Madeleine McCann: Kate And Gerry’s Blood, Threat And Tears
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
THE SUN front page: “KATE’S AGONY – CONFESS & YOU’RE OUT IN A YEAR.”
“Deal of blood, threat and tears.” Kate McCann is being interviewed by police. This is a “highly-charged confrontation, Portuguese officers citing forensic evidence told the GP she would receive a jail sentence of between two and three years if she signed a confession.”
Kate McCann is “horrified”. Says she: “How dare you?”
A source tells the paper: “The police were trying to get Kate to say she had amnesia or was in shock or had a breakdown. They said if she signed the confession she’d serve a year and that her husband would not be charged and could go home. It was effectively emotional blackmail.”
“SHOCKED” Gerry McCann has been named as a formal suspect.
THE SUN SAYS: “But the allegations made yesterday against Madeleine’s distraught mother Kate are astonishing and, in places, farcical. A suspicious page of the Bible left open? A call to a priest on the day of Maddie’s disappearance? Not exactly a smoking gun.”
Do all crimes involve a smoking gun?
The Sun concludes: “The Sun desperately wants justice for Maddie. But the greatest pity is that she is the one person who seems to have been forgotten in this mess of incompetence.”
And the Press continue to watch the parents.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE: DEATH ON MUM’S BIBLE.”
THE WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER writes of “THE DAY THE JEERING STARTED”.
“Just two days ago Kate McCann, 39, was regarded almost universally as a victim who had suffered unimaginable agony. Families everywhere shared her heartbreak at losing her beautiful daughter. But it was clear yesterday, as the GP arrived to be formally named as a suspect in her daughter’s disappearance, that much of that sympathy has now gone.”
The crowd outside the police station – 400-strong – goes into a “frenzy” when Kate McCann arrives. “There were whistles, then jeers and boos before some in the crowd began to shout insults. ‘Whore… daughter of a whore,’ some yelled in Portuguese.”
The Express translates.
A local man says: “They will find this more and more because in Portugal harming a child is the worst thing…The Portuguese people took them to their hearts and now we feel cheated. It will not be nice in Portugal for them now.”
Kate is “cool and collected”.
DAILY MAIL front page: “THE ACCUSED. Portuguese police’s staggering grilling of Madeleine mother.
• Why was her blood in your car?
• Did you drug her that night?
• Confess and get just two years.”
DAILY STAR front page: “YOU KILLED MADDIE.”
DAILY MIRROR front page: “MADELEINE SENSATION. We have found her blood in the boot of your hire car.. DID YOU KILL HER BY ACCIDENT?” This is “what police asked Kate McCann during 16-hour grilling”.
THE GUARDIAN front page: “Mother, victim…suspect: police target Kate McCann.”
THE TELEGRAPH: “Kate and Gerry McCann named as suspects,” says the headline.
“Mr McCann stared straight ahead as his suspect status was announced and refused to answer questions from awaiting journalists. A crowd which had been attending a concert in the town square earlier listened to the announcement and several people gasped audibly.”
In “Villagers back Madeleine McCann’s parents”, the paper journeys to Rothey, Leicestershire, the McCanns’ home town. Michelle Canilleri, who lives in Rothley, shares with the world: “I can’t believe it. This is such a shock. They have got the wrong people. No way in the world would either Kate or Gerry harm any of their children.”
THE INDEPENDENT front page: “FROM ANGUISHED PARENT, TO GRIEVING MOTHER, TO SUSPECT.”
“Shortly before 11am, Mrs McCann’s spokeswoman, Justine McGuinness, revealed that the 39-year-old GP was being made an arguida – official suspect – in the case. And then she uttered the six short words which will be inconceivable to some who have followed this case and a confirmation of long-held suspicions to others. ‘Kate fears she will be charged,’ Ms McGuinness said.”
THE TIMES front page: A picture of the McCanns meeting the Pope.

757 - the cars were not the same. They are two separate cars. That’s why the DNA is relevant. The second car rented 25 days after Madeleine went missing is NOT the same car as before. That is why the DNA evidence is compelling for the police. They can separate the two. Otherwise, if it was the same car, then there would not be a clear cut case. They would say that she was in that car when she was alive…so of course there is DNA of her and any other passengers in there. These two cars are two separate cars. Not the same.
DNA can be any body fluids, including semen, blood, saliva, skin, hair, nails and tangible material from a human being.

754 - Believe me, we ALL agree on that point, there are countless kiddies who go missing who never receive this kind of publicity and it isn’t just because she is white and British, remember Ben Needham ? well that investigation went nowhere and nothing has ever been seen or heard of him since. And we all agree that if you are Black, Asian, even white, lower or middle class, single-parent, on Benefits etc etc in fact all the possible things that could count against you, then that’s it….finito….no-one is going to move mountains, give you private jets to fly about in, send you to the States, meet the Pope, put millions in a fund and so on and I do just wonder if all those “bandwaggoners” are not now feeling slightly silly in the light of very strong public opinion ?

Definitely, cranks, yes. God!
Tell your friend I think she is a self-deluded moron if not a fraud.
Night, all!
God bless Madeleine, and even your friend. But Jesus.

Miguel Says:
You are rank out of order and racist.
I am white anglo saxon, (pure English) and I am not protecting the McCanns. I firmly believe they had something to do with the abduction, raised funds by deception, and were grossly negligent. I want them to receive evy punishment possible in the hope that others will think twice about neglecting their children.
I would think exactly the same irrespective of what nationality they were or what background they had.
I detest the term ‘ethnic origin’ because it is often used to denote someone inferrior to an anglo saxon person, when as I far as I am concerned everyone is born equal irrespective of skin colour.
Before casting stones, you need to look at your history and your hand in slavery.
As for the murder of John Charles de Menezes, that happened less than 3 mles from where I live. I believe there should be prosecutions both for murder and perverting the course of justice with lies that were told.

751 - “Let’s face it there are are hundreds of brains being applied to this thread alone - more brainpower than the combined Portuguese police force. If we’re all organised and focussed I’m sure we can crack it”
No $#%^ Sherlock!!
I’ve said this all along…
If you watch the news and read the reports, there’s better investigative work being done on this forum. Say what you want about the internal bickering and bitterness here….and it is thriving….but it’s also way ahead of the curve when it comes to cracking this case. Now that the Police have stated that they will be carefully reviewing Gerry’s blog entries, I would suggest that they have some of their “force” read through the archives on this forum and some clues - or at least A CLUE - pun intended - about what happened on the third of May.
There are so many ideas and so my well thought out conspiracy theories on this forum that they can probably stack it up right here. I have been saying this for weeks on end.

The story about the old boy was that he drives an old white van, lives in a dilapidated farmhouse and was somehow connected with Urs von Aesch ( see other Anorak postings ) who shot and killed himself, but firstly - allegedly - tried to kill this old boy who was found withe Ylenia’s belongings near him on some piece of ground in a forest. Urs von Aesch was a known paedophile and it is assumed that he and this old boy were in together on some things BUT - we have heard nothing since and the reason I was so very interested in hearing more is because, as I think you will see from other postings I have made, my friend who is a Medium, picked up on an old farm house with a very old rose growing round the door and a white van so I am eager to see if these match up as she is usually 85% to 90% right with what she comes up with but of course, anything she has given the authorities will be given the go-by because….hey !! she is a Medium and we all know they are cranks don’t we ????
For the benefit of anyone else who wants to “watch this space” as far as what my friend says, she says Maddie will be found when the rains come, she sees her in still water and feels this will overflow if it rains heavily. She thinks it might be a well, a water tank, or a pond or similar. It won’t be long either, we feel.
and 752 - DNA is available from ANY medium, be it blood, hair, skin cells and so on but people always jump to the conclusion it was blood. A bit strange though that it should be found in a hire car 25 days later but perhaps not quite so strange when you also hear that Team McCann had hired the very same car earlier …apparently….

So the McCanns are returning to the UK
Having said they will stay and prove their innocence they leg it.
They must know what evidence the police have against them now they are aguido. Unless that evidence is damning why the need to leave Portugal.
Will be interesting to see how they are going to prove their innocence though. Maybe now they will hire someone to actually start looking for Madeline, but I can’t help but doubt that.

Hey Holme -
Top of the morn’in to ya!
The guy you are referring to that drove the white van, and committed suicide AFTER shooting and injuring another guy in the woods in Switzerland and is the # 1 suspect in the missing Ylenia case (the 5 yr old swiss girl) is a convicted pedophile. A while back someone said that had not been “documented”. But would you say the Times of London is a valid source? Because it’s documented here. Take a look - this should answer some of your questions.

What is outrageous is how british people is just protecting this couple only BECAUSE THEY ARE WHITE BRITISH, if they where asians or jamaicans, this case probably should have another end.
We the portuguese are tired of all this theater case, we have our judicial system all busy in this case, they should be judge out…
And by the way who is gonna be questioned in the cold blood murder of John Charles de Menezes?
September 9th, 2007 at 8:29 am
750 - all tongue in cheek my friend!
Danke Schoen

Latest in news DNA in hire can was not blood could have been Madeleines hair which means it could have easily been on a toy that the twins have been playing with could have been from cuddle cat it was not washed for quite a time after Madeleine disappeared and has constantly been with Kate ever since, this is all just to get the McCanns out of Portugal now what will the fate of Madeleine be we can only together urge to keep the pressure on the Portugese and British Police

MADELEINE FACT FILE: Lots of interesting posts on this thread contain information which is interesting - but is often hard to find the next day or next week.
I think we could to with a separate webpage where all the known facts about this case were available for reference along with their source.
Let’s face it there are are hundreds of brains being applied to this thread alone - more brainpower than the combined Portuguese police force. If we’re all organised and focussed I’m sure we can crack it
For example this morning Ann in post 741 reminded us all about
“the old boy who was found shot and was supposed to be under Police guard in Hospital, awaiting questioning about Madeleine and the other little girl,Ylenia ? He is the one who lived in a dilapidated farmhouse and drove a white van”
I hadn’t heard of this before - but there was a white van mentioned by the investigation team funded by the Dutch public. Same van?
September 9th, 2007 at 8:17 am
brick house, I’ll let your post stand as is, I have no real problem with any of it. But Christoph really is German for Christopher.
I mean, it’s not like I wouldn’t know that. If you don’t believe me, ask a German person.
It’s a common name in Germany.
I just woke up and am going to get some work done… since I’m a classic type A personality!
LOL
Have a good time.
September 9th, 2007 at 8:13 am
740 - just letting it all hang out…yes, I am laughing.
Nice to know “he” thinks he’s got it all down. The truth is he’s got a lot of misinformation on you there wouldn’t you say?. Especially the bleeding heart liberal part. It’s not that we care what any one thinks about GWB. It’s that it’s not worth the oxygen to debate it.
Funny about that Christoph guy though. I’m not sure I do. He certainly gives a whole new meaning to Type A personality. Someone earlier said to him “Je T’aime”. But what I think they meant to say was “Je Reviens”. He’s certainly not a forgettable kind of guy. What with 600 posts himself in one day, who would not recall the guy with the fake french name. Christophe is most certainly spelled with an e at the end. I think he says his spelling was the Teutonic spelling…lol. Whatever!! It’s a crazy mixed up world. It’s just nice to know we can keep our identities concealed on the internet. Just keep them guessing and play your cards close to the vest. Works for me!
September 9th, 2007 at 8:13 am
Karen, thanks for your support. Even though we disagree on certain political ideas (and here’s a truism thought for you you may never have heard… it doesn’t mean it it will happen to you, but doesn’t mean it won’t either!):
Obviously, I agree with the FIRST half of that!
But humour aside and seriously… I used to have a lot more liberal ideas than I do, but reality intervened.
And whatever our differences are, I’m sure we both hate what happened to this girl. Alcoholic or otherwise mentally unstable weirdo gecko100 isn’t gonna change that.
I’m also sure we both want justice. Now, granted, my idea of justice in a case where a little child is hurt involves a rope and only because I’m compassionate… frankly, it could be a whole lot worse and I’d be okay with that (in the case where it’s intentional… and only in that case).
But a government should not do such things (”cruel and unusual punishment”) as the Americans put it so even her I’m joking. Kind of. A bit. Still hate child-harmers.
But I do share your feelings about wanting justice even if that means a jail sentence, which is exactly what will happen in a best case scenario.
You seem very nice. Word of wisdom? gecko’s acting like a total freak. And this is a topic that can attract concerned people who care about what happened… and it can attract all sorts of other people too if you get my drift.
Don’t share too much info.

‘We are staying in Portugal until we clear our name’
YEAH RIGHT !!!!!!
Hands up who did not see them getting on the next plane home …………
September 9th, 2007 at 7:58 am
745 - LOL - I don’t see christoph posting here. You mean geckgo100 the ventrilouqist, aka 16 aliases???
September 9th, 2007 at 7:56 am
CHRISTOPH: I take my hat off to you. We were exchanging some thoughts early on Saturday morning but - cricket - there you were at 3 o’clock this morning still contributing to this site! …Surely some sort of award is called for !
Apart from the interest of exchanging ideas, contributing to this thread is doing wonders for my faltering arithmetic
September 9th, 2007 at 7:46 am
(740) You know better than lettin’ it all hang out… shake it down, shake it down now!
You won’t need to respond to (742) the insomniac/ventriliquist. Yeah so he’s got a mind like a sponge - and a life about as exciting as one. Most 18 yr old boys who play video games all day will have those personality traits.
Yes, he’s grasping at straws with alot of misinformation. Quite sure that he’s got you all figured out Karen. We both know he’s way off base on most if not all of his “assessments”. Overthinking a wee bit too much on some “facts”. Lifting information from previous posts to “creep” you out perhaps. But that’s the great thing about the internet forums. You can come and go as you please. Keep your anonymity and hold onto your real idenitity. Even with smug and overzealous posters on the prowl.
Btw, a bleeding heart liberal doesn’t have anything to do with what someone else says or thinks about George W. Bush. Some battles just aren’t worth the oxygen required for the debate.
The media aspects should interest you. It’s the first time in a long time anything has drawn so much interest outside of our own insulated borders. I have not seen it given much of any air time on TV until recently though. What stations do you watch?? Nevermind, it doesn’t matter.

Re ANN 741 - I know it is a bit corny but the Six Stages by Kubler-Ross are relevant here:
Denial : The initial stage: “It can’t be happening.”
Anger : “Why ME? It’s not fair?!” (either referring to God, oneself, or anybody perceived, rightly or wrongly, as “responsible”)
Bargaining : “Just let me live to see my son graduate.”
Depression : “I’m so sad, why bother with anything?”
Acceptance : “It’s going to be OK.”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kübler-Ross_model
Have you seen her experiece any of these steps, except maybe “Its going to be OK.”? What about depression, or denial, or bargaining, or anger? Anger at her man for letting her keep the back door unlocked? Anger at Mark Warner Resorts for selling them on safe the resort was? Anger at Murat, even eroneously?
The easiest emotional affect is the frown - it takes the least amount of work to maintain and covers most situations. When in doubt, pout! As someone who has experienced loss, or fear of a loss, I can say her behaviour is like a handbag that doesnt match the shoes. Jarring.
September 9th, 2007 at 5:59 am
Nice to meet you Karen. And how old are you sweetie?
September 9th, 2007 at 5:56 am
I want to know whay Kate McCann’s facial expression hasn’t changed in all the time this has been going on. Either she is holding herself in until the day Maddie’s body is found, and will then lose her marbles and have a break-down, or she is just a cold and unemotional type, and nothing will affect her at all.
My conviction is that Madeleine is dead, will be found very soon and then we will all be happy but meanwhile, does anyone know any more about the old boy who was found shot and was supposed to be under Police guard in Hospital, awaiting questioning about Madeleine and the other little girl,Ylenia ? He is the one who lived in a dilapidated farmhouse and drove a white van
September 9th, 2007 at 5:14 am
Gecko100 is such an obnoxious troll I’m amazed you’re all being so nice about him. He wouldn’t last 2 posts on most forums.
I like Christoph. I’m a classic bleeding heart liberal - but that means I don’t mind someone liking George W. Bush, even if I can’t stand him.
And I’m facinated by this case, because I’ve never seen parents create such a slick media campaign before and because it’s a mystery - we wouldn’t be human if we weren’t speculating about something that’s been on T.V and in every newspaper every day for 4 months.
September 9th, 2007 at 4:18 am
Guess who is laughing?
September 9th, 2007 at 4:02 am
Amazing, when you demand better behaviour from people they all run away…
September 9th, 2007 at 4:00 am
Jeesh you guys have no staying power…
I’ve scared all my friends away and not even a disturbing sexual comment..
September 9th, 2007 at 3:54 am
Whatever happened to rational debate, did it get too weird?
What is that all about?
If this is satire, I’m the pope, (AND GOD, wow). I thought we were sending up the tabloid press not ‘being it’ with endless gossip about shesaidhesaid.
I could get that over the back fence.
Some psychological theories could be interesting instead of mindless gossip.
Re-read all of these posts and take a long hard look at the themes….and yourselves.
