Madeleine McCann: Call Off The Dogs, Kate McCann’s Tears And Fatima
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
THE TIMES page 9: “McCanns send to US for help against evidence of sniffer dogs.”
Gerry and Kate McCann have consulted lawyers working on behalf of Eugene Zapata in Madison, Wisconsin.
In October 1976, Zapata’s wife, Jeanette, went missing. Her body has never been found. Last year sniffer dogs were brought in and Zapata was charged with her murder. The case went before Judge Patrick Fielder who said the evidence – dogs had picked up the scent of a corpse in Zapata’s basement – was inadmissible. He said the dogs were unreliable.
The dogs have yet to make a comment.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “MADDY JUDGE: LET ME TELL ALL.”
Pedro Daniel dos Anjos Frias wants to “speak freely” about the case.
Pages 6 and 7: “Mum’s tears at 11am Mass.” Once again the Mirror is all eyes for Kate McCann’s eyes. She is crying.
In church, Father Keith Tomlinson narrates the parable of the Prodigal Son. An eight-year-old child called Molly Earp reads “Jesus please continue to love and protect us, until she is found.”
And then Jesus can have a rest and the police can resume normal duties…
Pages 8 and 9: “On the beach Gerry gave Maddy loads of hugs and kisses, he was a perfect dad..The next time I saw him was about midnight..I saw a man alone, desperate. He was crying and screaming her name over and over and over again.” Words from a “WAITER AT MADDIE’S LAST MEAL” before she vanished.
THE SUN front page: “Maddie ‘gag’ lift.” Friends of Kate and Gerry McCann are hopeful of being allowed to speak out and defend themselves. A judge has asked for a lifting of Portugal’s secrecy laws.
Pages 6 and 7: “AGONY TO COME.” The Sun produces a picture of Kate and Gerry McCann’s wedding day. They are holding Kate’s goddaughter Ellie. There is also a new picture of Madeleine McCann “looking angelic”. Have you seen her? Or are you watching the parents?
THE EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE. POLICE TO SEARCH SHRINE FOR BODY.” The McCanns went to Fatima. The McCanns car clocked up 1,709 miles in the fives weeks after their daughter went missing.
THE WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER Pages 2 and 3: “Hand in hand, McCanns go to family church.” The “devoutly Catholic couple” are leaving for church from their “£600,000 home”. Kate McCann is carrying Cuddle Cat.
Pages 4 and 5: “1,000 letters each day in support of the McCanns. Between 500 and 1,000 letters a day arrive at the McCanns’ home. “There are some crank letters,” says a spokesman for the family, “but that’s inevitable.”
None of these letters are believed to point to the whereabouts of Madeleine McCann.
Alex Cayles, a former neighbour of the McCanns, says “I never heard Kate or Gerry raise their voices to their children or anyone else.” Can the same be said of any parents of three very young children?
DAILY MAIL front page: a picture of Kate McCann smiling.
“MADELEINE:
• Doubt cast on sniffer dogs
• Police frontman quits investigation
• Branson funds the McCanns’ defence
• Witness’s vital new evidence”
Pages 10 and 11:2 “Maddie: Is the case crumbling?”
Chief inspector Olegario Sousa has resigned “in disgust” at the way in which fellow Portuguese officers have been briefing the media behind his back.
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE MUM ON MURDER RAP. Now cops claim to have found ‘a motive’.”
The Star says police have read Kate McCann’s diary and “claim it reveals she had a motive to kill”.
Pages 4 and 5: “DID KATE HAVE A MOTIVE?”
Well, we haven’t read the diary, but…
“The idea that Portuguese detectives are looking at my daughter’s most personal thoughts and taking them out of context is terrible,” says Kate McCann’s father Brian Healy.
Pages 6 and 7: “HUNT AT HOLY SHRINE.” Is Madeleine McCann’s body buried at Fatima, one of the Catholic Church’s holiest sites? The Star says the couple went there three weeks after their daughter went missing.
We wonder. Is she? Or is she buried in Germany, America, London or Morocco, places also visited by the McCanns?
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “New allegations against McCanns - As the McCanns begin a new campaign to clear their names, further allegations emerged over the weekend.”
Oh?
“The hire car: The Renault Scenic hired by the McCanns 25 days after Madeleine went missing. New claims centre on its high mileage. Between May 27 and July 3, it was driven 1,700 miles, with police looking into the possibility that it may have been used to dispose of a body…There were also reports that detectives were waiting for permission from a judge to seize and dismantle the car to search for ‘traces of skin’.”
THE GUARDIAN: No Maddy news today.

75. Thanks - Sorry I like vaudeville and low brow.
September 17th, 2007 at 10:17 am
as it looks a whole lot of people( which is fair enough) are so far indulged in wanting to believe that this all story(about the mccanns killing their own daughter) could have happened.
its film like!
in five years time and everybody looks back at what was being said they will laugh with ridicule!.
remember folks-this is an opinion forum so say what you feel but dont bite my arse as i am entitled too.

67 - Patricia.
Serious. Katie Grant (Mail hack - she might only be in the Scottish edition) says we must stop internet posters from speculating and writing mean things about the McCanns. India Knight in The Sunday Times said much the same thing.

Well maybe the press got bored and decided to have a quiz show and some tapas and 4,5,30 bottles or so of wine to liven up their stay a bit?
I’m sure the journalists, photogs, camera crew etc….all had a superclad tight agreeement on taking turns supervising and monitoring the McCanns whilst they kicked back a little, got loaded with fine wine, flirted with fellow colleagues, some same sex attractions too were reported as they ate savory Mediterranean fare, quaffed more delicious wine and played harmless quiz games?
I’m certain I read several extremely detailed media personnel timelines of what news organization was to be watching the McCanns and how often, their very calculated time intervals, what kind of monitoring they used: GPS, walkie talkies, runes, tarot cards, crystal balls etc…….I mean these guys are professional when it comes to staking out a story.

70 ~ Moderation….are you talking about clarence mitchell ?

Helsangel, do we know what the Mccans really do all day?
Do they wake up and frantically co-ordinate with the “search teams” who have been working non-stop to see what developments or progress there have been in the search for Maddie? Or follow-up with local people where there have been potential sightings of the girl?
Or do they (more likely I think) ponder over what outfit they’ll wear today for my TV AM chat show interview, which newspaper editor to call to put some spin on a new piece of information uncovered by the Portugese Police, and then have breakfast with the twins before going for a jog and playing tennis?
is Gerry Mccan being paid from taxpayers money for his NHS hospital job while he indulges in this ego trip? We have a right to know.
September 17th, 2007 at 10:12 am
I thought the mc cann club were finding madeliene not reading forums of the internet.
Or is part of the 80,000 paying someone to read them so they can be one step ahead in their daily comments.
Does anyone know why mike oldfield checked on their kids?
It does seem odd to me as a mother
If we were having a BBQ in the garden, and a bloke i knew from work, got up for a pee, i wouldnt say
” o mikey cant be arsed to check on my own kids,as i am drinking and doing the quiz, on yer way back from your slash mate go into my kids room and check them please!”
” off course you lazy tart! i am a truly reliable gent and will go in and check they’re breathing and not been abducted for you!”
EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS IS ODD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Zapata could mean shoe, if it was in the masculine, but it isn’t, so it reamins a common Mexican surname to me, then again I never liked puns, too vaudeville for me, so ignore, LOL.
Kate McCann said that she’d been around 6 dead bodies, earlier this week as an appendum in the Mirror on one of their “They did it” days, that the medical centre has never had that many dead bodies in there, ever, this makes sense for a mediacl centre, not hospital or morgue. She aslo said that she took Cuddles the cat into work, which does not make any sense and is incriminating as hell, a bit like her face after that interview. BTW, after answering that question she refused to answer anymore, even though McGuiness said that she would happily answer “Every question”.
In fact the McCann’s contradict themselves all the time. Over “vowing” to stay in Portugal and keep ignoring their twins, or when declared suspects all of a sudden wanbt to go home in the interestss of the twins. While Mr McCann was being interviewed Philomena said that the Portugese police attempted a “sick” deal with Kate. This was a lie, passed off by the police as a “mis-translation”. Don’t let fair play get in the way of the McCann PR or of a xenophobic press, already having “bet” on the McCanns not wanting to be proved wrong all along and ruin the “magic of television” so ostensibly beloved of the credulous UK public (but actually decided upon by the paternalistic media).
Not going to get a fair trial, LOL, no one said that over the Jill Dando case or over various terrorism cases since the Toiry era. Theen again these people are often not blonde or married to Labour Party activists (Mr McCann) who went to Uni with people in the current Gvt with ambitions to get into the ministry of health.
To think that some cynics call this country an oligarchy, lol, they should go back to Russia, since, we’ve never had it so good!

Richard bransons money for defence was not needed 4 months ago, it is only now that the PJ dont know what the F they are doing so they may as well try and pin it on Kate, that they now need funds to pay lawyers to prove they are innocent.
September 17th, 2007 at 10:11 am
(58) The article linked to also says, “The official line is that he was taken off the case on Friday because he is the police spokesman and the case has moved from the police to the prosecution.”
Is there any reason to disbelieve this?
(68) ” As thinking people, I doubt anybody could see the logic in covering it up as they would know that it would carry a far greater punishment and a high risk factor of being caught.”
Don’t agree. If they killed her accidentally they stood to lose the twins and their licences as doctors.

62 Paulette
Those numbers arent 2545 but 25 and 45, so 2 seperate numbers. Maybe relate to something? Age, birth year, door number???
Dream of baby could be that you are worried about “losing” some one close to you? Empty nest syndrome? Could be some one you know is pregnant, you are worried about how they will cope with the baby? You need to focus more on the feeling I think than the actual events. Scared? Fright? Loss?
The bro in law thing was an example, things like this happen almost daily!
Used to do readings, but got fed up of everyone obsessing over their love life. Had quite a good success rate - about 90% accuracy but stopped because got too much flak off people - eg. I’m a charlatan etc etc.
September 17th, 2007 at 10:09 am
Helsangel, yes I do talk to my cousin about her work as a GP so I am very well aware of what her responsilities are. And what I mentioned about GPs is of value but of coure you choose not to take it on board because it totally dismisses your truly uninformed posts.

Richard Branson.
Why didnt he get involved 4 months ago?
He did. He was one of the first to pledge reward money. I admire him for sticking with it. Much more admirable that those who jumped ship for fear of bad publicity. However, one other big name is still with them….. watch the papers/news over the next few days.

I appreciate your relative is a GP.
But I get the feeling that people think 6 dead is a lot. for a locum part time Dr to see.
Over what time frame was this number of deaths certified?
How many patients does the surgery have on its books, how many Drs?
we should if we had these figures be able to verify KM claim.
September 17th, 2007 at 10:07 am
The press were all over this couple from day one. The press even hired their own sniffer dogs when the hoax Dutch letter arrived stating a location of the body. These press were everywhere. I just do not get how it could be possible to not only hide a rotting body for so long and then transport it without being seen. Sorry but this still hold not logical sense. Also a dead body has rigamortise so they would have had a hell of a time trying to shove a stiff body into a tyre well, which are not that big to begin with. One minute you hear about a pet cemetary, then her body was thrown at sea, then the church path is going to be dug up and now it is the Fatima shrine. Honestly if the PJ’s investigation has lead to this then it just looks like they are running in circles.
Also if you accidently killed your child surely you would realise that punishment for such an act would be susbstainly less then if you decided to actually plan the disposal of a body and the a subsequent cover it up. As thinking people, I doubt anybody could see the logic in covering it up as they would know that it would carry a far greater punishment and a high risk factor of being caught.

#48 Karen,
Are you teasing or serious?
Just yesterday I thought about how interesting this site has been in a number of ways.
September 17th, 2007 at 10:04 am
(63) “if this had happened at a Virgin Holiday resort rather than a Mark Warner Resort would he have been so quick with his money”.
That’s a point!
September 17th, 2007 at 10:03 am
49, Noonethere, I don’t recall anyone saying you had to have a sense of humour by pass to be on here. That was light hearted talk and I found 51 enntertaining as well.
You are seriously up your own ass. This is about opinions, not facts, and if you have stuff of value to add, then do it in a less obnocsious way and I may think you know what you are talking about. My cousins a priest I have no idea what he does all day so how do you know what your cousin does all day
September 17th, 2007 at 10:02 am
(46) SSS But I think the new evidence is supposed to favour the McCanns so it would presumably be something “non-suspicious”.
September 17th, 2007 at 10:02 am
good morning to the anorak hard core……and yes you know who you are…
on the subject of richard branson, that champion of the under dog, here’s a thought……
assuming all other circumstances remained the same….if this had happened at a Virgin Holiday resort rather than a Mark Warner Resort would he have been so quick with his money……hmmmm I wonder…
And to any journos out there with one eye on anorak……take note….. we are intelligent…rational…well informed…..and we are scrutineering your every word….because the truth will out…
September 17th, 2007 at 10:02 am
SSS,
That’s weird about the bad feeling of your brother in law and then that attack on him and his poor bike!
Interesting. I’ve been dreaming about babies a lot. In the last dream I had either I had a baby boy or someone else did but I was caring for their baby. These other people who looked like doctors kept trying to take the baby away from me saying that they needed to ‘undo’ him (I knew they meant kill him but they never used that word) because he wasn’t perfect. He had some sort of genetic defect barely noticeable to any outsider. I started crying and begging them to leave him with me. I told them I don’t care what their tests say. It was really an awful dream.
I think I may have visited the dream site, Brian’s Dreams? He uses Remote Viewing? I had a difficult time following the Madeleine thread if that’s the site your talking about. I did think (if he really had never looked at MW Resort photos) that the sketch he made of the building and the number was an interesting remote view. If of course he really did not have any prior information. He also believes she is still alive and is with a man and a woman.
A few friends of mine in the States, me and my friend in France are experimenting with a meditation this week to see if we can ‘tune in’ to any answers of this mystery. I’m sceptical but said I would try it.
Numbers 2545 frequently past few weeks and I am not a number person. We too just won €7 in a lottery. Just a few days ago.
September 17th, 2007 at 10:01 am
What would we post if we weren’t speculating?
Personally, I have no fixed views, that’s why I keep talking about it - on the internet and to my friends, family, other students etc.

I don’t know why the Teflon 2 are even reading this if it upsets them so much.
49 Noonethere
No one is saying GP’s aren’t present at a death, but ask your cousin how many deaths, on average, she deals with in 6 weeks, especially if she was only a locum and part time at that.
Last week some one posted a comment about a report that was researched when Harold Shipman was convicted and a GP with a surgery which was pretty huge, a few thousand patients and mainly elderly had only about a quarter of the deaths that Shipman’s had.
September 17th, 2007 at 10:00 am
49 - nononethere - what are you trying to do - kill this forum dead - if you cut off uninformed comment that will be the end of just about everyone’s comments.
Idle, uninformed speculation is the name of the game.

“One assumes that burials in Portugal are much like burials here - a body in a placed in a coffin, the coffin is then finds its way into the Church for the funeral, or have I misunderstood how it works.”

Richard Branson.
Why didnt he get involved 4 months ago?
Why only now?
What is he privy to that has convinced him to act now.
