THE WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER brings the news that the McCanns’ legal action is against the Portuguese publication Tal & Qual. (The Express, of course, has dutifully repeated all the allegations and smears that have emanated from the Portuguese press, for the delectation and disgust of Maddywatchers back home.) Spokeswoman Justine McGuinness says the McCanns “are not going to be a doormat any more”.
Meanwhile, the paper says the hunt has switched to a campsite in the Loire valley after sightings by holidaymakers.

The Telegraph reports that the McCanns say they are suing to clear their name, not for the money.
THE TIMES page 5: Candle of hope for Madeleine
The paper says that Madeleine’s classmates “said a poignant prayer” yesterday, on what should have been her first day at school.

The paper says the McCanns believe it is time to stand firm against the allegations.
DAILY MIRROR page 11: Maddy school’s prayers
The paper says the McCanns spent a quiet day with their twins in Praia da Luz.

The empty chair, locker and coat peg are once again invoked. Bishop Ellis headteacher Gail Neill says: “We are deeply saddened that we cannot yet welcome Madeleine McCann.”

The paper also reports on the candle that is being kept burning at the school.

As I said a couple of days ago, I felt that ‘the Mcanns were stupid to say that they were not going to sue the Portugeses press’ as this was basically giving carte blance for all the gutter press ie less than desireable rags out there, to print anything they bloody wished in order to keep their much loved revenue up.
They are not in the least bit interested in Madeleine Mcann ever being found. They just want headlines regardless. The UK Gutter Press are basically in their pockets also. They are also very bloody in their likemidedness. HOWEVER, THANKFULLY - the Mcanns have made a very intelligent turn about which was also very strongly encouraged by the PJ as they have also been victim of the likes of T&Q etc.
I would be very disappointed if the Mcanns settled out of court. This issue for them I believe is not an issue of money. They have been subject to horrendous personal attacks at a very traumatic time. Personally I would love to see these papers go down for this.

Madeleine’s father, Gerry McCann, recently spoke at the Edinburgh International Television Festival, where he said a lack of facts had put pressure on journalists to write up speculation as fact.
May 3: Madeleine McCann disappears from holiday apartment in Praia da Luz.
May 10: Portuguese police announce they are winding down search.
May 12: ‘Find Madeleine’ poster is published online.
May 14: ‘Find Madeleine’ website is launched and later features a daily blog written by Gerry McCann.
May 15: Robert Murat is classified as a suspect by police.
May 17: Video appeal is launched. ‘Find Madeleine’ website receives 50 million hits in 24 hours.
May 25: Description of a man seen carrying a child on night of abduction is released by police. McCanns describe their fellings of guilt at leaving daughter in apartment.
May 30: Gerry and Kate McCann travel to Rome to meet the Pope.
Jun 5: Parents are asked by a reporter in Berlin if they were involved Madeleine’s disappearance. Mr McCann says he has not heard that they are connsidered suspects.

Do this Mccann have nothing to do than to sue newspaper? The donation is given for finding Madeleine and not for Madeleine’s parents to defend themself.

It’s getting to the point where I’m coming to believe that the McCann’s have been receiving coaching lessons from Mohamed al Fayed!!! Just how much longer can they keep it up? I suppose when it reaches the stage where they get around to accusing Prince Phillip’s involvement in the plot we’ll be convinced Al Fayed is indeed involved. Maybe the white van that’s been seen is getting mixed up with the white Fiat Uno seen in the tunnel under the Pont d’Alma 10 years ago.

IF the T&Q paper has published a story saying “the PJ said the McCanns killed Maddie” then the result is a foregone conclusion. The paper will have to prove that the PJ did say this, which of course they haven’t so the result is a forgone conclusion in favour of the MacCanns. The paper will either attempt to prove some dodgy PJ source said so (which then fixes a leak for the PJ) or they will just back down and cough up. I suspect the latter and it won’t even go to court.

Well one friend thought she saw a man carrying a bundle which later turned out to be a very good description of Murat carrying a blonde haired child in a blanket.
Remember that when the friends questioned Murat face to face the friend was adamant and was shouting …it was you…it was you…or words to that effect!
What I found very strange was that the McCanns borrowed Murats car in the initial search for Madeleine. Are we to believe that the friend …forgot….to mention to the McCanns that she had seen him carry her off….hmmmm!

I honestly don’t think the media give a damn. They had their fun with Murat, sensed a while ago that he was in all probability totally innocent and just threw him to one side. Now I guess they have new quarry in their sights…
If and when Mr Murat gets his name cleared, I certainly hope he employs a savvy lawyer and sets about collecting some debts.

It is all very, very, very suspicious to say the least. I think the obvious question is why are they still in Portugal? Can they come home? Have they been told that they shouldnt go home or that they cannot go home? The Tapas 2 spin it how they like and say “shouldnt”, the portuguese press spin it how they like and intimate “cannot”

I don’t want to add to confusion, but I think that there may be something lost in translation concerning the position of the PJ.
what I always saw in Portuguese and Spanish interviews of Mr Sousa was that the Mccanns “were not suspects” and that they have “never been suspects”.
And that is true if you take the literal translation of “suspects” as a legal status in the investigation. In the portuguese version of what I read of Mr Sousa”s statements he did not suggest that the portuguese police had in anyway rulled out the involvement of the Mccanns in the disappearance of Madeleine. He did rule out that they were at this stage or in the past “suspects” (as opposed to status of “witnesses”).
He would not do that anyway - since he would not have any particular reason to rule out anyone’s involvement at this stage of the investigation.
Concerning the libel story - the PJ will never admit to supporting or being in anyway a party to a libel dispute of this nature, Tal & Qual will never be obliged to reveal the source of the information and this is all another sad headline-grabbing piece of information coming from a very poorly-organised mccann pr campaign that has gone out of control.

The directors are not paid as directors of the company. However, they may, if family members, be beneficiaries of the Fund and they may, as is the case with some registered charities, be paid for providing services to the Fund. The Fund has established conflict of interest policies to deal with these situations.
Two of the directors, Brian Kennedy and John McCann, are members of Madeleine’s family
It is true that family members, including those on the Board, can benefit from the Fund.
Those directors who are members of Madeleine’s family cannot vote in discussions relating to payments to family members. They also cannot sign cheques payable to themselves or other members of the family. The only exception to this was some small initial payments to family members made before the independent directors had signed the bank mandate
One of the reasons the Fund was established was to support Madeleine’s family. The objects specifically include financial assistance. The directors approve all payments to Kate and Gerry, with family members not having a vote.
To date, much of the expenditure incurred by Kate and Gerry has been covered by donations in kind being made by generous benefactors.

if it did come true my parents would be mortified. They thought I was lucifer when I question them about the money they gave the fund. I pointed out the fund had been set up by her uncle after he had given up his job and so she was paying his wages.
She was disgusted with me and called me heartless and I had to go home and cook my own tea

this fund obviously doesnt have a special charity status. so they can do with the money whatever they want, as long as they pay taxes as a regular company has to do.

i suggested that if the mccanns were on trial would they use the fund to defend themselves in an ironic post several weeks ago.

Portugal police are obviously working with the British Police on this one so I am sure they will send them back to Portugal if they need them.
A lot of people are asking the question about where the money for the court case is coming from.
Maybe they should have read the …where the moneys going… page before they parted with the dosh. It does clearly state that it will be used to …support… Madeleines family and legal fees.
However I think people were expecting it to be used to fight the abductor in court ….a fight for Madeleine….not against a trashy newspaper.
Theoretically if the McCanns were on trial for Madeleines disappearance could they use the Fund money to pay their legal fees?
That is a question I would love an answer to!
