Madeleine McCann: Call Off The Dogs, Kate McCann’s Tears And Fatima
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
THE TIMES page 9: “McCanns send to US for help against evidence of sniffer dogs.”
Gerry and Kate McCann have consulted lawyers working on behalf of Eugene Zapata in Madison, Wisconsin.
In October 1976, Zapata’s wife, Jeanette, went missing. Her body has never been found. Last year sniffer dogs were brought in and Zapata was charged with her murder. The case went before Judge Patrick Fielder who said the evidence – dogs had picked up the scent of a corpse in Zapata’s basement – was inadmissible. He said the dogs were unreliable.
The dogs have yet to make a comment.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “MADDY JUDGE: LET ME TELL ALL.”
Pedro Daniel dos Anjos Frias wants to “speak freely” about the case.
Pages 6 and 7: “Mum’s tears at 11am Mass.” Once again the Mirror is all eyes for Kate McCann’s eyes. She is crying.
In church, Father Keith Tomlinson narrates the parable of the Prodigal Son. An eight-year-old child called Molly Earp reads “Jesus please continue to love and protect us, until she is found.”
And then Jesus can have a rest and the police can resume normal duties…
Pages 8 and 9: “On the beach Gerry gave Maddy loads of hugs and kisses, he was a perfect dad..The next time I saw him was about midnight..I saw a man alone, desperate. He was crying and screaming her name over and over and over again.” Words from a “WAITER AT MADDIE’S LAST MEAL” before she vanished.
THE SUN front page: “Maddie ‘gag’ lift.” Friends of Kate and Gerry McCann are hopeful of being allowed to speak out and defend themselves. A judge has asked for a lifting of Portugal’s secrecy laws.
Pages 6 and 7: “AGONY TO COME.” The Sun produces a picture of Kate and Gerry McCann’s wedding day. They are holding Kate’s goddaughter Ellie. There is also a new picture of Madeleine McCann “looking angelic”. Have you seen her? Or are you watching the parents?
THE EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE. POLICE TO SEARCH SHRINE FOR BODY.” The McCanns went to Fatima. The McCanns car clocked up 1,709 miles in the fives weeks after their daughter went missing.
THE WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER Pages 2 and 3: “Hand in hand, McCanns go to family church.” The “devoutly Catholic couple” are leaving for church from their “£600,000 home”. Kate McCann is carrying Cuddle Cat.
Pages 4 and 5: “1,000 letters each day in support of the McCanns. Between 500 and 1,000 letters a day arrive at the McCanns’ home. “There are some crank letters,” says a spokesman for the family, “but that’s inevitable.”
None of these letters are believed to point to the whereabouts of Madeleine McCann.
Alex Cayles, a former neighbour of the McCanns, says “I never heard Kate or Gerry raise their voices to their children or anyone else.” Can the same be said of any parents of three very young children?
DAILY MAIL front page: a picture of Kate McCann smiling.
“MADELEINE:
• Doubt cast on sniffer dogs
• Police frontman quits investigation
• Branson funds the McCanns’ defence
• Witness’s vital new evidence”
Pages 10 and 11:2 “Maddie: Is the case crumbling?”
Chief inspector Olegario Sousa has resigned “in disgust” at the way in which fellow Portuguese officers have been briefing the media behind his back.
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE MUM ON MURDER RAP. Now cops claim to have found ‘a motive’.”
The Star says police have read Kate McCann’s diary and “claim it reveals she had a motive to kill”.
Pages 4 and 5: “DID KATE HAVE A MOTIVE?”
Well, we haven’t read the diary, but…
“The idea that Portuguese detectives are looking at my daughter’s most personal thoughts and taking them out of context is terrible,” says Kate McCann’s father Brian Healy.
Pages 6 and 7: “HUNT AT HOLY SHRINE.” Is Madeleine McCann’s body buried at Fatima, one of the Catholic Church’s holiest sites? The Star says the couple went there three weeks after their daughter went missing.
We wonder. Is she? Or is she buried in Germany, America, London or Morocco, places also visited by the McCanns?
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “New allegations against McCanns - As the McCanns begin a new campaign to clear their names, further allegations emerged over the weekend.”
Oh?
“The hire car: The Renault Scenic hired by the McCanns 25 days after Madeleine went missing. New claims centre on its high mileage. Between May 27 and July 3, it was driven 1,700 miles, with police looking into the possibility that it may have been used to dispose of a body…There were also reports that detectives were waiting for permission from a judge to seize and dismantle the car to search for ‘traces of skin’.”
THE GUARDIAN: No Maddy news today.

324 No way! Surely not!
Skeletor and Midget signed up to Jeremy Kyle without telling me! Appalling.
Meanwhile, latest news at Chez Mccann, Aunty Phil has called up Pizza Hut to deliver some pizza’s and garlic bread
September 17th, 2007 at 12:55 pm
Possibly Rosemary had a link but I could be mistaken.
September 17th, 2007 at 12:54 pm
With all the pseudonms, are we gonna devise one for Branston?
Also my gut instinct tells me it is time for lunch.
September 17th, 2007 at 12:53 pm

September 17th, 2007 at 12:53 pm
Does anyone have a link or info about the man with a boat who the police supposedly already interviewed? I think it yesterday that was mentioned?
September 17th, 2007 at 12:53 pm
SIR Richard is an INTELLIGENT man - so what if he fancies young girls (not sure how young, Moriarty wasn’t specific). He knows his own mind.
Skeletor and Midget are going to release a statement in a few moments about the “sniffer dogs”.

302.
Interesting about Vaz & Chemello perhaps being in the pockets of high ranking Spanish officials. I thought they were being prosecuted? That is very disheartening to hear that they aren’t being punished at all for making false claims to the McCanns in hopes of trying to extort money from them? I read that Chemello apologized and said something like he was “just bored” so he made up a story that he knew were Madeleine was? It’s weird. I for one think that couple may have clues. IT could be & I truly hope that the cops are not arresting them just playing stupid in hopes that Vaz & Chemello will soon lead them to more important things & the police can charge them with a more serious crime?
Sorry about joking around I just cannot think seriously about this case as much as some of you all do. Plus I mean this is a satire site. Apoliges for the c word. I actually like that word and love using it in limericks.
We were making naughty limericks all weekend so that word is frech in my mind. But apologies. I enjoy reading your posts even if they are jibes at me.
Oh and I am not 100% convinced that the McCanns are guilty of 1st degree murder. I am not certain. My gut instinct, along with what evidence I think is reliable (not much) makes me feel that they do know more than they are letting on. I do think they have a hand in it and not just soley for leaving their children without a sitter and the door unlocked. I just geta creepy feeling about them and have since late June when I read Madeleine was still missing. Her wesbite is so strange. The words they use are bizarre. Their inability to say anything with sincerity or to make an honest admittal of poor parenting or guilt over the decision to leave the children like they did I find reprehensible.
But I actually would not mind at all to be wrong and find that they are not involved in Madeleine’s disappearance. I would also really love for Madeleine to be find alive and okay. I never mind being wrong. I just like mysteries and read too many crime novels.

Thank you jaje-66 (311). Let’s not question the cadaver dogs’ professionality all of a sudden.

307 - “top 3% Globally” - I fear I may only be in the top x% in the UK, European wide, I am only in the top 5x%, and globally, well I would have to multiple it up that much more
September 17th, 2007 at 12:51 pm
people get accused and charged with crimes they have not committed all the time but most do not have the benefit of financial backers like Branston.
Great job Gerry, you have got all angles covered.

301 Branson didn’t give a mill he gave £100,000. Isn’t Branson allowed to make a decision himself on how he feels about them? you’ve mostlydecided the McCanns are guilty… why can’t he decide they are innocent?
September 17th, 2007 at 12:48 pm
Now Richard Branson has been on the telly a bit I think I will go and buy some of his products.
Great marketing Sir Richard

Hey, I am on it Impressed.
The Teflon 2, are in fact, innocent of neglect, as they thought that the babies were safe because they doped them up to the eyeballs, so knew they couldnt wander off out of the apartment, and they knew they wouldn’t accidentally wake up either.
How am I doing Impressed????
September 17th, 2007 at 12:46 pm
107 maria . I have actually seen one of these cadaver dogs in action at sea near a harbour . It pinpointed the location of a body trapped in a vehicle that had plunged into the water. There is no doubt as to the ability of these dogs ,even at sea they can scent dead bodys .
September 17th, 2007 at 12:44 pm
307 ~ SSS …yes you are…..hip hip hooray..now go out in the big bad world …tell as many people as you can…. the mccanns [k&g of course] are the bestest parents in the whole wide world…. they would never never ever go out on the piss and leave their wee beautiful children all alone in an unlocked apartment in a foreign country…[only lower class people do that sort of thing]….. and when you’ve spent all the money…pop back to anorak…and we’ll get you cured soon as possible….

Well I will feel that you are fool for you if you can’t be bothered to do it yourself.

306. Exactly. If I was a corrupt police force desperate to get rid of a case I would frame the foreigner with one-eye who lives with his Mum and who is being trashed in the British press.

296 You need to go back and READ what I posted as you obviously didn’t.
I was giving some more cliches as choices for people to pick according to what they felt - perhaps you are the stupid one for not READING properly.
Also, being foolish is nothing to do with intellect.
The most intelligent person I know has an IQ that puts him in the top 3% globally, but has absolutely no commonsense whatsoever. Great, he passed a GCSE Maths aged 9 but is exceedingly foolish and no commonsense whatsoever.
So please READ comments properly before you decide you know exactly what people mean.
293 Does this mean I am now the official PR spokesperson?? How exciting!
September 17th, 2007 at 12:39 pm
298…and they had an “easier” suspect to frame in Murat.
September 17th, 2007 at 12:39 pm
296. I’ve always thought Richard Branson was a prat, not stupid.
And he’s not being stupid in backing the McCanns. If they’re guilty no one will hold it against him - they fooled him. If they’re innocent, he’s a hero. Either way he got on T.V. - which is good for Virgin.

Jon 291,
Nice post with lots of juicy bits but what is the point. I don’t mean to sound flippant but hasn’t this all been covered before?
I have 2 questions:
If it was so wrong for the Portuguese press to print excerpts from Kate’s diary then why did the British follow suit?
If there are feral dogs (and I know I am getting into Dingo Mother territory) in the area isn’t it possible that since those saintly McCann parents left their babies in an unlocked apartment unsupervised that Madeleine could have very easily have woken up and gotten scared, opened the door and walked out looking for her parents and then was viciously attacked by a wild dog?

Hi I’m back and out of my boring morning meeting.
Hey Paulette I acutally agree with you regarding your 266 post even though I realise you think the McCanns are guilty and you think I am a *nt.
I thought that the Danillo Chemello and Aurora Vaz couple were let go of too early. I kept wondering why the Spanish police did not charge them in the end. I know the papers said that they had previously tried to bribe a judge in France. If this is a couple who make a career out of bribing high officials then it makes you wonder why the Spanish police let them go without charge. It was also reported by Paulo Reis that they were in the Algarve during the time that Madeleine went missing. I still think there could be some serious connection with these two people. I also remember reading once that people who front paedophile rings usually want weathly people or those in high official jobs involved because it then becomes harder for the police to shut them down. When Aurora Vaz was trying to get custody of her child from her former husband, she claimed he was looking at child porn. If you were in a custody battle with your husband why would that be the first thing you would claim (and remember Aurora Vaz was done for child abuse herself a few years later). I found the whole thing weird as she was already hooked up with Chemello by then. Also the police claim that she was being investigated for illegal adoption.
I really do not understand why that trail went cold.

Yes its entirely up to Branson who he gives his money to but why would you give a million to a legal fund to suspects in a crime when you dont have the facts. Good god for all we know this could be murder. Bizarre indeed methinks.
And if there are many donating to the legal fund anonymously then anonymous is wise. Nobody with a brain cell in their head would give money to such a fund without facts that substantiate innocence. Richard Branson and others in the world are obviously going stark raving bonkers.
I am not suspected of anything. Therefore am I not worthy of a donation or two. I could do with the cash

he’s donating £100k , not £1m and only if they are charged.
Its probably interest on the interest and tax deductable…

296 ~ The real stig says
Stupidity is the quality or condition of being stupid, or lacking intelligence. This quality can be attributed to both an individual himself (John Smith is stupid) or his actions, words or beliefs (John Smith’s policies are stupid). The determination of who is stupid is difficult, despite attempts to measure intelligence (and thus stupidity) such as IQ tests….. take it from us….richard mcbranson is stupid….you heard it hear first
