WRAP It And Bin It
THE Waste and Resources Action Programme “works in partnership to encourage and enable businesses and consumers to be more efficient in their use of materials and recycle more things more often. This helps to minimise landfill, reduce carbon emissions and improve our environment”.
The Waste and Resources Action Programme uses up a lot of web space. It’s a mouthful to say.
It produces papers entitled “WRAP to Review Growing Role of Materials Recovery Facilities in Producing Quality Recyclates”, “WRAP Board Extends Its Strategic Skills Base With Appointment Of Three New Non Executive Directors” and “WRAP Welcomes CLG Select Committee Report – and tips Anaerobic Digestion technology as key to unlocking hidden energy in food waste.”
Anorak is in the business of energy conservation and I shall from hereon call it WRAP.
And WRAP is in the news. The Telegraph mentions its call for the introduction of European-style 140-litre bins. Currently Britons enjoy the 240-litre models.
These are the 4×4 of the bin world and should be fazed out in favour of nippy European bins, possibly made in Italy and liable to rust and joyriding.
The idea is that with smaller bins householders will not be able to depose of so much rubbish and so be forced to recycle more.
And it will be one bin for all. As the Telegraph says WRAP “warns against large families being left with the large bins in case they become the victims of ‘bin envy’.”
How this envy is manifest is unspecified but Anorak foresees smaller bins being placed within his larger bin and auctioned off as a family home with granny annex.
Or else used to solve the country’s shark problem. This is the silly season. Isn’t it?
