Madeleine McCann: Call Off The Dogs, Kate McCann’s Tears And Fatima
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
THE TIMES page 9: “McCanns send to US for help against evidence of sniffer dogs.”
Gerry and Kate McCann have consulted lawyers working on behalf of Eugene Zapata in Madison, Wisconsin.
In October 1976, Zapata’s wife, Jeanette, went missing. Her body has never been found. Last year sniffer dogs were brought in and Zapata was charged with her murder. The case went before Judge Patrick Fielder who said the evidence – dogs had picked up the scent of a corpse in Zapata’s basement – was inadmissible. He said the dogs were unreliable.
The dogs have yet to make a comment.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “MADDY JUDGE: LET ME TELL ALL.”
Pedro Daniel dos Anjos Frias wants to “speak freely” about the case.
Pages 6 and 7: “Mum’s tears at 11am Mass.” Once again the Mirror is all eyes for Kate McCann’s eyes. She is crying.
In church, Father Keith Tomlinson narrates the parable of the Prodigal Son. An eight-year-old child called Molly Earp reads “Jesus please continue to love and protect us, until she is found.”
And then Jesus can have a rest and the police can resume normal duties…
Pages 8 and 9: “On the beach Gerry gave Maddy loads of hugs and kisses, he was a perfect dad..The next time I saw him was about midnight..I saw a man alone, desperate. He was crying and screaming her name over and over and over again.” Words from a “WAITER AT MADDIE’S LAST MEAL” before she vanished.
THE SUN front page: “Maddie ‘gag’ lift.” Friends of Kate and Gerry McCann are hopeful of being allowed to speak out and defend themselves. A judge has asked for a lifting of Portugal’s secrecy laws.
Pages 6 and 7: “AGONY TO COME.” The Sun produces a picture of Kate and Gerry McCann’s wedding day. They are holding Kate’s goddaughter Ellie. There is also a new picture of Madeleine McCann “looking angelic”. Have you seen her? Or are you watching the parents?
THE EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE. POLICE TO SEARCH SHRINE FOR BODY.” The McCanns went to Fatima. The McCanns car clocked up 1,709 miles in the fives weeks after their daughter went missing.
THE WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER Pages 2 and 3: “Hand in hand, McCanns go to family church.” The “devoutly Catholic couple” are leaving for church from their “£600,000 home”. Kate McCann is carrying Cuddle Cat.
Pages 4 and 5: “1,000 letters each day in support of the McCanns. Between 500 and 1,000 letters a day arrive at the McCanns’ home. “There are some crank letters,” says a spokesman for the family, “but that’s inevitable.”
None of these letters are believed to point to the whereabouts of Madeleine McCann.
Alex Cayles, a former neighbour of the McCanns, says “I never heard Kate or Gerry raise their voices to their children or anyone else.” Can the same be said of any parents of three very young children?
DAILY MAIL front page: a picture of Kate McCann smiling.
“MADELEINE:
• Doubt cast on sniffer dogs
• Police frontman quits investigation
• Branson funds the McCanns’ defence
• Witness’s vital new evidence”
Pages 10 and 11:2 “Maddie: Is the case crumbling?”
Chief inspector Olegario Sousa has resigned “in disgust” at the way in which fellow Portuguese officers have been briefing the media behind his back.
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE MUM ON MURDER RAP. Now cops claim to have found ‘a motive’.”
The Star says police have read Kate McCann’s diary and “claim it reveals she had a motive to kill”.
Pages 4 and 5: “DID KATE HAVE A MOTIVE?”
Well, we haven’t read the diary, but…
“The idea that Portuguese detectives are looking at my daughter’s most personal thoughts and taking them out of context is terrible,” says Kate McCann’s father Brian Healy.
Pages 6 and 7: “HUNT AT HOLY SHRINE.” Is Madeleine McCann’s body buried at Fatima, one of the Catholic Church’s holiest sites? The Star says the couple went there three weeks after their daughter went missing.
We wonder. Is she? Or is she buried in Germany, America, London or Morocco, places also visited by the McCanns?
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “New allegations against McCanns - As the McCanns begin a new campaign to clear their names, further allegations emerged over the weekend.”
Oh?
“The hire car: The Renault Scenic hired by the McCanns 25 days after Madeleine went missing. New claims centre on its high mileage. Between May 27 and July 3, it was driven 1,700 miles, with police looking into the possibility that it may have been used to dispose of a body…There were also reports that detectives were waiting for permission from a judge to seize and dismantle the car to search for ‘traces of skin’.”
THE GUARDIAN: No Maddy news today.

Come on Anonymous, Gerry would love to have a fan club!
Look how he places his blog about haircuts and beach runs at the homepage centre piece of the findmadeleine website, instead of a link to “report sightings of madeleine’

If I were posting pics of a car accident you would be asking for more blood. If I had access to TV footage showing the early stuff you would just say Nicole kidman can do better.

Yes, I’d like to know why the British media is being manipulated too. I’d like answers to all those type of questions and more.
“Madeleine” news is still getting far more than it should. Poor Rhys’ parents are still looking for their son’s murderer and yet that story gets less attention.
I agree with you wholeheartedly.
September 17th, 2007 at 9:55 pm
Gerry McCanns contention is that the abductor came in through the bedroom window and exited via a door - I am not sure which one- back or front(patio).
Warner have stated that the window shutter was not forced. The owners also stated that windows and doors have sophisticated locking systems. If deadlocked the abductor could not have got out of the backdoor without force. That leaves the unlocked back door.
Only problem with that is when - obviously not before 9.30 ish because they were checked by caring adults and Gerry was ouside the patio door side of the apartment until about 9.25 with Wilkins. Abductor and child seen by Tanner at 9.15 or 9.30 according to the reort you read. The abductor is at once both a phantom and also sticks out like a sore thumb. Odd
September 17th, 2007 at 9:55 pm
808…..This is based on the fact that there is no report of Madeleine being with the McCanns when the collected the twins after leaving the cafe around 6.30pm. Surely someone from the creche would have mentioned seeing her.
Then there is the fact that O’Brien is reported to have listened at the door rather than go in. Why?
A reliable friend would go in to ensure the children had no had an accident, been sick, or were awake.
If O’Brien had gone in and Madeleine wasn’t in the apartment he would have had to have rasied the alarm far sooner.
We only have GM’s word for it that Madeleine was in the apartment when he checked at 9.10pm.
Finally as we know, Madeleine wasn’t in the aparrtment when KM checked at 10.00
Your Quote :
My Query :
Basically then she could have been taken (or dead) sometime between 6.30 and 10.00pm .??????? Someone must have seen something.. summer time still daylight at 6.30pm…..if not ever in the apartment that night. So was Cuddle Cat placed there high up as a deliberate act to support abduction from apartment. If so who put it there..surely no abductor would bother with such a stupid thing.Leaving ..hmm parents..or tappas friends.

(860) Anonymous was me! I tried registering to the site, assuming my name would be used…but it posted my comment under anonymous. I need a manual to work this site, apparently.

John- I’m having trouble submitting some comments, but I’m new to the site, so I just assumed it was a fault of my own.
Ian Willis- In regards to 835, do you really think that is appropriate? He probably doesn’t read the emails (as they are probably funneled through by his workplace now), and while it was there for the public to find, most people are lazy. I just hope people don’t use it to send illogical and hateful spews to the family, even if the emails were polite yet questioning, we’re not the investigators in charge, so to try and directly ask them is a bit rude.
So far, I haven’t seen you post anything quite offensive to anyone, so I assume you didn’t relay the information in that way; I just don’t think it may be the best thing to post (of course it is your decision and the moderators decision).

851 ~ Krissie…. then post the links to the photos… you see what you want to see… but there’s nothing so blind as those that don’t want to see….
September 17th, 2007 at 9:50 pm
If one of my kids were taken I’d do anything to get them back. I expect I’d be ranting and raving shouting abuse at whoever had them to give them back but I’d even suck up to the abductor if I thought it would work. Either way I’d be beside myself and most likely a complete wreck. I’ve no idea how you could formulate a media plan and set up a limited company and then top it off by jogging on the beach before going to the room to post your daily blog.
The McCann’s are con-merchants.

851 … Krissie … couple of links please … so I can also believe it!

STEVO, STIG:
You’re missing the real point her, friends. I don’t give a monkey’s F++K whether the McCanns have cried or not, whther they’ve faked it or whether or not there are any actual pictures of them crying. (It neither proves nor intimates anything either way).
What the Anti-McCann and Pro McCann factions both seem to ignore, or misunderstand is this; The questions I really want answering, do not centre on the ‘missing hours’ or why Kate Tanner lied or why the McCanns refused to answer 40 questions in their interviews or even why, given that they were so incredibly desperate to ‘FIND MADDY’, did they repeatedly fail to bother even LOOKING for her in the places where she was ’sighted’, even in the Belgium case where the sighting was 110% accurate and the Forensics were dispatched to seize evidence for testing. What I REALLY want to know is why every single British Media outlet is operating an Editorial policy that is obviously dictated to them. And why, is NO-ONE, in the least bit interested or even concerned that EVERY single McCann PR spinner and spokes person, from McGuinness, Hobsbawn and the rest, right through to Mitchell, have extensive, Government contracts? That’s BEFORE someone decides there must SURELY be something odd in the fact that Gordon Brown PERSONALLY intervened to put pressure on the Portuguese Judiciary to permit the McCanns to make a TV appeal regarding the “man seen carrying a child in pink pyjamas” THREE WEEKS AFTER THE EVENT, even though the PJ had already totally dismissed this sighting as ‘inconsequential’. Perhaps the PRO McCANN tribe will consider these actions entirely normal?

844 … Mr McCarrick … I’m sure if you go look in the local park, you’ll find her playing on the swings! Where the frikking hell do these people come from? She would have wandered out into the dark and been screaming blue murder because she was scared more likely …..
Oi … can I get the easier spam sums please!

And I’ve seen several photos of Kate crying. Wet tears, yep. SO what? Doesn’t mean squat, one way or the other.
September 17th, 2007 at 9:46 pm
It is becoming increasingly obvious that the McCanns are innocent. All you “guilty until proven innocent” types are going to have a major mea culpa coming.
I’m with the person who says Maddie is coming back, alive, on day 150. You watch. The McCanns are so clearly not guilty here (other than your yada yada yada argument about leaving them alone, we’ve heard it before, don’t need to repeat!).

I’ve said so all along. Same with the videos of her leaving church in PDL. They show them scrunching their faces up as if you’re trying to cry on cue but there’s not a drop in sight.
September 17th, 2007 at 9:46 pm
Why is Gerry always the spokesman? Because it was not his kid. How has he remained so ‘chipper’ throughout? Not his kid. Why cover up at all? To avoid losing entire career over an accident with someone else’s kid.

Do you have a link to the picture you mention?
September 17th, 2007 at 9:44 pm
839 ~ Steveo…. I agree… i put out the challenge last week. post a photo of real tears not some scrunched up gurning….. but there isn’t one…not 1 single photo of the gorgeous kate mccann with real wet tears streaming down her beautiful cheeks….
September 17th, 2007 at 9:43 pm
Only good actors & actresses can shed “real” tears on cue …. I’m afraid G&K aren’t in the running for the Oscar’s anytime soon!
September 17th, 2007 at 9:43 pm
Praia da Luz resident Mark McCarrick said the girl might have simply walked out of her room.
“The parents left the door ajar so they could keep going over and looking at her,” he said. “We are hoping that because the door was open, she just walked out.”

The point about tears is that you either have them or you don’t. If you had been crying often, you’d expect Kate to have a handkerchief. At the least, if you cry you’d notice her wiping tears away. You see neither…because I don’t believe there are real tears.

Blunger
The ‘hanging door’ may have been the bedroom - my mistake.
The youngster’s aunt, Trish Cameron, of Dumbarton, near Glasgow, said: “The phone went last night and it was my brother Gerry, distraught on the phone, breaking his heart.
“He said, ‘Madeleine’s been abducted, she’s been abducted’. They kept going back to check the kids every half-hour.”
On the last visit, at 10 pm, Mrs McCann went into the apartment, then ran out, screaming.
Mrs Cameron said: “The door was lying open, the window in the bedroom and the shutters had been jemmied open. Nothing had been touched in the apartment, no valuables taken, no passports. They think someone must have come in the window and gone out the door with her. It looks as if somebody has either been watching, or they’ve targeted her.”
Police were keeping an open mind about what happened. They were also investigating whether Maddy could simply have wandered off.

I often see Kate with a screwed up face but like you say, show me liquid tears on the face. I’ve still to see a photo with real tears.
