Madeleine McCann: Call Off The Dogs, Kate McCann’s Tears And Fatima
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
THE TIMES page 9: “McCanns send to US for help against evidence of sniffer dogs.”
Gerry and Kate McCann have consulted lawyers working on behalf of Eugene Zapata in Madison, Wisconsin.
In October 1976, Zapata’s wife, Jeanette, went missing. Her body has never been found. Last year sniffer dogs were brought in and Zapata was charged with her murder. The case went before Judge Patrick Fielder who said the evidence – dogs had picked up the scent of a corpse in Zapata’s basement – was inadmissible. He said the dogs were unreliable.
The dogs have yet to make a comment.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “MADDY JUDGE: LET ME TELL ALL.”
Pedro Daniel dos Anjos Frias wants to “speak freely” about the case.
Pages 6 and 7: “Mum’s tears at 11am Mass.” Once again the Mirror is all eyes for Kate McCann’s eyes. She is crying.
In church, Father Keith Tomlinson narrates the parable of the Prodigal Son. An eight-year-old child called Molly Earp reads “Jesus please continue to love and protect us, until she is found.”
And then Jesus can have a rest and the police can resume normal duties…
Pages 8 and 9: “On the beach Gerry gave Maddy loads of hugs and kisses, he was a perfect dad..The next time I saw him was about midnight..I saw a man alone, desperate. He was crying and screaming her name over and over and over again.” Words from a “WAITER AT MADDIE’S LAST MEAL” before she vanished.
THE SUN front page: “Maddie ‘gag’ lift.” Friends of Kate and Gerry McCann are hopeful of being allowed to speak out and defend themselves. A judge has asked for a lifting of Portugal’s secrecy laws.
Pages 6 and 7: “AGONY TO COME.” The Sun produces a picture of Kate and Gerry McCann’s wedding day. They are holding Kate’s goddaughter Ellie. There is also a new picture of Madeleine McCann “looking angelic”. Have you seen her? Or are you watching the parents?
THE EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE. POLICE TO SEARCH SHRINE FOR BODY.” The McCanns went to Fatima. The McCanns car clocked up 1,709 miles in the fives weeks after their daughter went missing.
THE WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER Pages 2 and 3: “Hand in hand, McCanns go to family church.” The “devoutly Catholic couple” are leaving for church from their “£600,000 home”. Kate McCann is carrying Cuddle Cat.
Pages 4 and 5: “1,000 letters each day in support of the McCanns. Between 500 and 1,000 letters a day arrive at the McCanns’ home. “There are some crank letters,” says a spokesman for the family, “but that’s inevitable.”
None of these letters are believed to point to the whereabouts of Madeleine McCann.
Alex Cayles, a former neighbour of the McCanns, says “I never heard Kate or Gerry raise their voices to their children or anyone else.” Can the same be said of any parents of three very young children?
DAILY MAIL front page: a picture of Kate McCann smiling.
“MADELEINE:
• Doubt cast on sniffer dogs
• Police frontman quits investigation
• Branson funds the McCanns’ defence
• Witness’s vital new evidence”
Pages 10 and 11:2 “Maddie: Is the case crumbling?”
Chief inspector Olegario Sousa has resigned “in disgust” at the way in which fellow Portuguese officers have been briefing the media behind his back.
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE MUM ON MURDER RAP. Now cops claim to have found ‘a motive’.”
The Star says police have read Kate McCann’s diary and “claim it reveals she had a motive to kill”.
Pages 4 and 5: “DID KATE HAVE A MOTIVE?”
Well, we haven’t read the diary, but…
“The idea that Portuguese detectives are looking at my daughter’s most personal thoughts and taking them out of context is terrible,” says Kate McCann’s father Brian Healy.
Pages 6 and 7: “HUNT AT HOLY SHRINE.” Is Madeleine McCann’s body buried at Fatima, one of the Catholic Church’s holiest sites? The Star says the couple went there three weeks after their daughter went missing.
We wonder. Is she? Or is she buried in Germany, America, London or Morocco, places also visited by the McCanns?
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “New allegations against McCanns - As the McCanns begin a new campaign to clear their names, further allegations emerged over the weekend.”
Oh?
“The hire car: The Renault Scenic hired by the McCanns 25 days after Madeleine went missing. New claims centre on its high mileage. Between May 27 and July 3, it was driven 1,700 miles, with police looking into the possibility that it may have been used to dispose of a body…There were also reports that detectives were waiting for permission from a judge to seize and dismantle the car to search for ‘traces of skin’.”
THE GUARDIAN: No Maddy news today.

542. Jon,
“What do you say to the lower class family with a missing child who cannot get much if any air time or print coverage about their child’s abducction?”
I say, Paulette, could you please help these people - in your early posts you seemed clear that you had the capacity to do so.
September 17th, 2007 at 4:42 pm
562. Can you really leave 10 year olds alone in Canada? - should drop my older children off there for a few years.
Canada is in the top 3 for highest reported number of missing children cases. US is first (of course - they are the best in everything)
and then 2nd is either UK or Canada.
I’ll try to find out the country with the most abducted lawyer cases so that you can go check that out for yourself.

Where I live, we have normal summers except for the onslaught of mosquitoes and blackflies. You cannot garden or camp without netting. We are on the edge of a national park. We are a heavily wooded area. Winters are very cold though and you must protect yourself from frostbite.

542. Jon,
What do you say to the lower class family with a missing child who cannot get much if any air time or print coverage about their child’s abducction? They don’t have the connections of the McCanns either. Both parents work and they have a set of twins. They don’t have a nanny nor do they have a limited company set up in their missing child’s name. No celebrities are stepping forward to get their child’s name out to the public. The police are stretched to capacity and strained due to all the attention they must pay to the McCann case. They do not have the personnel power to handle the voracious demands of the McCann case and case X simultaneously with any fairness.
Don’t be fooled. Class, education and skin color (and of course nepotism) figure prominently in this story and how it is being played out.

Top 3 reasons to doubt the McCando’s:
1. Mrs. McCando’s expressionless first TV interview, which she READ OUT.
2. Going everywhere they could except to the locations where Madeleine had been found.
3. Scarpering back to the UK immediately they’re declared suspects.

Canada,
It was tongue in check - yesterday I was told in no uncertain terms by the Taliban element here that children (up to 16 years old by some accounts) should be watched 24/7, preferably by an adult actaully in the same room - which seems problematic for those of us not dwelling in single room accommodation - this lead to a discussion about the arrangement of the accommodation at Seymour Towers.
Can you really leave 10 year olds alone in Canada? - should drop my older children off there for a few years.

“544 ~ blunger…now that clarence is watching you….where do you stand…. guilty…not guilty…or on the fence ?”
Almost all evidence either way is still in the category of leak/rumour/unsourced.
Except the evidence for what I, and apparently Portuguese law, consider criminal child neglect. This I regard as clearly proven by the parents own public admission.
Beyond that, even taking the quality of the evidence into account, I give “abduction by stranger” about 7% probability, but of course that means that it is still impossible to rule out.
We shall know more (and be able to review/harden our probabilities) if the reported change in the law allows the PJ to officially reveal the evidence.
I want to know more about this law change, but googling still doesn’t give me anything real. Has Molly told us ?

Unfortunately, I will only be single, if, by some miracle I get pregnant with No 8, as Mr SSS says he will leave LOL (NOT that I believe him, we can’t live without each other!)
Is this idyllic little town “in the north” very cold? Are we talking Eskimo type weather here?

can everybody state the top 3 reasons you doubt/believe the mc cann with number one being the top reason.
September 17th, 2007 at 4:31 pm
JK is Junior Kindergarten and yes, in Canada, $30 an hour can be quite a healthy income. Quitting my job to raise 3 kids took half of our spending power away. If you are single with this income, you could buy a very nice house and go on holidays to Portugal quite often.
September 17th, 2007 at 4:28 pm
I don’t know about Russia, I may forget Toni in SA to run off to Canada with Canada - it sounds idyllic where she lives!
September 17th, 2007 at 4:28 pm
If it is true that Clarence Mitchell, the former Foreign Office wallah has been appointed official spokesman for the McCanndo’s then give up all hope all ye disbelievers. The suspicion that the government is heavily into defending the gorgeous couple at all costs is now a certainty. What now pussycats?
September 17th, 2007 at 4:27 pm
544 Aparantly all those good folk we remember every Poppy Day died in vain. Isn’t it said that they died in order that we might live free of fascist regimes in a democratic society? It’s starting to feel like Russia here!

i think she says
“father would you please bless this photo of madeline?”
Is that turning to anglican story true?
very very odd for a devout catholic

Who is JK? Is $30 per hour a lot?
September 17th, 2007 at 4:25 pm
544 to be fair if this were headed towards a jury trial in the UK - the speculation on this board and others like it, if it was widely read (which I doubt, but would be very interested to hear from the moderator on) would potentially prejudice the prospects of a fair trial - wide spread baseless speculation pre-trial is dangerous in the run up to any jury trial.
As a lawyer I would not touch forum if it were about something that could end in a jury trial - the Portugese examinaing Mags, or whoever they are, are not likely to be reading this stuff looking for inspiration.
I expect the Gov is going to crack down, at least in respect of stuff that could prejudice a jury trial

I have to say, much as it pains me to agree with Impressed now I realise that he thought I was a man, he has a point. Who put about this abduction theory? The Teflon 2 did. The PJ said at the start, it didn’t look like abduction to them, and they have stuck with that.

Seymour
As I stated, the video store is up the street, I could walk there in 1 minute. I got off with a warning which is all it was worth because I was so close I could have thrown the video at the store. It is legal in Canada to leave 10 year old alone. I know where I live and what area I live in so you cannot judge me. I have sent my kids to walk the dog alone at that age. Every kid from JK and up walk to school and back again alone. This is life in a small town up north. Young children walk home at lunch and back to school again. All sport programs are run after school where the children walk home afterwards. I quit a $30 dollar an hour job to raise my kids. Because of this, I am well aware of the my childrens capabilities and limitations.

Easy cuddle cat goes to work with KM as its her security blanket, does she show any other traits to back this up?
Or its to remind KM of M whilst shes at work.
Or is it to give to M when KM picks her up from creche in the car.
Or it didnt go to work and thats a lie.
Do we know where KM got cuddle cat from? and when?
Can any other Dr from the surgery verify that KM took cuddlecat to work with her.
If KM is a serial killer then cuddle cat might be a trophy.

Ok - forget the McCann - Universal McCann name connection.
It is an irrelevant coincidence. The name dates back to the US 1911 founder of what grew to be a huge worldwide conglomerate.
Concentrate on Clarence Mitchell, the government, and its new plan to monitor and intevene in blogs.
My guess is that Mitchel has NOT genuinely given up his government job. He may have been “seconded” to look after the McCanns in some slightly indirect way.
I would expect government moves toward censorship of online discussion of legal cases. Look for them within a couple of years, after the MMU submits a (probably secret) report to the government, in which online discussion of the McCann case will feature quite heavily.
There will never be any charges against the McCanns (read Spudgun here). The case will be used as an excuse to increase internet censorship.
September 17th, 2007 at 4:17 pm
538 ~ jon…. but think rationally now….. where is the evidence MM was abducted…. think hard……. hmmmm ….still thinking….. right exactly…there is non…. who are the only ones promoting abduction….hmmm let me guess…. two thirds of the only named suspects
September 17th, 2007 at 4:15 pm
“Has it been a normal class family with no heavy political friends or famous backers this would have been news for about 4 days tops.”
I know I am begining to look a bit like Christoph now quoting everybody all over the place but I feel that this is exactly the type of mindset that is putting this investigation on the wrong track.
We have got to get rid of these chips on our shoulders and look past the wealth or not of the Mcanns and remember that there are children here that are missing and havent been found. There are countless examples of the ‘normal class families’ leaving children in houses etc and not getting prosecuted.
We must stay focussed on the main priority - These children must be found or if not whoever is responsible for taking them must be found.

as i remember the kampuch or whatever her name was was always out in the garden and on trips with her abductor.
if her parents had looked in the right place, then yes, they would have found her.

285..Seymour Law.
You are so full of it.!! LOL
You said the other day you only do civil law.Stop posing as something more than what you are.. that goes for your class obsessiveness as well.
