Maddywatch: Gazing At Madeleine McCann
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “Madeleine. We blundered says her mum.”
THE WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER says Gerry and Kate McCann erred. It looks at their interview in the Times yesterday and learns that losing their daughter “shattered everything”.
“THE HUNT FOR MADELEINE” has reached day 125. Madeleine is still missing. And the couple “both doctors” are still searching.
THE SUN page 13: “Maddie parents united.” Gerry and Kate “put on a touching show of love and unity as pals insisted their marriage is as strong as ever.” They held hands, walked, sat and “gazed out to sea”.
THE MAIL: “McCanns show their unity as they plan to come home.”
The parents of Madeleine McCann are strolling hand in hand along the beach. They are “sat gazing out to sea”. (See photograph.) Mrs McCann wears “checked trousers, a black vest top and sunglasses”. Gerry’s clothes are not detailed.
TIMES page 11: Stuart Paul Sparks allegedly stole cash donated to help in the hunt for Madeleine from a charity box in a store in Belgrave Gate, Leicester, in May. Mr Sparks, 37, from Ickworth Close, Leicester, was granted unconditional bail at the city’s magistrates’ court and told to reappear there September 18.
GUARDIAN: Online site features an advert: “Madeleine Mccann Kidnapper Found? Find Out with the Free News…”
MIRROR, INDEPENDENT, TELEGRAPH: No Madeleine news today.

Have mixed feelings over the McCanns ….. don’t know if they did it or not. I know I wouldn’t have left my kids on there own at that age - could have wandered off under a car, fallen in the swimming pool, anything… Well they have paid for it now.
September 8th, 2007 at 3:08 pm
We’re not a bunch of school kids Bernard! You’re not the headmaster. What kind of world would it be if you can’t express your opinion and they are at the end of the day only opinions not facts.
September 8th, 2007 at 2:46 pm
This is not a non-newstory Dr Watson.
If we ever live in a world where a child disappears and it is not a news story, that would be one sad place to live.
Now let that be an end to it.
This post number 326 is now the final post. Please do not post again. Ever.

Yeah, good call Bernard.
I’ll stop posting when the media stop thrusting this non-newsstory down our throats and deliberately avoid EVERY opportunity to tug our heartstrings in order to sell more copies of their pithy, pitifiul papers.
How’s THAT for a deal, mate?

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
It always amazes me how quick people are to judge others and hold them to higher standards than they would follow in their own lives.
We are all human, and we all make mistakes. These people made a terrible mistake and they are paying a terrible price for it. They don’t need a pack of baying idiots to tell them that.
As others have pointed out before me, none of us were present at the scene of the crime. None of us have met the family. We cannot possibly know whether they are innocent or guilty. In such circumstances we should - like the law - assume they are innocent until proven guilty.
To leap to judgement so readily shows an ignorant lynch mob mentality.
This thread should now end. I suggest none of us post any more until we have more evidence.
I amt herefore officially announcing the ending of this thread.
Please no more posts.

So now the news are saying they’re suspects. About bastard time, to be honest. I’ve been an opponent of that pair’s irresponsible and fatal miscalculation since May 3. I’m not sure I believe that Kate McCann killed her daughter *with her own hands*. But the simple fact is that both Kate and her husband Gerry ARE suspects and SHOULD be convincted: for the *inadvertent* mansalaughter of their daughter. Why? They left her in a ground-floor flat alone! That alone should put them in jail.
Is it any wonder why whoever took the poor kid didn’t take her siblings, too? It’s all very curious. This new evidence that blood has appeared in a hire car 25 days AFTER “Maddy” went missing doesn’t add up. How can they have kept “Maddy” a secret and holed up after 25 days of intense media molestation, to have fresh blood to drop in to a hire car? Eh?
I don’t believe they’re first degree murderers, even by accident. But then again, if The Soham Murderer Ian Huntley is to be believed, then he murdered those two girls by accident and had to get rid of the evidence.
Well, whatever, however this little girl has expired - there’s no doubt about it. Both Kate and Gerry need to atone not only for their fatal error and judgement, but also for the waste of UK taxpayer’s resources.
Oh, I’m sorry, you thought those sniffer dogs, psychiatrists and specialities flew over and worked a high profile case FOR FREE?
And let’s not forget the severe rammifications of Robert Murat - the poor English bastard who’s in the wrong place, at the wrong time, living with his mother. They’re painting this INNOCENT (until proven guilty, of course) MAN as Norman Bates from Psycho!
STOP IT! WE’RE NOT STUPID! FACE IT! You have NO news! STOP SPECULATING! You’re only causing trouble…
And speaking of which, Hey Sam, put down that News of the World for two seocnds and grow a fucking self opinion and half a fucking brain, you simpleton. Pedo’s have many secret underground rooms??? Tubes running up through the house??? Are you FUCKING KIDDING ME??? Hey, maybe The Sun is looking for editorial staff Sam, perhaps you should apply and use that last post as an example of the fine journalism you’re displaying - after all, it’s no diffferent from what we’re reading in the papers. How dare you triovialise and romanticise such a complicated process, you poor misguided child.
You really think that whoever took “Maddy” would read your post and sympathise? Christ, if I had Maddy, I wouldn’t return the poor girl back to her parents. Look what happened last time! I’d hand her to the authorities under the strict condition that she be NOT returned to those irresponsible halfwittted morons. You can be rest assured the irony of the following: whoever has “Maddy” now certainly WON’T be having her snatched from them!
Incidentally, can we ***STOP*** referring to young Madeleine as “Maddy”: it implies we all know her personally, and thus, make us feel closer to her. We have NO idea what the poor girl is (or was) going through. Heaven help us, let’s leave the poor victim out of it and punish those two witless morons. They threw Al Capone in jail for tax evasion. Let’s invent some shit and throw the McCanns in jail for “murdering” their kid AND for wasting OUR money rectifying the damn mistake - HOW DARE THEY! And HOW DARE the media cheerlead this crass, twatty mistake…
September 7th, 2007 at 5:10 pm
Sam you are definitely half a bubble off in that brain of yours. Robert Murat is innocent and people like you make me sick!
September 7th, 2007 at 3:43 pm
Please don’t leave without her, and make sure no one pushes you this way, don’t leave without your daughter, as soon as you move they will move her, she is alive and suffering because of confinment, your daughter is scared and given age expected, Look benieth Marat’s lower room found.
It is a fact Pedo’s bastards as I call they but homes up to 5 or more and make rooms out of concrete, the tubes run up through the house so no sniffer dogs can sent. If I know this information why don’t the cops? They do, they know where Maddie is under, & under Malat’s mothers house or another property owned and planned by him. Peodo’s have many homes with rooms under houses built in contrete and tubes going up the sides of the house to yurn off the dogs.
The police know Maddie is under Roberts care deep in his normal hidden place. But If you find Maddie you find more, that’s these sadistics bastards fright. Note to parents of Maddie “don’t give up make it hard for them to move her, the police there want you away because this is part income for most” don’t trust, don’t leave and stand by your words “we will not leave without our daughter”. And now you have learnt they hard way, don’t back down as soon as you do they will move her. Stay firm, Stay strong, if Maddie was mine I would be digging Portuguel with a spade and shovel. I would leave, I’d be the biggest thorn in their sides they would hand me my child and as beg forgivness.
PLEASE, TO THOSE THAT HAVE MADDIE, YOU SEE THE GRIEF ,YOU SEE THE HEART BREAK, JUST STOP AND LOOK AT HER, SHE NEEDS HER FAMILY AS YOU TOO CRAVE, SHE IS NOT YOURS JUST GIVE HER BACK AND SEE HER SMILE LIKE SHE DID IN HER HOLIDAY PHOTOS. Feel relief for doing a good thing. Maddie needs her mom, we know Maddie is alive because you care, care enough save her soul too please we beg as a nation that never forgets it’s soliders. Be a Hero, bring her home or get her home either way you’ll always be the person who
saved Madeleine McCann. I DON’T CARE WHO OR WHY THEY BRING HER HOME, JUST GET HER HERE TO SHOW US THERE IS SOME HUMANITY, LOVING PEOPLE THAT CARE MORE FOR OTHERS THAN THEY DO THEM SELVES. MADDIE NEEDS HELP. GIVE TO THOSE THAT YOU EXPECT FROM OTHERS IS INTERP OF THE BIBLE FOR ME, FIND THIS GIRL WITH GOD SPEED, PLEASE

293 Mark Bavis - I find it unusual that a man who’s daughter has disappeared off the face of the earth can conduct himself with what appears to be very little emotion (has anyone seen him shed so much as a tear). Think back to other high profile cases and remember the pain shown in the parents faces. I just don’t see it in the McCanns.
September 7th, 2007 at 2:08 pm
Rosemary - Isn’t it a smidge of a coincidence that someone should steal the McCanns hire car to transport their daughter to wherever! We don’t know all the forensic facts but it must be fairly strong if the mother is now considered a suspect.
September 7th, 2007 at 1:02 pm
It could have been anyone.
September 7th, 2007 at 1:01 pm
I’ve always thought, since there were burglars reported about, that anyone who got into the apartment, could have stolen a car key, used a car to remove Madeleine, and returned the car to the car park without anyone noticing, as none of the group would have been using their cars at the time. People break in to houses to steal car keys all the time in London, fish them out through the letterboxes. But the McCanns didn’t have a hire car at that point, so that rules that out.
September 7th, 2007 at 12:43 pm
Funny you should say that Morgan - just looking at some pictures of a mangled Mercedes in a Paris underpass. Another press darling up in smoke.
If, as I suspect, the parents (a term to be used loosely) are charged, then surely they have ben guilty of something far sicker than a few malicious posts - or is killing your kids ok where you come from?
September 7th, 2007 at 12:35 pm
Teddy
Gallows humour suggests the material will be funny.
You’re ace at the gallows bit, still a way to go on the humour.
Seen any hilarious car crashes lately?
September 7th, 2007 at 12:29 pm
306 I think it is the anguish of Madeleine which brings people here. She is uppermost in most people’s thoughts.
September 7th, 2007 at 12:19 pm
Morgan
How blind are you? Why shouldn’t those bastards be guilty, and why does the subject have to be treated in such a reverential manner.
It’s called ‘gallows humour’ - live with it or fuck off.
September 7th, 2007 at 12:14 pm
If it turns out to be true, and the parents know what happened on that night, will be contributors to the fund get their money back?
September 7th, 2007 at 12:13 pm
306 Morgan Dasley, have you checked out the comments in the Mirror Forum, or beneath the stories in the British Press? Much worse than here, IMO, where they are often constructive.
On a day like today, you have got to expect severe criticism.

I have no idea where these people come from. They are like sick rodents scurrying about with morsels of empty nonsense all the while delighting in the anguish of the McCann’s.
Who would have guessed one site could attract so much drivel that could be simultaneously so amoral and moronic.
Anyone thinking of setting up a Nazi party and looking for new recruits will find plenty of promising candidates here, that’s for sure.
September 7th, 2007 at 11:16 am
304. Not at all, Sarah Payne (daughter also called Sarah) is thin and good-looking as well.
Something about the different outfits every day, jewellery, make-up, made me feel uncomfortable, but I put it down to Kate McCann’s way of coping. I still do.
September 7th, 2007 at 10:37 am
are you saying that kate is too thin and too beautiful to be a good mother?
September 7th, 2007 at 10:27 am
I keep getting a mental image of Sarah Payne’s mother, appearing on the news appealing to her kidnapper, day after day, in the same old jeans and t-shirt, looking exhausted and anguished and comparing her with Madeleine’s mother. Sarah Payne let her children play outside, unsupervised, but it was an area she knew. I can’t begin to understand anyone who could leave their children alone in a holiday apartment and put them in a creche all week. There are a few things which should have perhaps set the alarm bells ringing, but I was convinced their campaign was genuine and driven by grief.
September 7th, 2007 at 10:16 am
yes agreed. Unfortunately there doesnt seem to be any winners in this situation God Bless Her
September 7th, 2007 at 10:08 am
should read coundn’t see why anyone
September 7th, 2007 at 10:08 am
I first got interested in this site because I could see why anyone could be satirical about a missing child (www.anorak.co.uk (satire), is how it appeared on google news). Now I realise there are quite a few similar sites, some specialising in crime, others just news.
September 7th, 2007 at 10:05 am
I’m normally a conspiracy theorist, but wasn’t in this case. A lot of people are really concerned about the fate of Madeleine (where is she?), some of the comments are cruel, but understandable. Humour is very vicious these days. People feel they have a right to know everything about the case right away. I hope the police are keeping what they know to themselves. Difficult to stop the leaks, though.
September 7th, 2007 at 9:45 am
I honestly cant see that. I like to believe the best in people. I find it very hard to believe they are in anyway involved. Like every high profile case there are those who believe in conspiracy theories. I cannot begin to imagine what that must be like.
What annoys me is the moronic attitudes of some people (unfort not just on this board).
September 7th, 2007 at 9:41 am
?????
I thought it was reported he offered his services for nothing.
“Mrs McCann was joined by top Lisbon lawyer Carlos Pinto de Abreu who arrived in Praia da Luz yesterday morning.
The couple is looking into whether the fighting fund to help find Madeleine will be able to pay for his legal advice.”

295, What do you think is going on here, I don’t know what to make of it…an elaborate scheme to get a confession from the real perpetrator? Not very likely, I feel. I can’t believe the publicity campaign, the website, million pounds raised, Pope and celebrities enlisted for support, was all a scam, can you. And what about the time and money spent on the investigation, it is unprecedented.
September 7th, 2007 at 9:18 am
yes i mean leaving their children at home. I agree with you that i find it hard for them to be involved. Some of the attitudes on here tho are despicable
September 7th, 2007 at 9:12 am
293, Mark Bavis….”the McCanns will have to live with their decision for the rest of their lives”.. Which decision are you speaking of, do you mean leaving the children alone? I am having trouble thinking they could have been involved in Madeleine’s disappearance.
