Madeleine McCann: The Spanish Prisoner
PAULO Reis writes from Portugal on Madeleine McCann and the Spanish hoax:
Antonio Toscano, the alleged “investigative journalist” who claimed to know the name of Madeleine’s abductor is an hoaxer who introduced himself as an expert in satanic cults in several interviews with Spanish newspapers an TV.
António Toscano was quoted, last week, by the Spanish daily “El Mundo”, saying that he his an “expert in missing children cases”. And yesterday, talking to a Portuguese newspaper, he claimed that his track record his so good that he “found 14 of the 15 missing children cases that he investigated”, during the last years.
Many Portuguese and British newspapers quoted the story published by “El Mundo”, but some of them wrote that Mr. António Toscano was a journalist working with the Spanish daily or a collaborator of that daily.
“Gazeta Digital” talked with Mr. Rafael Moiano, a journalist from “El Mundo” and he confirmed that Mr. Toscano was interviewed and the story was published last week, but denied any link between Mr Toscano and the newspaper: “Mr. Toscano is not a collaborator of ‘El Mundo’, we just published a story, last week, about its investigations.”
Any other journalists of questionable quality in Portugal?

I think CEOP and INTERPOL have a moral obligation to clean up the corrupt government in Portugal….their job is to protect the rights of children….sounds like Portugal is ran by a bunch of male animals who are in bed with the pedephile rings..otherwise Toscano’s accusations and evidence would have put those males in jail for a long time……..a real MAN would never treat a child like they do…..shame on Portugal for sheilding these animals….money makes man lose his selfrespect and respect for others….may all those dogs burn in hell!!

Bernard Alapetite (a.k.a. “El Francés”) to Gazeta Digital:”I was in Portugal for the last time in 1977”
“I just came back from holidays and I think those informations and accusations are ridicule. I don’t know who you are. I’ll just tell you that I was in Portugal, for the last time, in 1977” – This is a full translation from the reply that Bernard Alapetite, the man accused by Spanish “investigative journalist” Antonio Toscano of being the kidnapper of Madeleine McCann, sent to Gazeta Digital, after we asked him a few questions about Toscano’s accusations”
(…)
“There is another area where Mr. Bernard Alapetite had an “interesting” activity: the political field. He was one of the collaborators of “Gaie France Magazine”, an extreme-right homosexual publication”
(…)
“Another extreme-right publication where Mr. Alapetite wrote was “Defense de L’Occidente”. In one of its editions of 1976, his name appears with other well known extreme-right politicians, like the Spanish José Antonio Primo de Rivera and the Holocaust negacionist René Faurisson.”

Portugal rocked by child abuse scandal
Giles Tremlett
Sunday November 21, 2004
The Observer
It has already been billed as Portugal’s trial of the century, a child abuse case involving a state-run orphanage as well as TV personalities and diplomats that has horrified the nation.
The Casa Pia affair, which has shaken the very foundations of the Portuguese state, finally goes to trial on Thursday. Former presidents have been accused of turning a blind eye to complaints about systematic abuse over more than a decade, while prosecutors have denied that President Jorge Sampaio was under investigation.
A former minister and spokesman for the opposition Socialist party, Paulo Pedroso, was one of those arrested, though he was later freed without charges after spending four and a half months on remand.
Carlos Cruz, 63, Portugal’s most famous media personality, will be the star defendant, facing five charges of sexually abusing minors and one of homosexual intercourse with an adolescent.
Cruz, married to a model 34 years his junior and a father of two, has vigorously denied any involvement in a child prostitution ring that is said to have involved as many as 100 orphanage boys.
He is alleged to have been one of the clients of an employee at the Casa Pia, which looks after 4,000 children in 10 orphanages and schools, who ran a male child prostitution network.
His lawyer, Antonio Serra Lopes, said he would use Cruz’s phone bills and mobile phone tracking records to show that his client was nowhere near the house in the eastern city of Elvas where the child abuse took place.
Also on trial are a prominent lawyer, a former ambassador, a marine archaeologist and a former senior administrator in Casa Pia.
The scandal broke in September 2002 when the mother of one alleged victim, known as Joel, complained of abuse by staff at a Casa Pia house.
However, a predecessor of Sampaio as president, General Ramalho Eanes, was revealed recently to have been aware of allegations of child prostitution rackets in the homes at the time.
In the intervening 20 years the original complaints lodged with the police seem to have been shelved or gone missing.

Paulo, from reading many of these posts you must think the British and Americans are a bunch of lunatics.
I think the main problem is the lack of information from the PJ, which we understand to be down to portuguese law.
This lack of information seems to make people assume that there is no information to be given. The snippets that we do get given seem so wholly unrelated that we again are forced to make assumptions that the PJ are not following a specific investigation, just that they are pursuing absolutely anything.
This, together with the bits of information about organised paedophilia sends a worrying message to people reading.
Most of us like to believe, and hope, that the PJ are doing all that they cn to find madeleine. Even if that means keeping the public completely in the dark about the investigation (which sin;t necessarily a bad thing unless there is a need to appeal for information).
Paulo, what is your opinion on the handling of the investigation so far, from a portuguese point of view? Are the police receivng a lot of criticism from the portuguese as well?
All the links you added don’t really provide evidence that Toscano is a hoaxer. Okay there are a couple of inconsistencies in his stories, but this could be easily explained as tabloids rephrasing what he has said.

The bottom line is Portugal is know as a KIDNAPPING/ CHILD PORNOGRAPHY HUB. You can not argue with statistics or facts. Because Madeleine went missing, the rest of the world is starting to see what really goes on there. You can defend your country of Portugal all you want, but you can not argue the truth of your corrupt police. It is shame and I too support the boycott. Look at what happpened to Natalie Holloway… The US boycotted and Aruba is hurting. To verify the corruption in Portugal, please log onto links below:

Jan,
There is an international organization that is in charge of this kind of situation: Interpol. After the first report of Mrs Mari Olli reached British Police, Interpol’s office in Morocco was imediatly alerted and started to act. But the only thing they can do is ask for the cooperation of local authorities. It is just like if a mexican girl was abducted in USA.
Mexican police could send liaison officers, to follow the investigation, but Mexican police officers can’t investigate in USA territory.. That’s for the USA FBI and police, The sane happens with Morocco…

Paulo,
Thank you for the posts and some clarification on the hisotry of Madeleine MCcanns case in your country.
I stand by my comment that any country who does not do all they can to find an abducted child visiting from another country should be boycot! Hit them in their pockets!!!! If the Portugese police (not literal, but proper) have done all they can to find Madeleine, then you should not be so offended by my suggestion to boycot countries who drag their feet. Imagine your family on holiday in the United States. what if someone abducted your child? Wouldn’t you expect the police to do everything possible to find your child? Wouldn’t you expect a little more as a visitor in my country. As an American I would expect that for you.
There should be guidelines with protocols and timelines in place in every country for situations like these. There should also be a uniform code of law which all countries MUST follow. Perhaps something like the Hague Convention on International Child Abduction. Why would a situation like this be less important than an international custody battle?
I’m American, born and raised. Can’t you tell by my poor grammer, or is it grammar, and poor spelling?
The world really needs to do better for the children……

Jennifer:
Thank you for your kind words. It’s 05:57 am and I’m still typing in my computer, to finish three more post, about Mr. António Toscano. I published laready three. Here it is the second post:
Mr. António Toscano most acclaimed case: The “paedophile network” of Bar Arny, in Valencia, 1996
The “investigative journalist” and expert in “missing children” that claimed a rate of success of 93,4 per cent (14 cases solved in a total of 15…) gave a interview to Virginia Lopez (*), from the Spanish daily “El Mundo”, last week. Mr Toscano revealed to the journalist that the description of the main suspect, issued to the Press by Polícia Judiciária on May 25, “had a name ans surname” and he knew that man. “According to his investigation, the suspected abductor of Madeleine, seen in the city of Seville, one week before her disappearance, told that he was going to Algarve, to visit some friends”, wrote “El Mundo”.
The alleged abductor and the witness that saw him in Seville (apparently, also the source of Mr. Antonio Toscano) “meet when they were both regular clients of Bar Arny (or Arnie)– the operational base of a network of child prostitution, uncovered in 1995. “A few well known people were accused” of being part of the network “but nobody went to jail”, writes “El Mundo”.
Mr Toscano claimed to have uncovered that pedophile network. But nobody went to jail “because most witnesses, including nº 1 witness, retracted from their accusations, and almost all of the 48 men accused were acquitted”, according to on line edition of ABC Spanish newspaper.” On 2005, The main witness, Mr. José António B, was sentenced to 15 years of jail, for the murder of a 72 years old man, who hired him to have sexual relations”., according to the same source.
Mr. António Toscano took the case to the Spanish Police, after he said he was threatened and beaten by members of the pedophile network. The case was dismissed, by courts in the cities of Valencia and Castelló, as groundless, and whitout evidence to support it. Mr Toscano didn’t give up and appealed to Spanish Supreme Court, “Audiência Nacional”. On March 4, 2005, Spanish Supreme Court rejected the appeal, based on a report of Policía Judicial (Spanish CID) of Castelló, who had investigated the complains about the existence of a child prostitution ring that “was responsible for kidnapings and murders of children”, denounced by António Toscano. “The Police investigation dind’t found any evidence of the existence of any organized network of that kind” considered the Spanish Supreme Court, according to a newspaer of Valencia, “Levante – El Mercantil Valenciano”.
(To be continued)
(*) Mr Rafael Moyano, a journalist from “El Mundo”, sent me a copy of the story they published, by email, but I couldn’t find it in the Web. I emailed him, asking to send me the link or, if the story no more available online, to give me the indication about exactly when was it published: on June 8th or June 9th, and I’m waiting for his reply. I’ll post the full text of “El Mundo”, next to this post.

I do not know if he is a hoaxer or not. I trust my most reliable portugese journalist
Paulo will dig for the facts. Perhaps we should consider that this man did not go to the police as he may know that the police or affiliates of the government may be involved or something along those lines and he thought it best to try and get it out in the public so it is pursued???? Just a thought I really have no idea I just hope the girl is returned home and or the parents get closure.

To: Mr. Editor,
Thank you for quoting me and reproducing my stories on your page. Sorry that small misunderstanding, few coments ago…
Gail: There is a lack of knowledge (wich is normal) about our so-called secrecy law. I’m writing a post about it. After reading it, you will se that there is no diference between our law and British Law, in waht concerns ongoing Police investigations and cases that are already in the Judicial system (And know the British Law, I studied at the Law Faculty, but I didn’t finished it)
But as the editor of this page, wrote, “red-top Britsh press (…) have hijacked this story.” And the “smoke grenades” they throw, when they run out of “bullets” (or news…), are harmless, but people cant see through it…

Ok. sorry. It’s because Mr. Antonio Toscano is Spanish, not Portuguese, and he - as far as I know - never has been in Portugal. In fact, he asked Portuguese Police to pay him expenses and stay, to come to Portugal, and reveal the name of Medeleine’s abductor! I’ll try pos post those news as soon as I can.
Clarence Mitchell, adviser of McCann’s family, spoke with Mr Antonio Toscano and she is quoted by El Mundo (*) as saying that if “Mr Toscano wanted to help McCann family, than he should go to the Portuguese Police and give the name of the abductor”
Best regards,
Paulo Reis

(*) . El Mundo doesn’t have the story about mr Antonio Toscano on line..- Curious, right? I talked with Rafel Moyano, journalist of El Mundo and he sent me an email with the full story. I asked him again for the link where the story is, as I can’t find it, at “El mundo” online.. I did it this morning, around 10:00 am. Last email I sent, was at 13:33. No ansewr, until now..

The portuguese police have done everything they can
Thye have exhausted all avenues of enquiry or so it seems
But we never know due to the secrecy laws that the portuguese police have to follow
I think that a lot of people are lashing out at anyone becuase this story like so many other child misdoings is so upsetting and heartrenching that people are getting carried away on their emotions
Would it not be that if b some miracle the potuguese police found Madeeline and returned back to her parents tomorrow - Then all of the sudden , the Portuguese police would be the best in the world . I think people need to calm down and step back , and then start to comment .
I am writing this because I have been guilty of saying things that more than likely I said due to huge surge of upset and emotion that I have felt regarding this story - But now , Just now , All I want is for everyone to stop and just hope that Madeleine along with all the other poor poor innocent children are found and live their lives as normal as possible after such an unthinkable thing such as being snatched from your parents and I hate to say this but the most wicked of things done to you .
These children must be so hurt , confused , wondering why and ho this has happened to them , when before - All they understood and grew up with was love and protection from their parents - I hope i am making sense - It is just that this story has made us all realise just what a hurtfull and wicked world we all live in now - Lets just cling to the fact that there are good and honest people who live in this world that would rather hurt themselves than someone else . It is just dificult to think like that at the moment - GOD BLESS ALL THE MISSING LITTLE CHILDREN _ GOD GIVE THEM THE STRENGHT THAT THEY NEED _ AND MAY THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE THEM ROT IN HELL

Jan,
Can I help to clarify some of your questions?
I published, at my page
(Gazeta Digital - http://gazetadigital.blogspot.com)
a copy of the report the Norwegian social worker gave to Katy Peters from Scotland Yard, after Spanish Police told her to contact British or Portuguese Police. Mrs Mari Olli left a small town in Morocco, where she was on holidays, with her husband, on May 9 – 6 days after Madeleine was kidnapped.
She had no TV, there she saw no news at all. Only when she arrived in Spain, where she live, she saw Madeleine’s face in TV. So, she called Spanish Police, on May 10, Spanish Police told her to call British or Portuguese Police.
She called Scotland Yard, gave her statement and, later, send Scotland Yard an email – she gave me a copy of that email. So, Portuguese and British Police only knew about the possible sighting of Madeleine in Morocco on May 10!! They informed Interpol’s office in Morocco, and they asked police and authorities in Morocco, to investigate. As you know, neither British Police nor Portuguese Police can go to Morocco and start an investigation, it’s a foreign and sovereign country!
Mr. Mari Olli was questioned, again, a few days after her initial statement, by British and Portuguese Police. No police force can go to another country substitute the local Police. Requests must be made through liaison officers from Interpol office, in Morocco.
About the posters, Jan, I remember the Soham murder, I saw the many reports in Sky News and I am a daily reader of most British Press on line. I don’t remember seeing posters of the two girls put on places where British law forbidden the placing of posters.
What happened in Lisbon airport was not what some British Press wrote – and I know Airport Authority and Portuguese Police are planning to make public, soon, the surveillance videos, to prove that there was no gun-toting police arresting McCann’s relatives, just a polite and reasonable questioning, because they were doing something that was not authorized.
What would British Police do if I went to Gatwick and start to put posters from Rui Pedro (a Portuguese 12 years old boy that disappeared more than ten years ago) in the walls, because pictures found by British Police in a paedophile computer showed the face of a naked boy, very, very similar to Rui Pedro? They will, obviously, asked me to stop, because I can’t do that, right?
We, Portuguese people arecciate your kind incitement to a boycott to Portugal. The fact that Portuguese Government sent to Algarve, in the 48 hours following Madeleine disappearance, 10 PER CENT OF ALL OUR CID INSPECTORS (There are 2.200 CID inspectors, in Portugal, and 200 were sent to Algarve to help in the search of Madeleine) doesn’ matter, right? They are not the “efficient” british Police, so even if tha all 2.200 hundred were there, they could’n do a better job than 2 or three British Police officers…
Have you ever heard of Alfred Rosenberg? Your grandfather fought in a war because these kind of ideas - the superior quality of a people, above other people….
Thank you very much for your kindness and sympathy. But next time, before making comments like the above, please read some newspapers. If you did it, you should know that “social worker who is convinced she saw Madeleine” has been questioned BY KATY PETERS, FROM SCOTLAND YARD, ON MAY 10!!

Mr Tom:
Some facts and evidence that Mr Antonio Toscano is an hoaxer:

PS: You have a good point, in your comment: if he knew the name of Madeleine’s kidnaper, and if he was an honest man, he would go to the POlice, give all the information he had, and keep silent, to not jeopardize tha investigation, and allow Police to retrive Madeleine from the abductor(s). So, why did he gave an interview to Spanish newspaper “El Mundo”, telling everybody that he knew the name of Madeleien’s abductor, without revealing it to police?

PS - About the question the editor of this site has made (”Anyone else pretending to be a journalist in Portugal?”), are insinuating that I’m not a journalist? because Mr. António Toscano lives and “works” (if you can use that word..) in Valencia, Spain. So, to whom are you refering, on that question?
June 10th, 2007 at 8:14 pm
True Tom. I have more simple questions, some that has gone unanswered for weeks….
WHY hasn’t the social worker who is convinced she saw Madeleine been questioned by the Portugese Police yet?
WHY has it taken everyone this long to get to Morocco?
WHY aren’t the McCanns allowed to post posters at the airport in Portugal? Airports are main arteries to other destinations…they’re main arteries to the world.
WHY aren’t travelers from Europe, who make up the majority of the tourist in Portugal avoiding Portugal if the Portugese government wont do EVERYHITNG they can to help?
June 10th, 2007 at 7:14 pm
What are your reasons to think that Antonio Toscano is an hoaxer?
Where’s the evidence for that? All i now about him is that he works as an independent journalist in spain, isnt it? What i dont understand is why is the name of the possible abductor not published by him until now? If the stroy is true it could be the key to free madeleine.
