Tiddly Wink,

I can't sleep yet for worry. Now my Mom is feeling very sick and her kidneys are not functioning. She has hospice but even that doesn't appear much help at this point. She has held up remarkably and much longer than anyone expected but I am not so sure this time.

Without knowing from one day to the next what to expect, I could disappear from the site for a while but I will check back. Hopefully the situation isn't as bad as I suspect.

If I can't find you I will call information and ask for Tiddly Winks in Alaska?

Andrew, you act on things!

I am hesitant to sign anything because I am an American and the case is British.

Tiddly Winks,

Possibly tomorrow I will find book. Today has been a busy kind of limbo but tomorrow is a new day. Oh, I spoke to someone today who read the book in the past but due to time had difficulty trying to explain. The most I could determine was something about relationships. OHhhhhhh

As for Faulkner, some of my mother's family history appeared to go there, marriage, but not directly that I could tell at quick glance. I didn't spend much time on that line at the time and haven't had a chance recently. I have spent more time observing art in the area than what is written. I do like to read but usually only what is truth or supposed truth. Odd, but my Dad is the same.

I meant to ask you what you meant about being a Cracker? No, not a clue!

What do you do in Alaska or is that a wise question to ask? The big sky isn't Montana? Coast or ? I love salmon and buy a lot of wild at Whole Foods in New Orleans.

Too bad people aren't busy on the site tonight. I must wait until all of the people around here go to bed to get any work accomplished. Tomorrow, an early AM hospital wait but later in the day or evening I will check back.

Hopefully some of the regular posters will appear. I haven't seen Rosemary, Richard, etc. Spudgun appears hanging in longer than Rosemary and she was a trooper.

Later,

I am not buying one word from Mcanns

When in England they are asked questions- they do not answer because " Portugal low prohibit them from any any disclosure"
When interviewed in Portugal by police- they again choose to not answer - because do not want to help police to fined the child killer.

And who are the idiots that help them with money for covering the murder.

314 - David, as my Pa says, you're a big scalliwagger ;-)

Shame on you....lol!!!

I'm off for my morning run. I'm getting a late start - I usually like to get going before dawn. Now the birdies are already up and fed.

When did the Portuguese Police decide they'd never find a body? That's giving up before even getting started. Where is Scooby-Dooby - Doo when you need him? I say, leave the investigation to the dogs. They'll do a better job at least!

Ohhh, I am such a little scoundrel, I know it. But please, don't call me that horrilbe name "Troll". I have nightmares of those little men living under the bridge when I was a wee lad....the Billy Goat Gruff story, you know? I think the Troll living under the bridge is the equivalent to today's pedophile for children. I have no doubt that those dirty old men living under the bridge and calling themselves Trolls in Scandinavian Folklore were indeed child snatchers and predators. Evil little people. Ugly too. Poor Billy Goat Gruff. Crossing a bridge in life shouldn't have been that much trouble. Sort of gives a whole new meaning to that concept. You know?

Shiver me timbers!! I'm getting goose bumps just reminiscing about them... :-(

313 - Oh yes, Patricia. I look forward to hearing your thoughts. Mind you, it's not a "quick read", because there is a lot to absorb and think about. I'm the kind of reader who likes to savor classics, and sometimes, I find myself re-reading a page over and over before I'm willing to turn the page. I find my interpretations can change this way. Each complete thought is like a prize. When I hear people say "Oh, yeah, I read that book in a day", I feel they will retain very little of the prose.

Please do read it though, at your leisure. It's quite an American Classic. If you've enjoyed for instance, "To Kill a Mockingbird", then I'm quite convinced you will love Carson McCulloughs books. She's got a few others but "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter" was her best work.

So the Portuguese police say they will never find the body. I'm really not supprised, it seems they couldn't find their own arses if you gave them a flashlight (torch) and a map!
Tiddly Winks is right too, OJ news is all we seem to be getting here in Wisconsin this morning. Not that our local paper even mentioned the Madeleine case much anyway. In the days before digital cable and the internet I remained almost totally unaware of all things British, now at least I get to catch up on what's happening.
I haven't decided if that's a good thing or not :)

Response to Winky,

I will read the book. "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter" Maybe I can find it today.

Oh yes, life now in Mississippi.

Winky, I like the name. No, I haven't been to Alaska but have heard many fishing stories.

Give me a few days to read the book and I will let you know. Thanks for the idea of something to do while sitting in hospital waiting areas today and tomorrow.

Are you always Winky on this site? Having someone chat is like old times talking at school while everyone else is working. People are serious on this site! I will find you.

309 - 310. I'm pleased to learn I was not far off track there.

I knew you were a Dixie chick. Don't ask me why - I just knew it!!!

I don't know if you've ever read any William Faulkner, but your writing style, no where as prolific or descriptive of course, is similar to his Southern style and believe it or not, it was this that led me to believe you're a genuine "cracker".

One of my favorite 20th century writers is Carson McCullers - "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter". I wish they'd make a movie out of that book. It was simply divine reading! The South have produced some of the greatest writers ever.

Me, I'm a Northern Lights native. Do you know where that is? I presume you've heard of Alaska and the Pacific NorthWest. Big Sky Country.

Just finished watching the Emmy's - other than Jon Stewart interjecting some comic relief here and there, it was a terribly boring.

O.J. the sociopath taking center stage on the news today. So no news on the Maddy fornt over here tonight. Throw him in prison and destroy the key. His book is called "If I did it". I think he was struggling with two other titles:

1) So What if I did it

2) I did it.

Poor Goldman family. They are the biggest victims in all of this.

Almost forgot to mention, my nickname is Winky - remember the little character Winky Dink? Maybe you don't. But some family members also call me Tiddly Winks to this day!. Either way, the name has followed me into adulthood. Sticking around all these years. Kind of strange to get calls at the office "Is Winky available please". Things could be worse...

I came back on to ask Rosemary about a link about the guy with the boat. The postings on the forum are long now and I can't remember which one.

Pat - Where are you from? I can't figure out your “accent” for the life of me.
I tend to think it’s the Southern part of the US - I know you're in the Central Time Zone - so my guess would be that you’re somewhere between Alabama and Texas. My guess would be Texas. But not necessarily native.

Just give me the state or tell me if I’m warm at least….I’m intrigued by the tone of your writing. It’s very “Faulknerish”. Very Southern. Non-linear narrative; stream of consciousness….

But, maybe it’s Florida? So many transplants living down there. Any one could be living in Florida today…..ho hum.

Just logged out and it's given me the option of putting my name here again.

Yeah, just read it. It's almost as crazy as the article a couple of days ago defending the "fund two" concept.

"marvellous" says Professor whatever his name was from Great Ormond St. Hospital "I will make a donation, its super!" or whatever it was he actually said.

Yeah. Whatever
