULD COME TO ANY HARM? THEY LEFT THEM BECAUSE THEY THOUGHT THEY WOULD BE SAFE. PEOPLE WHO MAKE STUPID COMMENTS LIKE - THEY SHOULD’NT HAVE LEFT THEIR CHILDREN ON THEIR OWN ARE DISGUSTING. YOU SHOULD BE DOING WHATEVER YOU CAN TO HELP GERRY AND KATE BRING BACK THEIR DAUGHTER INSTEAD OF MAKING HORRIBLE REMARKS. KEEP THINKING POSITIVE KATE AND GERRY AS MADELEINE WILL SOON BE HOME SAFE WITH YOU THEN YOU CAN FOGET THIS DREADFUL NIGHTMARE. X X X

You’re obviously a cold, heartless guy Ross, and whats more you are generalising from your own experience. Just because you don’t care about Madeleine, and this story, doesn’t mean everyone else feels the same. There is also no need to swear - its doesn’t add anything to what you’ve got to say. Go and be bitter and twisted somewhere else.
Plus, if you are so uninterested in this case then why keep going on and on about it ? You must have half a dozen posts already on the varoius message boards about how little this story interests you ?
June 4th, 2007 at 8:17 pm
2bh, this really pisses me off. I think someones probably already said it, but i rushed down here(scrolled) to write it. So many kids go missing all the time. Many children probably went missing the exact same day as this kid. Suddenly because she’s “cute” its been blown out of f****** proportion, i mean come on - Madeleine day? WTF. The POPE is giving his blessings and praying for her, their launching some ridiCulous award, sorry but it really takes the piss and it sickens me. Yeah id love them to find their kid, but what about all the other children in the world snatched and no one gives a damn! What about all the other important things going on in the world, My life does not stop because of this kids disappearance, if a terrorists strike, it does, if the world explodes it does! That i care about!
Yes we hope you find your kid, but the sob story is pissing me off. When you find her, tell me i’ll breathe a ridIcuLous sigh of relief while thousands more kids have gone missing, and many more died or murdered and not been reported to all the f******* space your story is taking up in the papers.
I’m done.

There are far more newsworthy items in the world than this. Nothing has essentially happened in a month, and yet I still see the McCanns on the front page of every newspaper clutching their “Cuddle Cat” pathetically. I’m sorry for their loss, I really am, but their little girl has gone. The police haven’t got a clue. It’ll be like Ben Needham all over again. Obsessive media coverage, audiences with the Pope, even a “Madeleine Day” concert which I heard about yesterday, won’t bring her back.
