Madeleine McCann Not In Malta Or Morocco
FROM Paulo Reis in Portugal:
Portuguese CID spokesman, about Madeleine abduction: “The clue to this mistery is in Praia da Luz”
Portuguese authorities have dismissed as groundless all leads on sightings of Madeleine McCann in other countries rather than Portugal, namely in Morroco and Malta, said Polícia Judiciária (PJ), Portuguese CID, spokesman Olegário de Sousa (…) Further investigations are being carried out centered mainly on the area of Praia da Luz itself, said Mr. Olegário de Sousa. «The clue to this mistery is in Praia da Luz», according to other police source quoted by Diário de Notícias. (…)
Note: Kate and Gerry McCann are innocent.

A troll is a fearsome member of a mythical anthropomorph race from Norse mythology. Originally more or less the Nordic equivalents of giants, although often smaller in size, the different depictions have come to range from the fiendish giants – similar to the ogres of England (also called Trolls at times, see Troller’s Gill) – to a devious, more human-like folk of the wilderness, living underground in hills, caves or mounds. In the Faroe islands, Orkney and Shetland tales, trolls are called trows, adopted from the Norse language when these islands were settled by Vikings.
IF PEOPLE ON HERE ARE GOING TO ENTER INTO THE CHILDISH ACT OF NAME CALLING, PLEASE AT LEAST USE NAMES THAT ACTUALLY MAKE SENSE!!!

A mob on the turn is an ugly sight. It is a beast of savage power and small brain. Those the mob supports are carried shoulder high but, should it turn, they will be as quickly torn to pieces. The media is the mob today and the couple whose fate teeters in the balance are Kate and Gerry McCann. Since May, and the disappearance of their daughter Madeleine, they have been held aloft. They have received sympathy, support and adulation. They’ve been shown to us as beautiful, devout and heartbroken parents; the blameless victims of an evil world. Their one fault was to trust their children would be safe while they slipped out to eat.
Then the Portuguese police cast the terrible shadow of suspicion on them, making them suspects in Madeleine’s death. Before they left Portugal, people on the streets of Praia da Luz had started to hiss. Here, the hissing is beginning to seep out from the British media as it starts to hedge its bets. It’s a sound as depressing as it is dangerous.
One reporter, who had only praise for the McCanns last month or even last week, now writes of long- harboured doubts and suspicions. Another said he always wondered why a paedophile would risk taking a child from an apartment with a well-used alley at the back of it and a main road at the front. Yet another remembered how Kate fell silent when asked why she hadn’t used a baby-sitter and how she walked away when asked why she left the apartment doors and windows unlocked. This reporter also said Gerry could appear arrogant.
Another newspaper queried why, on the night of the disappearance, the two-year-old twins didn’t waken when Madeleine was lifted from between them. It asked why they continued to sleep through their mother’s hysteria when she found Madeleine gone. Why did they carry on sleeping when the apartment filled with people? The implication is obvious: they were sedated.
Can you feel the chill wind of condemnation? Can you imagine what will happen to this family if hostility takes hold? The media is a many-headed hydra. No one newspaper or television station will rip the couple to pieces but there are many journalists camped outside the McCanns’ home, each with a separate master; each in competition with the others. Meanwhile, the executives who issue instructions to stake out the McCanns are not on the ground to see the overwhelming effect of the media army.
The evidence is as convincing as Tony Blair’s dodgy dossier
Well, let me state a few points for the defence. Would a paedophile take a child from an apartment which is overlooked? You bet he would. I’ll give you two of many examples. On a hot summer night in 1995, nine-year-old Sophie Hook was sleeping with two cousins in a tent in the garden of a house in north Wales. She was abducted, abused, battered and thrown into the sea. In December 2005, a man walked through the back door of a house in North Shields. He took a six-year-old girl from her bath, assaulted her in a car and dumped her, naked, in a nearby street. An active paedophile is, by definition, a high-stakes risk taker.
Why would Kate McCann fall silent when asked an accusatory question? Does it mean she has something to hide? Of course it doesn’t. I wonder how often she had been asked the question. I wonder how she’s managing to appear in front of the media at all. When had she last slept or eaten? Did she know the answer anyway? If one of my children had been taken shortly before their fourth birthday, I would be in such a state of shock, grief and guilt that I wouldn’t be able to cope with any such question. I would be much more likely to have a ready explanation for leaving the doors unlocked if I had done it to cover some foul deed of my own.
If I were Gerry McCann, would I be arrogant? This is a young father trying to compensate for failing in his primary role of family protector. Maybe he needed to feel in control of the search for his daughter. He is also a hospital consultant. It’s a profession that is no stranger to arrogance: but it isn’t a crime.
The suggestion that the twins were sedated is more pertinent since Kate is apparently suspected of accidentally killing Madeleine by overdosing her with sedative. She and her husband strenuously deny this. I have heard of no medical evidence that the children were doped but even if it exists, it doesn’t necessarily implicate the parents. If a kidnapper watched the family and planned the abduction, would they have risked Madeleine creating a fuss and the twins setting up a racket? Isn’t it at least possible that he or she used something to keep the children quiet?
We’re told dogs detected the scent of a corpse on Kate’s clothes. She is a GP who saw five dead people the week she came on holiday. It is said that DNA from a speck of blood in the boot of a car the family hired 25 days after Madeleine disappeared, matched DNA in their holiday apartment. The McCanns have retained the car to have their own tests done. There is, however, a general acceptance that Kate could not have transported a corpse that had been hidden for almost a month in high temperatures. Such proposals are beyond nightmare.
From what we know of the police evidence, it is about as convincing as Tony Blair’s dodgy dossier on the Iraq War and deserves as little credence. What is not disputed is that on the night the child disappeared, Portuguese police were slow to respond. How can anyone judge the McCanns’ behaviour in those early days when they were confronted by the knowledge that borders were not closed, searches were not carried out and all the time the clock was ticking and Madeleine was possibly being taken to her death or worse.
Somehow her parents remained dignified. Now, months later, they realise the Portuguese police are focusing their efforts on prosecuting them, instead of tracing and finding their child. If the McCanns are innocent, I don’t know how they are clinging to sanity.
Before the media turns on them, fearing they’ve been too uncritical to date, let me sound a warning note. Let every journalist remember Sally Clark. She was portrayed as a heavy-drinking career woman who killed her babies rather than let them interfere with her lifestyle. Then she was exonerated. Unjust imprisonment destroyed that young woman even before her premature death.
Yesterday we saw pictures of two-year-old Sean and Amelie McCann. If they are extremely fortunate, they will grow up with parents and an elder sister who survived a traumatic summer. If they are not, they could have their parents imprisoned for the unlawful killing of a sister who is never found. If you’d had the sort of luck that Kate and Gerry have had of late, what would you be expecting? Meanwhile, as posters of Madeleine bleach in the sun, despair must be snapping at their heels.
I believe in the presumption of innocence. British journalists were right to support these young parents and I hope they continue to do so. I, for one, will not be joining any growing hiss of the mob.

5374 Mike, Mods and Admin,
I feel there has been a huge amount of misunderstanding regards my posts. I have never said, i think the McCanns have killed their children. I have never said anything against them, other than to comment about them leaving their children alone whilst on holiday. I have never said their remaining children should be removed from their care, has never entered into my thoughts. Yet i am been called a troll for believing they were wrong to leave their children and that if they hadnt done that, Madeleine may still be in the safety of her family.
Mods and Admin in that post you said that people shouldnt come on here and abuse each other, cant disagree with that. But who were you aiming that at? Because i hope it wasnt me. As there has been plenty of abuse flying about from the core posters on here. As they have done time and time again, shouting people down who dont agree with their every word. You are supposed to be unbiased in all this. Yet in that post you seem to be justifying the actions of some of the posters on here, and their name calling and general bad behaviour. The following remark was made by you:
So, whilst we decide what to do about trolls, and there are many on this site ( our attention has been distracted by the Gillian Gibbons case and the trouble on that thread) can I suggest you do just ignore people who insult ad nauseum
The above is hardly unbiased is it. Who are you to be calling people trolls? Pathetic, it really is.

Lauren, the posters on this particular thread have been posting here for months in a quiet and peaceful way. They came to this thread to discuss amongst themselves their theories.
There are more than sufficient other threads, try the many that have been created over the past fortnight, where there are many points of view on the McCann parents, where debate flows freely, insults are exchanged frequently and no holds barred with the exception of personal insults and digs at family members of the posters.
And no it wasn’t aimed at you specifically, and yes I am unbiased in my views towards the McCanns and imposing those views on posters.

Jean, just a curiosity re your 5395 post. Do you despair at the McCanns having left the children alone? Seems a lot of sympathy flying round on here for the Mcs lack of parental responsibility. Yet in this post, where this woman, whose child has died, you appeared to be very unsympathetic - just wondered why, whats the difference between her pain and the Mcs pain?
Kat and Kirstie, i dont think there is any harm at looking at things from all angles. Some of the McCanns actions / behaviours have seemed at times very odd to say the least. But having never lost a child, or every suffered from shock - is this how you do behave, i really dont know? I think until this whole tragedy has reached some kind of resolution, any one could be involved or responsible for the disappearance of Madeleine. I truly hope for the sake of the twins, it has nothing to do with Kate and Gerry. Seems to be so many twists and turns in all of this, its hard to keep up at times or even know what the truth is at all.

****Quote: “This information came to light in a meeting between Portuguese and British police in Leicester last week. Former Surrey Police detective and child protection expert Mark Williams-Thomas was present at the summit.
He said to the newspaper in Portugal: “The mobile phone data was secured by British experts in the 10 days after Madeleine dissapeared. Although not initially analysed, in has now been and will provide vital information.”
So it appears the Portuguese have had a meeting with British Police….hooray !
Why oh why has Mark Williams-Thomas leaked this crucial piece of information to a newspaper ?????

The call between Gerry and O’Brien was made on the 10 June and yet the mobile phone data was secured in the 10 days after the 3rd ?!????
Gerry says he was within 4kms of PDL…..when was he questioned about this call if it has only just come to light ????
Am I being completely thick or does it not make any sense ? Can someone with half a brain please clarify the finer details to me as I’m totally confused !

#5400 - Mike,
ooh that’s very interesting about the text exchange between Gerry and O’brien…. Let’s hope there’s some truth in it and not just more media hype…the sooner we get to the bottom of Madeleine’s disappearance the better.

Do you have a copy of the papers that Isla posted a while back from Scrimpton (was it???)
I’d like to take another look at it….
Cheers x
December 7th, 2007 at 12:37 pm
Kirstie, from reading your previous posts it was obvious to me that you sit on the fence , as do I.
I feel exactly the same as you….I can’t comprehend some of their actions - why film? why do so much travelling? why visit the US? why visit Europe?
Why did they leave their children alone? Why on earth was the door left unlocked? Why leave Sean and Amelie in the creche after Madeleines disappearance - surely if you believed it was an abdcution then they could do it again (my other children wouldn’t leave my sight).
When they were on their travels they were waving and smiling at their adoring public as if they are celebrities and not the distraught parents whose beautiful has gone missing…..
I just hope the truth comes out very, very soon….can’t bear this dragging into the New Year.
Did I see something on Sky News that they’d taken Madeleine’s column down due to a lack of new stories being released ? Mike you’ll probably know the answer to this one lol !

The father of Madeleine McCann is expected to be interrogated over new data gleaned from mobile phone records which could solve the mystery of his daughter’s disappearance, a Portuguese newspaper has reported.
According to Carreio da Manha, investigating conversations and text messages exchanged between Gerry and Kate McCann and the Tapas Nine are top of dectectives’ agenda in the search to find Maddie.
It is claimed they are currently studying telephone records from the the 10-day holiday and experts have already reported one suspicious exchange between Mr McCann and friend Doctor Russell O’Brien.
Gerry McCann faces fresh interrogations after new data was uncovered from his mobile phone
Although the former insisted he was within 4km of Praia de Luz when the pair had a telephone conversation on June 10, technicians have discovered he made the call 40km from the resort, it was reported.
The newspaper claims Mr McCann and Mr O’Brien will be interrogated about the phone call next week in Britain.
This information came to light in a meeting between Portuguese and British police in Leicester last week.

Morning All,
I just wanted to touch on Jeans post about having little blips. I am the same, as is Kat i think.
It’s just sometimes things look a bit odd and ido believe there’s more to this than meets the eye, i.e- Kate and Gerry are not telling everything they know, nor are the friends or RM. It’s just a feeling i have. The Panorama programme did make for uncomfortable viewing in my opinion. JT was most definatly nervous- and yes, it could be attributed to not being used to being on TV, the cameras etc. I also found Kate’s demeanour to be questionable. I did think she was holding it together a little too well, again this could have been attributed to medication if she hadn’t had the drugs test. These were proved to be negative-meaning she wasn’t on anything before, during or after that interview. The whole staged thing with the friend i found to be very odd indeed. They didn’t know it was to be used (for Panorama prog or any other) and in fact only offered it up when it became clear the footage existed….so why did they do the filming with the friend in the first place? Considering their daughter had only been missing a few weeks (at the time of the friend filming)i did find it all so strange. There are a few things that have made me think, uh-oh what’s going on here then?? When Gerry walked out of that interview my instant reaction was that it was very telling. I did realise though the questions were not ones they could answer and were fed up repeating themselves, but it did make me think for a moment….
The unlocked apartment- i have thought on more than one occassion- how convienient for them to have done that, a little too convienient maybe?? It’s just things that run around my head momentarily. Perhaps i am just naturally sceptical i don’t know. But on the flip side i have seen a family that are desperatly trying to find their daughter, neice, grandchild and i cannot get my head around the fact that if they had harmed her, or moved her themselves or enlisted help from others to hide her then seemingly went for dinner without any show of emotion, ate laughed talked normally…this is the part i struggle with. I can’t see how not only one but two maybe more people in that group kept it to themselves and carried on like normal. That doesn;’t fit to me.
I think alot of the interest and subsequent abuse they have endured from the public is because they have been so accessable to the general public throughout the world. Never before have we seen the family of a missing or murdered child, giving almost daily press releases, walking along the street/beach, writing a blog, trying to carry on family life,….usually the families ( i say usually, sadly it is all too often) are holed up at home or somewhere else unable to face the world but waiting for news, sick with fear and worry. That is where they have come in for critisism, in my viewthe apparent detachment from the situation, alongside the fact they left the children in the first place. The papers are only giving Maddie column inches because as a nation we have become hooked on what has happened to this beautiful little girl and they are selling their papers knowing full well we are clamouring to read all there is to know.(be it truth or leaked garbage).
I just wish we could find out one way or another what happened to her….the only real innocent in any of this.

Jean-5395
That is indeed a shocking and sad story. I guess it boils down to one thing- do not leave babies and toddlers unattended for any length of time, or tie yourself up where you cant keep an eye on them. This little girl could have physiological problem when she is older. What a tragedy………..

Now Portuguese author claims Madeleine and the twins were NEVER in holiday apartment
Last updated at 23:04pm on 6th December 2007
Just what are they going to come up with next.???? looks like someone is trying to make money out of this tragedy, where will it end with all these money grabbers!!
A Portuguese journalist has written a book blaming Kate and Gerry McCann for the disappearance of their daughter Madeleine.
In yet another attack on the British couple by the Portuguese media, “A culpa dos McCann” (The guilt of the McCanns) opens with the lines: “This story did not begin in the Ocean Club, but in London where the official truth was conspired and established: an English girl was kidnapped in the Algarve.”
The author, Manuel Catarino, editorial chief of Correio da Manha then goes on to accuse Kate McCann of failing to report Madeleine’s disappearance to Portuguese police, then pretending she had done so.
He also claims the McCanns holiday apartment showed no signs of having had children in it.
“Pamela Fenn offered herself immediately to call GNR (Portuguese police).
“Kate thanked her — but said it was not necessary because she’d already called them. Maddie’s mother didn’t say the truth.
“The first phone call to the Guard was made by a Tapas waiter at around 22:40 — more than half an hour after Kate noticed her daughter was missing. The first patrol arrived at 23:00 sharp.” Later, the author states “The apartment didn’t look like a holiday location where three children jump up and down all day.
“The sofas didn’t have a single wrinkle and the chairs were milimetrically aligned. There wasn’t a piece of clothing out of place, not even a toy in sight. Only the furry Cuddly bear.
“The kitchen was spotless, without the slightest trace of remains of the children’s milk or baby food.”
The books publisher said today: “The characters of the book are real, the related facts are precise, and the descriptions are accurate.
Kate and Gerry have been accused of kidnapping Madeleine
“All the steps of the investigation appear in this essential document that constitutes an invaluable vision about a colossal web of information, manoeuvres, certainties and conjectures that continue to feed the media around the world.”
The McCanns spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, denied the allegations and said their lawyers would examine its contents closely.
He said: “The very title of this book is a lie and its contents an utter fabrication.
“You can imagine the sort of pain and anguish that this sort of rubbish brings Kate and Gerry.
“If people are seeking to capitalise on their suffering in the run up to Christmas then that is a matter for them and their conscience.”
Meanwhile, it has also been claimed police in Portugal rushed to make Madeleine McCann’s parents official suspects to beat a change in the law.
Eight days after Kate and Gerry McCann were declared “arguidos” in their daughter’s disappearance, a penal code was brought in which demands credible evidence before someone can be made a formal suspect.
Yesterday, the McCanns’ lawyer, Carlos Pinto de Abreu, suggested police had deliberately acted to avoid the new legal requirements - and friends of the couple accused officers of a smear campaign.
Fernando Pinto Monteiro, Portugal’s attorney-general, also admitted that he did not know whether the couple would have been made suspects in light of the code, which came in on September 15.
“The law did not demand justified suspicions at the time in which they were made arguidos,” he said.
Mr de Abreu said: “After September 15, a new procedural penal code was introduced making it necessary for there to be evidence against the citizen to make him an arguido.
“Before September 15, it wasn’t necessary. You could be made an arguido without any suspicions or evidence against you.
“Now to constitute anybody as an arguido, it is necessary to have evidence in the file.
“That’s why the national public prosecutor said that if this inquiry was launched now, maybe they would not have been made arguidos.
“Maybe that’s why the inquiry happened then, why they were made arguidos eight days before the new laws came in.”
The McCanns were declared suspects at a time when police were under increasing criticism.
The apartment: A new book claims no children were ever in the Praia de Luz rooms
The Policia Judiciaria claimed that forensic evidence proved Madeleine came to harm in her parents’ holiday apartment in Praia da Luz.
But experts at the Forensic Science Service in Birmingham have since thrown doubt on this theory, saying the DNA samples were inconclusive.
Now Portuguese investigators are analysing mobile phone records of calls in the resort before and after the four-year-old disappeared in May.
Child protection expert Mark Williams-Thomas said: “Although not initially analysed, it has now been and will provide vital information about mobile phone usage in and around Praia.”
Under Portuguese law, a person can be arrested only if he or she has first been given arguido status.
Arguidos can be taken before a judge for restrictions to be placed on their movements, including house
arrest. The McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell said yesterday: ‘Being declared arguidos almost three months ago caused the McCanns immense anguish and continues to do so.
“To think they could have been saved that under a law introduced only days later makes a mockery of the case against them.
“They are entirely innocent victims of a horrible crime that has taken away their daughter and they want to be cleared as soon as possible so the focus can return to finding Madeleine.
“If it is true that changes to the law would have meant that they would not have been made arguidos, that’s all the more reason for their status to be dropped now.”

Hi Jean:
OMG ! That’s such an awful sad story! SEE - when I posted earlier….about the twins….? I thought that was a crazy post I posted.. :)- but… what were their sleeping arrangements again..? Was Maddie in the middle of the twins? - In the picture of that apartment…. that seemed to be a pretty big bed for a small child as Maddie to be sleeping in the first place without guard rails… - and where were the cots?
December 6th, 2007 at 10:16 pm
Hi All
This is nothing to do with Madeleine - but what a shocking story. It shows that parents everywhere must be careful at all times when leaving their children. Do we accuse this mother of neglect??
SISTER KILLED BABY BROTHER
A mother yesterday described the horrifying moment when she found that her six month old son had accidentlly been smothered by her young daughter sitting on him.
Georgina Bartlett, 33 left baby James sleeping IN A RUBBER PLAY RING, WHILE SHE WENT UPSTAIRS FOR A BATH. She came back to find three year old Abigail sitting on the ring, with her son slumped over.
James was rushed by air ambulance from his home in Nailsworth, Glos, to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
His mother told an inquest, I heard James wake up and he was chuckling and giggling. Then he stopped chuckling and giggling, I thought he had fallen back asleep.
Rocording a verdict of accidental death, the coroner said the daughter was not to blame. He added, a three and a half year old cannot be expected to understand that this could lead to catastrophe. Especially as she had shown such loving attention to her brother.
MY COMMENT - If you heard your baby, then didn’t hear your baby, surely you would go and see what was wrong instead of assuming he had gone back to sleep again!!!!! I really do despair.

Swiss miss I am awfully sorry but all of your post must be deleted. I shall leave the last sentance.
Its best if you write your own version JJ
December 6th, 2007 at 5:35 pm
But according to national newspapers Miss Pennington, 20, says she saw Murat outside the flat at about midnight. She says she challenged him the next day but he denied being there.
Miss Pennington saw Murat several days later in a supermarket talking to a mystery man who looked like a sketch of a person the police wanted to talk to.
this would make a lot of sense as her scent was found near the supermarket,
December 6th, 2007 at 5:34 pm
to all,
its the little things that they are missing that will prove someones guilt, murats girlfriend can explain her change of apperance at the same time that madeline went missing, just being caught out on a little lie will do it,if the mccanns are guilty so be it,but so many people around madeline that day are so suspicious i cannot belive,to tell you the truth i would not bring my dog to playa del luz,
to isla, soilder on, madeline mccann need you and so do a lot of other people here as you are an expert in retriveing info we all need, even the mccanns need yours and our help,on jan 3 the case closes and we will see what the pj know and what the mccanns know,a lot of stuff we do not know.
#5366 – Isla / Anthony,
That’s a very good point regarding Murat’s girlfriend dying her hair, I too thought she had blonde hair. However I’m not a hairdresser and don’t dye my hair so am not an expert with regards to root growth…good point though and you’d hope the authorities have also noticed that.
to lauren,
thank you for your reply,i hope you had someone watching your kids while you typed it as it only takes ten seconds to snatch a child and a lot of cases are when the parent turns their back for those ten seconds,in an ideal world our children could play in the park and on the beach but we do not live in that world,we live in a place where you watch your kids all the time with everyone,so none of us are any better than the mccanns,i had to babysit my niece who is two and i turned my back for a second and she was gone.my sister warned me she is like an eel,she was under the table with a bar of chocolate, such a fright i got, what we have learned from the mccanns is never trust anyone or any place with your children no matter who they are.
to headache, try strong thick demstos as it kills all known germs, hold your nose when you drink it and do not tell the shop assistant what you want it for as she will only sell you asprin which is no good for headaches like you.
the pj have said they close the case in jan 3 a lot will come out by then so i await the sparks.
murat and his girlfriend and her husband and their lackey malinka have a lot of explaining to do and if they do not answer to god then one of them will answer to one of the mercenerys who are looking for madeline and who do not play by the rules,so be it.
the only advice i can give to the mccanns is fight long and hard and do not give up or be pulled sideways, madeline mccann dead or alive would like to go home and i would like to help her do that, murats girlfriend dyed her hair at the same time she went missing,
small prayere for madeline she is found in whatever state.

I think the main reason that they don’t use them in a court of law is because they’re not conclusive and we can’t be guaranteed of their accuracy.
#5385 Maggie
I think it’s because the Portugeuse need permission to interview whilst on British soil. The simple answer would be for the McCann’s to return to Portugal. Again, we heard last week that the Portugeuse authorities were arriving and then it went all quiet again…..it does make you wonder if we’re just being fed with media bull !
The trouble with internet forums is you haven’t got a clue who you are speaking to….people use pseudonyms and can assume any identity they wish to….unfortunately the internet is a haven for paedophiles.

‘I did see Murat near Maddie flat’ ‘Dec 6 2007
A NANNY at the complex where Madeleine McCann went missing says she saw one of the Portuguese police’s main suspects outside the flat from where she disappeared.
Charlotte Pennington, from Leatherhead, is one of several witnesses who have told private detectives hired by Madeleine’s parents she saw a man matching Robert Murat’s description outside the apartment Madeleine was asleep in at the Ocean Club in Praia da Luz, Portugal.
Murat has always maintained he was at home with his 71-year-old mother when Madeleine disappeared on May 3.

Police ‘rushed Madeleine McCann case’
By Fiona Govan in Praia da Luz
Last Updated: 4:07pm GMT 06/12/2007
Madeleine McCann’s parents might have been spared the anguish of being named suspects over her disappearance if Portuguese police had not rushed their case through before a change in the law, it has been claimed.
A new penal code was introduced on Sep 15
Kate and Gerry McCann were made arguidos - formal suspects - just eight days before new legal measures were introduced which would have required firmer evidence against them.
The couple’s Portuguese lawyer has claimed that detectives may have deliberately fast-tracked the investigation to ensure they were put in the frame.
Investigators named the McCanns, both 39, as arguidos on September 7 after allegedly finding microscopic traces of blood in their holiday apartment and “bodily fluids” they thought could have belonged to Madeleine in the boot of their hire car.
Carlos Pinto de Abreu, a Portuguese lawyer on the McCanns’ defence team, said that under Portugal’s new penal code, police must have more than just suspicions to make somebody an arguido.
“On September 15 a new procedural penal code was introduced making it necessary for there to be evidence against the citizen before they could be made an arguido.
“Before this date it wasn’t necessary. You could be made an arguido without actual evidence against you,” he said.
“Maybe that is why the investigation took the turn it did - why they were named arguidos eight days before the new laws came in,” said Mr Pinto de Abreu.
His comments followed those of Fernando Jose Pinto Monteiro, Portugal’s Attorney General, who recently admitted the McCanns may not have been made suspects under the new laws.

Oh Luxury Dove-nothing but the best :-))
I’m pleased my spelling test gave you and swissmiss a laugh, we needed it after all the agro on here. Hopefully it will all calm down.

Thanks for your advice which I shall be taking! I have often said on here (about 5000 posts back) that I would never respond to personal attacks but it’s very hard not to But again I have decided that I won’t EVER respond because that is what the ‘trolls’ want. Some of the other forums are horrendous and some have even made sick cruel jokes about Madeleine which I found very disturbing, but it does prove that ‘the scum of the earth like paedophiles ’ do come onto forums such as these and try and join in, VERY SCARY!
Kat-there have been lots of online petition on the Downing Street web site to discredit the McCann’s, but most of them have been scraped-thankfully! There have been lots in their favour too, if you’re from the UK you can sign them.
Looks like Gordon Brown is getting the blame now! I think if the tapas 9 had got all their statement correct down to the last minute then they all would have been accused of planning the abduction down to a tee.
Seems like the McCanns can’t do right for doing wrong! But having said that, whose statement do the Pj not agree with? And why are the newspapers saying the PJ need government permission to re-interview Kate and Gerry as they have always said they would be willing to go back to Portugal or be re-interviewed in England.
Are the pj still actively looking for madeleine (if they ever were)?

Hey Kat:
hmmmm- that seems odd to me….. - why wouldn’t they be able to use them??-
You would think in today’s courts that the lie detectors would be crucial to have and accurate ? -

Hi Swissmiss,
To be honest I wouldn’t trust lie detector tests….people have been known to get false results.
However it would be ‘interesting’ if they all took one.
I don’t think the results could be used in a court of law in Portugal or over here…..not 100% certain about Portugeuse law though.

Hey Kat:
Would that also mean to have all of them do a lie detector test??

I’m sure Gordon Brown has got enough on his plate at the minute and the McCann’s should be far from his mind !
I hope Jacqui Smith doesn’t prolong the agony any longer and grants permission for the interview to take place…..I for one welcome the Tapas 7 and Kate & Gerry being re-interviewed even if it means the unthinkable emerging and that K&G are involved.
As long as Madeleine is found or we find out the truth that’s ALL that matters.

Hi everyone:
Yes, Isla… I had a good laugh too with Maggie’s post and the mods and admin too!! lol-
Kat:
Nice to see you posting again!!! -
By the way.. I just had a strange chill go thru….- If something did happen to Maddie… hopefully not…. but… what if the twins had something to do with it…. I know I know… sounds even horrible to say………… - but I’ve lived too long in the US and heard some pretty incredible stories of even a 5 yr old like shooting their 4 yr old sibling etc. etc etc ……… -
I think I also watch too much tv!!!! :)- Like the JonBenet Ramsey case…. the case was never solved…… and she had a brother ….. and I don’t think they’ve ever checked him out..
