Madeleine McCann: Gerry On The Telly And It Could Be U
“MADELEINE: It’s not too late says mum.”
The front page of the Express contains a “Dramatic Plea”.
But it’s not dramatic so much as it is desperate. “It’s not too late, please give her back,” says Kate McCann.
As ever the Express tells readers that Mrs McCann is a GP. Gerry McCann, we learn is a “consultant cardiologist”.
Says she: “Every day is hard. Every day is very difficult… The important thing is getting Madeleine back and we hope that what we are doing increases the chance of that.”
What’s The Story?
Indeed, that is the important thing. It is the only thing. But the press want more.
Says Gerry McCann: “We have a mix of very positive days, when we have done big things and achieved things or big events with the campaign, but we are aware these things are secondary.”
He’s right. Of course he is. But the press have been pointing fingers at the police, gawping at “creepy” men, listening to anyone with a paedophile story, looking for bodies and signs. They have not been on the trail of Madeleine. They follow the McCanns around, first Spain, then Germany, then the UK, the Vatican and Morocco. They are watching the parents. The parents are the story. And we are invited to look on like voyeurs.
We can wear braclets. Find Madeleine is this year’s Make Poverty History campaign.
Infotainment
The Sun says Gerry McCann is to appear at the Edinburgh TV Festival. No, not because he’s given us hours of great telly. Although he is taking the slot once occupied by Simon Cowell and Michael Barrymore. Gerry will be “quizzed” by Newsnight presenter Kirsty Walk on the media campaign to find Madeleine McCann.
Peter Barron, organiser of the event, rated the Find Madeleine campaign a “new and moving phenomenon”. What was that about good telly?
But it’s scaring the children. The Star says an appeal to find Madeleine is being screened before cinema showings of U-rated Shrek The Third.
Children with faces full of popcorn and crisps hear that Madeleine was “snatched” from her bed. “Madeleine’s parents are devastated, but they haven’t given up hope.”
A mum says it’s “unfair” to show this to children. “It makes them fear that they too could be abducted.”
It spreads the fear. It creates anxiety. And it shows no sign whatsoever of finding Madeleine nor the person or persons who might have taken her…

Thank you Salem… I’ll have a look at those two.
Well yes there are two definite camps but always room for fence sitters - I’m one myself really. From what I have seen of the McCanns I can’t warm to them, even though the press have tried their damndest to portray them as wonderful people - but that doesn’t mean that they are guilty of anything more than neglect, so I also try to give them the benefit of the doubt.
The trouble is that the more I look into the puzzling aspects of the case the harder it becomes. For example I agree that Murat must have had a reason to lie about his contact with Malinka - although that reason may have nothing to do with Madeleine… but by the same reasoning (lying means covering something up) why have Gerry and Kate lied about various things?
There are so many inconsistencies and yet so much insistence upon one theory, which has no more supporting evidence than any other … and therein lies the dividing line between the two camps:
The ‘Pro’ camp will not entertain anything other than that the McCanns’ word is gospel - that abduction from the apartment is a hard fact and anyone daring to suggest equally possible alternatives is instantly villified and treated as an enemy… when presented with any inconsistencies they resort to avoiding the issues and name calling - anything to avoid looking at ‘the elephant in the living room’. Those who do try to explain away the anomalies will perform the most unbelievable mental contortions in order to do so and usually either vanish from a particular thread once it becomes evident that they are tying themselves into ever more complicated knots, or fall back on the ‘how dare you question these wonderful parents who are an example to us all’ line.
The ‘Anti’ brigade are just as guilty of name calling unfortunately - they didn’t usually start off this way. Most were fence sitters, and some were originally very supportive of the parents but couldn’t ignore the inconsistencies. Once they ‘dared’ to voice their questions, they automatically became the enemy and eventually resorted to responding to the ‘Pro’s’ in kind.
Fence sitters some of us may be - but I have to warn you that, no matter how reasoned your concerns and puzzlement, or how polite your posts are, the very fact that you are admitting to finding aspects of the case puzzling will automatically brand you as an ‘Anti’ in the eyes of those who will not entertain any questioning of the facts as presented by Gerry, Kate and the British media … it must be swallowed hook, line and sinker, without doubt or question or you are an infidel (and a total bounder to boot
)

When has a parent every been perfect?? there should be more people out there helping find abducted children and not making the parents wrong for other things,
PUT YOUR HAND UP IF YOU THINK YOU ARE PERFECT???
We do not live in a perfect world, and people have nothing better to do than to judge the parents,
this is about finding Madeleine!! you are all cracked in the head to think they drugged madeleine or set up the abduction!
Get a life!

Well this has been an interesting read. Definitely two camps here…. either on one side or the other. What about those of us hanging on the fence? Are we allowed to post here?
Molly - you commented that you only new of two “bed-snatchings.” I would like to add an additional two to your list. There was Elizabeth Smart out of Utah, USA. She was found and returned to her family about 9 months later. Then there was Jessica Langford, also out of the USA. Her story has a very sad ending. Both girls were taken from their homes in the middle of the night.
I also want to point out that leaving a door unlocked in case of fire, when you are certain your child will not get up and walk out it, is slightly futile….
This is a puzzling case. I try to give the McCanns the benefit of the doubt, but I find that very trying at times. It is evident that some of the folks posting here are also having a bit of a hard time with it……..

I think sleepwalking is a red herring.
Let’s look at the clues that suggest sedatives were used on all three children:
1/ The parents got three children off to sleep at the same time, even though Maddie was older. How did they do that?
2/ The parents were so sure their children were not going to wake up and play with electrical equipment, hairspray, cry, wake from a nightmare, fall on the hard floor etc that they happily left them completely alone to go out.
3/ Madeleine apparently slept through the abduction. No screaming for help was reported (even though the parents tried to claim a heavy shutter had been forced, although police denied this was the case).
4/ The twins allegedly did not wake through the alleged abduction.
5/ Kate McCann was so sure the twins were asleep that she left them still sleeping alone to make her claim in the restaurant that “they’ve taken her!” The twins were still sleeping when friends returned gathered at the apartment.
6/ The parents were absolutely certain that Maddie did not wander off on her own. Why were they so certain?
7/ There was a delay in calling the police. Was this to allow time to waken the twins?
8/ The parents are doctors with knowledge of sedatives.
9/ The McCanns are evidently incredibly irresponsible part-time parents who need to go out and have a good time with their children dealt with one way or another.
Does this prove the McCanns sedated the children? No.
Do I think they used sedatives? Yes
Could overuse of sedatives kill a child? Yes
Did both parents give Maddie sedatives, giving her twice their standard dose?

Good heavens, look at this!
Good heavens, look at this.
.community.nsw.gov.au/documents/par0-5yrs.pdf
What parents can do
There is no special treatment to stop sleepwalking. The
important thing is to make sure your child is safe.
Lock doors and windows and put heaters, electric cords
and any other dangerous objects out of the way.
If you catch your child sleepwalking, carefully guide
them back to bed without waking them.
Help them to understand that this is a natural thing and
is nothing to be embarrassed or worried about.
Most children grow out of sleepwalking, nightmares
and night terrors.
Children who wake at night and are afraid
need comfort.
For sleepwalking, make sure your house is safe.
Keep your child’s days as happy and relaxed
as you can.

?i have to say i am yet to hear anything about sleepwalking apart from gossip?
Only too true, pixel; however, the first mention of abduction and paedophiles is also only gossip (from the same fookin’ family, no less!).
Talk about double dipping! The aunt, in between shifts at the Ullapool kipper factory, gave an interview which stated that the missing bairn was a sleepwalker (and what would make the wee girl walk in her sleep? An instinctive fear of paedophilia?).
The mother, after extensive checking the contents of the sangria jug and then checking on her babies, “declared, “They’ve taken her”, just as if the bairn was an automobile repossessed by a bailiff (and, were the payments up to date on the IVF treatments? Three would be expensive!).
Nope, Pixel, this is all gossip. Peter Pan, that champion of neglected children, took her off to Never Land (and you can be sure that he’ll keep her paedophile- and sleepwalking-free.)
Tick, Tock, Tick, Tock. Time’s a-running out.

Pixie Girl - Gerry’s sister Trish mentioned it in a news interview, not long after she went missing. Neighbours in Leicester also brought it up in tv spots.

It’s an interesting theory, and this is the first I’ve heard that they sedated Madeleine to stop her sleepwalking. Does anyone have any idea why it hasn’t been reported in the British press, when it has in the Portuguese? And why hasn’t the British press mentioned her sleepwalking?
Another thing, why on EARTH would they have left the patio doors open if Madeleine was in the habit of sleepwalking? This is beginning to make less sense than ever.
On the other hand, going back to the whole Murat thing, why would Murat and Malinka have lied about having spoken on the phone that night when phone records proved they did? Is this something anyone would be likely to forget? Why would both of them have forgotten? Unless they didn’t want anyone to know they’d spoken?
Are we waiting for more forensic tests to prove whether Murat was or wasn’t the ‘fifth mystery person’ in the apartment that night? Assuming all the known friends who were in the apartment that night helping with the search have been ruled out with previous forensic testing? It took a month for the first forensic tests to come through - it must be getting on for a month since Murat and the other guy (his girlfriend’s husband) have given samples (Murat’s second because the first got lost or contaminated).

No flaws inherent there. All children react differently to drugs, just like adults.
With enough chlorphenamine (or similar) in her system she’d be so sedated that if she choked or vomited she’d be unable to react to save herself. Aspirating vomit is often fatal. If the twins didn’t vomit, then they’d be fine. One of the side effects of piriton is vomiting. Work it out.

Jenn you went to all the bother of posting a link, so one would assume that this will tell us that one double dose = death. No, just a nice picture of a bottle. Great link.
Also, your theory says ‘all’ the children get a double dose- do i need to point out the huge flaw in this?
July 4th, 2007 at 11:42 pm
It’s already been reported in the Portuguese press actually, that she was regularly sedated to prevent sleepwalking.
Sadly the tabloid gag in your country means you don’t get to hear it.
The net’s closing, the facade is crumbling.
July 4th, 2007 at 11:37 pm
Okay, so we’re getting some meat on the bones of this theory. The mcCann’s accidentally gave Madeleine a fatal overdose of Piriton. Call the PJ right away, Labs has cracked it!
July 4th, 2007 at 11:36 pm
http://www.pharmacy2u.co.uk/details.asp?productid=PIS150
BTW - “How could two doctors accidentally overdose their child”
Easily. Mummy Grubb gives a dose before she gets ready to go out. Daddy Grubb doesn’t see this happening, gives them all another dose each as they still seem lucid and alert. Et voila - double dose, dead kid.
July 4th, 2007 at 11:35 pm
What a load of rubbish!
All this talk is not helping Madeleine.
If everyone only focused their energy in trying to find Madeleine it may bring a quicker reponse to the agonising wait.
July 4th, 2007 at 11:33 pm
oh dear Frantastic, I don’t think language like that is ever necessary !
July 4th, 2007 at 11:31 pm
I’ve heard Piriton/Piriteze is all the rage for keeping kids quiet.
July 4th, 2007 at 11:25 pm
“let`s think about this -labbie tarrant wants to know is it possible for - not one - but two - doctors to ‘overdose but not deliberately overdose ‘ a child….?”
It is the most ridiculous suggestion Little Miss L has come out with yet. What were they allegedly medicating her with- calpol.
July 4th, 2007 at 11:22 pm
I am deeply saddened at the negative comments and insinuations about the McCann family. The disappearance of their daughter is the tragedy that we all fear for our own children. What happened to compassion?
July 4th, 2007 at 11:17 pm
Hmm. Sherry has gender agnosia. Y/N?
July 4th, 2007 at 11:12 pm
Oh Captain Frantastic, your mouth needs to be washed out with soap, you filthy old man,
July 4th, 2007 at 11:10 pm
Frances - bog off you blithering old cunt. Just because this is the only place that hasn’t banned you, doesn’t mean we’ll put up with you. Get back on your meds you crazy old bitch.
July 4th, 2007 at 11:09 pm
Oh you do make me smile.
July 4th, 2007 at 11:06 pm
A conspiracy of sockpuppets? What a great name for a band. The first track would be the sound of sheep bleating.
July 4th, 2007 at 11:05 pm
Little miss labradoodle, you really see a conspiracy everywhere, even on this forum. Take a deep breath…
July 4th, 2007 at 11:00 pm
1) I said ‘overdose’, not ‘deliberate overdose’
2) Kate McCann, when pressed, seems unable to recall any details at all about her child. Hardly surprising. Kid’s Club from waking up till lunchtime, then back for a nap, then back to Kid’s Club, then back to bed and asleep till next day. If home life was anything like this, it’s likely they passed like ships in the night. No wonder she never gives any details.
Can I just ask, if you believe your ‘opinion’ to be so valid and correct, why must you use so many sockpuppets to ‘back you up’?
July 4th, 2007 at 10:47 pm
Nah, you’re not kidding me on little miss labradoodle, that definitely got your hackles up.
July 4th, 2007 at 10:45 pm
I don’t mind being called a girl Sherry/Denise/Frances/whatever sockpuppet you’re pretending to be this time. I just pointed out that I wasn’t one.
July 4th, 2007 at 10:40 pm
Labrador, lets suggest you’re a girl again. You really didn’t like that. Best beef up those posts.
July 4th, 2007 at 10:38 pm
Really, I thought both of them seemed equally unpleasant.
