Madeleine McCann: Call Off The Dogs, Kate McCann’s Tears And Fatima
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
THE TIMES page 9: “McCanns send to US for help against evidence of sniffer dogs.”
Gerry and Kate McCann have consulted lawyers working on behalf of Eugene Zapata in Madison, Wisconsin.
In October 1976, Zapata’s wife, Jeanette, went missing. Her body has never been found. Last year sniffer dogs were brought in and Zapata was charged with her murder. The case went before Judge Patrick Fielder who said the evidence – dogs had picked up the scent of a corpse in Zapata’s basement – was inadmissible. He said the dogs were unreliable.
The dogs have yet to make a comment.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “MADDY JUDGE: LET ME TELL ALL.”
Pedro Daniel dos Anjos Frias wants to “speak freely” about the case.
Pages 6 and 7: “Mum’s tears at 11am Mass.” Once again the Mirror is all eyes for Kate McCann’s eyes. She is crying.
In church, Father Keith Tomlinson narrates the parable of the Prodigal Son. An eight-year-old child called Molly Earp reads “Jesus please continue to love and protect us, until she is found.”
And then Jesus can have a rest and the police can resume normal duties…
Pages 8 and 9: “On the beach Gerry gave Maddy loads of hugs and kisses, he was a perfect dad..The next time I saw him was about midnight..I saw a man alone, desperate. He was crying and screaming her name over and over and over again.” Words from a “WAITER AT MADDIE’S LAST MEAL” before she vanished.
THE SUN front page: “Maddie ‘gag’ lift.” Friends of Kate and Gerry McCann are hopeful of being allowed to speak out and defend themselves. A judge has asked for a lifting of Portugal’s secrecy laws.
Pages 6 and 7: “AGONY TO COME.” The Sun produces a picture of Kate and Gerry McCann’s wedding day. They are holding Kate’s goddaughter Ellie. There is also a new picture of Madeleine McCann “looking angelic”. Have you seen her? Or are you watching the parents?
THE EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE. POLICE TO SEARCH SHRINE FOR BODY.” The McCanns went to Fatima. The McCanns car clocked up 1,709 miles in the fives weeks after their daughter went missing.
THE WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER Pages 2 and 3: “Hand in hand, McCanns go to family church.” The “devoutly Catholic couple” are leaving for church from their “£600,000 home”. Kate McCann is carrying Cuddle Cat.
Pages 4 and 5: “1,000 letters each day in support of the McCanns. Between 500 and 1,000 letters a day arrive at the McCanns’ home. “There are some crank letters,” says a spokesman for the family, “but that’s inevitable.”
None of these letters are believed to point to the whereabouts of Madeleine McCann.
Alex Cayles, a former neighbour of the McCanns, says “I never heard Kate or Gerry raise their voices to their children or anyone else.” Can the same be said of any parents of three very young children?
DAILY MAIL front page: a picture of Kate McCann smiling.
“MADELEINE:
• Doubt cast on sniffer dogs
• Police frontman quits investigation
• Branson funds the McCanns’ defence
• Witness’s vital new evidence”
Pages 10 and 11:2 “Maddie: Is the case crumbling?”
Chief inspector Olegario Sousa has resigned “in disgust” at the way in which fellow Portuguese officers have been briefing the media behind his back.
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE MUM ON MURDER RAP. Now cops claim to have found ‘a motive’.”
The Star says police have read Kate McCann’s diary and “claim it reveals she had a motive to kill”.
Pages 4 and 5: “DID KATE HAVE A MOTIVE?”
Well, we haven’t read the diary, but…
“The idea that Portuguese detectives are looking at my daughter’s most personal thoughts and taking them out of context is terrible,” says Kate McCann’s father Brian Healy.
Pages 6 and 7: “HUNT AT HOLY SHRINE.” Is Madeleine McCann’s body buried at Fatima, one of the Catholic Church’s holiest sites? The Star says the couple went there three weeks after their daughter went missing.
We wonder. Is she? Or is she buried in Germany, America, London or Morocco, places also visited by the McCanns?
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “New allegations against McCanns - As the McCanns begin a new campaign to clear their names, further allegations emerged over the weekend.”
Oh?
“The hire car: The Renault Scenic hired by the McCanns 25 days after Madeleine went missing. New claims centre on its high mileage. Between May 27 and July 3, it was driven 1,700 miles, with police looking into the possibility that it may have been used to dispose of a body…There were also reports that detectives were waiting for permission from a judge to seize and dismantle the car to search for ‘traces of skin’.”
THE GUARDIAN: No Maddy news today.

Could Kate be Catherine, Katherine, Katrina. There are lots of derivatives, or are you saying there only one Healey from Liverpool. Surely she can’t be lying about her status? But why the name change?

OK Ben, here’s a positive - I’m going on holiday on Saturday. That’s about as positive as you’ll get on here, because let’s face it, this whole case is a shit storm of misery with only one outcome - Madeleine will never be found and I doubt anyone will ever be bought to book over it - so what’s to be optomistic about? Chelsea’s chances for the league? No. House prices? No. A happy family reunion? No fucking chance!!!
September 17th, 2007 at 3:09 pm
If Kate really told the police she took cuddle cat with her to work then that explains why her husband would be dominating her. If I was that stupid I would hope somebody would shut me up.
September 17th, 2007 at 3:06 pm
Gerry a control freak?
Does that mean he reads the map as well as Drive the car.
He obviously got rid of the body rather than Kate then.
So he got her to do it, to have the power over her.
However its not implausible to suggest she did it to have some power over him ,she took the apple of his “close eyes” away.

465 Sadly Jake, not many people consider looking at a 14 year old in a sexual way as paedophilia. As a society we are accepting of behaviours which, 100 years ago, would have meant pillory for the people exhibiting such behaviour. I talk of course about underage sex, and the partaking of sex with as many partners as possible until one is in their mid-20’s (not necessarily lots of partners at the same time).
Saving yourself, keeping hold of your virginity is considered to be lame and uncool, and I hate the fact that my oldest boys are guilty of being, in a word, sl*ts. Boys sleeping around is to me, as bad as girls.

473 - If you’re innocent, you’re innocent. You certainly don’t need Pinochet’s ex-lawyer to defend you. Hey…and defend you when you haven’t even been charged with anything.

The McCann’s have themselves to blame if they don’t like the amount of adverse publicity. They fired up the media in a ridiculous way and they’re only reaping what they’ve sown.
September 17th, 2007 at 3:05 pm
Just a thought…McCanns say they are innocent..why do they need PR gurus, high price lawyers, influencial backers? Is ANYONE looking for the child?
The fund could be much more than 1million…if it’s not to be used it should be frozen. Very odd happenings.

446 The Real Stig Says: “No, my original statement was correct.”
Yes it was, but so was the statement (below) that you said was “completely untrue” (343)
Original post by Oscuro (75)
“In fact the McCann’s contradict themselves all the time. Over “vowing” to stay in Portugal and keep ignoring their twins, or when declared suspects all of a sudden wanbt to go home in the interestss of the twins.”
Stig, I was only trying to give balance to your one sided statement… no wonder people find you a pain on here….

I just checked the GMC medical website and found Gerald McCann as registered on 01 AUG 1993. He graduated from Glasgow. Listed as:
Specialist Register General (internal) Medicine from 31 MAR 2005
Cardiology from 31 MAR 2005
Kate McCann - nothing listed that would fit in with her graduation dates, nor nothing for Healey. There is however a Kirsty McCann, graduated from Liverpool, 1992, fully registered 01 AUG 1993 and is also registered on the GP register from 31 MAR 2006. Is the same person? If so, I wonder why she is known as Kate and not Kirsty? Kirsty Healey/Kate McCann - two very different names but possibly the same person.

theres a lot of negativity and pessimistic views on this forum(just speculating)
i wonder why no one wants to speculate on the possitives?
and dont say ‘what possitives’ cos thats a crap answer!
just a question
September 17th, 2007 at 3:02 pm
The people who believe in the McCann’s, who have made them into idols, have nothing else to believe in. The media makes a lot of money off of this form of idolatry. If we lived in a just society, the McCann’s would have been put out of sight and sound where they could not corrupt the young with their bad example.
September 17th, 2007 at 3:00 pm
Refusing to talk about your emotions - or talk at all - to a journalist would strike many people as normal behaviour. In any case, Portuguese law takes very seriously the dangers of prejudicial reporting. The McCanns and their friends were warned from the start that, beyond the bare, factual details, they should not disclose publicly information that might be relevant in court, and, officially at least, the police are under the same inhibitions. All this is airily dismissed in the British press as “secrecy”.
But a child’s disappearance, like politics, royalty, marriage and death, is now part of the showbusiness industry. The boundaries between real life and fictional drama are increasingly blurred.
Coronation Street, the Blair-Brown struggle (now sadly closed after a long run), Big Brother and the McCann case are treated by the media in roughly the same fashion. Emotions become public property. Grief must be expressed according to agreed conventions.
As Dominic Lawson pointed out in an excellent column in the Independent, Kate McCann is expected to cry (but not, he might have added, to wail or beat her chest as Middle Eastern mothers do) and, if she fails to do so publicly, the newspapers will say she cried in private even if they couldn’t possibly know.
Unless, of course, she’s found guilty. In which case, the lack of tears will be evidence of a cold-hearted monster.
Red-top reticence
When I read last week that the Press Complaints Commission had censured FHM magazine for printing a photograph of a topless 14-year-old girl, I looked to the press for coverage and comment. Surely, I thought, newspapers that are so determined to root out “evil” paedophiles and to denounce “pervs” who view child pornography would have something to say. True, the magazine insisted she looked older than 14 and it has promised not to do it again - but I’ve a feeling I’ve heard those excuses somewhere before.
Yet only the Guardian carried more than a paragraph and several papers ignored the story. There was not a word, for example, in the Sun, whose editor, Rebekah Wade, has always been such a sturdy opponent of paedophilia. That wouldn’t be - would it? - because the red-tops fear they might themselves be caught out one day
September 17th, 2007 at 3:00 pm
yes evil people stick to their stories but normal go over and over again and eventually you would turn on eachother

449. I’m nearly bored of it - but not quite yet.
Poor Madeleine though - not only did her parents neglect her but by conducting this pointless P.R. campaign they’ve made her a myth. I don’t care where she is anymore because I don’t think of her as real anymore.

Sadly no Billy - put the Old Man back in your trousers - it’s a room where you put mad people - you know the kind - the sort who kill their kids and then try to cover it with a media circus. It’s laso the place where you put women who are impervious to my charms - they have to be either mad or dead - although saying that I have managed to get a bit of a response from ………… no don’t go there.
September 17th, 2007 at 2:56 pm
445 - It’s as old as history itself where a partner stands by another through the face of overwhelming evidence. I just looked back at early McCann interviews in May. Gerry does give quite a lot of eye contact and it’s Kate who appears shifty and hesitant. As time wears on, you notice more of a change in her than him. He’s the dominant one who seems to steamroller over everyone.
September 17th, 2007 at 2:55 pm
449 what is a rubber room?
Some form of S&M dungeon?
Ooh let me put my Marigolds on.

i meant that if they are telling the truth,
their 100% belief in eachother is not normal it would waiver at points, to me it seems more of a pact ” a front” rehearsed and contrived, not the normal reactions of most humans.nevermind the blogs jogging prs photoshoots wristbands ribbons etc……….
September 17th, 2007 at 2:54 pm
443 I’ve long been under the impression that GMcC thinks he’s God . I think you are right there are greater forces, just what are they, though?
September 17th, 2007 at 2:53 pm

And truth is about perception. Each person see’s their own version of truth, which is why when witnesses tell the truth the stories are similar but never identical.
September 17th, 2007 at 2:53 pm
452 - lol…yes I know.
September 17th, 2007 at 2:52 pm
I think the other reason there is so much anti-McCann sentiment is that the pair of them have always got an answer for stupid things but no answers to real questions.
For instance…Kate said she took Cuddle Cat to work and there were dead bodies there. That’s plain goofy. Does she always take her kids toys to work?
Why would you have discrepancies on the timeline that evening? It’s hardly difficult to cobble together a compelling and believable timeline amongst 9 people plus one tennis partner is it? But they can’t.
We haven’t heard from “smell of death” for quite a while now but he/she said the timeline will be shown to be complete fiction.

I’m not even sure Team McCann intends to actually go through the trouble of trying to “disprove” Scoobie Doo evidence.
I think it’s much more to do with having a daily barrage to discredit the police case (not taht we actually know the official case b.t.w.).
Every time Team McCann farts it’s on the news, so it doesn’t matter if they’re talking about being “framed”, “craters” in the “ludicrous” PJ case, “DNA isn’t reliable”, or “Scoobie Doo just talks Poo”, “PJs took too long to come to the scene”, “we’re going to sue the Portuguese Rags”,….they never have to substantiate their statements very much because the press laps it indiscriminately up anyway and it muddies the case further.
It’s all about reducing the credibility of the police case through doubt…
Remember….”perception is reality”
September 17th, 2007 at 2:50 pm
Jesus - are you lot still on about this? Haven’t you exhausted every theory available?
Here’s one for you (can’t be bothered to see if some smart cokkie has beaten me to it) Richard Branson is the abductor - the donation is guilt money. Look on Necker Island if you want to find her.
Anyway, why don’t you all give this up, it’s affecting your minds. Even Toni seems more interested in the case than in my advances, and to my mind, when one of the ladies fails to fall for my charm then she is ready for the rubber room.
