ALL that was missing from the Princess Diana Concert was an appearance from the eponymous star of the show.
Diana preferred to watch the celebration of her life and death on the telly at her retreat on the sixth floor of Harvey Nichols, a far better view than that afforded by the cheap seats to the rear of Wembley stadium. And blessedly equipped with a mute button to deal with the over-exposed Ricky Gervais, who brilliantly proved that observational comedy and funeral rock are uneasy bedfellows.
But the Express has eyes only for the Royal Box. Amid a sea of uniformly white faces, sit Prince William and Harry, known in impresario circles and at the BBC as The Two Princes.
To Harry’s right hand is Chelsy Davy, to his left is his brother. William is not with a significant other.
But there one row back and slightly off centre is Kate Middleton. “Wills and Kate so in love at tribute concert,” says the Express. If madly in love means sitting ten seats apart then this is very much the real thing. “THRONE APART,” says the Mirror.
Of course all eyes are on William and who cannot forgive he and his lover trying to dampen the fires of marriage speculation by playing it cool. The Express zooms in on William. William gestures at Kate. And 63,000 people execute a Mexican wave. As we say, all eyes are on William.
This is William in “BOOGIE ONE-DERLAND” (Sun). “I WANT YOU BACK,” says the Sun. “Kate sings Take That lyric after 12:30am Wills tryst.”
The Sun watches various cars and lackeys come and go and hears a “witness” say: “It was clear Kate and Williams had put together a plan to that the meeting could be kept a secret.”
Or not…

Diana was a naive girl living in the days when aristocrats had to marry whom they were told. You see it was what they had to do. What Diana did was in a way put that myth to sleep. Royalty now, seem to meet and marry those they love, and good on them. Diana should have taken the divorce route to set herself free. She didn’t want a divorce, wonder why. She put herself through an awful lot of heartache instead and kept company with unsavory types. Still think she was bumped off in the tunnel when her driver was blinded by a flash of light. But, who did it. Can’t undo the past. Diana was a tragic figure. She didn’t do anything wrong to anyone either. Sorry she didn’t have a life partner though, a man who really loved her. We would all have liked to have seen that happen.

Right on Anonymous he was a hero. in the true sense of the word. But I think its politically incorrect to say so.
Blathering on about Nelson Mandela as a hero makes me ill when you couldn’t possibly account for the numbers of dead he is responsible for. A leader of a terrorist organization, to support him we might as well support the London bombers and make them Prime Ministers and Presidents as well.
I loved the Princess for all she did, and the glamour she brought to our lives. No one expected her to be smart, clever, intelligent. There is no one like her anymore. Safrican was right to say she was our ages’ Evita adored by many and sneered at by others.

I cannot remember why Marian, in fact its an age since he was released. I thought it was for something political, but the only Nelson for me has ever been Horatio
July 3rd, 2007 at 5:35 pm
Why was Comrade Nelson sent to jail in the first place? Does anyone even remember, what this adored human being did wrong. Or was it Diana who perpetrated the Church Street massacre?
July 3rd, 2007 at 1:30 pm
Absolutely Marian. To be involved in charity work is a two way stretch, it helps those in need, but the helper also gains a tremendous amount from it. Not in a selfish way, but in a way that enhances the soul and takes away vanity and just makes you realise that whatever rubbish lilfe throws at you, it’s still precious and worth holding onto every second of it. All the time we worry about silly things in life, the things that really matter get forgotten, and being involved with those with a different story to your own, is a wonderful way to keep focused and grounded. Yes Safrican, the “human condition” can be unpleasant, and I have met and betrayed by some people who would be better off on an island on their own somewhere. However, for all that, through life I have also been fortunate to find love, honesty, compassion and help from friends and wonderful family, so it’s best not to get cynical about the state of the world and the people inhabiting it. By and large, its still a wonderful planet, full of wonderment and variety so I consider I am lucky to be part of it and hope that my children keep the same hope in their future. I suggest those more cynical ones on this site, read “desiderata”, that says it all really!

A week after Diana died I think the world lost one of its true Queen of Hearts , Mother Teresa. Her legacy still lives on quietly getting on with things

It should be considerd that the majority of people don’t have the inclination to speak shit to people they don’t know, like we do. Most Diana fans would call us sad.
That she was popular is no question - her funeral was on par with that of Eva Peron - who like her was also ridiculed and disliked by some. That is an unfortunate human condition. The only other person that I can think of whose death will provoke a similar response is Nelson Mandela. Like Madiba she was one of only a handfull of adored human beings. Not by all but by many millions. Human beings as a species are not predominantly nice beings as this site can attest to.
July 3rd, 2007 at 8:19 am
I think a measure of the “Queen of Hearts” real popularity can be worked out by the fact that this posting contains 40 entries and the one about a boy shooting a pig has over 200.
Now if he had shot a Princess, that would have been news.

To their credit the Brits have great comedy and the legacy of Diana Princess of Wales. (The only Royal who gained international clout)
I was wrong about the concert. It actually was not bad at all and a very nice gesture from her sons. My sincere apologies.
Happy to report that the ‘white masters’ are far and few between and no civil war in sight. Great Country!!!!!
July 3rd, 2007 at 2:20 am
It was the British who built the concentration camps in SA, it was the British migrant who colonised the country and insisted he was called “master”, and it was the British who first built the “homelands” and brought slavery to South Africa.
The huge migrations of the 60’s and 70’s to South Africa from lower socio-economic Britain opened up a whole new era of “white master” mentality, causing untold grief to the indiginous people.

Nice one Nora, put that way, yes her life was useful and productive, she did highlight the landmines, she did help the AIDS cause, and her compassion showed loud and clear, even if it was a photo opportunity. That was the point, so the message could be broadcast to the public.
During a time when people were confused, fearful of people with AIDS she did much to allay the fear, by visiting AIDS patients, she got a result no matter how many pictures were taken of her.
I wonder how many charitable works those attempting to insult her have done?

Let’s stop throwing racial tennis balls shall we? It’s going backwards and forwards like this week at Wimbledon (well, apart from the rain that keeps lashing down on dear old London). What we did to you, what you did to us. Instead of thinking about what was done to whom, how about starting to think “what can we all do for each other”? Instead of dying for our countries, how about starting to live for them?
No one can deny the awful and tragic torture and terror that so many countries have dished out over the centuries. British to the black man,Nazi to Jew, Irish to English, English to Irish, the terrible 9/11 abomination, etc etc. and these terrible things must be kept in the forefront of our minds, so that at least they’re not repeated. (lest we forget springs to mind), but we also need to look forward and try to work towards a common goal for this universe. Let’s all stop judging each other. I have always tried to teach my son not to judge, for no-one knows that inner soul of the other person. My dear dad used to say if we all thought of what hell is like for just one minute a day, not a bad action would pass our way.
There’s an old cliche “if I can help somebody as I go along, then my living shall not be in vain”. so, as calculating as you may consider Diana to have been, at least she did “help somebody as she went along” so I am sure her living won’t have been in vain. her soul is known only to her and her God, so let’s stop the insults shall we, and look deep within ourselves to see if we are perfect enough to judge - I am sure we will find that none of us are.

Thanks Anonymous, at last someone who is willing strip away the veneer of loveliness associated with this overblown tart and reveal the calculating bitch beneath.
Since when is it treason to call a whore a whore - most royalty in past has had a great time fucking them.

Not my favourite person ever: Princess Diana. She elected to be patron of the Red Cross, and then refused to attend any function, after a year they felt compelled to ask her to stand down, to allow them to choose a real patron who was active and helped the fundraising

Princess Diana - also in the past, so let it go.
July 2nd, 2007 at 1:43 pm
No one on this earth is without blame. Our country’s shamefull past is exactly that - the past. Rainbow nation.
As for the Brits - South African woman and children (black and white) died in their thousands in British concentration camps. Also in the past.
And Marian - who exactly do you class as ‘Afrikaaners”? Some “Afrikaner people” also fought for the liberation of the ANC.
Most South Africans are, believe it or not, very tolerant and proudly South African. We live in a beautifull country and sorry if you don’t like your people. Just don’t come here. Fully booked. No space.
July 2nd, 2007 at 1:38 pm
Bet the bitch would have been on Celebrity Big Brother.
She must look down and regret passing on before the advent of ‘reality television’ - she was a natural - a sort of upmarket Jade Goody.
July 2nd, 2007 at 1:27 pm
I am nice Marian - I just can’t abide this ‘Emporers New Clothes’ syndrome that occurs every time she appears. She played the British public like a fruit machine and we all seemed to buy it.
I have no real rage towards her, despite how my rants may appear - I just cannot stand the sheer hypocrasy of the whole circus surrounding her.
Yes the Afrikaners, wonderful chaps, especially when the used to play their favourite game of beating black men to death with baseball bats because they knew the judge would let them go with a ticking off - great guys.
July 2nd, 2007 at 1:15 pm
Dear Bloated Bollocks
How tragic that you feel this amount of rage towards a beautiful woman whom I doubt has harmed you in any way.
Many people loved her or the image she portrayed. She was a style icon, a philanthropist and why should she not have her day in the sun? I am by no means a Royalist, but do not care to insult the late Princess or people who do admire her.
I also think the Afrikaners are a great nation. Hounded by the British then the ANC, they fought in both your world wars, for all the thanks they got.
Be nice bloated bollocks. It doesn’t hurt.
July 2nd, 2007 at 1:11 pm
Sadly missed by you perhaps - I couldn’t care less. She did nothing that any normal person wouldn’t have done, but she only did it in the spotlight. If she hadn’t got where she did, do you seriously think she would have associated herself with these causes and beavered away in the background? No!! It was just a good way of getting herself on the front page. She may have had a good heart, but she was, as I have said before, a self seekking publicist.
