THE WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER brings the news that the McCanns’ legal action is against the Portuguese publication Tal & Qual. (The Express, of course, has dutifully repeated all the allegations and smears that have emanated from the Portuguese press, for the delectation and disgust of Maddywatchers back home.) Spokeswoman Justine McGuinness says the McCanns “are not going to be a doormat any more”.
Meanwhile, the paper says the hunt has switched to a campsite in the Loire valley after sightings by holidaymakers.

The Telegraph reports that the McCanns say they are suing to clear their name, not for the money.

The paper says that Madeleine’s classmates “said a poignant prayer” yesterday, on what should have been her first day at school.

The paper says the McCanns believe it is time to stand firm against the allegations.

The paper says the McCanns spent a quiet day with their twins in Praia da Luz.

The empty chair, locker and coat peg are once again invoked. Bishop Ellis headteacher Gail Neill says: “We are deeply saddened that we cannot yet welcome Madeleine McCann.”

Damn Portuguese are revolting criminals. They kidnap a little girl and instead of giving back her, they blame the parents, they take to them into hell in order to they return to home without their small innocent girl. Meanwhile, pedophile Gonçalo Amaral sells the girl far from the eyes of the world and the PJ says “amen”. Damn Portuguese pigs!

262 - I don’t think Jonathan was directing paragraph 2 of his post at you Julie- but responding to a general question on libel from earlier in the day. I think he’s just trying to be genuinely helpful and give his insight. He’s let you know that it’s an unlikely scenario for that to happen unless there’s a serious cause to do so, as in a criminal link. Which there is not. I don’t know who/where or what brought this subject up today but there’s a lot of misinformation floating around on this subject on this forum. I believe Jonathan was trying to shed some light on the reality anything like that ever happening. He’s trying ease people’s minds about it not stir up controversy.

As a teacher who protects kids, I know in my heart that the outcome for this poor little girl will be bad. The parents know. I just wish they would let it go and tell all….There is really no other logical explanation of what happened. I mean the narrow timeframe of the supposed “abduction” alone shoots it down. The police know, they just need the proof. I think that all the smoke blown up peoples ***** has confused the process…

Yes indeedy. I’m scared that these particularly irresponsible and neglectful parents are not only going to get away, scot free, with their failings, (or perhaps even worse crimes?), but that they are going to do so and escape both with perceived ‘honour’, dignity and sympathy; not to mention a Million plus Sterling that they are free to spend, (or at least their appointed ‘board’ are. To all our American cousins;- My previous post was not specifically aimed nor meant to offend any of you. It was more aimed at one particular person who, thankfully, does not inhabit these forums much these days, (I’m not going to mention any names because KARALYN clearly needs some therapy!!). Picking up on the IP address discussion. IP addresses are the endpoints of network traffic. Think of them as telephone numbers. There is lots of routing of data packets going on (bit like voice and telephone exchanges). Usually, when you connect to the internet via an ISP you are assigned an IP address by them. That assignment will be logged. Anoraks’s server will log your IP address when you make posts. In short you are tracable via your IP address, so you should exercise reasonable care over what you say. In practice, the server for this site is US hosted. A warrant in the US would be required to access the IP address log of posters, then warrants for each ISP etc, so the process would be non trivial and would only be undertaken if there was serious cause to do so. I’m sure Mods & Admin can comment further if they so choose on this, but the warning stands.

The regent ward is the ward in which the entwhistle family resided and it is the most central of the 5 wards in great yarmouth.

Great Yarmouth has no more or less deprivation thatn the town where I live.
There’s good and bad everywhere. Would you like my cousins address? Nice detached bungalow on the edge of the town. They’ve got two cars, three cats and, shock horror, a CLEANER!
AND they’re Catholics who holiday in Italy. ohmigod. Hang em.

I was thinking of going to Portugal before this happened and looked up reviews on that resort..prob why I am so interested now since I almost went there.

The Mark Warner staff were superb. The childcare facilities were great and when our son was ill they couldn’t have done more to help.

They have a system which we had never come across before which was to ring the door bell to enter hte poolside area, where we had to hand our passes in to staff’ On our first day it took us a while to realise that we were supposed to ring the bell! so made a bit of a noise trying to get in! and we were asked if we were staying for lunch, thinking that we were supposed to pre book we said no. If you are not staying for lunch there are certain areas that you cant sit in as the poolside area is mainly reserved for guests that are dining there, However we soon realised that you dont have to pre book. Compared to the cafes on the beach front it was very expensive to eat there, but the food was good and the service fantastic. It was so quiet there all you could hear were the birds and people turning pages in their books, music etc is not allowed in this area but there are two other pools if you want to splash around and not worry that you are disturbing any one..

The child care was excellent.Would I go with Mark Warner again? Yes I would, for the child care and sports facilities. On the plus side, our kids had a great time and the MW nannies were superb.

Quiet village with not a huge amount to see or do so lovely if you just want to get away and sit on the amazing sandy beach with a book! Down side.. not great for a buggy- our little one was bumped around on the cobbled streets, and not great pavements. A bit of hill down to the beach- ok on the way down, not so great coming back.

Unfortunately when we arrived we were shown to an apartment on a side street, which wasn’t close to the pool or restaurants or beach, didn’t have access to parking and was dark, dank, had the softest most uncomfortable bed in the world and seemed a world away from the picture painted by the brochure. Going into the property, as it was ground floor, made me feel unsafe, as the door to the premises could only be classed as flimsy, and the accomodation, facilities internally and furniture at best could be described as very very basic .
The only area to sit outside, was on a patio overlooked by everyone walking up the road - and it was a busy road - traffic being a considerable problem in the village and pedestrians constantly walking to and from the beach, sometimes noisilly. This wasn’t a peaceful relaxing accomodation as promised in the brochure as a result.
We left the club soon after arriving, the rep couldn’t (or wouldn’t) move us to a higher floor or any alternate accomodation, they said it was full, I was pretty unhappy and we left and moved to a different hotel. I couldn’t stay there as I just didn’t feel safe or that the accomodation lived up to its brochure. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Yep, this is the same resort where Madeleine McCann was abducted.
The biggest negative is the walking especially Rua Direicta which is the main cobbly road and and as I mentioned, a distance away. The cars whizz pass you so fend for your life.The Mark Warner childcare was great for our daughter, she was the only one in her age group so she was spoilt. The childcare is btwn 9-12:30 and 2:30-5:30. I think that’s a bit limiting but that’s just my view. You can arrange for the evening service as well but I don’t know anyone who used it.
