Madeleine McCann: Call Off The Dogs, Kate McCann’s Tears And Fatima
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
THE TIMES page 9: “McCanns send to US for help against evidence of sniffer dogs.”
Gerry and Kate McCann have consulted lawyers working on behalf of Eugene Zapata in Madison, Wisconsin.
In October 1976, Zapata’s wife, Jeanette, went missing. Her body has never been found. Last year sniffer dogs were brought in and Zapata was charged with her murder. The case went before Judge Patrick Fielder who said the evidence – dogs had picked up the scent of a corpse in Zapata’s basement – was inadmissible. He said the dogs were unreliable.
The dogs have yet to make a comment.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “MADDY JUDGE: LET ME TELL ALL.”
Pedro Daniel dos Anjos Frias wants to “speak freely” about the case.
Pages 6 and 7: “Mum’s tears at 11am Mass.” Once again the Mirror is all eyes for Kate McCann’s eyes. She is crying.
In church, Father Keith Tomlinson narrates the parable of the Prodigal Son. An eight-year-old child called Molly Earp reads “Jesus please continue to love and protect us, until she is found.”
And then Jesus can have a rest and the police can resume normal duties…
Pages 8 and 9: “On the beach Gerry gave Maddy loads of hugs and kisses, he was a perfect dad..The next time I saw him was about midnight..I saw a man alone, desperate. He was crying and screaming her name over and over and over again.” Words from a “WAITER AT MADDIE’S LAST MEAL” before she vanished.
THE SUN front page: “Maddie ‘gag’ lift.” Friends of Kate and Gerry McCann are hopeful of being allowed to speak out and defend themselves. A judge has asked for a lifting of Portugal’s secrecy laws.
Pages 6 and 7: “AGONY TO COME.” The Sun produces a picture of Kate and Gerry McCann’s wedding day. They are holding Kate’s goddaughter Ellie. There is also a new picture of Madeleine McCann “looking angelic”. Have you seen her? Or are you watching the parents?
THE EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE. POLICE TO SEARCH SHRINE FOR BODY.” The McCanns went to Fatima. The McCanns car clocked up 1,709 miles in the fives weeks after their daughter went missing.
THE WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER Pages 2 and 3: “Hand in hand, McCanns go to family church.” The “devoutly Catholic couple” are leaving for church from their “£600,000 home”. Kate McCann is carrying Cuddle Cat.
Pages 4 and 5: “1,000 letters each day in support of the McCanns. Between 500 and 1,000 letters a day arrive at the McCanns’ home. “There are some crank letters,” says a spokesman for the family, “but that’s inevitable.”
None of these letters are believed to point to the whereabouts of Madeleine McCann.
Alex Cayles, a former neighbour of the McCanns, says “I never heard Kate or Gerry raise their voices to their children or anyone else.” Can the same be said of any parents of three very young children?
DAILY MAIL front page: a picture of Kate McCann smiling.
“MADELEINE:
• Doubt cast on sniffer dogs
• Police frontman quits investigation
• Branson funds the McCanns’ defence
• Witness’s vital new evidence”
Pages 10 and 11:2 “Maddie: Is the case crumbling?”
Chief inspector Olegario Sousa has resigned “in disgust” at the way in which fellow Portuguese officers have been briefing the media behind his back.
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE MUM ON MURDER RAP. Now cops claim to have found ‘a motive’.”
The Star says police have read Kate McCann’s diary and “claim it reveals she had a motive to kill”.
Pages 4 and 5: “DID KATE HAVE A MOTIVE?”
Well, we haven’t read the diary, but…
“The idea that Portuguese detectives are looking at my daughter’s most personal thoughts and taking them out of context is terrible,” says Kate McCann’s father Brian Healy.
Pages 6 and 7: “HUNT AT HOLY SHRINE.” Is Madeleine McCann’s body buried at Fatima, one of the Catholic Church’s holiest sites? The Star says the couple went there three weeks after their daughter went missing.
We wonder. Is she? Or is she buried in Germany, America, London or Morocco, places also visited by the McCanns?
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “New allegations against McCanns - As the McCanns begin a new campaign to clear their names, further allegations emerged over the weekend.”
Oh?
“The hire car: The Renault Scenic hired by the McCanns 25 days after Madeleine went missing. New claims centre on its high mileage. Between May 27 and July 3, it was driven 1,700 miles, with police looking into the possibility that it may have been used to dispose of a body…There were also reports that detectives were waiting for permission from a judge to seize and dismantle the car to search for ‘traces of skin’.”
THE GUARDIAN: No Maddy news today.

714 Quite often the apathy is a sign of the depression, so it would by apparent until the fluoxetines or whatever start working. They are designed to have a drip effect so that an improvement should appear in a month or so. If KM is on anti-ds it would be hardly surprising.
I’m going to watch this ITV thing which I expect to annilhate the PJ. Will dutifully report back to global friends!

(715) Impressed:
Regarding the laws of libel, I would think (and hope), forums wouldn’t be under as much speculation as blogs. Comments on these forums are coming from legal (as of now) media reports, whereas blogs are sometimes written a bit differently. I would think a good, decent lawyer would get the person off on the fair comment defense, as that appears to me what this is. Of course, we don’t all have Richard Branson contributing to our possible legal funds, so if the McCanns hire a really good, convincing lawyer, I suppose they have a better shot.

If you read all the posts you’ll see I replied to the use of the word “stupid”. To say otherwise isn’t necessarily agreement that you’re accepting they are no longer alive. Neither is it giving up hope. Both parents say a lot of things that sound strange and that’s why a lot of us are gripped with the whole story.
I’d be more convinced of their innocence if they were doing things you’d expect…like pleading for whoever had her (assuming the abduction theory) to give her back…or the opposite reaction “give her back or we’ll tear you apart” (an angrier reaction).
September 17th, 2007 at 8:02 pm
a) leaving your children alone with no babysitter and the door (apparently) unlocked.
b) Convincing the whole world of an abduction but making no consistent appeals to that abductor.
c) Telling the whole world all the time to look for your ‘live’ daughter when any normal parent would suspect the worst as time passed.
Now I was going to sit down for a day and compile a list which would be far bigger than this one but I dont need to really. All of the above is enough to at least arouse major suspicion.

Good evening all!
Sorry to butt in 700-odd posts down, but there aint no way I’m going to try and go through this lot!
Something’s been playing on my mind quite a bit since I read “yet another” report of Madeleine earlier today. In the report that I read, the “all-too-famous” photograph of Madeleine appeared - the one which was SUPPOSEDLY taken on the day she disappeared at about 14h30 in the afternoon - she is sitting next to the pool with her feet in the water. Now I believe that there is a date and time stamp to this photo - or so I understood from the report.
Now, with all the “discrepancies” that have been going on (I’m referring in particular to the supposed statements of the Tapas9), who can be 100% sure that the photograph in question was actually taken on 3 May? Yes, I realise that the supposed date and time stamp say so, but surely this is according to what is set into the particular piece of equipment taking the photograph?
What has been really niggling at me, is that Madeleine was supposedly collected from the creche in the late afternoon. Why would they have her with them at 14h30, then drop her off at the creche, only to collect her 3 (or a little more) hours later. What were they doing in this time? They weren’t prepared to pay for babysitting services, so why pay for a little over 3 hours worth of creche time? (I’m presuming that the creche charges per day here). And yes, I have also read that the creche was closed sometime over lunch, but 14h30 seems a bit out of lunchtime to me.
That photograph could have been taken the previous day, or even in the morning. All of these reports of waiters, etc. (and CCTV filming her at dinner at supposedly 18h30) …. who says that these reports are actually correct, and not great imagination from a couple of reporters?
The problem here is that there is absolutely NO definite timeline of who (apart from anyone involved with the actual holiday party) saw Madeleine last and WHEN? And the discrepancies between everyone involved who knew Madeleine that evening leave a lot to be desired!
Madeleine could have disappeared a lot earlier than what is actually thought, and because of all the “false” reporting in the media, people just PRESUME that she went missing on the evening of the 3rd May!

There is Gerry’s profile on friendsunited.co.uk. It was modified on May 19th (16 days after Madeleine went missing) and the current version is:
Quote:
—————————————————————
Good to see so many familiar names and a few faces! Is anyone not doing well?
Finished medicine and working as a cardiology registrar in Leicestersince Jan 2000 (hopefully temporarily). Had a brilliant year in New Zealand 1995/96. Married to Kate (Healy, for those docs in Glasgow) and very happy although no kids-yet!
Don’t get to Glasgow that often but have bumped into a few old friends around the southside where my mum still lives.
June 2003- Still in Leicester but now family of 3 after birth of Madeleine Beth on 12/05/03. Thankfully she takes after her mother although definitely has my lungs even without a dew drinks.
August 2004- Bones- glad i left after 5th year! Currently in Amsterdam learning some fancy heart scanning(MRI) but returning to UK in New Year when hopefully will become family of 5. Looking for a consultant job and shortlist is Glasgow, Liverpool, Leicester in fact pretty much anywhere north of Birmingham
April 2005- Back in Leicester and looking for a job. Now father of three with Sean and Amelie joing Maddie.
May 2007 Thanks to everyone for support and good wishes, it really does help.
————————————————————
Quote ends…
But two sites - crimeblog.us and truecrimebloguk.blogspot.com – copied Gerry’s profile from friendsunited.co.uk on the 5th of May:
April 2005- Back in Leicester and looking for a job. Now father of three with Sean and Amelie joing Maddie. Anyone fancy babysitting?
So “anyone fancy babysitting” was removed from the profile.
That’s probably not that strange – but I still find a bit odd that he would go and modify his profile on May 19th.

(714) “them to find one that works or a dosage that is most effective.”
“So she may have been on them from the start…”
I hate corrections, hopefully my comment made sense without them.

673 ~ Burden of poof…….. you name belies your lack of intelligence…but then i had second thoughts…and instead came to the conclusion that you are just a tw@t…. on the laws libel …..for your information, what you write even on the net [oooh oops there i go a again - what an arsehole you are, does it really really matter if I call it net as opposed to the technically savvy web]….any way as i was saying what you write on the net is not immune from the law….. if you still doubt me about the laws of libel can i suggest you visit…
http://www.urban75.com/Action/libel.html
[titled Basic UK libel laws for idiots - very apt i thought]
Now why do i say all of this…. well clarence mitchell is now at the pr helm…. he is a very powerful man…far sharper than that dopey wotshername…. forums are coming under the spot light…. the mccann pr machine has gone into over drive this weekend….. it will get worse…so if cm’s team doesn’t like what is being said in these forums…why not make an example of a ill informed poster…it would send out the right signal….
still doubting…look what happened when record companies issued court action to ordinary joe public for on line copyright infringements….. all of those on the wrong end thought that because it happened on the net [oops there i go again] they were immune from prosecution…well as cilla would say surprise surprise they were not….
so my message to you is net net net …now fk you !!!

I’m with Stevo there, when anti-depressant/anxiety medications are being tried out, they take about a month to kick in and really work, if they do work. Most people may have to participate in a little trial and error with them to find one/dosage will be the most effective. During this trial stage, I have seen quite a few people display apathetic behavior; which is why I believe she may be on them now.
Also, it isn’t unheard of for a doctor to prescribe some medication at first to people after such an experience. So she may have been on them for the start before she discussed with her doctor if she needed to start a normal dosage.

It is not a ’stupid’ thing to say - it is an ‘emotional’ thing to say. To say otherwise means as a parent, you are accepting that the likely scenario is that your child is no longer alive. Why would a parent prefer to give up hope and throw away any justification for continuing the search and urging others to keep on looking?
From their point of view, they might argue that it would be stupid to give up hope assumme she is dead without any evidence that she is.

(707) Andrew:
A BMW means you are holier than thou in the eyes of the law (unless they want to give you a ticket) and a prime snare for the (un)holier than thou ladies. Based on that one fact, you’re pretty much set where the shallow end of the gene of the pool is concerned. Be sure to swim about though, you could be upgraded to a Rolls-Royce and end up in the wishing well of life! How delightful!

710 - Head Nurse
I never said I did know what KM is like in everyday life. To be in a zombie like state like a lot of people are on anti-depressants is a simple observation. My issue is that neither parents show any of the more usual emotions typical of losing a child. Those emotions are involuntary ones and we never see any of that from the parents. I’d say if Kate was on anti-depressants she looks typical of people I know that have been on them so I dispute your assertion that they are clearly ineffective.
September 17th, 2007 at 7:42 pm
674 Canada : ‘nerves’ isn’t, as far as I am aware, a diagnosis recognised by the medical profession.
676 Stevo : Unless you are a personal friend of KM, I imagine that you don’t have a clue how she presented in her normal, everyday life. Your only knowledge of her is the saturation media coverage following her daughter’s disappearance. To appear to be low in mood or depressed would be an entirely normal and understandable reaction to traumatic events. If, as you assert, KM is on anti-depressants, they are clearly ineffective.

(705) Mary:
“It is dangerous nonsense to decide that they are automatically above suspicion. The media have decided on what the outcome should be regardless of not being in a position to know what lead PJ to the Mccanns.”
I agree, but the PJ also thought the McCanns were automatically above suspicion as well, so they’re at fault too. I think everyone, involved or not involved, is a bit frustrated with the way the case has been handled from the start, possible misdirection, evidence being destroyed/possibly tampered with. Unless someone confesses, tips them off, or a body (alive or dead) is found, it looks like this could be one of those cases were we’ll simply never know the truth. Annoying for us, but terrible for Madeleine’s justice.
September 17th, 2007 at 7:40 pm
Hi all - you probably know this ITV is going to weigh up the McCann Case at 8pm in 30 mins - which is real impressive as we’ve been doing it for weeks on here
September 17th, 2007 at 7:40 pm
705 “The tabloids are now running a smear campaign against the PJ which incudes personal insults regarding the appearance of individual offficers”
Yeah, never mind facts and motivations, or TRUTH, let’s judge on appearances!
I drive a BMW though? does this mean I’m sort of OK? My Kids DNA isn’t in the boot though, sorry.
Kate and Gezza Smart= Innocent. We all know that!!
September 17th, 2007 at 7:34 pm
691. Anna. Oh, do you mean they were dressed too casually?
I’ve always wondered about that. I’m always made to dress up and nearly everyone else at mass is in jeans and t-shirts.
September 17th, 2007 at 7:33 pm
The tabloids are now running a smear campaign against the PJ which incudes personal insults regarding the appearance of individual offficers (Tony Parsons- Daily Mirror).Terms verging on racist are being used and “slurs and smears” abound.
Isnt it their job to investigate whatever 4 months of detective work lead them to believe may have happened? It may be unpalatable to many to suspect the Mccanns but we all know that parents sometimes do harm their own children. It is dangerous nonsense to decide that they are automatically above suspicion. The media have decided on what the outcome should be regardless of not being in a position to know what lead PJ to the Mccanns.
The rest of the world must think us arrogant to an embarrassing degree

Wanderer 702… nice! “Jesus would make us wait until Easter!”
Madeleine’s going to be resurrected… oh my!!! Set your watches to March everyone.. I am just SO slow
Allegedly
September 17th, 2007 at 7:32 pm
I still think its highly unusual to have such a high publicity campaign about their missing daughter. If you were the abductor, wouldn’t you just say f*** it. I gotta kill this girl because there is just too much media attention?
September 17th, 2007 at 7:29 pm
Andrew:
“Well all you Catholics out there, ask yourself this question then.
What would Jesus do?”
Jesus would make us wait until Easter! Siegfried & Roy are quicker than that…but then I suppose the tiger may have ate the baby.

My theory is along the lines of yours. I’m thinking though that perhaps O’Brien suggested the sedatives because the McCann’s mentioned how they struggled to get Madeleine to calm down or go to sleep if she is hyperactive (as reported in the diary entries). Perhaps innocently, one of the Tapas 7 doctors suggested that and the McCann’s went along with it, only for it to backfire on all of them.
As to the car, I wondered why they only rented a car 25 days after Madeleine went missing? Surely they’d have needed a car to do all the running around? Why didn’t they have a car from their first day on holiday or within days of May 3? Why wait 25 days?
September 17th, 2007 at 7:25 pm
692. That’s old news.
She is with child but here’s the kicker: Gerry’s not the father. It’s the Vulpine Virgin. Branson’s got masterful mojo. No test tubes needed.
September 17th, 2007 at 7:25 pm
693 “but if she had IVF to have the other three how could this pregnancy be? Well…miracles do happen!”
Virgin Birth!!
haha Richy Branson, you move quick mate!!

Perhaps they have their Ipods shuffling Enya songs? I have no answers, just ideas. I’d suggest some exotic eastern practices, but I doubt they’re the type to go for that.
The lack of emotion bothers me too, but it isn’t them confessing to anything either.
September 17th, 2007 at 7:23 pm
Canada - I don’t think any forgiveness was asked for silently from God : they were very vocal and went to see God’s representative on earth (in their eyes) and showed him a picture of M.

Why haven’t the medical doctors who promote IVF been publicly ex-communicated? It is because the law of the land trumps the law of the church, not only at the secular level, but inside the church. Masonry internally governs the universal church.

According to Gazeta Digital, it was 2750 km, which is not a lot in the time. Think of an average of 100 km/hour on a motorway. 27 and a half hours’ driving.
