Drudge Reports And Blitzing The Floods
“LOOTING, PANIC BUYING…” says the headline of the knowing Drudge Report. But what does it know? Not much.
Tewkesbury is the UK’s New Orleans. Or not. There is no looting. Panic buying means buying bottled water.
And over at the BBC, the water’s German:
It was not only businesses which were counting the cost. Householders were returning to homes still soaking after the flood water had subsided.
As she surveyed the ruined sofa in her living room, pensioner Jean Vale, 66, admitted she was on the edge of tears.
“I feel like I’m two minutes away from crying,” she said.
“But the only thing you can do is laugh. You’ve got to show the blitz spirit.”
Are we defeated? Never!
On Friday, Bill and Madeleine Hindley made sure their home was looking its best ahead of a visit from a prospective buyer.
But their dreams of making a sale were shattered hours later when flood waters swept through the house causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.
The couple are now living upstairs and relying on friends and relatives for supplies as they wait for the flood waters to recede in Naunton, Gloucestershire.
Mrs Hindley, 75, said: “I’m really browned off with the whole thing now. We’ve been here 20 years and nothing like this has ever happened before.”
So not exactly New Orleans. But no less depressing…
