Madeleine McCann: Call Off The Dogs, Kate McCann’s Tears And Fatima
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
THE TIMES page 9: “McCanns send to US for help against evidence of sniffer dogs.”
Gerry and Kate McCann have consulted lawyers working on behalf of Eugene Zapata in Madison, Wisconsin.
In October 1976, Zapata’s wife, Jeanette, went missing. Her body has never been found. Last year sniffer dogs were brought in and Zapata was charged with her murder. The case went before Judge Patrick Fielder who said the evidence – dogs had picked up the scent of a corpse in Zapata’s basement – was inadmissible. He said the dogs were unreliable.
The dogs have yet to make a comment.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “MADDY JUDGE: LET ME TELL ALL.”
Pedro Daniel dos Anjos Frias wants to “speak freely” about the case.
Pages 6 and 7: “Mum’s tears at 11am Mass.” Once again the Mirror is all eyes for Kate McCann’s eyes. She is crying.
In church, Father Keith Tomlinson narrates the parable of the Prodigal Son. An eight-year-old child called Molly Earp reads “Jesus please continue to love and protect us, until she is found.”
And then Jesus can have a rest and the police can resume normal duties…
Pages 8 and 9: “On the beach Gerry gave Maddy loads of hugs and kisses, he was a perfect dad..The next time I saw him was about midnight..I saw a man alone, desperate. He was crying and screaming her name over and over and over again.” Words from a “WAITER AT MADDIE’S LAST MEAL” before she vanished.
THE SUN front page: “Maddie ‘gag’ lift.” Friends of Kate and Gerry McCann are hopeful of being allowed to speak out and defend themselves. A judge has asked for a lifting of Portugal’s secrecy laws.
Pages 6 and 7: “AGONY TO COME.” The Sun produces a picture of Kate and Gerry McCann’s wedding day. They are holding Kate’s goddaughter Ellie. There is also a new picture of Madeleine McCann “looking angelic”. Have you seen her? Or are you watching the parents?
THE EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE. POLICE TO SEARCH SHRINE FOR BODY.” The McCanns went to Fatima. The McCanns car clocked up 1,709 miles in the fives weeks after their daughter went missing.
THE WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER Pages 2 and 3: “Hand in hand, McCanns go to family church.” The “devoutly Catholic couple” are leaving for church from their “£600,000 home”. Kate McCann is carrying Cuddle Cat.
Pages 4 and 5: “1,000 letters each day in support of the McCanns. Between 500 and 1,000 letters a day arrive at the McCanns’ home. “There are some crank letters,” says a spokesman for the family, “but that’s inevitable.”
None of these letters are believed to point to the whereabouts of Madeleine McCann.
Alex Cayles, a former neighbour of the McCanns, says “I never heard Kate or Gerry raise their voices to their children or anyone else.” Can the same be said of any parents of three very young children?
DAILY MAIL front page: a picture of Kate McCann smiling.
“MADELEINE:
• Doubt cast on sniffer dogs
• Police frontman quits investigation
• Branson funds the McCanns’ defence
• Witness’s vital new evidence”
Pages 10 and 11:2 “Maddie: Is the case crumbling?”
Chief inspector Olegario Sousa has resigned “in disgust” at the way in which fellow Portuguese officers have been briefing the media behind his back.
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE MUM ON MURDER RAP. Now cops claim to have found ‘a motive’.”
The Star says police have read Kate McCann’s diary and “claim it reveals she had a motive to kill”.
Pages 4 and 5: “DID KATE HAVE A MOTIVE?”
Well, we haven’t read the diary, but…
“The idea that Portuguese detectives are looking at my daughter’s most personal thoughts and taking them out of context is terrible,” says Kate McCann’s father Brian Healy.
Pages 6 and 7: “HUNT AT HOLY SHRINE.” Is Madeleine McCann’s body buried at Fatima, one of the Catholic Church’s holiest sites? The Star says the couple went there three weeks after their daughter went missing.
We wonder. Is she? Or is she buried in Germany, America, London or Morocco, places also visited by the McCanns?
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “New allegations against McCanns - As the McCanns begin a new campaign to clear their names, further allegations emerged over the weekend.”
Oh?
“The hire car: The Renault Scenic hired by the McCanns 25 days after Madeleine went missing. New claims centre on its high mileage. Between May 27 and July 3, it was driven 1,700 miles, with police looking into the possibility that it may have been used to dispose of a body…There were also reports that detectives were waiting for permission from a judge to seize and dismantle the car to search for ‘traces of skin’.”
THE GUARDIAN: No Maddy news today.

95 - I have taken the drive along Class Divide Lane before and I will take it again.
It would be interesting to know if those who think that the McCanns guilty are, generally, from the lower orders, and those who are think them likely to be innocent, or at least entitled to the presumption of innocence, are from the upper elechons.
My own, informal, poll indicates that the higher one’s rank, the greater the inclination to see it the McCann’s way.
My son’s football (assocation) team manager is the only one to date that I have spoken to wot thought the McCanns were guilty of anything

104 ~ Moderation …. I say clarence mitchell because…. the main late news last night on tv [itv i think] said that Clarence Mitchell was to quit his job and work full time for the mad mccanns….when i heard that my smoothie nearly came back thru my nose !!. We know full well by now that the journos sometimes need a reality check…but it would be quite bizzarre for a well paid civil servant to give up a secure job [with all it's pension rights] to work for the mccanns [did i realy say mad mccanns earlier]….. but this case is full of twist and turns so who knows…

it is a known fact the money can buy injustice.
Since jacqui smith has said that she is quite happy with the manner in which the investigation has taken place, is Ricahrd Branson suggesting that democracy should be abolished?
democracy is dependant on the legal system. Once they are convicted and the facts are made available to all and sundry, then if persons wish to support them, financially or morally, then that is their own choice.
This whole fuckin saga stinks of elitism.

Karen, frankly I don’t know, but the theory that she walked off and went to the sea or fell in a hole I don’t buy. If you look at the maps, it looks like the sea is still a walk away from the appartment and she’d have to cross PDL. Someone would have seen her. The same with the hole, someone would have seen the body.

I’m sorry I don’t really see how the Zapata case can compare to the mcCann case. In the Zapata case there is a time gap of nearly 30 YEARS between the initial investigation of 1976 and the reopened investigation of 2004. Whereas the period of time in the mcCann case is only max. four months. Furthermore, KM apparently bought the suggestion she wore a scent of corpse and replied accordingly.
It is surprising to say that cadaver dogs suddenly are inreliable. They can actually detect bodies in the deeps of lakes (seas?) sniffing in a boat..

98 I am not trying to make you look foolish. Did i not say way back, that if you offer stuff of value I’m taking it on board? I peersonally think that it was bizarre to say she had been in touch with 6 bodies just before she went on holiday, saying that is what the dog smelt and today, she is saying the dog never smelled anything. Why don’t you just have the last word and leave me in peace

Don’t know if you read the post about your numbers - it’s many posts away now!
Re:Cuddles - of course she took it with her. The SAS might storm her house and take it for forensic testing if she left it behind!

Ohmigod. Might Gerry McCann have said the F word? Oh well… must be guilty then! lets go and dig up Fatima, one of the most visited and heavily guarded shrines in the world!
Impressed 78. No not Clarence Mitchell, isn’t he something to do with the new PR? can’t remember. Know i’ve heard the name but too busy to look it up right now!

Who needs logic.
Abduction/Murders do not usually follow any logic, please look up snowtown murders, Mary bell case, Yorkshire ripper,
What we need is a body ,alive preferrably.

Today I mostly think that :
The McCanns didn’t kill Madeleine.
Madeleine wasn’t abducted.
The P.R. makes the McCanns look fake.
Madeleine might have wandered out of the apartment on her own and then been snatched, or fell in the sea or fell in the roadworks.

if people are suspecting munchausens, then maybe someone should be looking what kate’s other six bodies died from.
the six she admits to anyway.

What is your problem Helsangel, call up your GPs office and ask the question yourself. I also mentioned that many terminally ill patients die at their homes. I worked as a receptionist for my cousin’s practise last summer. I was covering for the receptionists who were taking their summer holidays. My cousin would pick me up every morning on her way to her practise. One morning in particular she told me she had to pick me up much earlier as she had to visit a family at there home whose daughter had just died of lukemia at their family home. I of course and thankfully had to wait in the car while my cousin visited with the family and signed the death certificate. I later asked my cousin if she had to do this quite often and it must really be upsetting and she said that it was always upsetting but part of the job. So please do not try and make me look foolish because it is you who is sadly very uninformed.

75. She aslo said that she took Cuddles the cat into work,
That’s very common amongst the affluent and well heeled isn’t it? To steal your children’s plush toys and bring them to work? Big deal.

CORRECTION:
The BBC site originally said “Paid leave”:-
http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLD,GGLD:2005-12,GGLD:en&q=gerry+mccan+paid+leave
and then they later changed it to “Unpaid leave”

Get in touch with your MP’S folks! why is the taxpayer paying Gerry Mccan for all these months while he swans around film festivals, criminal defence lawyers offices and tv chat shows.
September 17th, 2007 at 10:19 am
remember the bloke who did a phone recording of gerry on holiday saying “f**** off”
does anyone know who that was?
September 17th, 2007 at 10:18 am
71 Wow Noonethere, if I don’t have to believe what I read in the papers, I(certainly don’t have to believe you, do I? We are all on here speculating, and I still have never heard of the locum having to turn up to sign the death certificate. I worked five years in a medical centre myself, which is a bit different than my cousin telling me about it.
September 17th, 2007 at 10:18 am
Billy,
this is why I said that comments regarding this can only be speculative. GPs whether full- time or part-time ( I read that Kate worked 3 days a week) are not only dealing with patients in their practice, but also patients when they are on call at hospitals and many times they are also called in to cover for a doctor who is on leave. Kate Mccann stated that she had to deal with a number of deaths leading up to her holidays, so none of us can really break this down according to number of days, number of bodies. Until you get the full facts its impossible. Also the police checked this with her practice and it was found to be correct. I actually don’t believe that Kate Mccann specified the number of deaths, I think this is yet again press speculation, exaggerations etc. We all have to agree that this case is so full speculation precisely because of the secrecy law. This is why I won’t point fingers at this stage.
September 17th, 2007 at 10:18 am
77 I believe GMcC is on “unpaid leave”.
September 17th, 2007 at 10:18 am
If anyone sees Richard tell him the McCanns lawyer is checking America for more help. This time I think about a sniffer dog case that didn’t hold up in court. Hopefully that means okay for Americans to continue visiting the forum.
September 17th, 2007 at 10:18 am
about the PJ and the press being all over the Mccanns so they couldn’t have put a body in the car….
1. Nobody suggested it was the Mccanns that transported a body in the car.
2. Someone said earlier that the car-rental company confirmed that 2 people were authorized to drive the car - Gerry and Kate’s brother.
3. When the Mccanns visited Fatima or the Vatican (followed by the press) someone could have used the car.
So, to dismiss the suggestion that a body could have been transported in the car because the press were all over the Mccanns is plain nonsense.
