Madeleine McCann On Your Doormat And In The Loire Valley
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY EXPRESS front page: MADELEINE: Parents are to sue over claims they gave her fatal overdose. (Plus page 7, with logo: THE HUNT FOR MADELEINE: Day 120).
THE WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER brings the news that the McCanns’ legal action is against the Portuguese publication Tal & Qual. (The Express, of course, has dutifully repeated all the allegations and smears that have emanated from the Portuguese press, for the delectation and disgust of Maddywatchers back home.) Spokeswoman Justine McGuinness says the McCanns “are not going to be a doormat any more”.
Meanwhile, the paper says the hunt has switched to a campsite in the Loire valley after sightings by holidaymakers.
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 2: Madeleine parents to sue newspaper
The Telegraph reports that the McCanns say they are suing to clear their name, not for the money.
THE TIMES page 5: Candle of hope for Madeleine
The paper says that Madeleine’s classmates “said a poignant prayer” yesterday, on what should have been her first day at school.
DAILY MAIL page 6: McCanns to sue over ‘killers’ slur
The paper says the McCanns believe it is time to stand firm against the allegations.
DAILY MIRROR page 11: Maddy school’s prayers
The paper says the McCanns spent a quiet day with their twins in Praia da Luz.
THE STAR page 22: SCHOOL’S SAD WAIT FOR MISSING MADDIES: Chair and locker are saved for her
The empty chair, locker and coat peg are once again invoked. Bishop Ellis headteacher Gail Neill says: “We are deeply saddened that we cannot yet welcome Madeleine McCann.”
THE SUN page 12: MADDIE SCHOOL PRAYER TRIBUTE
The paper also reports on the candle that is being kept burning at the school.
THE INDEPENDENT and THE GUARDIAN: No Madeleine news today.

Why havent the McCanns and friends had their hard drives looked into?………

187 - Great points on every level. Regurgitating what is in the press already is not grounds for libel. Since we’re not card carrying members of the press - at least I don’t think anyone here is - we have a right to comment and form opinoins on what we read on a message board forum. As for the laundry hanging out to dry, I’ve got the dryer going this morning. The husband wouldn’t walk out even if I paid him to do it. He’s got a great thing going on here and he knows it!.
Just curious, why are the woman (and Moderation…lol!) being targeted here? Many of us females agree that the Mccanns may have been involved. The opinons on innocent and guilt cross all genders of this forum.

Way to go Moriarty … absolutely brilliant !

Moderation - apologies from me too, I also mis-understood what you were saying. It is indeed very easy to trace anyone online through their ISP, even through a re-router, if they do not know what they are doing.
199 - At no point have the PJ EVER said that the parents are ‘totally innocent’ - they have said that they are not ’suspects’ … which MEANS that they have not been declared ‘Arguido’ - it does NOT necessarily mean that the PJ are not suspicious of them.
In fact it is to the PJ’s advantage that they are considered ‘witnesses’ as, under Portuguese law a witness is not permitted to lie (whereas an Arguido can).

Direct from Saint Gerry’s blog
“Those of who you that read the blog regularly know how difficult it has been for us not to respond to many of the slurs against our behaviour leading up to Madeleines disappearance. We have consistently stated that we will not put new information into the public domain that might jeopardise the investigation and in fact, we are constrained by Portuguese Law as witnesses from doing so.
There has been some wild speculation reported in the press about what may have happened to Madeleine. Most of the innuendo regarding Kate and me has died down in light of the statements from the official Portuguese Police spokesperson. However last Friday, a Portuguese newspaper published a front-page headline ‘PJ believes that the parents killed Maddie’. We firmly believe that the report was speculative, defamatory and published despite official statements to the contrary.
As well as damaging our personal and professional reputations, such allegations smear the investigation, the campaign to find Madeleine and cause great offence and anxiety to all our family. This is why, after careful consideration, we have issued a writ against the newspaper for defamation. Our focus has, and always will be, on doing our best to help find Madeleine. This lurid allegation is so serious and wide of the mark that we feel it cannot go unchallenged.
The legal expenses for the proceedings will not be paid from Madeleines fund”
Well I am certainly glad he cleared that one up I can tell you.
2 points though….
1. they “firmly believe that the report was speculative, defamatory and published despite official statements to the contrary” Very strange indeed. Perhaps believing is enough, or maybe he cannot say “know” because that may be libellous…..
2. “The legal expenses for the proceedings will not be paid from Madeleines fund”. That is really good to know, thanks Gerry. And might I suggest that if you are not using the fund to actually look for Madeleine that you start to refund people who have donated. Maybe you can do that after your daily jog, interviews and answering emails? Or perhaps after you have spent an afternoon on your PC whilst the twins are still at the creche?

170 - alcohol also diminishes risk assessment and impairs judgment. This could come into play if, if, if there was any sedation taking place.
September 1st, 2007 at 1:45 pm
161 - I am sorry you find it “tasteless” but your information is inaccurate about Patsy Ramsey, Vandersloot and Murat. Yes, Murat’s defense attorney has said a lot of things to defend him, that’s what defense attorney’s do. But it was published in numerous publications which were never sued for defamation of charachter or anything along those lines by Murat. The hard drive is still in the possesion of the PJ, they have not cleared him of carrying kiddie porn. The publications who carried these articles on Murat were not sued and he is still on the suspect list too. In fact, he’s not even sued the Mccanns or anyone which any one would do by this point, if he were an innocent man. I am sticking to my story and basing the information on what I have seen published. And you can choose to agree or disagree. He has not officially been cleared as a suspect in this. Although I personnally think he’s not involved. To Penster’s original question, why is he still an arguido if he’s an innocent man? I couldn’t tell you.
I’m happy to hear that you like where you’re living. And so do I
We should leave it at that so not to insult one another’s lifestyle choices. This is about a missing girl not a living choice.

202…… I know…. but we are allowed to hope against all odds - miracles have happened before. Bless Madeleine, wherever she may be XX

159 - Relax, you are safe. What you are talking about on your computer is spyware or “adware” = where you can inadvertently respond to some email or ad that then drops a cookie on your browser and starts sending you all this unsolicited advertising, popups, page takeovers, all sorts of rich media products that you don’t want. You can elimiate adware (and the viruses that they come with) by downloading anti spyware devices and installing McAfee or another anti-viral software. If you don’t know what to do, and want to eliminate it altogehter, call the Geek Squad, or the equivlant to come to your home and take care of it for you. I can guarantee if you are getting all sorts of popups and offers especially late at nite, you’re PC is operating much slower than it should be and you can clear all that out and speed up your system.
This is not what they are talking about w/ Murat. The police know the difference and getting a popup for porn or an ad that says “come play w/ me tonite” w/ a naked guy on it, is it NOT the same as kiddie porn. Trust me, they know how to distinquish the difference btwn spyware and downloadable porn. On a side note, do you know the number one reason people surf the web today? It is to download porn. Secondly is to buy an automobile and thirdly is for travel purposes. Refinancing Mortgagage/rates and real estate follow soon after. But to my point, we have this amazing new media in the last 20 yrs that has risen to unbelievable heights over nite, and the number one reason people surf the web (according to Jupiter Media) is to find porn? That’s not the number one reason people watch TV I can assure you of that. Jupiter is the largest internet research company. The Neilsen equivalent for the internet.
So Robert Murat is not alone in surfing tthe web for porn. Now, I won’t get into the stats on men vs. women on the web. It would fire up too many people. We’ll see what they do about the kiddie porn and Murat. Personally, I’ve never seen his hard drive, I am just quoting what I’ve read.

If sedatives WERE used, this doesn’t necessarily point to accidental death and a cover up (as alleged). But it would mean that the girl was easier to snatch in a drugged state. Just a thought….

180…..penster….that pretty much sums it up in a few lines - well done!!!
May that prescious child soon be found….safe and well XX
September 1st, 2007 at 12:06 pm
Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t recall the police claiming that the parents are totally innocent at any stage? I do recall a statement being made that they are not suspects - AT THIS STAGE!?
September 1st, 2007 at 12:03 pm
Is it really likely that all the horrendous “police leaks” about this case are true? I mean if the leaks are true, then surely the police, would not officially claim - again and again - that they believe the parents are totally innocent?

Why did the police use sniffer dogs on the Mccann’s hire car EARLIER?
Why did the police use sniffer dogs on their friend’s hire cars EARLIER?

Why did the police use sniffer dogs on the McCanns hire car?
Why did the police use sniffer dogs on their friends hire cars?
If they are not suspects?????

I know… I was refferring to anyone being sued on these forums and it was a joke!
I am sure there is an endless supply of small time lawyers that want their name known and will provide services to high profile celebs for free!
September 1st, 2007 at 11:48 am
childsafety I read that the fund is not going to pay for the legal action.
September 1st, 2007 at 11:48 am
Ok Moderation (apologies then I misunderstood what you were saying). BTW I do agree with you on how easy it is to trace an IP address!
September 1st, 2007 at 11:46 am
If anyone gets sued on a forum by the McCanns will they be sued with their own money….assuming they gave to a fund imagining that it would be used to look for Madeleine!
September 1st, 2007 at 11:43 am
Aww thats lovely. We all know how to say sorry and mean it.
September 1st, 2007 at 11:41 am
*”richard”, sorry
September 1st, 2007 at 11:40 am
Julie I certainly didn’t mean you and the many others who post opinions for or against anyone… I mean the ones who post certain stuff as fact.
As in child porn found on Murats PC.
It is rumoured that there are many dubious ambulance chasing lawyers clicking frantically on these forums just looking for stuff to save and use if poss.
I wasn’t having a go at anyone!!
September 1st, 2007 at 11:33 am
One thing is for sure DNA testing can be done in 24 hours.
My husband worked for years doing that sort of thing.
If they are sorting out stuff from inside a vaccuum cleaner that would
take a while.
But DNA testing and even testing blood traces for gases that show sedatives would either be visible or not.
September 1st, 2007 at 11:31 am
Moderation, there is a huge difference in making a direct accusation and voicing an opinion of a theory that you have! So quite frankly I am not of the opinion that most of the recent Anorak posters (barring one or two who come across as making a “direct accusation”) are leaving themselves open to anything!
What are the McCann’s going to do, sue me because quite frankly I don’t like them, and I think it’s disgusting the way they are “riding this wave”? And I also have numerous suspicions as to why I think they could be involved? No, I feel that’s a bit far-fetched! They’d be suing thousands of people for the rest of their lives!
BTW Richard, chill out a bit … you’re obviously reading all of this to get sick and tired of it! And anyway, I don’t have a husband who’s going to walk out LOL.

oh my…
*some HAIRS should be around…
September 1st, 2007 at 11:28 am
your right robert, but best i find your comment about “moderation’”…
im wondering if it is possible to detect traces of sedatives in the kids hairs ? i mean as with other drugs like cocain ?
and even if there is no blood of maddy in the apartment, some hears should have been found…
because in the article posted most recent above they claim - have never given them sedatives.
September 1st, 2007 at 11:28 am
Lets look at patterns.
What we know of Gerry and Kate before the event.
We know that they lie.
They lied about checking on the kids every 10 mins every night.
They lied about checking on the kids every half an hour every night.
We know this because the neighbour heard Madeleine crying for hours and as you say complained.
They lied about the shutters being jammied open.
We know this because the police confirmed that there was no sign of forcible entry.
People follow patterns.

Thanks Molly, the tabloids just love a good stereotype.
