Madeleine McCann Not In Malta Or Morocco
FROM Paulo Reis in Portugal:
Portuguese CID spokesman, about Madeleine abduction: “The clue to this mistery is in Praia da Luz”
Portuguese authorities have dismissed as groundless all leads on sightings of Madeleine McCann in other countries rather than Portugal, namely in Morroco and Malta, said Polícia Judiciária (PJ), Portuguese CID, spokesman Olegário de Sousa (…) Further investigations are being carried out centered mainly on the area of Praia da Luz itself, said Mr. Olegário de Sousa. «The clue to this mistery is in Praia da Luz», according to other police source quoted by Diário de Notícias. Note: Kate and Gerry McCann are innocent.

Once again, thank you for your support. I also read about the 7 year old who was killed on a quad bike, very very tragic and sad. Also the little baby who was mauled to death by a rottweiler (sp), I wonder if these people will face any charges. What a terrible ending for two innocent little children. The families must be numb with grief. Could these tragedies have been avoided? Who’s to say!
Swissmiss-Thats another example of what I see as real child neglect. I hope those two get what they deserve and spend the rest of their lives behind bars.

Two points emerging here which need addressing:
I have had to edit your post Kirstie, as there is absolutely no knowledge whatsoever of any details of what is/was on Murat’s computer, but stating that it is paedophilia is libellous. The fact that the PJ held his computer and returned it and did NOT arrest Murat speaks volumes that there was nothing of this sinister nature on it.
Other forums , news reports or whatever may contain certain allegations of Murat, it does NOT mean they are true, but any repetition of a libel is regarded as a seperate libel count.
Another point, could you all please discuss points raised without personal attack because people disagree with you, (not just you Kirstie) all of you. And everyone is entitled to their opinion on the events in Portugal last year, but no one is interested in what posters think of each other.

Hi all
Happy new year to you all.
Jean- Thanks for your support. We are always getting people coming on the board who don’t join us in a friendly manner and just pick up on anything, twist it around then attack ( looks like one of them has it in for you at the momet) fortunately they go away but unfortunately some come back under a different name and decide to attack some other regular user. It doesn’t matter what we post they will always be the ‘laurens’ of the world to twist it around, nit pick, then attack. In my opinion they are not worth the time of day. I know it’s very hard to ignore these people but thats the only way to get rid of them. I know I’m genuine on this board and if some people can’t see that then that their problem not mine! These are the very same ppl who attack the McCann’s at the very first opportunity and believe all the bad and insane things that are said about them, we all know that leaving three little children alone was very irresponsible parenting and stupid but they are trying desperately to find Madeleine and give then their due they are doing a better job than the police, and they must be going through hell knowing that their daughter could be suffering – but sadly ‘these attackers’ can’t seem to see that.
Jean-5821
Thank goodness that the McCann’s are getting financial help from wealthy people or else they would both be in prison by now and Madeleine swept under the carpet like so many other missing children have been, including little Ben Needham. I think all this spare European money should be used to help ordinary people who could find themselves in the same predicament as the McCann’s, and as long as there are paedophiles about there will always be cases like this!
Daisy-5822
I agree, especially the one about hiding Madeleine body in the fridge until she could be removed, the huge problem is that some people actually believe this rubbish! I have always felt strongly that Madeleine is still alive, especially if she was taken by a ring (I make that assumption based on my knowledge of how these men work) but 8 months down the line I’m not so sure.

The anti-McCanns work on the premise that a couple stupid enough to leave their small children in an unlocked apartment, who keep changing their story and who seen to believe that saturation P.R. stunts will bring their child back are not entirely trustworthy.

Hi Karen,
Yes, that too. Although, if I had the financial backing to mount a world-wide campaign to try and find my child, I would do it too. The difference is that I would NEVER have left my child alone for one second! I see the case as two separate situations (and I might be proven wrong in the end): Neglect - Parents guilty!!! Disappearance - No sure yet who is to blame.

No.
That wouldn’t even occur to an advanced and civilised person; what you are describing is the crude and violent response of a xenophobic bigot masquerading as concern for children.

Happy New Year everybody!!!
I am so convinced that this case would have been much less “sensational” if the Portugal Secrecy Laws didn’t exist. This has caused so much speculation all around the World, with some people in forums being so aggressive and insulting toward each other, that it is incredible!
There are so many far fetched theories and some of them just border the insane. I just can’t bring myself to believe that some of those scenarios could be true.
We are being bombarded with news about this case and after so long, I hope that the extension of 3 months is not granted. The “arguidos” and also we, the public, are entitled to receive the information that the PJ is holding so close to their chests! Like someone else has said before: So much emphasis on the “evidence” and not much in the “search” for little Maddie, in my opinion.
RM should be investigate further, in my opinion. I cannot believe that allegedly 8 different people could be lying about seeing him. The anti-McCanns seem to work on the premise that everybody is a lier and that everybody can be bought with the right amount of money. I don’t believe that!
Unfortunately, I think it would be an absolute miracle if Maddie is still alive.

Have just read this on another forum, which I think makes interesting reading ……….
Well, another day, and guess what….no rogatory letters yet sent.
We’re now being told (Corrieo da Manha) that the delay in the letters is because the “translation is difficult”…..
So far, we’ve been told initially, the delay was a lack of forensic evidence from the FSS; then when it became clear that wasn’t forthcoming, suddenly they were to be sent anyhow - but it would take the police a few weeks to script the interviews (why they wouldn’t have been doing that anyhow is an obvious question….) - then they were waiting the prosecutors’ review - then they’d ben sent, but the Brits were delaying - then they hadn’t been sent, and the PJ had decided to sit on their hands ’till after xmas - now, it’s because the translation is hard….of course, it’s not that the PJ could have thought in advance that they were going to need these letters translated…..it’s only the first point on the Home Office’s on-line guidelines to submitting assistance requests (last updated June ‘07)…
“Requests must be made in writing in English or be submitted with an English translation. If no translation is provided the Central Authorities will ask for one and the request will remain unexecuted until the translation is received.”
What’s the betting, next week, we’ll be told they have to be redrafted, because they’ve been eaten by the Prosecutor’s dog!
The real reason why they’re not forthcoming is far, far simpler……they have to:
“A summary of the facts of the offence(s) and details of the offence(s) committed or alleged. The request should make clear that there are reasonable grounds for suspecting that the offence has been committed and that proceedings have been instituted in relation to the offence or, if proceedings have not been instituted, that the offence is being investigated……
…..• The purpose for which the evidence or material or other assistance is required and the relevance of the assistance to the investigation or proceedings. A nexus (direct link) must be established between the facts of the case as detailed in the request and the evidence requested. This goes further than just stating that the material is relevant to the case. In reading the case summary the executing authority should be able to anticipate what assistance is required. Why is the material relevant? How does it advance the case? What supporting evidence is already in the requesting authorities’ possession or what facts are in existence that lends support to the necessity of obtaining the evidence requested?”
Note that last sentence…..
Also note, no-one is able to confirm that the Prosecutor as yet applied for the three month extension required if the opening of the PJ is going to avoid the opening of the case files to the McCanns lawyers on 3/1.
And, God knows, they want to
“Magistrate and legal expert Carlos Casimiro said police would be ‘desperate’ to extend the secrecy deadlines.
He told the Portuguese newspaper Diario de Noticias he thought the most likely outcome would be “the delay of the investigation in a desperate attempt to seek enough evidence to make an accusation”.
He added: “This is an exceptionally high-profile case and it is the country’s image which is at stake.” ”
So, it seems, it’s no longer about Justice, it’s about the reputation of Portugal’s Police.
Of course, there could be a similar problem to that with the letters…..
It appears that the supervising Judge must be presented with “reasonable cause” to delay opening of the files. Indeed, it seems the the delays are only permissible in cases which involve drug trafficing, organised crime, people trafficing, international banking fraud etc.
And, of course, the McCanns lawyers are now party to the process - and the Judge’s decision is appealable, unlike the Prosecutor’s in November. Plus, these decisions are open to review as far up as the ECHR in Strasbourg - and the Judge and Prosecutor are going to be VERY careful he doesn’t find himself being hauled over the coals for a poor decision there - it’s the sort of thing that destroys otherwise promising legal careers.

She is not full of aggression, and she is quite willing to see others points of view. I suggest that you calm down a bit, and continue posting about Madeleine, and not be so venomous about others.
We all agree that paedophilia is rife here, and judges should give harsher sentences, but it seems strange that tens of padeophiles arrive in Portugal to continue their vile deeds because their laws are more lax than ours!! Perhaps it would be a good idea for you to write letters to the powers that be, as Maggie and I have done, to try to change the situation.
I sincerely hope that the beginning of the new year begins a more thorough search for Madeleine and brings results soon.

Kate McCann: My suspicions over Murat’s alibi on the night Madeleine vanished
by VANESSA ALLEN - More by this author »
Last updated at 20:48pm on 31st December 2007
Kate McCann is suspicious about Robert Murat’s alibi for the night her daughter Madeleine vanished, it was revealed yesterday.
The mother of three has confided to friends she believes there are questions about the British expat that need to be answered.
Mrs McCann’s doubts emerged after the Daily Mail reported that seven witnesses claim to have seen Mr Murat near the McCanns’ holiday apartment on the night of May 3.
He has always insisted he was at home all night at the villa he shares with his elderly mother in Praia da Luz, near the Mark Warner holiday complex.
A friend of Kate and her husband Gerry said: ‘Kate has always felt there are questions concerning Murat and a body of evidence contrary to what he is saying.
‘Gerry doesn’t know whether he is involved but Kate has always been suspicious.’
Mrs McCann, 39, has avoided publicly voicing suspicions about Mr Murat.
She and Gerry, also 39, even called for calm after he was made an official suspect on May 14 and appealed for him to be treated fairly.
Mr Murat, a property consultant, insists he did not learn about Madeleine’s disappearance until the next morning and was not aware of the massive search going on less than 100 yards from his villa, Casa Liliana.
But a source close to Mrs McCann said: ‘We now have a number of people who have come forward quite independently of us and volunteered information directly in contradiction to what he has said.’
Three friends of the McCanns, Rachael Oldfield, Fiona Payne and Russell O’Brien, told police in July that they saw Mr Murat near the Ocean Club holiday complex while they were searching for Madeleine.
They are said to have given statements to Portuguese police saying he introduced himself to them and said: ‘I am Robert. Can I help in the search?’
Charlotte Pennington, 20, a nanny at the Mark Warner complex, has said she saw Mr Murat on May 4, when he was working as a police translator, and recognised him as a man she had seen near the Ocean Club at midnight.
The Mail told yesterday how holidaymaker Jayne Jensen, 54, also recognised the 34-year-old as a man she saw smoking a cigarette on the street corner opposite the McCanns’ apartment
An unnamed British barrister who was on holiday in Praia da Luz at the time is understood to have corroborated what Mrs Jensen said, but not made a formal statement.
Two other tourists also called the hotline operated by the McCanns’ private detective agency, Metodo 3, to report similar sightings.
Mr Murat, who has a young daughter Sofia from a failed marriage, vehemently denies any involvement in Madeleine’s disappearance. His mother Jennifer,
71, has accused Metodo 3 of bribing witnesses to change their evidence.
But a source close to the McCanns said: ‘He is her son and most mothers would protect their children. Either she knows something or she is mistaken.’
Police searched Mr Murat’s home and vehicles after he was made a suspect and are understood to have found no forensic evidence linking him to Madeleine.
He is still an official suspect along with the McCanns, who could face fresh police interviews this month.
It also emerged yesterday that Metodo 3 detectives have made another visit to Morocco to investigate a potentially significant new lead.
They have since returned to Spain, where the agency’s boss Francisco Marco has ordered a review of their investigation ahead of a new focus on Morocco this year.
He remains adamant that the North African country is the most likely place for Madeleine to have been smuggled to after she disappeared from the Algarve.
His detectives travelled there last month amid claims that they had narrowed down a region in the Rif Mountains where the four-year- old could have been held.
But the expedition is not thought to have given them a breakthrough in the case.
The agency has been silent about its operations in secret since Mr Marco was reprimanded by the McCanns for his public boasts that he would find Madeleine within six months and hoped to have her home by Christmas.
The McCanns spent a quiet New Year’s Eve with their two-year- old twins Sean and Amelie with relatives in Scotland.
Their spokesman Clarence Mitchell said they would not celebrate without their oldest daughter.

Maggie, what good do all the laws we have in this country to supposedly protect children against child abuse really do? People who abuse children get given pathetic sentences. When released are allowed to live in our communities undetected. Their identities protected. So how far forward really are we than countries such as Portugal or certain parts of Africa? The laws we have here, as far as i can see are pretty meaningless. If it means that someone is allowed to live after raping an killing a 2 year old. Taking a small child from her bath, raping and dumping her little body. Where the hell is the justice for these children. This country has nothing to be proud of. We have judges who are not even in touch with reality so how the hell can they give meaningful sentences? This country may have laws in place, but they don’t protect and paedophilia is as rife here as anywhere else in the world.
I see once again by the tone of your post, aggression, aggression, aggression. You really shouldn’t come on a forum such as this with such a closed mind. You are not always right. Get over it.

My post-Sorry, I know I’ve posted the above info on more than one occasion-but it doesn’t hurt to be reminded just what a backward country Portugal and many countries like it are. There are some parts of Northern Africa that don’t have any laws at all and anything goes. Let’s all hope and pray that Madeleine isn’t being held in such a place.
Melanie, I replied to your post without reading back on my post that offended you. If it’s the above paragraph that offended you then that is not me making abusive remarks because that is the truth of the matter. Portuguese law has only been changed in the last few years regarding child abuse and that is what I was making the’ backward ‘comment on and not Portugal in general. It’s the truth that some parts of northern Africa can rape and torture children and the law can’t touch them. I don’t make the laws in Africa or Portugal, so if your Portuguese and your angry at the lack of laws that protect child abuse please don’t vent your anger on me- I can only comments on them. In the UK it has been illegal for many years to be in possession of any kind of child abuse, whether or not the law is applied the way it should be then that’s another matter. I am sorry if I offended you but that was not my intension but I’m not going to get into a debate or argument about it.
Swissmiss-5800
Thanks.
Jean 5802
It’s just error after error, poor little Madeleine didn’t stand a change with these buffoons investigating the case.

If RM had images on his PC then just can bet your last dollar he is definitely involved! But I’m wondering why he hasn’t been arrested for that alone, it just doesn’t make sense.

NEWS / SHOWBIZMADDY: RUSSIAN IS QUIZZED OVER PORN
Sergey Malinkey
Thursday May 17,2007
By Matt Drake and David Pilditch
A RUSSIAN computer expert was last night being questioned by Portuguese police over the abduction of Madeleine McCann.
The startling new development came after it emerged he worked on a computer seized from the home of Robert Murat.
He is believed to be Moscow-born Sergey Malinka, 22, who is based in Praia da Luz and set up a business website for Murat’s property company Romigen.
Police had confirmed they were keen to find a Russian male who had a “close” business association with Murat. And yesterday morning police cars screeched up outside an apartment block and seven uniformed officers carried out a dramatic raid on the rundown fourth-floor flat owned by Malinka’s parents.
Last night Malinka accompanied police on a further search of the apartment in Praia da Luz. Officers later emerged carrying two desktop computers and what appeared to be a laptop computer. The detectives and the Russian then pulled away in two cars to carry on the questioning.
It has been reported that several links to*alleged* paedophile websites, encrypted emails and messages were found on three computers removed from Murat’s home during a dramatic police raid on Monday.
It was also claimed that video tapes showing *allegedly* depraved sexual acts and bestiality were also found at the Villa Liliana, where Murat lives with his elderly mother Jennifer.
During a lengthy police interview Murat was repeatedly asked if he had ever visited child-porn websites or if he had set up any encrypted messages. He is said to have replied “no” to both questions. Last night it was revealed that detectives had returned the 33-year-old former estate agent’s passport, wallet and mobile phone after admitting they did not have enough evidence to arrest him.
Now the investigation appears to have centred on Malinka, whose parents’ apartment is only yards from the church where Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry have prayed for her safe return.
Moments after yesterday morning’s raid, eight other officers arrived and cordoned off the immediate area. Malinka’s parents refused to comment on what they knew about the operation but did confirm that their son was 22-year-old Sergey.
The Guarda National Republicana officers stood at the police tape, keeping out reporters and curious locals and visitors.
Last night it was reported that Malinka had become the focus of police attention after a conversation he had with Murat was captured on a bugged phone. Locals said Malinka was well known in the community. Tuck Price, a friend of the Murats, described him as a “sweet kid” who “fixed everybody’s computers” around here.
Mr Price said: “He set up Robert’s website. Why they’re searching him I don’t know, but it’s still distressing to Robert. All that is pointing out that they’re not looking elsewhere.”
Yesterday Malinka confirmed he had worked for Murat recently but said he had nothing to do with Madeleine’s disappearance.
It is not clear if he was the focus of the same surveillance operation detectives launched to track Murat, his lover Michaela Walczuch and her estranged husband Luis Antonio.
All three were interviewed by police, who said on Tuesday that Murat was the only suspect.
Yesterday computer-mad Malinka was told detectives were hunting a Russian man with a criminal record for sexual violence. Hours before he was picked up he said: “I don’t know who they mean. It’s definitely not me
“I have just had all my residency papers approved and checks are always made for criminal convictions. I have done nothing wrong.
“I did some work for Robert and found him a really cool guy. He wanted a website created and I did a lot of work putting it together.”
Murat’s uncle, Ralph Everleigh who runs a B&B close to Praia da Luz, told the Daily Express his nephew was “devastated” after being suspected of kidnapping Madeleine.
The 62 year-old said: “Robert is in pieces over what has happened. He can’t believe it and has been struggling to cope with this intrusion into his life. He spoke to his ex-wife today back in England and she is in a terrible mess and very annoyed by what has happened to Robert.
“She told him that she never believed he was capable of doing what they said he had. He is so angry that he cannot tell his side but here in Portugal the law is very strict about that sort of thing.
“His mum has had to sign an oath for police so now she can’t speak about what has happened. Their house is ruined – they have dug things up and knocked down walls but it was all for nothing in the end.
“They have stopped searching now and it looks like they believe Robert that he is innocent and was with his mum on the night the little girl went missing.”

Brian Ladd is another story. I do not believe in premonitions, remote viewing, etc., but it is a fact that some major police dept. around the World have used psychics in the past to help solve cases with good success. That is a fact. Brian Ladd has apparently helped in cases of missing persons in the past, so it does leave me a bit perplexed. I do occasionally read his website about this case.
what brian ladd is doing is leading the hunt for her and directing the police off on one of his dreams, which have so far proved to be wrong,,,,,
happy new year to you all,i have spent more time on this site in the last 6 months than anywhere else and i hope it all ends soon for the family and for the child.

Madeleine: SIX key witnesses cast doubt over Robert Murat’s alibi
Last updated at 14:21pm on 31st December 2007
Six key witnesses have now cast serious doubt on the alibi of Madeleine McCann suspect Robert Murat.
The latest is a British barrister who insists he saw Mr Murat in the hours after the three-year-old vanished from her holiday apartment in Portugal - at a time when the suspect claimed he was with his mother.
Madeleine’s mother Kate has now told friends she has her own suspicions over Mr Murat, and has demanded he tells the truth over his whereabouts on the night the girl disappeared.
The key witnesses are:
• Holidaymaker Jayne Jensen, a 54-year-old businesswoman. In a statement to police she said she saw Mr Murat smoking a cigarette on the street corner opposite the apartment half an hour after Madeleine disappeared.
•The barrister, who has not been named but was on holiday and was pictured in Praia da Luz at the time Madeleine vanished. He has given a witness statement that corroborates what Ms Jensen said.
The next evening he and Ms Jensen were talking about the disappearance on an apartment balcony when Mr Murat joined them for a drink.
The barrister has described Mr Murat’s behaviour that evening as “odd”, saying Mr Murat insisted on going to change his clothes because it had been a long day - when they were certain he had already changed earlier.

Morning All and a happy Hogmanay!
I find the statement that RM will never have to prove an alibi very strange indeed!
Unless he was with Police officers that night or on some informants mission (IF that is to be believed that he is an informant) I wish PJ (again, if this is true) would make their minds up about RM, first they have him under surviellence since 4th May and now some PJ are saying they never doubted him atall, allegedly!! too weird. The fact is he has more restrictions on him than the McC’s, he was hauled in and declared an arguido long before the McC’s , his home has been searched numerous times AND whilst under Rebellos investigation, he has not been released from arguido status almost 8 months on….it was said, apparently, from his own girlfriends mouth the PJ say he had children on his pc and is a dangerous man, does he know the McCs or their friends???? some reports say yes some say no, did he say his daughter was called Madeleine or did he say she LOOKED like Madeleine??? did he wipe his hard drive clean, did he speak to Malinka, he says no, reports say yes…. there is something in all of this and i have said before we may never know what they have on him or what they have on the McCs and friends. It is true to say this is such a complex case but it terrifys me that a child can just disappear into thin air….where is she? who took her from her bed? is she alive? is she safe? and WHY????????
I cannot see a resouloution to this case one way or another in the near future -if ever and that pains me to write that. As we slip into another year it makes me feel that Madeleine is slipping further from our grasp.
I pray that someone, whoever that may be does the right thing whatever happened that night, and gives the information that is needed to see an end to this hell, if not for anyone else then for little madeleine herself. It’s what she deserves.

First of all I don’t claim to know everything that is going on in my neighbour’s house. Secondly, the ‘backward’ comment is based on all I know regarding the PJ investigation into Madeleine disappearance and the not the Portuguese people, so if it came across as that then I apologise. Thirdly paedophilia is rife all over the world not just in Portugal and the UK but we are talking Portugal here. This forum is about Madeleine and her being abducted in Portugal not ‘nearer to home’. I don’t think my comments are abusive at all, just an expression of how I feel about the PJ in general and there has been much worse said on here.

Natasja asked for more information about the man and woman and the link between them and Murat.
We found this article: http://news.independent.co.uk/europe/article2533991.ece
It says: A man who said his daughter and other girls had been photographed by a man with a blonde woman in a Renault Clio with British plates at Sagres, near Praia, insists the same woman was caught on CCTV at a service station near Lagos. That would have been on the A22 to the Spanish border on the night of Madeleine’s disappearance.
The couple, reportedly in their 40s, had been staying at an appartment in the Solimar apartments in Borgau, near Praia, where the petrol station CCTV images were being distributed.
We searched for these appartemens and look what we found!
This is the address:
Rua D.
Vasco da Gama, 5
8600-722 Lagos
Google Earth shows that it’s close to the harbour (marina) of Lagos.
And look at the site of the Solimar appartments !!! Who’s name do you see?

We passed this information to M3.
The police doesn’t seem to do a lot of research do they. There IS a link between Murat and this couple.
Wish you all a happy newyear. And let us all pray for Madeleines safe return.

Hi All
In the Sunday Express the piece on Madeleine today is that ‘Murat won’t have to prove alibi’. What on earth is all this about.
His lawyer has stated that he will never have to prove that he is innocent, even though eight people have said that they saw him around the Ocean Club on the night that Madeleine was abducted.
It also states that ‘Francisco Pagarette revealed for the first time that two Portuguese police officers have given sworn statements that Murat could not have been at the scene. He said senior detectives had confided in him that they had never doubted the officers, who worked with Murat when he acted as their interpreter the following week. Mr Pagarette has now branded the sisters and six other supposed witnesses as ‘liars’.’
How on earth can the Portuguese police question the validity of eight people’s statements, and disbelieve every one of them. This really does reek of a cover-up by someone.
The paper also says ‘ Mr Pagarette said detectives know what happened to Madeleine and the names of those involved.’ Murat’s mother says ‘I find it very strange that eight months on, they’re putting him in the frame, Robert’s never changed his alibi. He was at home with me that night.’
DOES THE WOMAN NOT READ THE NEWSPAPERS - All of these reported sightings of her son were made shortly after Madeleine was abducted, not eight months on as she is quoted as saying.
It really is getting so frustrating. I feel like going to Portugal and beating it out of them myself. This little girl has got to be found, and soon.

Hi Melanie:
I don’t think that Maggie meant it like that ….. Child abuse unfortunately is everywhere in the WOrld….. for instance… in the US one little 3 yr boy just died because his parents didn’t feed him and the social services took the other 3 kids away from them. And, you’re right.. one doesn’t know if our/your neighbors leave their kids alone……

Backward country - Portugal? If serious observations are not quoted - then I really object to these off - the - cuff comments being thrown in - Child abuse in Portugal is considerably less than in the UK - so please before you make abusive comments - just take a close look at home - Can you honestly say you know everything which is going on behind the closed doors of your neighbour’s house - the habit of leaving children alone is in my opinion “backward” - it was probably OK to go out and leave your door unlocked going back 50 years - not so now. So the “backward” ones are the McCanns - not the Portugese
